If you need the almighty departures board to bless your voyage or the weather to cooperate with immovable outdoor plans, you must either have faith in the journey or endure its delays. A new adventure series blends faith into the journey in “The Chosen In the Wild With Bear Grylls,” a six-episode trek through rough Utah terrain with the cast of bible drama, “The Chosen,” premiering Sunday, Aug. 9, on Prime Video. All episodes will be available to stream on premiere day. Grylls has made a career of televising inadvisable wilderness treks for over two decades. Best known for “Man vs. Wild,” Grylls has made a name for himself as a globetrotting survivalist who could thrive in any environment he parachuted into. In a successful 2009 special, Grylls traveled with a bud-
dy for the first time, guiding comedian Will Ferrell (“The Hawk”) through Arctic survival techniques. Grylls and the “Man vs. Wild” team struck gold, and several iterations of the concept (the survivalist leads a Hollywood star through a grueling trek) have followed, including the NBC series “Running Wild With Bear Grylls.” Now Grylls has combined his personal faith with his greatest passion to make “The Chosen In the Wild With Bear Grylls.” Cast members of “The Chosen,” a religious historical drama with five seasons now streaming on Prime Video, join Grylls for an adventure in Utah, the beehive state. Actors Jonathan Roumie (“Jesus Revolution,” 2023), Paras Patel (“Nashville”), Elizabeth Tabish (“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” 2024), Noah James (“Shameless”) and Luke Dimyan (“Home Invasion”) as well as series creator and executive producer Dallas Jenkins (“The Resur-
rection of Gavin Stone,” 2017) have spent time in Utah filming “The Chosen,” but Grylls has something a bit more exciting than set life planned for them. Grylls leads the cast “through Utah’s treacherous Castle Valley, Canyonlands, the Ausable River, the Colorado River, the Great Basin Desert and the Adirondack Forest,” per Prime Video. From deserts and dunes to forests and valleys, Utah is home to some of the most diverse terrain in the nation, perfect for Grylls to test the endurance of his guests with. From Prime Video, “for decades, Bear has survived dangerous expeditions around the globe, anchored by his faith in Jesus. Now he’s taking the stars of the global hit series ‘The Chosen’ on missions into the unknown.” The press release continues, “five extraordinary actors and their series creator will face their fears in the wilderness as Bear explores what
makes his guests tick, digs into their spirituality in a deeply personal way, and pushes them to their ultimate limits.” While there was no trailer released as of the writing of this article, Grylls had shared an Instagram post about the upcoming series, calling on all fans of the religious drama to check out the new survivalist show. “’The Chosen In the Wild’ is where I get to take some of the cast, including Jonathan Roumie who plays Jesus himself ... to get to know [them] in a way you’ve never seen them before. To hear their stories, hear about their journey, their faith, their experience of working on this remarkable TV show,” Grylls said in the video. The upcoming series is executive produced by Grylls, Jenkins, Brad Pelo (“Jonathan & Jesus”), Katherine Warnock (“Journey to the Sermon on the Mount,” 2021), Ben Simon (“Return to Nim’s Island,” 2013), and more.
