Here to Work By: Tennell Atkins

I listened to the constituents of District 8. I heard them loud and clear when they said they want jobs with living wages within their community! As companies leave, they did not want to see vacant properties that contribute to urban blight and disfigurement. That the people want jobs within their community with living wages. Today I am happy to share 2 major accomplishments; Chime Solutions and car dealership Freedom Chevrolet Buick GMC. I traveled to Atlanta GA and found a company, Chime Solutions at an inner-city vacated J C Penny store. This company used this location as their corporate office to hire from within the community to help in the economic development of the community. Giving Chime Solution a $2M incentive ($1M this year and the $1M next year) Chime has come to the Red Bird redevelopment of D8. Last weekend Chime held their first job fair hiring the first 500 employees

to work at the Red Bird location. These employees come from within the surrounding apartments and neighborhoods. With a starting minimum wage of $14 per hour or an average annual income of $35K with Chime Solutions we are putting residents back to work. Once employed the employees are given the opportunity to advance from within the company before Chime going outside to fill jobs. Next year Chime will be using the next $1M incentive to hire another 500 employees. That will be 1000 new jobs and a real economic stimulation within District 8. Likewise, Freedom Chevrolet Buick GMC is under new ownership by the Morse family. This family started owning auto dealership back in the 1940s in Southern Florida. I met 3 rd generation owner and CEO Teddy Morse at a SMU golf tournament and welcomed him into our community. After interviewing the employees, it is the people that work at this dealership that make this dealership and make

the Morse family commitment to retain the 300 employees and support the community that supports the dealership. These employees will also get to keep their current benefits. The Morse family is not here to change what works he is here to make what works better. With the help from his Chief Counsel, Jeff Dwyer and his Community Relations Marketing Manager, Brenda Mosley Morse will continue reaching out into the community to reinvest into the community the dealership serves. So, as the Councilman for District 8 I continue to listen to what you tell me you want and do everything within my power to keep District 8 working so that we can continue bringing businesses and services to our community!

A Note From The Dentist

Brushing

Dr. Demetra Jones DDS

It is important to maintain good oral health at home. Brush your teeth for healthy teeth and gums. Brush your teeth to reduce tooth decay and gum disease. You should brush twice per day, preferably in the morning and at night

before you go to sleep. Brush your teeth at least 2 minutes. Time yourself when you brush, because you are brushing less time than you may think. Some electric toothbrushes have timers, but that usage is not necessary for everyone. If you are a caregiver, brush the patients/clients teeth as well. Use a toothbrush that you can grip and make sure the head of the brush is reaching all the surfaces of the teeth. Change your toothbrush when it is worn and bristles start sticking out not in the ideal pattern. Change your toothbrush every three to four months. Brush

your teeth in a circular motion. Do not brush hard. Do not use a hard bristled toothbrush. Brush all surfaces of the teeth and your tongue. As long as the toothpaste contains fluoride, any brand is fine. Look for the ADA seal of approval which means it is effective and safe based on ADA standards. Talk to your dentist and hygienist on your next cleaning
