Tuscan Moon Fundraiser A gourmet dinner party is planned for Saturday evening at John Harvard’s Cabana Bar at Holiday Valley, starting at 6 p.m. When you take a peek at the Italian-themed menu, you’ll find 14 local restaurants serving their specialties – Tuscan Seafood Boil, Chicken Marsalla, Frutti De Mar (Scallops, Shrimp & Mussels), Veal Cannelloni, Momma’s Lasagna, and hand-carved beef tenderloin, just to mention a few. And the infamous dessert table of Tom Kneeland and Watson’s Chocolates cake, cookie and tart creations, can make a meal in and of itself. Upcoming Events Weekend Chairlift Rides to Spruce Lake, Holiday Valley

Twenty-two ECS students have volunteered to be servers at the event, and will be trained by the staff of John Harvard’s. And you can’t miss the auctions – there in an extensive silent auction, and a short “live” auction. Bid on Buffalo Sabres tickets, Buffalo Bills tickets, Cutco knives, a kayak, and so much more. The baskets are donated by individuals, out of town guests, and some are created and donated by the Rotary Club. The reason for putting together such a fabulous evening goes far beyond good food, smooth music, and auction items. This is the primary fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Ellicottville —

$3.3 Million in Upgrades at Holiday Valley

Holiday Valley, New York State’s most visited ski resort and a magnet for Canadians from Southern Ontario, recently announced that it is adding to its automated snowmaking system, purchasing two groomers, expanding the beginner’s area and conducting a host of other projects. Guests of Holiday Valley will reap the benefits of more efficient and increased snowmaking, allowing for added time and enjoyment on the slopes this season. This year’s $3.3 million brings the total investment for this

The Aug. 23 Ellicottville Town Board Meeting opened with two very interesting presentations, the first from Laura Flanagan, Director and Librarian at the Ellicottville Memorial Library. The library has become about so much more than borrowing books and DVDs. There were over 400 different classes offered

Lacrosse Fest and Cell Phone Policy Top ECS Board Agenda

The upcoming Ellicottville Lacrosse Festival, and changes to the student cell phone policy were hot topics of conversation during last Tuesday’s board meeting at Ellicottville Central Schools. The upcoming Ellicottville Lacrosse Festival, which is taking place in the village Sept. 22-24, is anticipated to bring up to 5,000 people to the area for matches which will take place on the Ellicottville football and soccer fields. With the potential large crowds gathering on school grounds, the Board posed questions regarding bathroom facilities for all visitors and concerns about interference with the school’s homecoming dance, which is held at the school during the same weekend. “We will have maintenance here. Of the Taste events I have seen this summer in Western NY we are the only one that limits the participants to local only, plus of course our long time sponsor and partner, the Seneca Allegany Casino & Resort”, stated Brian McFadden, Executive Director of the Chamber. “We are fortunate to have so many great establishments. Our panel of four judges, Nalina Shapiro of WIVB Channel 4, Jonah Javad of WGRZ Channel 2, Bentley from 103.3 The Edge, and Greg from Kiss 98.5, tasted dishes from 19 of our area’s best and came to final judgements on our four awards.

“The Taste of Ellicottville gives visitors a diverse selection of gluten free as well as rich original flavors like a sweet corn crème brûlée from Cadillac Jack’s, to hearty lobster quesadillas from Dina’s and a unique risotto stick from Villaggio,” Nalina Shapiro said. “It’s tough to pick a winner so I would suggest making a few trips and trying a new place each time depending on your daily craving.” The Best of Ellicottville went to Cadillac Jack’s. Best Entrée went to Madigan’s for their Pretzel Chicken with Homemade Honey Mustard. Sweetest Sweet went to Dina’s Crème Brûlée. Bike and Bean took home the Healthy Choice award for their Sweet Potato Taco. The People’s Choice award process was changed this year. Instead of a paper ballot deposited in a central location, a golf tee accompanied each ticket purchase to be placed in a cup at their favorite restaurant. The restaurant with the most tees would be selected as the People’s Choice. This year’s winner, according to our visitors, was Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino.

