Manafort created Davis Manafort Partners International (DMI) for consulting, lobbying and public relations for the Ukraine. Gates being Manafort’s “go-to” guy, was also involved in the company and therefore received the profits. Peter Carr, Special Counsel’s Office spokesman stated the indictment against Manafort alone, “contains 12 counts: conspiracy against the United States, conspiracy launder money, unregistered agent of a foreign [government], false and misleading [foreign lobbying disclosures], false statements, and seven counts of failure to file reports of foreign bank and financial accounts.” U.S. Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III revealed the charges Monday against Manafort, Gates, and Papadopoulos. Both Manafort and Gates pleaded not guilty in court Monday afternoon but Papadopoulos admitting to lying to the FBI about his contact with a Russian professor. The charges against Manafort and Gates could result in a 20 year sentence.

Rio Hondo College Foundation member John L. Peel was made an honorary alumnus of Whittier College on October 27 at Villalobos Hall. The awards were officially started, presented and ended by Vincent J. Daigneault, a member of the Board of Trustees who had consistently remarked on the recipients fine representation of the college’s mission statement: to make strides towards the betterment of society. Many of the speeches given by the Poet Award recipients were dedicated to Whittier’s College’s president Sharon D. Herzberger who had announced her retire-

ment back in early June. When it was time for Peel’s introduction, they remarked on how much dedication he has to the college even though he himself did not go there. When he began his thanks, he wrote and spoke a poem in honor of John Greenleaf Whittier and President Herzberger entitled “Thank You Sharon.” Passages from his poem such as, “Integrity, through word and heed. Each act then plants another seed” and, “oh Sharon you have blessed us all those using chair and standing tall,” is an example of the message he put behind his poem. “With all the things going on all over the world, especially in hollywood nowadays, recognizing how some women are treated, it’s so great to have a woman

president who is an example of the ultimate integrity, the ultimate in doing everything she can for both staff and students ... ” Pell has had a Mother, wife and two daughters attend Whittier College. Alongside Peel, four others were at the Poet Awards Recognition ceremony: Jeffery C. Cleveland for Outstanding Young Alumnus, Christopher C. Evans for Service to the College, Susan Elliott Harvey for Community Impact and Cheryl Boone Isaacs for Alumna Achievement. In the past, Poet Awards has been a platform for the college to recognize individuals on their careers, dedication, and achievement that has reflected the values and ideals taught at the college.

Rio Hondo’s AS Community Service and Legislative Affairs committees held a fundraising event for Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Texas on Wednesday, October 25th. This was a one day event where anyone was allowed to donate items such as tarps, canned food, water disinfectants, hand sanitizers, medicine and personal care products. A donation box and snacks were also available and all profit would be going to an organization. Natural disasters have been a recurring event these last couple of months. Some of the most commonly known were the hurricanes that hit Puerto Rico and Texas. As well as the 7.1 earthquake that hit Mexico. This left many families without a home and with limited amount of supplies. Puerto Rico till this day still has 75 percent of its land without electricity. All the donations would be going to an organization called family-to-family. This organization allows you to donate to one particular family or multiple. Pam Koner, the founder and executive director of

Family-to-Family, as well as Chairman of its Board of Directors, helped many families in need after previous hurricanes. According to the history in family-to-family. org, “After Hurricane Katrina, Koner started “In the Bag”, a donation program based on the same one-to-one Family-to-Family model, and linked over 1,000 displaced Katrina families to matching donor families. Donors shipped basic necessities like blankets, dishes and clothing to families who had lost almost everything.” Serena Hernandez, a representative of AS Community Service and Legislative Affairs committees, stated that she had brought the idea to a task force meeting where they all discussed that it would be a great idea. Hernandez also said there was no particular goal for this event. They were glad with what they received as long as they were able to help one of the families in need

