Nothing written by Dallas Morning News reporter, Robert Wilonsky, appears to be done in good taste. When I pick up a news publication and look at the articles gracing the front page, my expectation is to gain knowledge of the top news stories of the previous day/evening and the wee hours of the morning. Like anyone else, I am looking for news story titles to see what grabs my attention. Just like you, I am using the story headlines to decide on what I am going to read, especially those headlines on the front page, to guide me through the publication, based upon my interests. As a woman of AfricanAmerican descent, my eyes automatically lock in on pictures and titles concerning the AfricanAmerican population here in Dallas. Last week Wednesday, when I picked up a copy of the Dallas Morning News dated July 24, 2019, two titles caught my attention - “Shared Comfort, Rage Amid Tragedy” and “2nd Plea in Bribery Case”. Honestly, I couldn’t even tell you what the other articles were about because my next hurried move, was to locate the continuation of these stories, in the other sections of the newspaper; and in that order.

Letter to Chief U Renee Hall from Commissioner John Wiley Price Dear Chief Hall, Please accept this letter written on behalf of a growing number of my constituents. Over the past few weeks, many of them have raised serious concerns over the perceived “super activity” of the officers “loaned” to the Dallas Police department to supplement its diminishing ranks. And while there is no contempt for the department of Public Safety officers, the issues brought forth deserve some answers. Presently, it appears as though the major arteries and thoroughfares in Black and Brown neighborhoods are being exploited. We have noticed what we consider to be overly aggressive activity. For example, the majority of calls I have received mention Lamar, Ledbetter, East oak Cliff and those contingent areas and communities. For the record, I was not elected by the fine people of the Preston Hollow or White rock neighborhoods, but I am confident that they are not seeing similar response. As usual, poorer and darker communities are affected first and farthest when “martial law” is personally declared in major Urban areas. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! Please accept this official request for information as prescribed by the Texas General Code in title 5, subchapter A, subtitle 552, otherwise known as the “Open Records Act,” or the more formally, the “Texas Public Information Act”. Once again let me reiterate; we are not anti-police and we are prop public safety. However, on the surface, this latest decision appears to be leveraged against us. Bad decision in policing are fraught with potential threats to the lives and liberties of the public and to peace officers. We can ill-afford any loss of either.