Chef Dean and his team from the Seneca Allegany Resort and Casino also worked hard to make sure the weekend was a success. Not only was Chef Dean the emcee of the cooking competition but he also cooked up a great dish made from locally sourced products during the cooking demonstration. He was also instrumental in making sure the stage, the cooking competition ingredients, and the sound system were in place, to include a couple of sound and stage engineers from the casino. Chef Dave from Finnerty’s Tap Room won the first ever Ellicottville Chopped competition. Chef Jeff from the Seneca Allegany Casino and Resort and GM Spencer from Villaggio were neck and neck for second. Congratulations to all for a fun and entertaining show.

Pumpkinville George-themed activities throughout their six-week season from Sept.16 - October 31. Curious George merchandise will also be available in the gift shop. The Curious George character first appeared in book form in the early 1940s when the monkey is found in Africa by a “man in a yellow hat” who brings him to “the big city” to live with him. Adventures follow. The stories have been made for television and movies. The latest Curious George movie is in preproduction with Andrew Adamson directing and writing. Adamson is best known for directing Shrek and the first two Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe movies. Pumpkinville is a 200-acre, working, pumpkin farm in Great Valley that features dozens of attractions for kids of all ages including an authentic 1870s working cider mill. Pumpkinville may be best known for its variety of food including its famous pumpkin donuts. two new connector trails, renovations at the Inn at Holiday Valley, new uniforms for the Mountain Operations department, a new Resort Shuttle Van, new golf carts and new fountains in the golf course ponds. Snowmaking is the life blood of ski resorts throughout the country, and Holiday Valley has invested heavily in continuing to grow their state-of-the-art automated system. The resort now has the largest and most powerful HKD snowmaking system on the East Coast. This year’s purchase of 70 HKD Auto units and 10 HKD Viper ground guns gives the resort a total of 314 automated guns, which allow the talented snowmaking crew to make more snow in a shorter period of time using less energy. The new snowmaking guns will be placed on up to six trails. Pipeline additions and upgrades will also take place as a part of this year’s investment. The two new Pisten Bully 600

Grooming Tractors will replace two older units, resulting in a cleaner and more energy efficient fleet of six groomers. These highly specialized machines are used almost every night of the winter season to resurface the slopes for the following day. The beginner’s slope, Slippery Streets, will be expanded to accommodate the resort’s Shaped Snow Learning Terrain. This slope is specially groomed to make the learning process more intuitive and enjoyable for students of all ages. The two new trails constructed for this season are both rated “Easier” and are located off lower Northwind slope. Shamrock will bypass the steep section of lower Northwind to give beginners and families easier access to the base of the Mardi Gras lift. The Boomerang trail will allow for easy access to the Morning Star Quad chair from lower Northwind. Plans are to outfit both of these slopes with lights
and snowmaking. The Cindy’s Warming Hut has quite a history at Holiday Valley, as it was the original 1960 bottom terminal building of the Tannenbaum T-Bar and moved to its current site more than 30 years ago. It will be replaced by a cozy chalet for the upcoming season, featuring a fire place and large windows for a broad lookout over Cindy’s Run. The Mistletoe Lean To has also been a part of Holiday Valley’s history, and the new Lean To will be very similar in size and shape, but will be set back a bit more into the tall iconic pines of the Mistletoe slope. The slopeside Inn at Holiday Valley will be purchasing new furniture and vanity countertops in a continuous plan to keep the lodging facility current. The new Double Black Diamond golf course fountains were installed earlier this summer and the new golf carts are already seeing regular usage.

