Editor’s note: This article is the first of several planned by the Catherine Schuyler Chapter, National Society Daughters of The American Revolution, to mark the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, which is coming up in 2026.
The Catherine Schuyler Chapter, National Society Daughters of The American Revolution (DAR), will be celebrating the 250th year of our nation’s founding all through 2026. The Daughters of the
American Revolution was formed in 1890 in response to the Sons of the American Revolution not permitting women to join. DAR is one of, if not, the largest women’s service organizations in the country today. DAR is historic preservation, education and patriotism. DAR is friendship, family and service. Our Motto is “GOD, HOME and COUNTRY.” This article is about our recently published work, “Our Revolution-
ary Cookbook,” which celebrates our history and heritage. The funds received from our unique book will help to defray the cost of a monument to be erected in Angelica for the 250th anniversary of our great nation. What makes this cookbook Revolutionary? We wanted something different so we compiled this historical book with not just more than 100 recipes, from that era, but also historiCookbook continued on PAGE 4

ACCORD steps up efforts for SNAP households in Allegany County Among children, the rate is even higher — 17.8%, or nearly one in five. As SNAP recipients face uncertainty about the program this month due to the continuing government shutdown, ACCORD is calling for help to support families facing food insecurity. ACCORD reported that more than 5,200 individuals rely on SNAP benefits as the county’s overall food insecurity rate is 11.9% — meaning roughly one in nine individuals struggles to afford enough to eat.
