Oh, the aromas! Strolling the streets of Ellicottville gets your tummies grumbling every time, as restaurants prepare their delicious selections for your dining pleasure. And some newcomers to the area now offer even more great selections for every age and preference in what is fast becoming a western New York dining destination. Let’s start with the new kids on the block. The Armor Inn, with its original location in Hamburg, N.Y., opens its second restaurant in the Village Centre plaza next to the Red Apple store on Mill Street, this Friday, Dec. 19. The family-friendly restaurant offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and is famous for its affordable, lip-smacking BBQ, along with steaks, seafood and more. The comfortable bar area is a perfect evening gathering place for adults to watch bigname, national blues acts on the stage. And a $5 late-night appetizer selection will keep your energy levels up all night long. Cadillac Jack’s, while not technically new to Ellicottville, is opening in early January at a new location in the heart of the village at 24 Monroe St. Yes, you’ll still find your old favorites, like Hot-Lips mussels and a large selection of craft beers on tap, but you’ll also find some new favorites on its reenergized gourmet

HoliMont Set to Open Christmas Day New, Responsive Website Now Live

HoliMont members and their guests can have an even hollier, jollier Christmas this year because the resort will open for the season on Christmas Day. On Thursday, Dec. 25, HoliMont will once again welcome skiers and snowboarders of all ages, ready for the actionpacked, fun-filled season ahead. Armor Inn Ellicottville Now Open Partnering with Wingate and Ellicott Hospitality By Jennie Acklin

Mark Tufillaro, director of development, has been in charge of bringing the Armor Inn to Ellicottville, and is proud to see it ready to open. “We have overcome a lot of obstacles renovating this old building, and it’s exciting to now see the finished product,” said Tufillaro. He credits a great staff and many hardworking contractors for bringing to project to completion. “The building was in rough shape when we started working in here this summer. Police, Highway Depts. Top Town Board Agenda Mortgage Tax Revenues Higher than Budgeted By Jann Wiswall

Town of Ellicottville Supervisor John Burrell led off the Dec. 17 board meeting with the good news that mortgage tax revenues were $14,000-plus higher than the board budgeted for 2014, and, the total is more than was

forecasted for 2015. Fiscally speaking, this means the town is, potentially, starting 2015 ahead of the game. During the relatively brief meeting, the board got an update on the police department from Police Officer in Charge Don Auge. Board Member Rick

Jackson asked Auge if he has looked into body cameras for officers. Auge said he knows of some area departments that have looked into or purchased the devices, but there are no standard policies for their use. “Everyone is looking for See Town Board Agenda page 8

NFSC Hosts Gold Team December 19-22 Olympic-Style Ski Camp At HV

At Holiday Valley, ski racers are mentored and coached by a caring group of dedicated coaches, but a handful who make the elite Gold Team get a special chance to take it to the next level.

Miguel Azcarate, a former professional ski racer for Spain and Gold Team chairperson, provides this group of top Western New York athletes an Olympic-style ski camp with specialized training through the Niagara Frontier Ski Council (NFSC), which is

composed of Holiday Valley, HoliMont, Kissing Bridge, Peak n’ Peak, Buffalo Ski Club and Ski Denton. The program has seen great success by establishing standards and providing cooperative training opportunities for the area’s top level ski competitors at all See NFSC Gold Team page 3

New Fitness Center Coming to EVL Town Planning Bd. Discusses Construction Issues By Jann Wiswall

The former Marble Works property on Route 219 N has been purchased by husband and wife team Phillip Vogt and Dionne Kress, who plan to open a new fitness center, Groove Fitness, in the space. Preliminary drawings

for the facility include two small additions, a new front roof, exterior improvements, parking, dark-sky exterior lighting and more. The Town of Ellicottville’s Planning Board, which was supportive of the new use for the property, focused on infrastructure-

related issues that must be addressed. The board recommended some relatively minor changes to the parking lot configuration to accommodate more vehicles, reviewed the exterior lighting plan to ensure See New Fitness Center page 8