This summer, Core Performance has had unprecedented success with its Boot Camp Program. Not only did we run one successful morning Boot Camp, but we ran two, a 6 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. class, simultaneous, for the entire summer. However, as seasons change, so do schedules and fitness can take a back seat. So, how do you maintain your commitment to fitness? Here’s a simple truth you already know: No amount of motivational posters will help you if you are not in the right place in your head, if you push yourself too hard, never let off steam and fail to manage your expectations. This begs the question, how do you get to that right place inside your head? Well, here are a few tips: Give it time. It’s not that we cannot stick to exercise for a long period of time because we’re weak; it’s because we try to do it
overnight and on top of that, we expect immediate results that don’t happen, and that make us give up. Commitment to fitness is not something we can just turn on like pulling a switch in our heads; it’s always a gradual process. You start small and you build up from there, one effort at a time, one day at time. You have to slowly re-educate yourself and get used to the idea of exercise, incorporate it in your daily life in small ways first, and only then will you be able to commit to it more seriously long-term. Reward yourself. It’s important that you reward yourself from time to time and have something to look forward to after all of the hard work you are doing. Cheat days exist for that exact reason— to help you stay committed. It is important that you also set a date or pick a day of the week for that. It gives you a goal to aim for: “All I need to do is last until Friday and then I can have some chocolate cake.” This way you don’t just get to keep with your regime, but you’ll also find that eating a slice of chocolate cake suddenly became a lot more satisfying. Be patient. There are no shortcuts in fitness. It all takes work, but most of all it takes patience, enough to stay on track and enough to not give into fads and crazy diets. Any fast results are temporary results and those are never worth the
struggle. Instead, set yourself up for a long run in this, set targets you can actually meet without killing or starving yourself and pick a healthy lifestyle you can actually maintain. Integrate it into your lifestyle. The easiest way to stay committed to fitness, stay healthy and fit without constantly getting off track, is to integrate it into your daily life and make it something you do by default like brushing your teeth in the morning. After all, it’s just as much of an investment in your health. Doing something small like working through a list of exercises, but daily, will beat going to the gym twice a week and spending hours and hours there. Visualize yourself fit. Fitness is all in your head. Yes, it takes hard work and dedication to get in shape and then stay that way, but most of it, really, is in seeing yourself as someone who is capable of that, someone who is able to get and be fit. Unless you begin to see yourself in the role and begin to develop a feeling for it, there’s a risk it will always remain just a little out of your reach. will have a new booster in place so that WiFi will reach the parking lot. There was so much more to the presentation, but I urge you to stop in and check it out for yourself. The second presentation was from Richard Zink of Southern Tier West, Regional Planning and Development Board regarding the Broadband Phase III. Zink shared where the NYS Broadband Effort was currently at and his concerns with Phase III of the project. Right now, the state is accepting applications for work to be done up until Aug. 31. What concerns Zink is the few areas of Ellicottville that may not get bid on for Phase III. He feels they may try to blanket it and offer satellite as an alternative, which we all know is not good enough for today’s needs. Zink urges the town to be as flexible as possible with permit and process fees to be more attractive to the bidding companies. Zink also urges the underserved areas to start calling Spectrum and ask when they will get internet. He also advised if anyone has questions on what they can do to ensure broadband to all of Ellicottville to give him a call at Southern Tier West. The board thanked both Flanagan and Zink for their presentations and continued with the meeting. The board made a motion to accept the July 2017 Financial Report; there was a second and it was passed. At the Four Flushers meeting, the inventory of all town mechanics was discussed. The Water and Sewer Inventory is almost complete, finishing up on man-holes, hydrants and valves. This inventory also is considering the age, size and condition of all the equipment so that a master plan for updating can be most effectively put into place. Right now, much of the town piping was built before 1997. The next step will be mapping the report so that it is ready to be entered into a GIS mapping system. The Village is moving forward with their Sludge Removal Project. Jessie and Jigger received training, took the test and passed. The
village now feels they have enough experience to obtain the certification. Resumes are coming in for the joint Town and Village Public Works Position and will be accepted until Aug. 25. The following week, the review process will begin and interviews will commence shortly after. The project on the new Evidence and Locker Room is currently on hold because they are waiting on electric. Booster Station No. 1 had its start up last week. It went well with a few small glitches. One, for example, was a communication problem. The communications are run off radio signals and it just took a re-route of the signal to fix the problem. The culvert inventory has been completed. This inventory considered the condition of the pipe, if it was undersized, the importance of the road and traffic volumes. This is another great tool to be used in the master plan for the Town and will also be entered into the GIS mapping system. Don Auge thanked the community effort in the fire response at Kwik Fill. He said it was great to see the community come together and businesses as far as Dom’s Butcher Block were running fire extinguishers over to the scene. The Sommerville Valley Rock Stabilization Bid was awarded to Bill Bognar of Little Valley. There was a total of four bids. The council made a motion to accept Bognar’s bid; there was a second and it passed. Also, the Town has oil and chipped two times more roads this summer and is even starting on roads that were planned to be done in 2018. A letter was drafted to the county considering the
surveying of the Valley Village community to address the transfer of ownership and maintenance of the road. Regarding the $50,000 grant that the town has been awarded, they must now pick the project which fits the criteria NYS has put forth. The new Town Hall HVAC system seems to be up and running smooth. The Council made a motion to approve up to $5,000 to be spent on an energy audit of the town buildings. This will aid the town in the future. The Council made a motion to accept Tom Abriatis’s resignation for Aug. 31, 2017. There was a second and the council passed the motion. There were several comments from the council on what an excellent job Tom has done over the years. In old business, the Ellicottville Great Valley Trail is moving forward. The wet lands scientist has put in an application to the Army Corps of Engineers. The Army Corps of Engineers now want the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) to sign off on the project and SHPO is requiring a Phase I Architectural Study. The board is hoping the county will survey for the easements. Despite these small obstacles, the project is still moving forward. There is a new Town Hall Open Door Policy. The building will be open every day from 7:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. except for Fall Festival, Mardi Gras and Rock and Roll weekends. The Town Board received a letter from the Relay for Life thanking them for their donation. The next meeting of the Town Board will be Sept. 20 at 6 p.m.

