Fans from across the globe will be converging on North Texas for the 2026 FIFA World Cup (June 14-July 14). While matches will be held throughout the Dallas–Fort Worth area and Houston, many international visitors will explore charming nearby destinations — including Waxahachie — for dining, shopping, and Texas hospitality. Following the World Cup excitement, the Waxahachie Sports Complex will be home to the DFW Youth World Baseball Classic (July 31-August 3) where youth teams will play for their heritage representing USA, Texas, Spain, Puerto Rico, Asia, Europe, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Italy, Australia, Africa and more. This tournament will bring over 20 teams traveling internationally to vie for the championship and celebrate cultural pride through the sport of baseball.

In addition to the international attention these events have garnered, summer 2026 marks a once-in-a-lifetime milestone: the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

Waxahachie – proudly known as the Crape Myrtle Capital of Texas – will honor this moment with the 28th Annual Crape Myrtle Festival. On July 3rd, enjoy a concert by ZZ Tex, a tribute to ZZ Top, followed by the iconic H-E-B Fireworks Show at the Waxahachie Sports Complex.

On July 4, the spirit of America comes alive with a hometown parade making its way from Getzendaner Park down Main Street to Downtown Waxahachie. This celebration of freedom, family, and community feels like it was lifted straight from a Norman Rockwell painting of a street lined with crape myrtles, American flags waving, and families and neighbors gathered on the lawns of historic homes preserved with love. Waxahachie’s calendar of signature events offers something for every traveler and local alike.

From around the world to right here at home, 2026 is shaping up to be a celebration 250 years in the making — and there’s no better place to experience it than Waxahachie.

THE PECOS WORKSTATION One of the most genius designs and the ultimate outdoor table. Made in the USA, the Pecos Workstation is the ultimate portable table for your outdoor adventures. Using the best materials available, Pecos was made for durability and performance. Bougie your table up with add-ons like the Paloma magnetic cutting board and the Hyde cooler pad with magnets. Customize it by picking your tabletop color and leg color, then choose some attachments. My favorites include the trash bag ring, beverage holder, and paper towel holder. Organization is not my jam, but this workstation makes me look like Marie Kondo (Google her and then purchase one). Discount code: JASONWILSON10

MEAT CHURCH BBQ CHARCOAL Ever have your initials etched out in charcoal briquettes?! Yeah, me neither, but Meat Church has, and if for that reason alone, mad respect. Fortunately, their new line is not only stylish, but it’s legit and comes in chunks, charcoal, and chips…the perfect trifecta for any backyard kitchen collection. The BBQ gurus (or critics) have spoken, and these products are highly regarded for their quality and effectiveness in creating a superior BBQ experience. You can find them online or locally at places like Ace Hardware. Even better? Wrapping is not necessary!

SPACEMAN TACPACK KNIFE BAG A tactical backpack full of knives? Sounds dangerous, I’m in! This is a knife bag unlike any other, one that leaves space for other necessities like seasonings, temp probes, beer (hey, there’s water in beer), and even a laptop! This backpack made it through the ultimate test: Disney World, but made it manly! That’s right…snacks, lapel pins, mouse ears, and suntan lotion all while looking like a stud. “This isn’t a knife roll—it’s a field kit for flavor warfare. The Spaceman TacPack was built for chefs, pitmasters, and BBQ rebels who need gear as tough as they are. Inspired by military-grade packs and engineered for real-world kitchen ops, this thing hauls like a beast and looks even better doing it.” Discount code: MEATTHERAPY10

TURTLEBOX RANGER Although everything is bigger in Texas, some good things come in small packages (rare, but possible). This miniature version of the original outdoor speaker still packs a mean punch. These speakers are rugged, waterproof, and deliver premium sound. The best part about the Ranger is its magnetic side mounts that give me so many options of what to attach it to. Its compact size and 12+ hour battery life support my life on the go. Fully customizable, they make them the perfect personalized gift, the cherry on top of the backyard BBQ experience.

MEET THEduo BEHINDMultitudes Home

A CONVERSATION WITH KELLY HALE & KRISTA BARTOS

What began as a shared passion for helping friends and neighbors with their homes has grown into a thriving business serving homeowners across North Texas. Kelly Hale and Krista Bartos, the team behind Multitudes Home, are known for creating spaces that feel layered, welcoming, and deeply personal to the people who live in them.

