For Rosanne Beck, life has always been about gathering around the table—whether it was a bustling kitchen full of Greek dishes and cousins growing up in Dallas or the watercolor-strewn surfaces of her design studio decades later. No wonder her namesake company, Rosanne Beck Collections, has made a name for itself by turning life’s simple pleasures into something worth celebrating. After 35 years in the paper and gift industry, Rosanne has built more than a brand. She’s built a lifestyle that gently nudges us to slow down, wrap the gift, write the note, and light the candle. To make someone feel noticed through thoughtful, beautiful details.

FROM CERAMICS TO

Rosanne’s path to creative entrepreneurship began early. As a teenager, she handpainted ceramic picture frames and wholesaled them to local shops and national retailers alike—a business savvy she inherited from her father, a Dallas restaurateur who still has his hand in the restaurant world at 94 years old. After studying education at SMU and spending two years in the classroom, Rosanne’s love for art and design came calling once again. She began hand-painting and hand-cutting custom watercolor invitations for friends and clients on the side—work that quickly outpaced her teaching job. Soon after, she launched Cross My Heart Cards, a custom invitation company that flourished for over two decades. This was her entry into the world of trade shows, wholesale accounts, and a growing loyal following that connected with her fresh, joyful aesthetic. Eventually, that little card company evolved into Rosanne Beck Collections, a full-fledged lifestyle brand offering not only stationery and invitations but also notepads, wrapping paper, greeting cards, placemats, coasters, and all the charming details that turn a table—or a Tuesday—into something memorable.

At the heart of everything Rosanne creates is a deep belief in the beauty of the everyday. She’s a champion of handwritten notes, the weeknight dinner made special with a colorful placemat, and the simple “just because” gift tied with ribbon. “These are the little gestures that make people feel seen,” she says. “It doesn’t have to be fancy—it just has to feel thoughtful.”

That ethos carries through every product her team releases. Twice a year, Rosanne spearheads two major launches—one in January focused on fresh everyday designs and one in the summer highlighting holiday collections. Her team works out of a bright, buzzing space in the Dallas Design District, where her original watercolor art is paired with graphic design to create timeless and trend-forward products. But before her art hits the shelves, it usually starts somewhere quieter.

Inspiration AT HOME & ABROAD

Rosanne paints most of her original artwork in her home studio, inspired by a rich palette of everyday experiences. Cooking at home, traveling abroad, dining out at her favorite Dallas restaurants, entertaining friends, scrolling Instagram for inspiring interiors, wandering antique markets in Round Top, Texas—or occasionally even the South of France. “Inspiration is everywhere,” she says. “Sometimes it’s the color of a dish I’m served, or a tile pattern in a little cafe. Other times, it’s just the way the sunlight falls on my kitchen table.” Her Greek heritage also plays a role in her sensibility—a love of food, family, and hospitality that runs deep and shows up in her work in subtle ways: lemons and olives, blue and white patterns, shared meals, joyful gatherings.

In a world where texting and email dominate communication, handwriting can feel like a lost art. It’s faster to send a quick message than to put pen to paper, and in many situations, that efficiency is necessary. But there’s something truly special about slowing down and creating something with intention—something personal, lasting, and beautiful. Calligraphy is enjoying a resurgence and I’m here for it!

The Art of Handwriting

I’ve always been drawn to the art of handwriting. From a young age, I loved practicing my penmanship and experimenting with ways to make words look beautiful. I’m not sure exactly where this fascination came from, but I suspect it’s rooted in my family history. My grandfather, a great storyteller and keeper of family artifacts, compiled a book of his life’s memories, complete with old photos and letters. Two of my favorite pieces in his collection are handwritten notes — one from my great grandmother offering encouragement as he set off for law school, and another, a heartfelt message written on the back of a family photo. These letters are more than just words; they are tangible connections to the past, made even more special by the personal touch of handwriting.