Changes to the student cell phone policy, a hot topic for all school board members and administrators, include the addition of fourth offense guidelines, as well as explicit language explaining serious disciplinary actions if students are caught taking pictures or videos of other students and posting or sharing them. Miller explained that enforcing rules with student cell phones is becoming increasingly hard, as sometimes they can be used in classrooms as instructional aides. “It’s tough, because you know parents are contacting their kids during the day,” Miller said. “Parents are fighting the same battles at home,” said Middle School and High School Principal Erich Ploetz. “When the school backs it up, it can help.” The Board also discussed planning a potential board retreat in which the new school board members could focus on goals and preparation as laid out in their strategic planning document. “We would need to talk at length about anything we would like to cover,” said Miller, who also proposed the idea of hiring an independent facilitator to coordinate the meeting. “A facilitator would allow us to be a team and then one of us doesn’t have to run a retreat.” The board discussed a potential October retreat, after scheduling of other school events had taken place. Miller also mentioned that room renovations are currently on schedule. The renovations, which will add on three classrooms in the lower level of the high school, will be leased to CA BOCES for the expansion of their Big Picture Program. The security camera installation is also on schedule, though it may take place when students are back to school. According to Miller, the equipment is ready to be installed, but UNS is waiting on an electrician to complete the work. The new system will include the installation of monitors at the entrances in order for personnel to more safely monitor school visitors. In other business, Ploetz expressed his gratitude for an easy transition to the new position. “Having started in a few school districts, I can tell you that my first few weeks here couldn’t have gone any better for me in terms of being supported by my colleagues and students,” said Ploetz. “I feel as if I’ve been working with Connie (Poulin) and Bob for years. It’s a credit to them.” Elementary Principal Connie Poulin reported that elementary staff have been given data reports on state ELA and Math assessments. “They have been given all the data reports on how our students have done and they are able to compare to the region and they are also able to compare by classroom,” Poulin said. “They can talk about how they approached instruction. It’s good team building; it’s good conversation and the teachers do a good job rolling up their sleeves.” Poulin also reported that the recent sixth grade orientation reached a record turn out. “We had the largest turn out ever for sixth grade orientation,” Poulin said. “I think it’s something that we’ve grown into to help