We sat down with Kelly and Krista to learn more about their journey into the design world and what they now offer their clients.

Q: HOW DID MULTITUDES HOME BEGIN?

KELLY: We started our business in 2023, and in many ways, it began simply because people kept asking us for help with their homes. Friends would say, “You should be doing this professionally.” We both had a love for decorating and a good eye for spaces, but at the time, we didn’t know much about the industry itself.

KRISTA: Once we opened the business, we quickly realized how much there was to learn. Our path into design didn’t begin in a traditional classroom, but through handson experience with clients, vendors, and construction professionals, we’ve developed a deep understanding of how thoughtful, welldesigned homes come together.

Q: HOW HAS YOUR WORK EVOLVED SINCE THOSE EARLY DAYS?

KELLY: In the beginning, we probably would have described ourselves as decorators. We were helping clients select furnishings, artwork, and accessories. But over time, our projects have naturally grown in scope. Today we are involved in a wide range of projects— from room-by-room decorating to full-home renovations.

KRISTA: Right now, we have several exciting projects underway, including a full-home renovation, a kitchen addition, and a primary bathroom renovation. As our projects have grown, we’ve also become more involved in the renovation process itself. Today, we often work alongside contractors and trade professionals to help guide selections, layouts, and design decisions before construction begins. We’ve learned that thoughtful planning early in a project can make a tremendous difference in how smoothly a renovation unfolds—and in how successful the finished

space ultimately feels for the homeowner. And, we continue to also work with clients who want to thoughtfully furnish their homes over time, room by room. Every project is different, which keeps our work interesting. One exciting way we’ve been able to help homeowners this year is by creating 3D walkthrough renderings so our clients can visualize their space before construction or before making major purchases.

Q: WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER HOMEOWNERS TODAY?

KELLY: Our work really covers the full spectrum of home design. Some clients come to us because they are renovating their homes and need guidance in coordinating selections and working alongside their contractor. Others simply want help making their home feel finished and reflective of their personality.

KRISTA: We love that balance. Some projects involve large structural changes, while others are about layering a space with the right furniture, textiles, lighting, and artwork. We also offer a variety of à la carte services depending on what a homeowner needs. Ultimately, our goal is to help people feel confident about the decisions they’re making in their home.

Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR DESIGN PHILOSOPHY?

KELLY: We try not to box ourselves into one specific style. People naturally gravitate toward different aesthetics, so our focus is always on creating a home that reflects the people who live there.

KRISTA: However, even though we help clients with various types of design styles, we’re personally very drawn to spaces that feel timeless and layered. Our strengths lie in mixing antiques with newer pieces, using natural materials, or allowing a home to evolve over time instead of trying to make everything perfect all at once. If a client asks about trends, we don’t necessarily say no—but we do encourage them to focus on what they truly love. Trends come and go quickly, but when a home reflects your life and your story, it never feels outdated.

Q: WHAT INSPIRES THE WORK YOU DO?

KELLY: Our mission really guides everything we do. At Multitudes Home, we believe your home should feel like you—a place that reflects your heart, your joys, and the life you live.

KRISTA: When a space is designed around what truly matters to someone, it becomes more than just beautiful. It becomes authentic, and that’s what we want every client to experience.

Q: WHAT PROJECTS ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?

KRISTA: We currently have several major projects underway across North Texas, including the Blue Heron Project, Bristol Homestead, Modern Lakehouse Retreat, and the Graham Project. While many of these projects are still in progress, each represents our thoughtful, collaborative approach.

KELLY: We love being part of the journey as a home evolves. Most projects take time, but that often leads to the most meaningful results.

Q: WHAT DO YOU HOPE CLIENTS EXPERIENCE WHEN WORKING WITH YOU?

KRISTA: We want people to feel supported and excited about their home. Designing a space can feel overwhelming, especially during renovations, and we love helping bring clarity to the process.

KELLY: At the end of the day, the most important thing is that a homeowner walks into their space and feels like it truly belongs to them.

About the Designers

Kelly Hale and Krista Bartos are the founders of Multitudes Home, a North Texas design business known for creating layered, livable spaces that reflect the personalities and lifestyles of the homeowners they serve.

Based in Waxahachie, they work with clients across the Dallas–Fort Worth area on projects ranging from room-by-room decorating to large-scale renovations.

