Netanya Bravard is a New York-based fashion designer driven by a passion for storytelling through fashion. Inspired by the visionary legacies of Alexander McQueen and Dior, her design pushes boundaries and celebrates the beauty of individuality. Defined by its bold edge and a meticulous focus on creating striking silhouettes her design evokes emotion and captivates the imagination. The collections are a visual narrative, blending intricate craftsmanship with thought-provoking concepts that challenge traditional perspectives on beauty and imperfection.
The collection, Your Shadow , explores this duality, drawing upon Carl Jung’s psychological theory of the shadow—the unconscious mind’s repository of the traits we hide or repress.
The shadow represents the aspects of ourselves we deny, either because they conflict with societal norms, our self-image, or the expectations of others. Jung equates this to a metaphorical bag we carry, gradually overfilled with the parts of ourselves we refuse to confront. Eventually, the weight forces these hidden traits to spill out, revealing our most authentic selves. Through this collection, I seek to illuminate the beauty and complexity of these imperfections, transforming them into visually captivating narratives.
The concept of the shadow is steeped in mythology and storytelling, enriching its cultural resonance. In J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan , Peter’s mischievous and rebellious shadow acts as an independent force, embodying the aspects of his personality he struggles to control. In Greek mythology, Erebus—the primordial god of shadow—represents the unknown and the underworld, the shadowy counterpart to the light of existence. Across cultures, the shadow symbolizes repressed truths, hidden desires, and the tension between light and dark, reflecting Jung’s theory on both a psychological and mythological plane.
For this collection, I translate these ideas into a design narrative that balances the tension between concealment and revelation.
By using layers, asymmetry, and deconstruction, I evoke the fragmented and complex nature of the human psyche. Fabrics interplay between opacity and transparency, with textures and bindings symbolizing the struggle to hide or expose one’s inner self. A predominantly monochromatic palette sets the tone, representing the subconscious, while vibrant accents of blue and yellow illustrate moments of illumination— the transition from repression to self-acceptance.
The collection’s journey is expressed through a gradient from deep black to luminous white, symbolizing the shrinking shadow as self-awareness grows. As the garments progress, they transition from heavy, layered constructions to lighter, more open silhouettes, visually narrating the path from repression to integration. Each look captures a moment in the journey to reconcile with one’s shadow, culminating in designs that celebrate the beauty of embracing imperfection and wholeness. Through this collection, I aim to turn the concealed into art, inviting viewers to reflect on the shadows they carry and the light that emerges when they face them.
I am also the shadow the sun casts behind me.
Each day the shadow and I become one.
We are two sides of the same world.

The concept of the shadow extends beyond psychology, appearing in folklore and mythology worldwide.
In J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan , Peter’s mischievous, independent shadow symbolizes the unacknowledged parts of his psyche. His refusal to grow up reflects how we often reject aspects of ourselves tied to impulsiveness, fear, and inner conflict.