Rio Hondo’s First Ever Food Pantry Continued

Tam Nguyen. These women have been interested in food insecurity amongst college students and studied and conducted surveys. Rocha and defined food insecurity as “the limited or uncertain availability of nutritionally adequate and safe foods, or the ability to acquire such foods in socially acceptable ways.” Their findings from the survey were shocking and concerning. Of the students surveyed at Rio, 47% of them worry or stress about not having enough money for food. That means almost half of all the students on campus may not eat for hours, days, even weeks. This is not only a crisis among our campus but in colleges across the nation. From a survey published on SwipeHunger.org, “Across the country 1 in 5 students regularly skip meals, having

to prioritize the other costs associated with college.” From an anonymous student statement presented by Rocha’s and Nguyen, “I work 32 hours a week in order to pay for my insurances, car payments, tuition, and books. I often skip meals in order to save money... Like many other students that may be in my situation. I am struggling to get by on finances and education. I, and many others in my situation, need help.” The Food Access Task Force and Community Support has been at work for the last few semesters providing food to Rio students already. They have done activities like Grab & Go Snack Stations, Finals Week Food Breaks, Grocery Bag Distributions and others. ASRHC President, Martin Covarrubias, President Dreyfuss, VP Madeline Shaprio,

and past ASRHC President Andrew Gonzales all cut the ribbon for the grand opening of Riosource Room. ASRHC past President Gonzales is not attending CAL State Fullerton, but came back to Rio Hondo, his alma mater, to see the opening of the pantry that he was the main advocate leader for. President Dreyfuss donated $25K towards the pantry and Rio Hondo was granted a one-time fund of $27,450 for student enrollment for CALFresh and the pantry. It is stocked with fruits, mac & cheese, oatmeal, and grocery bags that are already packed for students to grab. Now, because of the development of the Riosource Room, food is available Monday through Thursday to students facing food insecurity. It is located next to the Bookstore in the A-Building.

Android Stopping ISP’s From Tracking Your Web History OLIVIA VENEGAS Staff Writer

Android is testing a new option for their mobile devices called “DNS over TLS” [Domain Name Server over Transport Layer Security]. This option is to protect your privacy while using the internet. DNS stands for Domain Name Server, which is responsible for translating a website’s URL address into an IP address directly connected to your own computer. This tracks what individuals search. Without this, an IP address could not be connected to your computer. Android is planning to accomplish privacy for their users within their next software update. “DNS over TLS” will instead encrypt the address as HTTP’s that will protect your web history and personal information from DNS. It is a layer of security. This option will be found in the Developer Option and will

Android plans to protect mobile user privacy by blocking ISPs from obtaining users web history. The plan is to implement this security measure in 2018.

give android users the choice to turn this added security either on or off. This development is necessary since most of the web history and personal information taken without permission is sold to advertisers in order to send you ads related to you. Some individuals enjoy their personalized and influential advertisements but it is important to understand that their personal information is sold for profit to the big businesses. Individuals need security not only from advertisers but also Congress. Congress has recently passed a bill that dismantles internet privacy rules. Time and time again Congress abuses our privacy for the sake of national security and this bill is just another. Android has stepped up the game by currently working on the creation of an option that addresses individual’s security fears. There is no word from Apple if there will be similar development into iPhones.

As the world grows more and more technologically advanced, there arises a great deal of security vulnerabilities. Time, in this day and age, is money, and if the current state of time’s reliance should falter, it means that the all financial systems in the world are at risk. In short, the problem of little to no

Global Positioning System (GPS) protections can allow for the disruption of life as we know it. Being that the GPS is a network of satellites whose purpose is to keep precise time and pinpoint locations based on a process known as trilateration, the slightest hiccup in time can have devastating consequences on the structure of the world

Different Kinds of Pollution Responsible for Staggering Death Tolls JAIME APARICIO Staff Writer

Pollution particles found in both the air and water supplies are responsible for an estimated 9 million deaths each year. Foreign workers who make a living out of mining in dark caves and inhaling the dangerous fumes from coal particles also contribute to this high number. A study published last Thursday in the Lancet, revealed the staggering information. Amongst the information given, it was said that pollu-

tion is responsible for more deaths than HIV/AIDS and both tuberculosis and malaria combined. “Going into this, my colleagues and I knew that pollution killed a lot of people. But we certainly did not have any idea of the total magnitude of the problem. I think all of us were really surprised when we saw this,” says dean of global health at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and co-chair of the commission Phillip Landrigan. One thing that was notable in the study was the reporting of the areas where

the most pollution is found on the planet. According to the study, the most pollution is found amongst poor countries that are still considered to be developing. Other countries that are included are India, China, and South America. The data mentioned in the study is also said to be the latest in the research found and was conducted for approximately 2 years in a combined 130 countries. Some of the particles in the pollution that may not be well-known to the general public are mercury, arsenic, and other combinations of

particles. Gina McCarthy, a former Environmental Protection Agency administrator explains that “climate change is going to exacerbate the very problems that are identified in this article. There will be more contagious and infectious diseases. There will be more lives lost, more injuries, if we don’t identify a path that gets us out of the hole that we’re in.What people don’t realize is the instability that results from poverty, the instability that results from migration as a result of climate change.” And with the huge num-