Wallace & Rosemary

PALMER HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEARTS CELEBRATE 75 YEARS OF MARRIAGE A Story of Faith, Family...and a whole lot of FUN!

Wallace and Rosemary (Clopton) Hughey married in Palmer, Texas, on February 3, 1951. Wallace was born on June 9, 1929, and Rosemary on August 2. 1931, and were delivered by the same doctor. Both of their families settled in Ellis County in the 1800s. The couple has been blessed with three children: Wally Jr., Larry, and Gay. They have five grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren. Wallace retired as a regional sales manager of Campbell Soup in 1990, and they have

traveled extensively over the past 36 years. Wallace also served as active Mayor of Palmer for about six years from 1992-1998, giving him the opportunity to also experience Washington DC in action. Wallace, 96, and Rosemary, 94, are still active members at the Grace Baptist Church in Palmer. They celebrated their 75th anniversary with family and friends in February, and a recent phone call sharing their backstory offers some positive advice and wisdom from their successful marriage!

WALLACE (he said...)

I'm sitting over here in Ennis on a couch waiting for my turn to get a haircut. We are at Tisha's. Nice folks. Rosemary is in the chair now, and I'm next. We go every Friday. I'll tell you how we first met, and then I'll pass the phone and let her share her side of the story!

I first saw Rosemary when she was 14. Palmer was a small high school. On a side note, my family settled in Palmer in 1886, and we knew most of the people around. I was a senior and remember complaining to my Mom: "There are just not ANY girls here at this school. Not ANY!" I was an athlete, and we had a senior banquet. The sophomore girls, dressed in Hawaiian-style costumes, had decorated with a tropical theme and served our food. Mom noticed Rosemary and pointed her out to me. "Hey what about that cute little Clopton girl?" Well, I was shy, but I decided to follow her around and got interested from afar. I finally asked her to the school dance. Her father knew my grandfather, who owned the local grocery store and considered him a fine man, and I received the approval.

Of course, we didn't have a telephone, and she lived out in the country. Her family had settled the Rockett area around 1840. In fact, her grandmother saw one of the last bears in that thicket area. The road conditions between our homes were so bad that I couldn't physically reach her, so I wrote and mailed letters to her. Only her name and town were needed on the envelope! I mailed fifty-some odd letters calling her "Sweetheart," "Darling," etc., only to find out her mother was reading them first! I was determined to see Rosemary. I even rode a horse over, and eventually I bought a Model A to go see her, and we would play games for entertainment. If I went to the picture show in Palmer, I would write to her about it. I gave her a radio as a gift because that was a big deal back then! I knew I wanted to marry her. I tried to put a ring on her finger in high school!

When I graduated and joined the Air Force, I continued to write to her from San Antonio while I was in basic training. I was still set on marrying her. Although I was her first date, she dated others when I was away. I came back from San Antonio with a new convertible and wearing a uniform. The uniform did the job! "You marry me, and you're going to go to Europe, wear a fur coat, and drive a Cadillac!" I stood there saying those words to Rosemary, and as a young man in basic training, I had no idea how I was going to make that happen. But God had a plan. She said "yes," and all three of those promises I made that day came true in the years that followed.

We had wonderful years as a family with our three kids. Rosemary was such a great homemaker. She was so talented and very artistic. She enjoyed ceramics and also loved painting animals. I was active in the Lions Club and the Palmer Preservation Society. We've traveled quite a bit, and Yosemite really stands out as a favorite trip of ours in America. Our travels included about 25 cruises and one transatlantic trip. We were with a tour group and made numerous trips to Europe, including Paris, London, Rome, Ireland, Scotland, Berlin (we chipped the wall!), and the French Riviera. I have a fun story about Paris. One night, we were watching a show and sitting up front. I told Rosemary, if I get a chance...I'm going to get up on that stage! Well, guess what? A French gal grabbed me out of the audience, and I was grinning like a possum. I stepped onto the table, then onto the stage, and danced. Not like Fred Astaire, but more like a corkscrew. Someone yelled, "How is it you Texans have a 'little extra'?!" Applause determined the winner, and I won, hands down! My birthday was the next day, and it was one heck of a way to celebrate! On our Israel trip, it was amazing to walk where Christ walked. We got into the Dead Sea and then explored high above it at Masada. Many people in their later years wish they had traveled more. We really feel blessed that we made it happen, and we both encourage others to travel.

