For sisters Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy, growing up is hard. Their father is away in the Civil War, the family has little money and the girls don’t always make the best decisions, but when new friends arrive they learn to laugh and love again, and to become… little women.

Louisa May Alcott was born in Germantown, Philadelphia, USA in November 1832. She wrote novels, short stories and poems and is most famous for her book for young adults – Little Women, which tells the story of Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy March. Louisa grew up in Concord, near Boston, Massachusetts. She started writing from a young age, getting ideas for her stories from her own life. Her friends included famous writers of the day – Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau and Nathaniel Hawthorne. She died in 1888, aged 55.