News from overseas, the infection rate in England alone has doubled within the last 10 years or so of various illness and diseases. The reason for this is because of a constant consumption of antibiotics. When a person has an illness or symptoms , they usually go to a doctor for treatment expecting to be prescribed a form of medication.“In some cases of illness or disease medical aid/drugs are necessary but for minor cases such as the flu and non-severe bronchitis it’s not necessary” said Tony Zamorano, a Clinical Doctor of Southern California. Though this doesn’t seem to stop people from asking for treatment because of paranoia, fear and an array of other reasons. Otherwise easily treated bacteria, have begun to build an immunity. While antibiotics do speed the healing and recuperation process from weeks to days, surviving bacteria slowly builds defenses against medical drugs. Inevitably, the next time someone gets the same illness, his or her body can not fight the illness without the antibiotics, due to the tolerance built by the bacteria. In essence, the drugs become useless. If the medical treatment fails to be helpful, then not only is

the medication useless, but it also becomes much harder for doctors to treat or perform procedures without high risk. Now for medical professionals, it is becoming much harder to treat certain cases such as the ones previously listed in addition to typical doctoral duties. In the case of a person coming down with pneumonia, antibiotics are very necessary, even more so because of the risk that a patient can contract other diseases while battling the primary threat of pneumonia. Often in first world countries. Studies show that 5,000 people in England die due to drug-resistant bacteria every year. It is estimated by medical professionals that by 2050, more people worldwide will perish due to medical resistant infections than cancer. Instead of taking medicine for illnesses some medical professionals and students are saying “Go to the doctors to get examined, but as others have said if it’s not a life threatening illness then let your own body heal itself naturally” says Antonio Solorzano, a medicals student/intern. Other professionals advise that patients with nonfatal or life threatening illnesses just get plenty of rest, take pain relief medication (if necessary), and drink plenty of fluids.

Prehistoric Teeth Fossils Dating Back 9.7 Million Years Could Rewrite Human History

German Paleontologists recently discovered dental remains in the former bed of the Rhine River located in Central and Western Europe. The prehistoric teeth fossils could potentially lead to a ‘rewriting’ of human history. The Fossilized teeth are believed to be great ape teeth which were found over a year ago near the town of Eppelsheim in southern Germany. Herbert Lutz, head of the excavation team and deputy museum director at the Mainz Natural History Museum discovery a previously unknown European species of ape that had human-like teeth way before African species did.The teeth are said to resemble those of a skeleton of a human ancestor known as Lucy that was discovered in Ethiopia in 1974. The prehistoric teeth fossils are the first new fossils of their kind to come out of Eppelsheim in 80 years according to researchers. The scientist made the discovery of the prehistoric teeth fossils in September, but only made headlines this week as the

discovery was so significant the scientist had to ensure their information was correct before publishing. Herbert Lutz, the deputy museum director said “We want to hold back on speculation. What these finds definitely show us is that the holes in our knowledge and in the fossil record are much bigger than previously thought”, as they discover where the great ape came from. The teeth are no longer white and have taken on an amber-like color. The interesting thing about the findings of the prehistoric teeth is that the teeth do not resemble those of any other species previously discovered in both Europe and Asia. The discovery of the teeth fossils is so huge as the teeth are from a great ape with a relationship to Homo sapiens. The dental remains were on display in a museum in Mainz last weekend and will be viewable in the great exhibition in the Landesmuseum in Mainz. One of the dental remains was identified as a canine with a striking resemblance to the teeth of Australopithecus afarensis which is a hominin that lived in Africa around 3 million years ago. The other tooth is a molar, which the scientists believed to be less useful for identifying the owner of the prehistoric teeth.