Lakeside Rides and Nostalgia at Midway State Park

There’s no better way to savor the final days of summer than visiting Midway State Park, one of the oldest continually operating amusement parks in the country, located on beautiful Chautauqua Lake. Since 1898, Midway State Park has been a family destination for all kinds of fun, from thrilling rides to arcade games to swimming. Located at 4859 Route 430 in Bemus Point, Midway State Park is open daily now through Labor Day, and it’s certainly worth the drive. Midway State Park was established by the Jamestown & Lake Erie Railway as a trolley park, where passengers could relax and picnic with their families. In 1898, a roundtrip ticket from Jamestown or Mayville to Midway was just twenty-five cents, and visitors could enjoy bathing, boating, tennis, croquet, baseball, dancing and more! Now, Midway is one of only five trolley parks left in the country, and is the sixteenth oldest continually operating amusement park in the United States. In the 1920s, the park reached the peak of its popularity, and was a destination for visitors from all over the area. In addition to swimming and bathing in the lake, Midway offered roller skating, a dance hall, games, and a carousel. The concession stand, which was built in 1915, still stands and serves its original purpose; this and several other buildings are included in the National Register of Historic Places, including the Lakeside Pavilion
(1915), arcade (1930), carousel (1948), ice house (1900) and three pavilions (1900-1920). In the 1950s, the Walsh family purchased the park, and Midway continued to thrive through the 20th century. The Walsh family’s relationship with the Allan Herschell Company in North Tonawanda resulted in the addition of a complete Herschell kiddyland of rides, and later “Dodgem” cars, a “Tilt-A-Whirl,” and a new carousel were installed. Today, the amusement rides, which remain a focal point of the park, include several of these original rides, as well as a dragon roller coaster, a large slide, bumper boats, go-karts, and more! Since the park opened in 1898, several notable individuals have visited, including Franklin D. Roosevelt, Lucille Ball, and Jack Paar, former host of NBC’s The Tonight Show. At the close of the 2006 season, the park was transferred into the New York State Parks system, and it continues to offer a variety of amusement rides, arcade games, concessions, a museum, a gift shop and
several picnic facilities. The park is fondly remembered by many couples as the place where true love blossomed! In 2011, the Friends of Midway hosted a Midway Couples Reunion at the park, where couples in attendance shared their stories about meeting, dating, and roller skating at Midway Park in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Since 2010, Friends of Midway, a nonprofit organization, has been dedicated to preserving and promoting the park, and is responsible for the completion of several projects. During their first six years, Friends of Midway undertook the installation of the new Putta-Round mini golf course, the restoration of the miniature train, the restoration of the 1957 pony tractor vintage ride, and the full restoration of the 1946 Herschell Carousel roundhouse shelter and its horses. The park is open from noon to 7 p.m. daily, but amusement rides and the arcade are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Play a round of miniature golf during the day or after hours: 7 to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 7 to 10 p.m. on weekends. Visitors can purchase tickets or wristbands to enjoy the rides; prices vary based on amount and age of visitor. in the Hamburg Central School district and performs at many venues such as local coffeehouses and the Explore and More Children’s Play Museum. This will be her fifth appearance in Allegany’s Artist in Residence program. She is very excited to return to the park this year, and to perform her award-winning song, “Allegany in My Heart” along with other folk songs and acoustic covers. Katy will be performing with longtime friend and guitarist Tom Schaner. Tom also performs in coffeehouses and is a former member of the band, ‘The Keepers’. ASP’s Artists in Residence program unofficially began in the early 1980s. Dan Duggan is considered by many to be the “father” of the Artist in Residence program, and in a 2016 interview by the Ellicottville Times, he explained how it got started: “I don’t know the exact year, but I believe it was around 1980-81, Mike Kelley was the park commissioner. Our good friend Tom Stocky, a wonderful banjo and guitar player, had a job as the Chautauqua County troubadour, and was hired to go to the park for a two week period to do a few concerts and campfire programs. At the time, Tom was sick with leukemia, so my friend John Kirk and I went to the park with Tom and helped him with concerts. “The first year, we did concerts mainly on the Red