menu such as house-made duck confit, fresh halibut, chicken CJ and several new varieties of mussels. A larger selection of affordable wines will be offered in addition to wine and beer pairings. The restaurant’s soon-to-be revealed unique bar design will seat guests in a more intimate style. With the addition of a new patio, the second floor will feature indoor and outdoor dining. Another new eatery to hit Ellicottville this year is Slopeside Bar and BBQ. Targeted to open in the next few weeks, Slopeside is just across from the Sunrise chairlift and the slopes of Holiday Valley (in the old Cadillac Jack’s location), and is an easy walk for skiers and boarders to find all sorts of BBQ options with signature sauces, as well as a long list of yummy appetizers. Dina’s restaurant has just reopened to the delight of locals and visitors alike after a major expansion into the former gift shop next door. The beautifully redecorated new space at 15 West Washington St. can accommodate more large parties, as well as more bar and dining patrons. Dina’s, of course, is known for its fresh, healthful, creative menu selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. How about starting your day with a tomato/pesto/ cheddar-jack omelette, a pear gorgonzola salad or grilled salmon sandwich for lunch, and lobster ravioli or a filet mignon with crab cake for dinner? levels from U12s–U18s. The NFSC Gold Team is a reward, of sorts, for the racers’ outstanding race results from the prior ski season. To qualify, athletes from member ski areas must submit an essay to be considered for the Gold Team and each area’s coach must make a personal recommendation. Once these young skiers qualify for the elite Gold Team, they are invited to a preseason training camp taught by Azcarate, who is also the Training Center director at Holiday Valley. Azcarate has held the director position at HV for the past 17 years. From Dec. 19–22 at Holiday Valley, more than 40 teammates eat, sleep, work out and, of course, ski together. A professional strength training workout is part of the schedule, as well as video analysis of their racing runs of the day. The group also discusses proper nutrition during

breakfast, lunch and dinner. These young skiers attend ski camp regardless of weather or snow conditions — after all, they must train for all kinds of WNY weather conditions! Azcarate treats these athletes to lodging at the Inn at Holiday Valley, provides a custom uniform for the season and dinner each evening (and we’re not talking fast food or junk food). The money to fund this program comes from one primary fundraising event with sponsors Shults Auto Group of Jamestown, Rossignol Ski Company and Mud Sweat n’ Gears, Azcarate’s and his wife Kim Reading’s successful ski shop in Ellicottville. The raffle drawing is usually held during the Pond Skimming event in March at Holiday Valley. Launch Party at EBC WNY Craft Beer Magazine Kicks Off Winter Issue By Jennie Acklin

What is a launch party? Maybe it’s a good reason to get together with friends for a happy hour and hors d’oeuvres, and a good bit of music to ring in the holidays, too. WNY Craft Beer magazine of Buffalo, N.Y. is celebrating its third issue and held a Launch Party at Ellicottville Brewing Company on Dec. 13. The magazine featured local brewery EBC on the cover and with a spotlight article. WNY Craft Beer magazine was founded in 2014 with the mission of spreading the awareness of craft beer in WNY, celebrating local beer culture and promoting the vibrancy of this growing industry. Matt Kresconko, aka the Buffalo Brewhound, had this to say in his Issue 3 Letter from the Content Manager: “One of the places that loves to see an early snowfall is the village of Ellicottville and the ski resorts that surround it. Today I proudly present to you a staunch defense of men. Or more than likely “your man” since your special guy is probably outside at the moment looking for his hair after an unfortunate incident involving Christmas lights, a rain barrel and a six pack of beer. A new study published in the British Medical Journal has revealed what every woman in the world dating back to apple-eating Eve have always suspected — men are idiots and do stupid things. Conducted at England’s Newcastle University, the Male Idiot Theory is based on the behaviour of past and passed Darwin Award winners. These awards are given annually to people who die in such a moronic manner that “Their action ensures the long-term survival of the human species by selectively allowing one less idiot to survive.” The study presents a kind of selfcleansing of the gene pool scenario with a bonus of black humour. University personnel examined 318 cases of risky and bizarre deaths, of which 282 of the deceased were men. That’s 88.7 percent. If you’re keeping score, 88.7 percent also represents Joaquin Phoenix’s functioning IQ when he’s being interviewed by David Letterman. The authors of the study cited several glaring examples of maledominated insane behaviour, such as the construction worker who worked for two days demolishing a three-story car park without going near the support beams holding it up. Office workers watching from the adjacent buildings were engaged in animated discussions about how he planned to remove the core steel structure and bring the car park down safely. On the third day, they realized he did not have a plan. One good bump to a single support beam brought the entire structure crashing down, flattening his mini-excavator and killing him instantly.