Life at 75 years of blissful marriage? Faith, family, and a whole lot of fun! We get out every day and have a good time, whether that means going to church, hanging out with our family, or checking our stock ponds. We try to stay appreciative and positive, even if we have to do things like go to the hospital. I got a Pacemaker recently and I had to go from Waxahachie Baylor to Big Baylor. People at the hospitals couldn't have been nicer. Gratitude and looking for the best in life are important to us. I was in sales for all those years and nobody wants to be around negative people. Instead, stay happy and on top of the world! Wisdom and advice? Well, like I said I fell in love with Rosemary when she was 14. Got married at 19. True love! It seems a lot of people "get married to get married," but for us, it was, and still is, true love. We laugh a lot; we hug a lot. Even at this age we keep holding hands.

ROSEMARY (she said...same!)

We have never, ever had any big problems because we just love each other so much! Wallace is so very loving and kind, and I return that love. I can honestly say that we have a beautiful marriage founded in genuine love, which stemmed from our first meeting at his senior banquet in school. The sophomore girls, wearing grass skirts and serving food, were noticed by Wallace's mother, who told him to notice me, and he sure did after that! Since I had never been on a date, I had to ask my parents' permission when he asked if I could go to the school dance. Daddy mulled it around and said...well...his grandfather is a great guy. If it weren't for Papa's (JW Hughey, Wallace's grandpa, who owned a grocery store in Palmer) good reputation, I might not have been allowed to go to the dance!

We started dating, and although we didn't live that far from each other, the poor road conditions often kept us apart. Wallace kept in communication by writing me so many letters. My mother kept all the letters and tied them together, and we used them as part of the centerpiece at our 75th anniversary celebration in February.

Our marriage is easy! We laugh, kiss, hug, and still hold hands. I'm not kidding when I say we have so much fun and I still drive! What is my favorite date? Going out to eat together! We love the Bluebonnet Cafe in Ennis...and of course the DQ!

THE DALLAS ARBORETUM

BOTANICAL GARDENS

Where Every Season Tells a Story...

About the Dallas Arboretum

Set along the serene shores of White Rock Lake, the Dallas Arboretum ranks among the top arboretums globally. With its 66 acres blooming in a living tapestry of color, history, and quiet wonder, every winding path invites curiosity, and every season brings a fresh story you won't want to miss.

What began as the dream of the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Society (DABS) visionaries in 1974 has blossomed into one of the city's most beloved escapes. The homes and acreage surrounding both historic gems, the Alex Camp House and the DeGolyer Estate, were purchased and developed to preserve heritage and nature, beautifully blending history with science and education. The Dallas Arboretum first opened to the public in 1984. The dream continues to grow as visitors from around the world are welcomed daily to wander, learn, and linger. For those who fall in love (as many do), membership offers a deeper connection with insider perks and volunteer opportunities. Being one of the nation's younger arboretums, there is continued room for growth.

MELISSA MCBRIDE

Hunt Slonem: Bunnies, Birds & Butterflies

This season, the gardens take on a playful new energy with Hunt Slonem: Bunnies, Birds & Butterflies. From April 20 through September 30, Slonem's whimsical, larger-than-life sculptures and vibrant works by the internationally celebrated neo-expressionist artist transform the landscape into an open-air gallery with colorful creations emerging from the blooms. With 28 installations and more than 100 works placed throughout the garden—and a curated collection inside the Historic Camp House—the experience is equal parts art walk and daydream. Don’t miss Twilight Nights, offered Friday through Sunday evenings, when the garden glows with an extra touch of whimsy and delight.

Cool Thursdays

Music lovers can claim their patch of lawn during the annual Cool Thursdays concert series, returning April 23 through November 5. SELF-CARE + SELF-LOVE A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS IN & OUT OF OUR MED SPA

MY APPROACH TO WELLNESS + AESTHETICS:

I’m not here to change your face—I’m here to help you feel like yourself again. We optimize hormones, support your body from the inside out, and layer in aesthetics intentionally—not all a t once, not overdone.

WHAT I'M KNOWN FOR:

Natural, balanced results. You’ll look refreshed, not “done.” I use tox and filler to enhance—not erase who you are.

WHAT I'M LOVING RIGHT NOW:

Microneedling with PDGF (game changer), CO2 for real skin correction, and a skincare lineup that actually works—Statur, ZO Firming Serum, and Alastin Hydratint.