House side of the park, and the Pitt cabin was where we all stayed. That year, Tom passed away and the next year, John and I came to the park for several weeks.” Originally, Duggan said, “we did a campfire at one of the cabin trails each night and the week would culminate with a concert inside the Administration building. We would go to a given trail late in the afternoon and go doorto-door handing out flyers about that evening’s program at their trail. We actually spent an entire summer one year doing the program. We also did country dances on the lawn of the Administration building on Tuesday nights and campfire sings during the week with a Friday night concert at the Administration building.” Duggan went on to note that, “As the program progressed, other artists were brought in and I would spend two weeks at the park, usually at the end of August each summer. The program continued to grow in popularity and eventually the Quaker side of the park was included with a program at the Amphitheater. The original concept was a much more intimate gathering designed
specifically for a given trail each night with a big concert at the end of the week. In fact, we also did programs at Long Point State Park, which is on Chautauqua Lake, as part of the Residency.” Duggan recalled that in those early years, the Pitt cabin also was where the naturalists would work and that the crew would go there each week to create the schedule. While the program has grown and changed over the years, the basic integrity of the program has remained intact and these days, it runs every week during peak season, with concerts at various park locations, including the Quaker Amphitheater, Red House Beach House and Red House Administration Building lawn. This summer’s artists in residence have included Darrell Porter, Will Lowry, Jess Chizuk, Davis & Eng Band, Keith James, Ken Hardley, Sean Patrick McGraw and Katy Webster, who will perform the last concert of the season on Aug. 25. Wrap Up Summer at Holiday Valley
It’s time to squeeze out the last of summer! Whether you prefer high-flying adventure, relaxing poolside, or a round of golf, you can find it at Holiday Valley. This weekend is the perfect time to enjoy some fun in the sun at HV’s pool complex. Take your pick from the kiddie pool, the lap pool or the activity pool with slide and diving board. Take a game break and challenge your friends to one of the many deck games, or grab a drink at the Cabana Bar. Need another reason to visit? How about lots of awesome planned activities? On Friday, Aug. 25, enjoy water balloon games at 5 p.m. games. At 6 p.m., see how you stack up in the Jenga Tournament. On Saturday, Aug, 26, Frozen T-shirt breakout begins at 2 p.m. (this involves a t-shirt frozen into a block that must turn into something wearable!). The infamous Ducky Derby begins at 3 p.m. Purchase a duck, cheer for it loudly as it races down the slide and makes its way to the rope separating the shallow and deep ends in the activity pool—if your duck wins, you get half the “pot” with the other half going to charity. Finish up the afternoon with Jumbo Volleyball at 4 p.m. and a 4 p.m. Bellyflop Contest. On Sunday, Aug. 27, choose from a variety of fun. At 9:30 a.m., check out Aqua Yoga. Channel your inner hippie from 1 to 4 p.m. with tie dye. Other activities include the 3 p.m. Ducky Derby and the 4 p.m. Ping Pong Championship. Chairlift rides aren’t just for ski season anymore, you can take in the last of the summer scenery on Holiday Valley’s
weekend chairlift rides on the Spruce Chair, located by Tannenbaum Lodge and Sky High. Enjoy the warm breeze as you head up to Spruce Lake, and enjoy the greenery before it turns to orange and yellow. Rides are available Saturdays and Sundays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Oct. 15. Spruce Lake is open to kayaking, canoeing and SUP daily, but the gate for car access is only open on weekends. Weekday access is by foot or via Mutton Hollow Road.
If your adventure side is calling, answer it with a visit to Sky High, made up of three components: the Aerial Park, the Climbing Forest and the Sky Flyer Mountain Coaster. The Aerial Park, the largest of its kind in New York State and third largest in the U.S., combines a series of platforms and bridges built in a 4-acre section of the woods near the