In his defense, I would say he accomplished exactly what he set out to do and that the only thing lacking in his demolition plan was a quick exit strategy. And as usual, men dying publicly and stupidly are never given credit for “high entertainment value.” Plus what guy wouldn’t die to operate a tow motor and knock things down in front of a live audience? Cue Frank Sinatra: “Regrets. He had just one ... he did it his way.” Another example of deadly acts described in the study was the guy who settled an “Is not! Is too!” argument with a friend over a scifi “spy pen.” In order to prove it was indeed real, the owner of the pen shot himself in the head with it. Yes, he did die, but in doing so, he won the bet and the admiration of James Bond fans everywhere. The authors of the study also cited the Darwin award winner who designed a joy ride that unfortunately went off the rails. The man hitched a shopping cart up to the back of a freight train only to die three kilometers down the track where the engineer finally managed to bring it to a stop. Again, dead? Yes. Bizarre? Okay. But I say, what if it worked? What man wouldn’t want to see the world from an open-air grocery cart, his feet sticking through the child carrier with snacks and beer in the back?!? Seriously, they start putting air bags in traveling grocery carts and you can sign me up! The piéce de résistance of the Newcastle University study may well be the terrorist who attempted to deliver a bomb to his victim through regular mail. Unfortunately, he failed to put enough stamps on the package and when it was returned to him marked “Insufficient Postage,” he ... he ... he opened it. Dead? Yes. Sometimes rather than mock idiotic male behaviour, this sort of tragedy needs to be applauded and encouraged. As is often the case

with terrorists, their fatal flaw lies in never having seen even one episode of Wiley Coyote. To the Male Idiot Theory I say “No way Jose” mainly because a study of men behaving like half-lit twits is completely flawed without the mention of former baseball star Jose Canseco. Never mind all the bizarre incidents involving weapons, steroids, fertility drugs, the demolition derby with his wife and the possession of rocket fuel (rocket fuel???)— two months ago, Jose Canseco shot off the middle finger of his hand while cleaning his gun. This, of course, means that without a middle finger, Jose can never again drive in New York City. Opting not to have reconstructive surgery, Jose said he intended to sell the finger on eBay suggesting it could be used as a “stirring straw for drinks.” Jose also planned to sell the offending weapon - a .45 Remington gold-plated handgun that will come with the following instructions: “First unload gun. Then clean gun.” May this man never be allowed to operate a tow motor. “First, shut off ignition. Then replace fan belt.” No, this “Men Are Idiots” study will have no credibility whatsoever unless the authors name Jose Canseco as their “poster boy” and admit that the guy who died in the grocery cart was a freakin’ genius. Welcome everyone to the 2014-2015 season. We have been turning wheels at the Valley for several weeks now with some up and down weather. Due to some excellent work by our snow makers and groomers, though, we have enjoyed some very good snow conditions. Traffic has been light, but with the holidays looming, you can expect the slopes to bear a bit more downhill traffic. Skiing and riding, like many things in our lives, now subject us to somewhat crowded conditions. Traffic, movie lines, grocery stores and malls all tax our patience. Skiing and snowboarding often have their own challenge, too. On any holiday or weekend on the slopes, there can be upwards of 10,000 people at the resort, but with 13 lifts, 58 slopes and 1,100 acres, it may not seem that busy. Needless to say, you certainly are sharing lift lines and slopes with other skiers and riders, all of whom are all here to enjoy their time with friends and family. We all know that none of these people move at the same

speed or take the same track down the slope — everyone has their own way to enjoy the slopes. Here are a few simple things to keep in mind to ensure you and others enjoy a safer and better time on the slopes 1. Always stay in control. You must be able to other people or objects. 2. People ahead of you have the right of way. It is your responsibility to avoid them. 3. Do not stop where you obstruct a trail or are not visible from above. 4. Before starting downhill or merging onto a trail look up and yield to others. 5. If you are involved in or witness a collision or accident, you must remain at the scene and identify yourself to the Ski Patrol.