That’s a mouth full! If you are like me and always looking for something new to try on the grill, look no further. Barbecue season is technically 24/7/365, but in Texas we all know there’s a short span of time we like to call Spring and if you blink it’s gone. So, while you are still gung-ho on outdoor cooking without sweating, beef cheek tacos are where it’s at! Beef cheek is often referred to as barbacoa, although barbacoa is actually the method of cooking meat or the place where the meat was cooked. This method came to Texas by way of Mexico and involves slow cooking the meat in a fire pit or sometimes even underground. Eventually the word barbacoa evolved into the word barbecue. Nowadays, barbacoa is used to describe a dish where beef is slowly cooked. I like to use beef cheek due to its rich savory flavor... (plus it just sounds cool.) With Cinco de Mayo and Memorial Day right around the corner, perfect your taco and margarita game now to be the hero we all know you were meant to be. 1 package of beef cheek 1 cup of beef broth 1 medium white onion (quartered) 1 cup chopped nopalitos (aka: cactus) 1 cup chopped prickly pear 6-8 whole Mexican garlic cloves

DIRECTIONS: 1. Start with trimming up your beef cheek and seasoning with favorite beef rub 2. Place on smoker at 250° with mesquite wood/ pellet until internal temp of 170° is reached. 3. Once internal temperature is achieved, place beef cheeks in half steam pan and add in broth, onion, garlic, cactus, & prickly pear. Cover and back in the smoker for another 2-4 hours or until the cheeks are probe tender. 4. Shred the cheek meat and pull out any unwanted fat left behind. 5. The Hilton Anatole Dallas Offers Camp Anatole: A Cozy, Camp-Inspired Escape

Imagine the kiddos cozying up under twinkling party lights in their very own indoor teepee complete with a plush "campfire," camp games, stickers, books, a cuddly "Tilly the Elephant" (Hilton's adorable mascot), journals in hand accompanied by a rustic twig pencil, specialty cake pops...and LOTS of treats! Camp Anatole transforms family stays into a cozy, campsiteinspired adventure with the cutest camp-themed bedding and decor galore! With a breathtaking view of Dallas as the backdrop, I recommend my experience of glamping on the 26th floor as an effortless, memory-making family getaway this summer!

A Glimpse into the History of The Anatole

Built in 1979 by legendary developer Trammell Crow, the hotel—originally named the Loews Anatole—has long been a shining Dallas icon with “Anatole” meaning “sunrise” or "rising of the sun" in French. Sprawling across 46 acres near downtown, it was named after one of Crow’s favorite Copenhagen restaurants and opened with pyramid-topped towers offering around 900 guest rooms and an atrium with dramatic grandeur. The hotel underwent a major expansion in 1981 and added a 27-story tower, which increased the room count to over 1,600. A $125 million renovation in 2010, followed by a $30 million refresh, modernized the space while preserving its elegance. Still owned by Crow Holdings and managed by Hilton since 2005, the Anatole blends timeless elegance with world-class hospitality. In other words...no expense has been spared for a superb experience at the Hilton Anatole.

JadeWaters Resort Pool

Who says you need a tropical island to live your best poolside life? JadeWaters Resort Pool Complex was the Anatole’s $20 million water park upgrade in 2016, and is a splashy oasis right in the heart of Dallas. With a lazy river, kids’ splash zone, two 180-foot water slides, a 23-seat swim-up bar, and luxe cabanas with flatscreens, it’s the ultimate summer escape. I indulged in one of their seven exclusive poolside experiences—a cozy woven basket daybed paired with a sage green cooler packed with bottled water, coordinating striped beach towels, and a great view of the water features. What to order for a snack? A deluxe charcuterie, a cheeseburger with fries (yes, please!), plus an array of salsas and tortilla chips. Even if you’re not staying overnight, day passes and cabana rentals make JadeWaters an ideal location for a party or event. If the Texas weather doesn't cooperate on your visit, there’s always the indoor pool!

Something Sweet!

You can’t miss the bright umbrellas and inviting picnic tables outside the hotel's candy store—an explosion of color and sweetness. From bulk bins of nostalgic candy to soft-serve ice cream, Tilly the Elephant plush toys, and fun little trinkets, it’s a whimsical and charming stop for families or anyone with a sweet tooth.

A Destination for Art Appreciation

The Hilton Anatole isn’t just a hotel—it doubles as a museum. Boasting more than 1,000 exotic works of art, the property offers a cultural journey through sculptures, paintings, and architectural accents. The Trinity Corridor is lined with paintings and beautifully ornate botanical floor coverings. Among the treasures are two massive segments of the Berlin Wall--symbols of freedom--with German artist Jurden Grope's 1990 painted touches including a message which translates as "a long length of time." A pair of eight-foot-tall elephants, carved in Thailand in 1983 and purchased by the Crow Collection to commemorate the 1984 Republican National Convention held at the hotel, stand majestically outside the Chantilly Ballroom. It’s an art experience woven into every step of your stay.