Dia de Los Muertos: Not to be Confused as Spanish Halloween

Day of the Dead holds very different traditions than the ones that we’ve grown up with here in the states. American Halloween is an annual occurrence on the night of October 31 where children roam the streets dressed as their favorite characters and monsters. In Mexico, Halloween is celebrated over a couple of days starting October 31 and lasting until November 2 and it isn’t known as Halloween, but instead, Dia De Los Muertos. Halloween to us in america is all about fun and games. Adults and kids everywhere spend the night dressed up as their favorite characters fictional or real.

To no surprise lots of people love to go all out with their costumes, and try to make it as life-like as possible and some choose to make there house more spooky to scare fellow neighbors. While many of the younger kids walk the streets in hopes to receive candy, the older crowds tend to have an excuse to throw a halloween party. . There isn’t a real sentimental meaning to halloween, we don’t pay respect to any loved one or anything. Matter of fact it was originally made up about two thousand years ago on October 31th, and it was meant to keep our world safe from the ghost world. Then immigrants from Scotland and Ireland came over and brought their traditions with them of celebrating halloween. It didn’t really pick up until the early 1900’s that’s when it was fully blowing up throughout america.

And it’s turned into a beloved night that many americans love to take part in. With all sorts of movies with a halloween theme, amusement parks trying to scare you, everyone loves to take part in this. This celebration isn’t exclusive to just Mexico, regions in South America also take part in it as well. Dia De Los Muertos, or The Day of the Dead, has many traditions that differ from the candied holiday that we know. The main focus of the holiday is to build private altars called “Ofrendas.” These are used to honor the deceased ancestors of a family and they are decorated using calaveras, aztec marigolds, and gifts, such as passed loved ones’ favorite foods, beverages, and worldly possessions. These altars are believed to help the deceased transition into the afterlife with the support of the living.

For Adriana Rodriguez Burciaga, growing up, she was able to experience both throughout her childhood being born in Mexico and later moving to the United States. Since she spent her childhood here, she never got to experience Dia De Los Muertos properly but she said, “my mom would light candles to honor my grandmother when the time came.” Adriana says she was always more partial toward the Mexican celebration, “I like the fact that you’re actually celebrating something or someone as opposed to begging for candy.” Halloween in America and Dia De Los Muertos in Mexico are both great with their traditions. and it’s up to you which one you choose to celebrate during this festive time of the year!

Getting in the Mood for the Halloween Season

There are plenty of things to consider when celebrating the holiday of Halloween. Whatever the preferrence, getting in the spirit really livens up the days in October. JAIME APARICIO Lifestyles Editor

With every holiday that comes by throughout the year, there comes a mental preparation to begin the festivities. There are certain traditions that some people follow in order to get in the spirit of things, in this case, for Halloween. Some of the common things people do for the spooky holiday are putting up decorations, watching Halloween related content, going to theme parks, attending costume parties, wearing Halloween themed clothing, and perhaps tuning in to listen to podcasts that cover the supernatural or even read the occasional scary book. Probably the most common of the traditions for the Halloween holiday is that of decorating the household with the likes of spider webs, skeletons, and the carved jack-o-lantern. Of course the type of decorations varies from house to house, but the common idea is there. Every so often I come across a home that goes above and beyond all other houses in their neighborhood. One year

I stumbled on a home that was decorated and inspired by the Batman: Arkham Asylum video game developed by Rocksteady. By the looks of it, the residents of said household seemed to get the gothic asthetic look down with the occasional gargoyle looming in the area. With the holiday also comes the annual production of holiday related content released at the theaters and on television. Each year sees the return of the classic Simpsons Halloween Specials. Each special parodies such classic horror films as The Shinning, Night of The Living Dead, and A Nightmare on Elm Street. Even the famous television series The Twilight Zone has been parodied by having Bart Simpson mentally transforming his father Homer into a Jack in the Box. Each year also brings the announcement of acclaimed theme park attractions, most notably at Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, Six Flags Magic Mountain, and Knott’s Berry Farm. Each theme park throws their own twist on the holiday in order to attract thrill