6. Always use proper devices to help prevent runaway equipment. 7. Observe and obey all posted signs and warnings. 8. Keep off closed trails and areas. 9. You must have sufficient knowledge to ride a lift. If in doubt, ask the lift attendant. 10. Do not drink to excess while skiing or snowboarding. All of these are simply common sense and common courtesies to extend to each other. Clipping someone’s skis because you are too close to them, blasting through slower groups or lessons, launching yourself from the trees or an adjoining trail in front of downhill traffic is dangerous to others as well as yourself. Share the pleasure of the natural beauty we all share by being a good citizen and conscientious downhill traveler. Don’t forget that the best way to improve your skills and learn new techniques and tactics is to take a coaching session from our PSIA/AASI Certified School. Learn… Turn… Smile… Repeat.

guidance about when and how they should be used,” he said, noting that there are legal issues as well as budget considerations. Auge said he would continue to research the subject. The board discussed with Auge the possibility of hiring another full-time officer with a goal of providing 24/7 coverage of the town and village. Currently, four full-time and two part-time officers provide coverage for all but a few hours each day. Those hours are covered by state police and the county sheriff’s office, but because those officers cover the entire county, they are not always available. The board suggested that Auge prepare a budget projection for what it would take to provide round-the-clock coverage with an additional full-time officer and less parttime help. Loyd Hovey, acting highway superintendent, said that the department is adjusting since the death of Superintendent Dave Golley on Dec. 2. At a special meeting on Dec. 3, the board approved a request to advertise for a full-time and a seasonal position to staff up the department. Burrell and Hovey will review applications in the next week or two. At that December meeting, the board authorized the town to advertise for bids for a new front-end loader. Bids were reviewed at Wednesday’s meeting and awarded to the low bidder, George & Swede. Over the past two weeks, the board and Town Attorney Kathleen Moriarty have been looking into what the town’s options are with regard to short-term replacement of the superintendent position. In the short-term, Burrell explained that the board must appoint someone to fill Golley’s elected seat until his term ends on Dec. 31, 2015. Burrell asked Hovey, who

had indicated to the board that he might want to retire in May, if he would be available and willing to stay on in the position through December. Hovey said he would be available. Burrell also reported that the department’s union representative wants to meet with Burrell to discuss a new contract with highway employees. Burrell asked Hovey to talk with staff about their concerns before scheduling that meeting. Over the next several months, a board committee headed by Ken Hinman and Greg Fitzpatrick will look at how to reorganize the department once the superintendent position becomes an appointed one, per a new law passed by voters in November. Engineer’s Report Town Engineer Mark Alianello reported that the East Tank project is “functionally complete,” and asked the board to approve several resolutions to finalize payments to contractors and to reserve funds to finish some work that had to be delayed until the weather breaks in the spring. Those resolutions were passed. Alianello also asked the board to approve a resolution authorizing Burrell to sign contracts with firms providing telemetry equipment and installation. Progress on finalizing paperwork between municipalities to provide water and sewer service at HoliMont’s WestMont Ridge development continues. Alianello said that most items on the punch list have been completed; funds to take care of some final tasks have been placed in escrow until the work can be done in the spring. Alianello also sought the board’s opinion on an issue that came up at the Town Planning Board meeting on Dec. 16. New owners of the former Marble Works property

on Route 219 N propose to renovate the building and open a fitness center and propose to hook into the town’s sewer system by installing a pumping station. The closest sewer main is 450 feet from the business (see story, cover). During the planning board discussion, Alianello said the other option would be to extend the main closer to the new business, which could be an expensive proposition to the town, the developer, or both. At the town board meeting, however, Alianello said that he believes the pumping station solution is reasonable and affordable for the developer. He also suggested that the town consider extending the main to the northern edge of the town’s sewer district along Route 219 in the future, if additional development along the route is likely. The board agreed to consider the project. Finally, Alianello said he had been contacted by the HoliHuts homeowners association (HOA) about tying the community into the town’s water system at homeowners’ cost. The community has had persistent problems with the cluster wells that currently supply water. Alianello and Burrell will meet with the HOA at its next meeting in early January. Ken Hinman, who serves as president of the Ellicottville/ Great Valley Recreational Trail Committee, reported that local radio station 105.9 is producing public service announcements asking for support for the trail’s fundraising efforts. The station also is considering promoting and hosting a Mardi Gras-timed fundraiser. The town board will hold its 2015 reorganizational meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 6 p.m. Its next regular board meeting will be held on Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Village/Town Hall.