resort’s Tannenbaum Lodge. The Aerial Park includes 142 platforms, 170 elements and 43 ziplines, with the tallest platform at 68 feet and the longest zip line measuring 350 feet. Those ages five and up can enjoy the Climbing Forest, which is like a 3D version of a rock wall, and only one of three in the country. There are 10 trees outfitted with color-coded climbing holds and the difficulty ranges from very easy (yellow) to very challenging (purple). Each climber is fitted with a harness that is clipped into an Auto Belay system. Once a climber reaches the top of the tree at up to 45 feet, they just let go and the belay system slowly lowers them to the ground. There is also a kids’ area with two trees where the youngest climbers can climb about 6 feet up and climb back down. The Mountain Coaster takes riders up the hill in their own car and lets them control their own speed on the way back down. Olean Outdoor Festival 2017
This weekend, check out the Olean Outdoor Festival at Bradner Stadium on Friday, Aug. 25 from 5 to 11 p.m. and on Saturday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The festival is being led by Jamie Hamed of Amped Up Events, LLC and features a river regatta, archery competition, 5K color race, camping, wine tastings, tons of door prizes, and plenty of great company. Both days of the festival will offer food and craft vendors, a beer tent, three bounce houses, brush on tattoos, camping, yard games, LandPro Equipment with John Deere, Jim Coast Sales and Service with an array of ATV`s, Larry Spaac and Auto Choice of Olean with some awesome car deals, and Bob McKerrow & Sons with campers and RV`s. The festival will kick off on Friday with the “In Jest” Comedy Show by Dan Viola and Nels Ross and live music provided by Vapor. The night will close with a massive display of pyrotechnics provided by the notorious Skylighters Fireworks of New York.
Saturday starts with a 5K Color Race for bikers, runners, walkers or skaters, this will be followed by a regatta for kayaks, canoes, paddle boards or tubers along the 6.75-mile dice run river regatta, right on the beautiful Allegheny River. Meanwhile, hunters and competitive archers can challenge their skills with the archery shoot. Prizes will be awarded to contest winners for all events. When hunger strikes from a day of activity, everyone can take part in voting for the areas best chicken wing from several local restaurants and sample wines from a few great wineries. Hamed plans to wrap up the festivities on Saturday with live music from Darkwater
Duo, alongside a campfire. Admission is only $5 for adults, $3 for kids 8 to 16 and free for kids under 8, with $2.00 off presale tickets available at GOACC. Camping spots and extra parking are available in Forness Park. Come on out and bring the whole family for a ton of fun while supporting area charities such as The Rehabilitation Center, Homecare Hospice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the MakeA-Wish Foundation and more. Of course we still need another handful of volunteers. Hamed has set it up so each volunteer can raise $5 per hour of work toward the cause or fund of their choice. Volunteers will also get a free T-shirt, admission for the day and free drink and food tickets. a service organization that helps our community of parents and their young children, students, senior citizens and anyone else in need of assistance. “This event is the largest income event for the Rotary Club of Ellicottville, and it funds all of our year-round programs. Tuscan Moon is critical to our mission. Oh, and it’s a lot of fun!” said Rotarian Greg Cappelli. The Rotary Club of Ellicottville/Foundation for Youth and Family Support assists with the Ellicottville Food Pantry, the Women’s Shelter, medical emergencies, various ECS student programs, Ellicottville Memorial Library summer reading program and many other ongoing library programs, Kids’ Halloween Party at the Ellicottville American Legion, Bob McCarthy’s Irish Christmas, Santa’s Workshop, the Alley Katz and ongoing support for the Rotary Auditorium at the new Town Center, to name a few. The Rotary also provides school supplies to students at the start of the school year, special requests for eyeglasses, hearing aids, clothing and other items for ECS students. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners for families in need are also a part of their community support. It’s not too late to purchase tickets for the Saturday evening event.
