CHAPTER 1: Rumbledumble goes on holiday
Be careful of the flowers, Maxi!
2 Rumbledumble has got a big head and a big
body. He’s got big hands and feet too! That’s because Rumbledumble is a giant. He lives in a big house with a big garden. 2
The only thing that isn’t big is his dog. The name of his dog is Maxi, which is a funny name because maxi means ‘very big’ but Rumbledumble’s dog is very small! Rumbledumble loves Maxi and he loves his beautiful garden! 3
3 One day Rumbledumble goes on holiday.
He gets his bag, his chair, his boat and his camera, and he calls Maxi.
Come on, Maxi. Let’s go to the beach!

4 So Rumbledumble and Maxi go off to the beach.
Look! Here’s Anna and some other children. What are they saying?
Let’s play in Rumbledumble’s garden! Yes! It’s very beautiful!
5 The children play in the garden. Some children
bounce a ball. Some watch the ducks and the lizards and the frogs and fish, and some play with the butterflies and squirrels. They’re all very happy!

CHAPTER 2: Rumbledumble comes home 6 Every day the children go to the garden and
every day they play. They are very happy! Then, one day, the giant Rumbledumble comes home. He sees the children playing in his garden. Do you think he is happy?

7 No, he isn’t! He’s very angry! He shouts at the
children in a very loud voice! The children are afraid and they run out of the garden.

You need: a chair for Rumbledumble to stand on, a toy dog and a ball (optional), chairs for the trees in the garden, bits of torn-up white paper for snow (optional), pictures of spring, summer, autumn and winter.
ACT 1: Pictures of summer around the room. Rumbledumble on his chair near the classroom door. Children in the road outside. Narrator: Rumbledumble goes on holiday. Rumbledumble: Come on, Maxi. Let’s go to the beach. Child 1: What a beautiful garden! Anna: Let’s play in the garden! ACT 2: Pictures of autumn around the room. Children playing in the garden. Narrator: The children are playing in the garden. Child 2: Look at those pink fish! Child 3: Hey! Catch the ball! Rumbledumble gets onto his chair near the classroom door. Child 4: Oh look! There’s Mr Rumbledumble! Narrator: Rumbledumble comes home. Rumbledumble: GET OUT OF MY GARDEN! NOW!!

The children outside the garden. Rumbledumble building a wall around his garden. Narrator: Rumbledumble builds a wall around his house. Anna: Please, let us play in your garden, Mr Rumbledumble. Rumbledumble: This garden is only for ME! ACT 3: Pictures of winter in the garden and spring outside. Narrator: Outside the giant’s garden it’s spring but in Rumbledumble’s garden it’s still winter! Rumbledumble waits and waits but spring doesn’t come to his garden. ACT 4 Narrator: Then it is winter again. Rumbledumble waits for spring but AGAIN spring doesn’t come to his garden. One day, he hears a bird. Rumbledumble: Listen, Maxi! It’s a bird! Narrator: Rumbledumble looks out of the window and says... Rumbledumble: Look! There are children in the garden! And it’s spring again! Narrator: Rumbledumble looks and thinks and understands. He isn’t selfish anymore. Rumbledumble: Hello, children. Please, come and play in my garden!