OUTSIDE THE CLINIC:

I’m with my husband, loving on my grandkids, or booking our next trip before I even unpack from the last one.

COFFEE ORDER ( don't mess it up!) :

Americano with a ½ pump sugar-free vanilla from Bloom & Pour.

LOCAL FAVORITES:

Copper Rose + Blume—because I like nice things too.

CURRENT FOOD OBSESSION:

Tuscan Slice. The pizza? Unreal.

WHY WAXAHACHIE:

This town built me just as much as I built my business. The support here is real— and it’s a big part of why Revive is what it is today.

REVIVE AESTHETICS is proud to give back to our local community we call home. From participating in Dancing with the Ellis County Stars to being honored by the Waxahachie Chamber “Small Business of the Year,” we love staying involved. We also partner with CASA to support local at-risk children and were excited to be sponsors of the Waxahachie Fire Department’s first Casino Night—because community always comes first.

I specialize in client communication at Revive, ensuring every person feels heard, comfortable, and fully informed about their treatments.

My favorite thing about living in Waxahachie is the sense of community that was impossible to achieve in Dallas. I also love getting to know all of the small business owners and supporting one another!

I specialize in creating subtle, balanced, and refreshed results that still look like you—with tox and filler.

My favorite boutique in Waxahachie is Blume Boutique—they always have the best pieces that are effortless but still put together. Stacy

I specialize in customizing skincare plans for each of my clients, facials, and all things laser! My go-to would be micro needling and dermaplaning and CO2 with PDGF…and a lip flip!

My favorite restaurant is Panzas—just an Italian girl at heart and love a full glass wine pour!!! Good vibes, good views, good food, good wine...what more could you ask for?!

Mia

I specialize in aesthetic treatments—tox and microneedling! Simple treatments with noticeable results My favorite treatment to perform and offer is Sculptra (worth the wait for results!!!) and of course my lip flip—an unexpected treatment that people are loving.

Outside of the clinic you'll find me running around with my babies—deep in my mom era. My favorite coffee shop is Fresh Market, and my go-to order is always a Coconut Macaroon Iced Latte.

Spring Reset:

8 SIMPLE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR HOME FEEL FRESH

pring has a way of inspiring fresh starts—and your home deserves one too. Whether you’re planning to stay put or simply thinking ahead, a few simple updates can completely transform how your space feels.

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

S ...& Buyer Ready!

Here are eight easy ways to refresh your home this season:

LET THE LIGHT IN

Start with your windows. Clean glass, open curtains, and swap heavy drapes for lighter fabrics to instantly brighten your space.

SWAP OUT WINTER TEXTURES

Trade chunky throws and dark tones for light linens, soft cottons, and neutral palettes that reflect the season.

BRING IN GREENERY

Fresh flowers or potted plants breathe life into any room. Even a small arrangement on the kitchen counter can make a big impact.

REFRESH YOUR SCENT

Seasonal scents like citrus, linen, or soft florals can subtly change the mood of your home.

DECLUTTER SURFACES, EDIT YOUR DÉCOR

Clear countertops, coffee tables, and entryways. Less visual noise creates a calmer, more inviting environment. Remove a few items from shelves and tabletops. A more curated look feels intentional and elevated.

ADD A POP OF COLOR

Think pillows, art, or a simple vase—small accents can brighten a neutral space without overwhelming it.

DEEP CLEAN THE OVERLOOKED AREAS

Baseboards, ceiling fans, and light fixtures often go unnoticed—but they make a difference when sparkling clean.

FRESHEN UP THE ENTRYWAY

Your home’s first impression starts here. A clean mat, a simple plant, and a tidy space set the tone.

The best part? These changes don’t just make your home feel better—they help it show better, too! Whether you're welcoming guests, simply enjoying a quiet evening in, or thinking about making a move soon, a fresh, open space makes all the difference.

STORY & PHOTOS BY MARY CROOK

ParisSpringtime in

My mother-in-law is in her eighties and has traveled quite a bit, yet Paris had somehow always slipped through the cracks. Last year, she made a simple request: would I take her to Paris in the spring? She didn’t have to ask me twice.