seekers looking for a good scare with Disneyland being the exception in that their attractions are more family oriented. Halloween Horror Nights, which is the creation of Universal, seems to be the more popular amongst the older crowds looking to be both thrilled and scared. And if the idea of attending theme parks is a bit too expensive, then going to a local costume party would be a great alteration of events. Personally, I’ve never really gravitated towards costume parties, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that I wouldn’t be up for attending parties. If you do in fact plan to attend or create your own, then perhaps the music selection should not just be limited to that of Halloween themed music. Speaking of music, one thing that I feel is somewhat unique to myself is listening to heavy metal music while I commute from place to place in the month of October. Such artists as Rob Zombie, Slipnot, and AFI accompany me in the car and in the classroom while going through my daily routine. A personal favorite composer

of mine to listen to is Danny Elfman. He’s responsible for composing and writing the music for the famous stopmotion animated film A Nightmare Before Christmas. A fun fact about the film is that Elfman himself provides the singing voice for the lead character Jack Skellington, a small feat to perform for Elfman becasue of his past experience as the frontman for the 80’s band Oingo Boingo. Another activity I partake is listening to podcasts that cover the supernatural. One podcast in particular that Iv’e recently started listening to is Bazarre States from the Nerdist channel that includes Jessica Chobot and Andrew Bowser as the online hosts. Their sense of dark humor and experience in the online industry helps Bizarre States stand out amongst the rest. Another podcast that seems to be quite popular is The No Sleep Podcast that follows the form of an anthology of short stories dealing in the categories of thriller and horror. of October is reading or listening to a scary book. Spooky literature from authors such as Stephen King, Anne Rice, or Richard Matheson also bring out the spirit of things by getting the reader in the mindset of Halloween. acouple of books that I myself have been reading in the past weeks are The Prince Lestat by Anne Rice and the horror classic The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty. The option of listening to these two pieces of literature can also be accessible via ebooks if you see yourself as not much of a reader. No matter what age you are, the spirit of Halloween can continue to live on through your own imagination and how you apply it towards the holiday. Just because the older you get, does not mean that the Halloween holiday can’t be enjoyed to the fullist. Just be sure to safe and watch that consumption of candy. Happy trick-or-treating everyone.

Seeing as though this was going to be my very first Comic-Con, I wanted to be prepared as much as humanly possible. I have attended a couple of cons in the past with Star Wars Celebration and the Anime Expo being both of them, but as for a comic book related con, this was going to be my first. Getting up early and purchasing a caffeinated beverage on the way to the con was all part of the plan in order to get in the mood for the festivities. Lucky for me, the con was being held this year somewhat locally at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Los Angeles is known for its intolerable traffic, but in this case, the trip towards the con was not filled with that many cars getting in the way to begin ruining my mood for the day. Arriving at the convention center was a breeze with plenty of parking spots being available with the occasional cosplayer walking by and making their way towards the main entrance. The con was being held at the convention center for three days but because of other responsibilities that had to be tended to, I was only able to attend the con Saturday, October 28. The entire day was set to be taken advantage of and I was extremely thankful for the opportunity to get into the

con for free, because of my new credentials as a newspaper writer of El Paisano. With the early hours winding down to permit entrance onto the main floor, the lobby was beginning to be filled more and more with comic book enthusiasts representing their favorite characters in the form of cosplaying. However, comic-cons aren’t only limited to comic book related characters with plenty of fans costuming as Anime and video game characters alike. Once the crowds began to be let into the floor, attendees let out cheers and chants as they made their way up the stairs and onto the main floor. Once inside, I made the choice to walk the entire floor before making a painstakingly hard decision to not purchase any memorabilia or collectibles. Unfortunately, my current funds prevented me from doing so as well as the fact that my bedroom does not permit anymore space to display statues or posters. As the day went on, I anticipated the hour of attending a panel held by the people from the YouTube channel Collider. Their segment is conveniently called Heroes for their comic book related content that is covered and talked about. And as I sat amongst the audience listening to some of my favorite YouTube personalities, I took advantage of the time to regain my breath and strength in order to continue my day at the con. But the feeling of sore feet and crowded spaces did not take away from the joy of attending my first comic-con. The sight of impressive cosplayers and the plethora of artwork being displayed surely made up for any slight inconvenience I may have felt throughout the day. If you find yourself enjoying the characters that thelatest comic book films are based off of, then I highly recommend going. From I experienced at this year’s Stan Lee’s Comic-con, I do picture myself attending more in the coming future, and can’t wait to come back next year so I can relive it all over again.

