The decision to participate in ESY is made by each student’s IEP team, which includes parents or guardians. ESY services are provided at no cost to families.
ESY classes have small group sizes and are supported by a full special education team. Depending on a student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), services may include special education instruction, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, social work support, educational assistants, and other related services.
When determining ESY eligibility, the IEP team considers several factors, including the student’s level of need, whether the student has lost skills during past school breaks, and how quickly those skills were regained when school resumed.