Top Golf Swing Suite

Whether you're hanging out with the family or hosting a team-building event, the Top Golf Swing Suite provides interactive fun for all ages. Located in the Grand Atrium, it offers three bays for immersive virtual games. Choose from over 40 golf courses, or switch it up with zombie dodgeball, football, baseball, or hockey. You don’t even have to be a hotel guest to book a bay. My golf skills? Let's just say they left much to be desired, but the delicious food and the laughs made up for it!

I recently spoke with two young women in their 20s who shared their feelings of awkwardness when meeting new people. The act of slowing down, picking up a pen, and thoughtfully crafting words by hand is a quiet but powerful gesture. Through my work at B Goods Lettering, I’m on a mission to help others rediscover the magic of creating with their hands.

How It All Began

My creative journey started with a simple love for lettering. I would letter favorite quotes and verses for myself and others. What began as a personal hobby evolved into something bigger as I realized how many people longed to reconnect with analog creativity. I began teaching lettering and sharing the joy of wax seals.

Why I Do What I Do

At B Goods Lettering, my mission is to encourage creativity, connection, and a slower, more intentional way of living. I believe in the power of handmade details—whether it’s the elegant curve of a letterform or the satisfying press of a wax seal. The Timeless Power of a

Letter..

here are few things as satisfying to me as seeing paper filled with heartfelt words in ink. Dragging a rollerball pen across carefully chosen stationary, watching the ink spread and becoming lines of beautiful sentiments seems to have fallen out of practice. Putting thoughts to paper shows intention in a world so consumed with technology and the convenience of digital communication. It gives you something physical to hold that you can revisit endlessly and find new meaning with every read...a testament to the timeless power of words. In my twenty-one years of life, I have learned that one of the most meaningful gifts we can give is a letter.

Pen Pals

I wrote, folded, and packed my first letter in junior high as a cliche assignment to write a letter to my future self. I had no idea how much that future girl would love letters and the mindfulness of sitting with my thoughts and gathering my words. My Nan, my grandmother on my mother’s side, and I decided we would become weekly pen pals. Although we only lived an hour apart, every Tuesday we mailed a letter to each other. Around Thursday, I was always walking with anticipation to the mailbox to find the gift of my letter! She would tuck extra treasures in it like Bible verses, newspaper cartoons, or stickers. It felt like getting a hug despite the distance. I have saved them, and her unmistakable handwriting stirs many memories I might have otherwise forgotten. They serve as a reminder of how much she loves me by the intentional effort she made. As we get older, we grow out of many things, but writing can always grow with us.

The Boy with the Bright Smile

When I was younger, I met a beautiful boy with dark chocolate hair and eyes that radiated kindness. Camron had the brightest smile I had ever seen, which eventually illuminated my world in a way I will never forget. Years later, after we had grown up, those two kids found their way into each other’s hearts and shared an extraordinary love that was both profoundly deep yet whimsical all at the same time. We became the best of friends and created the deepest bond. I learned the importance of sharing the words in my heart through the tragic loss of Cam in an accident in 2023.

Letter Writing as a Means to Work Through Grief

One of the most significant ways God has carried me through the anguish of losing Camron is by writing my feelings to him daily. Little did I know that years of letter writing to my Nan would become the very practice that has helped me through my grief. I have filled three journals! When he was alive, conveying my love for him felt impossible because words just seemed insufficient. Now, I wish every day that I could hand him these journals to read. I have learned that sometimes, the most beautiful writing comes from the most painful parts of life.

Healing and Hydrangeas

Even in the absence of words, when I am deep in my grief and unable to truly describe what I feel, I am thankful for the omnipotent, healing power of God. Pray. Be still. He knows the words- He is the very Creator of them. He also knows our hearts when we struggle to make sense of what is inside. When Cam and I would dream of a life together, we always said we would have white hydrangeas in the front flower beds of our home. Although this now looks much different than I once thought, I have taken white hydrangeas and read from the three journals at every graveside visit.

A Challenge to Correspond

Each pen stroke can bring a moment of calm reflection towards therapeutic healing, even if you don’t mail them. Keep the art of letter writing alive. Grab your favorite pen and paper and write to someone you love, God...or yourself ! My Nan and I have always had a little saying that goes, “Guess what? I’m gonna keep you!” Although I didn’t get to keep my sweet Cam, I will always keep these letters. Rylee Bass is a college student at Baylor University majoring in psychology with the intent of helping others work through grief through the power of prayer and writing.