Stan Lee Los Angeles Comic Con, boy what a day that was. It seems like every year it changes more and more, sometimes for good and sometimes for the worse. But regardless if you attend the Los Angeles based comic convention you’re destined to have a great time. My day was an emotional roller coaster, starting from lows to highs. By far the worst thing this convention had to offer was its parking. It might as well been called “Stan Lee Los Angeles Traffic Con”. I had gotten there exactly at 11:00AM . By the time I had gotten out of the line it was 11:40 AM and was forced to find parking elsewhere, even though there had been empty parking lots with tons of room that the convention had closed off for some unknown reason that was not disclosed to the people. Another thing that seem to upset a lot of people was the gun rule. Even if the guns were made of foam or looked like any gun it wasn’t allowed in the con, upsetting cosplayers everywhere. Although it is an understable rule due to recent events, it’s still a little bit of a buzz kill. But enough about the bad let’s go into the good! First things first, the cosplayers, come on people put hours upon hours into these designs and it pays off. You get to see the art first hand, and trust me when I say they love to show it to the people, just imagine seeing your favorite fictional character right there in front of you looking so life like. And for the most part, they are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet. The panels were well organized and hosted. They hosted great people like the cast of the famous “iZombie” on the CW. Asking all sorts of great questions, giving you a real insight on what goes on behind the scenes of making such a hit show. Most of the panels only last a hour and it went by fast which seemed to suck, but it’s like what they say “When you really enjoy yourself, time just flys”. So I can’t complain about it at all because being up close with so many big stars is a gift on it’s own. Personally my favorite thing about going to comic conventions is artist alley and all the

vendors. For a person who can’t draw to save his life I sure do enjoy supporting local artists. No matter what you’re going to be tempted to drop money left and right on almost everything you see. And it takes incredible willpower not to do so. All the things you can buy is unbelievable, it’s sure to wake up your inner kid once again. As well as the art so that way you can brag to all your friends saying “Hey check out what I got at Comic Con”. It goes without saying it’s amazing furniture pieces as well. Last but not least they brought The Rock himself! Don’t get me wrong, anytime you get to see this iconic star is a god send. But it was very unnecessary he was only there for about 10 whole minutes and showed off his latest movie, that’s already hated on social media, “Jumanji”. The crowd got super packed and they didn’t even show him on the big screen like they did everyone else, so you were anywhere but the front good luck on seeing him. But at the end of the day it is the Rock and if anyone can get away with this it’s him. Over all though LACC was a blast. I can’t wait to go again next year and see what it has to offer this time. For good or bad Stan Lee Los Angeles Comic Con has earned a lifelong fan. And I urge all of you that didn’t go to attend so you can fall in love with it like I did.

Stan Lee’s LA Comic Con was a spectacular weekend running from the 27 thru the 29 of October with amazing cosplayers and special guest stars appearing at the main stage promoting their latest work at the LA Convention Center. Many cosplayers were dressed as their favorite superheroes, characters like Thor, Spider-man, the punisher, flash, and many more. Day one of L.A Comic Con went by a little slow while everyone was setting up their booths and panels across convention grounds. Since it was Friday nothing much was happening that day besides the great Stan Lee giving out autographs in the middle of the day. That Friday morning people arrived in their best cosplay outfits and most of them were spot on compared to movies and tv show adaptations. Comic book stands were set up in the front of the second entrance of the convention

center in the upstairs level. Many of the comic book goers were there picking up and buying their favorite comics. Whether being the Captain America issues or the old Spider-man issues they were there. Towards the end of the first day of LA Comic con the excitement was amongst Stan Lee fans who were there to see him and get his autograph on their Captain America shield or the Mjonir hammer. The line extended across the convention grounds all to get to Stan Lee, and even though line may have been drawn out it was worth to get to him. As the day was wrapping up everybody left with a taste of how intense it was going to be the next couple two days. Day 3 of LA Comic Con was mainly the most fun packed day of excitement due to the special guest stars that were attending the event, also the insane famous cosplayers displaying their hand made costumes. A couple hours into the event Chloe Bennet from Marvel’s Agents of Shield appeared at the main stage to promote the hit tv show on ABC. Many were there to see her because she’s a big part of the show. During the middle of the day there were so many other guest stars like Longmire’s Katee Sackhoff, Rose Mciever from I zombie, and many more. Fanatics were happy to have met them. Towards the end of the day everybody was waiting for Dwyane “the rock” Johnson to appear on the main stage to promote his upcoming film Jumanji. Soon when he stepped out hitting the main stage the crowd began chanting “Rocky” waving across the convention floors. He cracked a couple jokes giving the people power to ask him questions. A trailer for the film Jumanji played and at the end he paid a tribute to the late Robin Williams. Last day of the LA Comic Con was mostly the same cosplayers dressed up to show off what well job they have done to sell their outfits many others were there to buy more comic books and to gander around. It was an amazing weekend for comic book fanatics to come and enjoy the event at the LA Convention center also to meet tv stars.