it conforms to the town’s darksky initiative and asked Vogt to prepare a landscaping plan. Vogt said he plans to abandon the well on the property and tie into the town’s water system. Town Engineer Mark Alianello pointed out that the State Department of Environmental Conservation requires abandoned wells to be filled with stone and capped. Meanwhile, the town’s water line installation under Route 219 from the west is awaiting Department of Transportation approval, but otherwise the plan presents no problems. The sewer issue is more complicated, however. The

main municipal sewer line stops about 450 feet south of the gym facility. Alianello said that one option would be to extend the main to the gym, which would require a significant investment from the town and, possibly, the developer. Other solutions proposed by Vogt and various planning board members — including installing a pumping station that would have to carry sewage under a creek — all had their own pros and cons. Alianello, who was most concerned about setting precedents, said he would bring up the issue with the town’s board at its meeting on

Wednesday, Dec. 17 and would communicate the board’s responses accordingly (see Town Board story, cover). Kress, who will run the facility, said she is still in the midst of doing market research, so is not yet prepared to detail specific plans for classes and equipment offerings. She said she hopes to have these details worked out over the next few months. Tentatively, she and Vogt hope to open in the spring. The board set a public hearing on the gym for its next meeting on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. in the Village/Town Hall.

Our terrain parks are fun for people of all ages — just make sure you wear a helmet … they are required for the parks.” Aside from everything members and guests have come to love about HoliMont over the years, the off-season has brought many exciting changes. • The roadways for HoliMont’s new condominium complex, WestMont Ridge, are now complete. Additionally, the slope that will eventually be HoliMont’s new terrain park was cut over the summer so that natural gas lines could be installed. • The Cascade lift got a facelift and now has a look similar to the Exhibition Express. By updating one lift per year in the off-season, the goal is that eventually, all lifts will have this same look. • The Foxwood warming hut at the top of Cascade/Greer was a huge hit last winter. Over the summer, the Buildings and Grounds Crew added a deck to

the warming hut, which will be a great place to take a break between runs. • During the summer of 2013, the HoliMont Buildings and Grounds Crew did a complete remodel of the main men’s and women’s bathrooms in the chalet. This past summer, the four remaining bathrooms in the chalet were remodeled as well. • The Mountain Crew spent part of the summer digging up and replacing various air and water lines throughout the area, which will make for even better snowmaking this coming season. These improvements give you even more reasons to visit in the upcoming season. HoliMont is open to members only on weekends. PlacesMobile, Inc. is in the business of putting towns and businesses on the map — a virtual map, that is — and this past Monday they visited Ellicottville to capture its winter charm for millions of Googles users. Drew Hilker, co-owner of PlacesMobile Inc. and a Google Trusted Photographer, was in town this past Monday for the five-hour photo shoot to capture views of Ellicottville for Google Street View. As a result, in a few weeks, you’ll be able to use Google Maps, a popular online mapping site that provides street maps, satellite images, Street View panoramas, travel routes and virtual interior tours, to check out a few of Ellicottville’s businesses and restaurants, inside and out. Jim Hilker, Drew’s father and co-owner of PlacesMobile, said, “Since we are part of the Google Team, we have direct access into the (Google) Street View software. We put everything together. We produce all the 360s with the images, and once we get it all published, then it goes through quality review at Google headquarters. Once that’s passed, it takes about two weeks from the time of the photography work to when (the images) are live in Google Maps.” The company then uses Google’s server and software to “stitch” the images together to create these virtual tours. PlacesMobile, a familyowned company from Ithaca, N.Y., has created more

than 1,200 virtual tours and virtual visitor guides across the Northeast and across the country. They have been on Google’s Trusted Photographers list since 2012, when the program went live. “We create a full, comprehensive, interactive Google map that lists all the destination business on it. It’s an amazing program, because it’s all mobile driven, and we provide NFC (near field communication) stickers that go all over the place. So any visitors in the area, they just tap their smartphone to the NFC sticker and it opens up the visitor guide map right in their hand,” explained Jim. “They can find out where everything is, how to walk to it, how to drive to it, find out what the daily deals are, what the specials are with complete menus, watch virtual tours — it’s pretty high-tech stuff.” This company has already created virtual 360-degree tours for Holiday Valley and Ellicottville Brewing Company. Now, The Barn, the Gin Mill, Watson’s Chocolates, Tangled Twigs and Dekdebrun Ski Shop will join Ellicottville’s