Waxahachie is officially the Crape Myrtle Capital of Texas, and this summer we’re embracing 175 years of patriotic pride with the 27th Annual Crape Myrtle Festival. On July 3, enjoy a concert by Big City Outlaws, followed by the iconic H-E-B Fireworks Show at the Waxahachie Sports Complex. Then, on July 4, the celebration will continue at 10 a.m. with the hometown parade from Getzendaner Park down Main Street to downtown. This celebration of freedom, family, and community feels like it was lifted straight from a Norman Rockwell painting of a street lined with crape myrtles, American flags waving, with families and neighbors gathered on the lawns of historic homes preserved with love. Our city doesn’t slow down when Summer heats up. All around town, including Railyard Park, our beautiful outdoor amphitheater, we’re celebrating 175 years with a lineup of events for every age and interest. uilt on a series of hills, like its larger sister Lisbon, sits the historic city of Porto with the Douro River winding through the city dividing the populated right bank of Porto from the opposite Vila Nova De Gaia. Porto is home to some of the world’s largest port wine cellars. If you haven’t tasted port before, sampling some in Portugal is a must. This fortified sweet wine is often served with dessert and is typically described as rich, leathery, and fruity in taste. Graham’s Port Lodge offers a wonderful tour where you can sample three different port wines on a terrace overlooking the river, while Taylor’s Port Lodge is a larger facility with a self-guided audio tour. Everything you want to see in beautiful Porto is within walking distance of most hotels. I recommend staying at Torel Palace, a five-star boutique hotel housed in an 1861 building that was once a literary-inspired retreat for some of Portugal’s illustrious writers and poets. From there, a tenminute walk will find you standing in awe of the São Bento Railway Station where its lobby walls are completely covered in magnificent blue tiles, called azulejos. Close by is the famous Lello Bookstore where there is always a long line to see inside the gothic style space that was the inspiration for Hogwarts Library in Harry Potter. Another iconic site to behold is Igreja Capela das Almas (Chapel of Souls) with its exterior blue & white tiles depicting scenes from the various lives of saints. Porto is also a serious destination for foodies with numerous pastry shops and cafes at every turn. You can also find ten Michelin-starred restaurants in Porto as well as the Mercado do Bolhão food market, a culinary paradise in the city center where merchants set up elaborate displays selling meats, fish, cheese, and fresh flowers. There are also several restaurants inside the market. From Porto, we headed into the Douro River Valley. The Douro Valley is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage site with miles and miles of terraced sun-drenched vineyards lining dramatic hillsides along the river. It is truly a breathtaking scene. We had a private driver who took us through romantic two-lane villages dotted with medieval stone houses, but as we got further into the valley it became more harrowing at times as our van took hairpin turns around huge granite bluffs on one side of the narrow road and incredibly steep terraced vineyards cascading downward with no guardrails. If you do not want to drive, you can take a train from Porto and arrive at the small postcard-perfect town of Pinhão where whitewashed quintas (wine estates) are all built up on the mountainsides. We stopped to tour Quinta de la Rosa and enjoyed trying their awardwinning ports and wines in their ultra-modern tasting room. Another good stop is at Quinta do Bomfim, one of the oldest port houses in the world dating back to the 1800’s. We opted to stay the night at the Vintage House Hotel in Pinhão, a gorgeous riverside haven surrounded by terraced hillsides. If we had known how wonderful the resort is, we would have planned for a longer stay and look forward to coming back. Pinhão, although a very small town, serves as a good base for exploring the many surrounding vineyards. I have experienced the wine regions in California’s Napa Valley, Spain’s Ribera del Duero, and the rolling hills of Tuscany, but the Portuguese wine region is truly one of my favorites with unmatched beauty and very reasonably priced wines. On our last morning in Pinhão, we walked down to the hotel’s dock and boarded a sailboat for a lovely cruise with the Ânima Durius boat owner, Paulo, and his dog Lua. It was a highlight of our trip and a perfect way to spend our final day. As we sailed past terraced vineyards, orchards, and whitewashed villages we relaxed on the boat enjoying some of the region's famous ports. We talked about all the things we had seen and done over the past week and reminded ourselves why we love Portugal, vowing to return as soon as possible.