Stranger Things returned for its second season just in time for Halloween. The show made its way back to Netflix this past Friday, giving fans something spooky to binge watch this October 31. Season two of the hit show brought back all the fan-favorites from the first, but also includes some newbies that are sure to be loved. Dustin (Gaten Mataraz-

zo), Will (Noah Shnapp), Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) and Mike (Finn Wolfhard) return with more hilarious and awesome friendship moments. Interrupting the Strange boys in the second season is Max (Sadie Sink). Max is unlike any of the other girls at the school, and it immediately strikes Dustin and the crew. Also new to season two is Billy, played by Dacre Montgomery, who was the Red Ranger in this summer’s Power Rangers.

Billy is another tough, gritty character who causes havoc as soon as he arrives in the city of Hawkins. Last season’s star, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) is also back to the delight of fans everywhere. Her character has developed a lot since the first season, and you can really see that in the first few episodes. She’s not in the same situation we seen her in the last time we see her in season one, but she’s still a bada**.

Other returners include Will’s mom Joyce (Winona Ryder), Hawkins’ Chief Harper (David Harbour), Nancy (Natalia Dyer), Jonathan (Charlie Heaton) and Steve (Joe Keery). Stranger Things’ season two does a great job of bringing back the creepy aura of the first season but doesn’t fail to bring a bit of a new flavor. The new flavor is in large part due to newcomer actors Dacre Montgomery and Sadie

Sink who have impactful performances. Season two visually looks the same as season one, but the Upside Down is visited in a new and exciting way. The show can be seen in 4k ultra HD on Netflix, and it’s definitely worth seeing that way if you get the chance. If you haven’t finished the show already, Stranger Things’ second season is the perfect watch for your Halloween night!

Netflix recently released a new trailer for the upcoming SciFi film Bright. The trailer for the upcoming ming Will Smith movie “Bright,” was released during San Diego Comic-Con. The film Bright takes place in an alternate present day where humans live with elves, orcs, and fairies. The Netflix blockbuster movie is directed by David Ayer who previously worked

People familiar with the Marvel films would recognize that Natalie Portman plays the Foster character in the first two “Thor” installments in the cinematic universe. played by Portman or another actress, Feige’s comments should be taken with a grain of salt. Feige only refers back to the comics as an inspirational source to feed off of to possibly adapt for further storylines in the cinematic universe. Though, with the huge success of “Wonder Woman” in this past summer’s box

office, it would be no major surprise if the people at Marvel Studios did decide to hand over the enchanted hammer and the mantle of Thor to be held by an empowering female. New Trailer For Netflix’s Bright Drops on Suicide Squad. The trailer shows that a soundtrack for Bright will be released in early November. The film incorporates fantasy elements with real world issues. The moive had multiple high-dollar bids but was eventually bought out by Netflix. This isn’t the first film Netflix has quickly invested in as they paid $60 million for Brad Pitt war comedy “War Machine” and over $100 million for Martin Scorsese’s mob movie “The Irishman” which will start filming this summer. Netflix

outbid other companies such as Warner Bros, and PalmStar’s Kevin Frakes as they invested $90 million dollars towards the film. Bright definitely looks like the biggest movie Netflix has released so far. Bright is set in an alternate present day in Los Angeles where humans and orcs share the fantasy world. The film is based around human police officer Daryl Ward who is played by Will Smith and his new partner Nick Jakoby who is LAPD’s first orc officer.