We arrived on a brilliant, sunlit morning. We headed straight to the elegant Victoria Palace Hotel, a boutique gem in the 6th arrondissement—one of my favorite neighborhoods in Paris. The area is quintessential Left Bank with the gorgeous Jardin du Luxembourg just steps away. Iconic caféssit at every corner, bustling with Parisians and tourists sipping trendy cocktails. Perfect for people watching.

After dropping our bags, we set off for lunch at Café Varenne, a beloved bistro famed for its classic French comfort dishes. Its duck confit, roast chicken, and steak frites have earned a loyal following—including that of Ina Garten, author of many of my mother-in-law’s favorite cookbooks (besides mine, of course). Over lunch, we toasted to the beginning of our adventure. We then wandered through the chic aisles of Le Bon Marché, pausing to sample French perfumes before crossing the street to La Grande Épicerie de Paris, its gourmet counterpart. This sprawling food hall is a feast for the senses—artisanal cheeses, macarons in every flavor and color, crusty baguettes, and chilled bottles of champagne. We gathered yogurt, pastries, and a few treats for the hotel before strolling back to rest up before dinner. I prefer a good French bistro over a trendy Michelin restaurant, and dinner our first night at Chez L'Ami Jean never disappoints. Chef Stéphane Jego is known for his exceptional terrines and wild game dishes.

The next morning, we embraced the best antidote to jet lag: a café crème and croissant at Carette near the Trocadéro as we mapped out a day of intense sightseeing. Early mornings at the Trocadéro offer one of the most spectacular views of the Eiffel Tower before the crowds descend. From there, we boarded a boat on the Seine headed toward Notre Dame Cathedral. I hadn’t toured NotreDame in years, and seeing it again after its painstaking restoration was breathtaking. To avoid long lines, we downloaded the official app and secured a free timed-entry reservation for 8:00 a.m.—a small but invaluable strategy for anyone planning a packed itinerary.

From the cathedral, we strolled along the Seine to the Musée d’Orsay, housed in a former railway station and home to some of the world’s most iconic Impressionist masterpieces. I’ve always preferred it over the Louvre for its manageable size and intimate feel. After soaking in the art, we headed for lunch at Les Antiquaires, a pretty Parisian brasserie to fuel up before shopping at the legendary Galeries Lafayette, where its breathtaking Art Nouveau dome floods the grand hall with light as you work your way up the escalators to the rooftop terrace for spectacular views of the city.

Our third day was devoted to Monet’s Gardens in Giverny, about an hour outside Paris. We hired a guide through a company called The French Experience. The owner, Steve Leftist, picked us up at our hotel, shared insights into Monet’s life and inspirations, handled our entrance tickets, and even bought us lunch. Arriving early is essential to enjoy the beautiful gardens and Monet’s charming home in all its glory, before tour buses crowd the small village.

Back in Paris, we continued our outdoor theme with dinner at Ralph’s. Though American, it’s one of the city’s top dining spots, located within the flagship Ralph Lauren boutique in a historic townhouse on Boulevard Saint-Germain. Dining in its courtyard—once a watering hole for horsedrawn carriages—felt magical, with striped cushions, crisp linens, and blue-and-white china. The next morning was Saturday, my favorite day to spend at the famous flea market at Les Puces de SaintOuen. I can never resist digging through the back alleys or bargaining for an old copper pot to add to our collection—one of the main reasons I check a bag when traveling to Paris.

Our final day was spent outside Paris at the magnificent Palace of Versailles. We opted for a thirty-minute Uber drive so my mother-inlaw didn’t have to walk from the train station and could save her energy for touring the palace, especially the famous Hall of Mirrors. We also rented a golf cart and spent a glorious afternoon exploring the vast gardens with 50 fountains, 155 statues, and more than 200,000 trees. After a day immersed in the Baroque grandeur of Louis XIV, it seemed only fitting to dine at Le Procope, Paris’s oldest café since 1686 and once frequented by Voltaire, Rousseau, and Benjamin Franklin. Its antique décor and revolutionary ambiance were the perfect finale to a remarkable adventure.

As we flew home, I realized this trip had been more than checking Paris off a bucket list. It was about sharing something—lingering at a sidewalk cafe, standing in awe beneath gilded ceilings, wandering gardens Monet once painted, and savoring all the delicious food. In her eight decades, my mother-in-law has seen much of the world, yet Paris still managed to surprise and enchant her. And watching the City of Light reveal itself through her eyes may have been the greatest gift of all.
