Allegany County COVID-19 infections increase; states added to travel advisory list

As Allegany County saw six new instances of COVID-19 infection in the past week, the governor added three states to the travel advisory requiring individuals who have traveled to New York from those states to quarantine for 14 days. Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said earlier this week the newly-added states are Delaware, Kansas and Oklahoma. The quarantine applies to any person arriving from a state with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average or a state with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average. increase in COVID-19 activity.” The total number of cases in the county reached 68 over the past weekend, with 63 people having recovered. One death was reported in late March. As of earlier this week, 989 isolations or quarantines have been reported by the county health department, with 61 remaining separated. Precautionary travel quarantines included 35 separations. Shaw reminded residents that wearing a mask in public and when not able to maintain 6 feet of separation assists in limiting the spread of COVID-19 and has been studied to reduce the travel of respiratory droplets when sneezing, coughing or talking. “Please consider future travel plans carefully and if you do have to travel, and while away, please use caution, wear a mask anytime you are out in public, practice social distancing (stay 6 feet away from any human that isn’t in your immediate household) and wash your hands frequently or use hand sanitizer while you are traveling,” he said. “When you get home, please call our office (585) 268-9250, to be placed on precautionary quarantine and we will give you instructions on how to proceed.” The requirements of the travel advisory do not apply to any individual passing through designated states for a
limited duration through the course of travel. Examples of such brief passage include but are not limited to: stopping at rest stops for vehicles, busesvand/or trains; or layovers for air travel, bus travel or train travel. The travel advisory requires all New Yorkers, as well as those visiting from out of state, to take personal responsibility for complying with the advisory in the best interest of public health and safety, authorities say. To file a report of an individual failing to adhere to the quarantine pursuant to the travel advisory, you may call (833) 789-0470 or visit this website: https:// mylicense.custhelp.com/ app/ask. Individuals may also contact the Allegany County Department of Health. Essential workers and their employers are expected to comply with previously issued DOH guidance regarding return to work after a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19 or after the employee had close or proximate contact with a person with COVID-19. Additionally, this guidance may be superseded by more specific industry guidance for a particular industry (e.g., for a nursing home worker, a negative test PCR test will be required before return to work). Consult with your employer regarding whether there is industry-specific guidance that may apply to you.