list of virtual tours “Every business had its own unique style,” said Drew. “That’s what I love about going to these small towns. Each place has its own personality, which makes them stand out.” Although Drew chose not to capture any views of Ellicottville’s streets, because all the pretty white snow had already melted, he did take some high elevation 360s.” Jim said, “They came out really nice. You can see the whole town with the ski slopes in the background.” Jim said he plans to come back to work with more businesses soon. “From what I was hearing, we were just a little bit too early for the season to really kick in. We’re thinking a February return might be a better time for business,” he said. Google gives PlacesMobile the right to use their logo and provide direct access to their software, but does not compensate the company for their photography. “If we get enough additional interest, we’ll come back sooner, because we are completely funded by businesses that participate,” said Hilker. “We try to make sure that we’re affordable and reasonable. Seneca was on location this past week for the final touches, including a visit from artist Carson Waterman for some last-minute consultation for hanging his artwork. Several of Waterman’s fine art prints hang throughout the restaurant, paying homage to the restaurant’s Native American roots. “I really want the restaurant to succeed — that’s exciting to me,” said executive chef Tony Skowronski. “It has been a challenge bringing the kitchen from the ground up, but it’s all worth getting to oversee a brand new kitchen facility.” Skowronski has added many new menu items and has put his personal touch on many old favorites. “For example, our pizza log appetizer will be served with a roasted red pepper and bacon coolie instead of the standard marinara,” said Skowronski. “I’ve also added a French-cut pork chop with a blueberry compote, and pan-seared duck with a strawberry glaze.” Tonya Brown Earhardt was part of his handpicked staff, and will be joining him as his second-hand assistant. “I’ve been working in the hospitality industry for 25 years locally,” said Jacobson, who will be handling all banquets and events, along with off-site catering and the new room service at the Wingate Hotel. “Bringing room service to The

Health & Fitness: Exercise of the Week: Squats

If you’re looking for a powerful way to boost your overall fitness and get some serious results — fast — from your workout routine, look no further than performing squatting exercises. This is one exercise that should be a part of virtually everyone’s routine, as it’s relatively simple to perform, requires no equipment and can be done just about anywhere. More importantly, although squats are often regarded as “leg” exercises, they actually offer benefits throughout your entire body, including deep within your core. Squats have long been criticized for being destructive to your knees, but research shows that when done properly, squats actually improve knee stability and strengthen connective tissue. 1. Warm up. 2. Stand with your feet just

over shoulder-width apart. 3. Keep your back in a neutral position and keep your knees centered over your feet. 4. Slowly bend your knees, hips and ankles, lowering until you reach a 90-degree angle. 5. Return to starting position. Repeat 15-20 times, for 2-3 sets for beginners. Do this two or three times a week. Breathe in as you lower. Breathe out as you return to starting position. Squats obviously help to build your leg muscles (including your quadriceps, hamstrings and calves), but they also create an anabolic environment, which promotes body-wide muscle building. In fact, when done properly, squats are so intense that they trigger the release of testosterone and human growth hormone in your body, which are vital for muscle growth and will also help to improve muscle mass when you train other areas of your body aside from your legs. So, squats can actually help you improve both your upper and lower body strength. Strong legs are crucial for staying mobile as you get older, and squats are phenomenal for increasing leg strength. They also work out your core, stabilizing muscles, which will help you to maintain balance,

while also improving the communication between your brain and your muscle groups, which helps prevent falls — which is incidentally the No. 1 way to prevent bone fractures. And finally, few exercises work as many muscles as the squat, so it’s an excellent multi-purpose activity useful for toning and tightening your behind, abs and, of course, your legs. Furthermore, squats build your muscles, and these muscles participate in the regulation of glucose and lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity, helping to protect you against obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease. FOOD TIP OF THE WEEK Working out can cause an increase in appetite. Here are a few hunger squashing snack ideas: 1. Spread the inside of a pita half with a thick layer of hummus and top with sliced tomato, lettuce and a few squirts of hot sauce. 2. Combine a can of tuna with your favorite salsa. Use Triscuits for scooping. 3. Lay a slice of Swiss cheese on a cutting board. Top with a slice of deli turkey and a spoonful of hummus or guacamole. Wrap like a jellyroll and eat.

Justin Tyler Kohn, 18, Allegany Justin Tyler Kohn, of 8 St. Joe’s Drive, Allegany, N.Y, passed away Dec. 12, 2014. Born May 27, 1996, in Buffalo, he was a son of Jamie and Kim Ernewein Kohn. Justin was currently a senior at Allegany-Limestone Central School, where he was also a member of the Ski Club. Justin had been employed at Tops Market in Olean for the past year and a half. He lived a life of giving to others and placed his family and friends’ needs above his own. New adventures gave him great joy.