The two ofﬁcers must separate their own personal differences as they are tasked with tracking down a wand which belongs to an evil elf. They must work together to uncover a conspiracy that threatens the future of their world. David Ayer mentioned at the San Diego Comic-Con that Bright is different from Suicide Squad as this is an R-rated movie and was able to tell his own story without studio interference. One of the stars in the ﬁlm Noomi Rapace said “ Bright is a

reminder that it’s very important that we see everything in all of its complexity”, and “ Life and situations will shape us, but we shouldn’t judge people too soon”. This is the main idea of this action thriller Bright. The film Bright is being produced by Atlantic records and scripted by Max Landis. The soundtrack for the upcoming Netflix film will be available for pre-order starting November 9. The action thriller Bright is set to be released on Netflix on December 22nd.

Dodgers Lose Spooktacular Game to Astros

Game five of the World Series in Houston turned out to be one for the ages. The Houston Astros edged out the Los Angeles Dodgers 13-12 in a back-and-forth game that lasted over five hours. The Astros fans at Minute Maid Park where in shock at the beginning of game five. The Dodgers bursted out of the gates and grabbed a quick three-run lead in the very first inning. Third baseman Logan Forsythe batted in Chris Taylor and Justin Turner before scoring on an error himself. Forsythe scored again in the fourth inning after catcher Austin Barnes singled to left. This gave Los Angeles a comfortable 4-0 lead about halfway through the game. In a blink of an eye and

some swings of a bat, the Astros were right back in the game. After scoring a run off of a Carlos Correa double, the Astros’ Yuli Gurriel smacked a home run deep into left field, tying the ballgame up at 4-4. The ball started to fly out the ballpark from then on. In the fifth inning, the Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger hit a home run out to right field while two men were on base. Los Angeles once again grabbed the lead at 7-4, but it didn’t hold long. The Astros’ All-Star second baseman Jose Altuve found himself at the plate with two men on base. Altuve seen a ball he liked and crushed it out to the fans in the outfield. The game was tied again, this time at 7. Los Angeles went on to score a run in the top of the

seventh, but that proved to be too little as the Astros scored four runs in the bottom half of the seventh inning. The Dodgers found themselves down 12-9 in the ninth and final inning. Things weren’t looking good for LA until Cody Bellinger found himself on base and Yasiel Puig came up to bat. Puig, who had struggled mightily in the series and game so far, homered to left field and suddenly the Dodgers were down by just one, 12-11. The next batter, Austin Barnes, got himself a base hit and then was driven in to score by Chris Taylor. Game five of the World Series was now tied at 12-a-piece and heading to extra innings. It didn’t take long for the Astros to end the game in extra innings. The Dodgers

Rio Hondo’s women’s soccer team faced oﬀ against El Camino College October 24, Tuesday night in a home game. Soon as the Lady Roadrunners finished their warm ups the game began with the Roadrunners in black and El Camino in white while the ball was placed in the middle of the field. The referee blew his whistle and the game was a kickoﬀ between the two rivals running up and down the field battling to score. The first half of the game was steady and slow; Rio Hondo did enter El Camino territory from time to time during the first half of the game to score but the El Camino goalie blocked potential shots from Rio Hondo’s side. The

The Los Angeles Dodgers now find themselves on the brink of World Series elimination with two home games left to play on their home field. Houston will visit Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles for game six of the World Series tonight on Halloween. If the Dodgers lose, the Houston Astros will be crowned MLB Champions. If the Dodgers win, they give themselves a chance to win it all in game seven on Wednesday.

Towards the end of the first half of the game team captain of Rio Hondo Madison Mader (15) scored the first goal making it 1-0. The El Camino goalie injured her leg in the process after Mader scored, but she didn’t leave the game; she stood in her post defending her grounds. After the first half was over both teams went to opposite sides to plan their next step and improve over the second half. Once the second half went underway the lady roadrunners improved and were focused on their objective. The roadrunners were breaking through the El Camino defense and Stephanie

Arreola (10) scored the second goal making 2-0. Shortly after not even a minute the same player scored once again moving up to 3-0. El Camino improved during the middle of that game breaking through the Rio Hondo defense but failed to score. At the end of the match the Rio Hondo Captain Madison Mader felt they played eﬃciently, “I feel like we connected really well and communicated and finished our opportunities”, said Mader after their big win. There is always room for improvement and Coach Tanaka agreed as well, “There is always room for improvement and we are always striving to do the little things consistently”, said Coach Tanaka.
