Ferrari Quarterly

Welcome to the frst Issue of Ferrari Quarterly at a time when Ferrari is going through a renewed period of new and innovative designs, which admittedly aren’t necessarily universally liked; but times move on and new ideas come along and the need for more efciency takes away some of the soul that the older cars have in bucket loads. Its that trying to strike a balance between the bean counters and the customers that is always tricky for any company let alone one that manufactures goods for the luxury market.

SC40: Latest One-of causes a stir

The veil has been lifted on a new Ferrari One-Off model from the Special Projects programme: the Ferrari SC40.

Designed by Ferrari’s Styling Centre under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, the SC40 is a mid-rear-engined V6 that takes its architecture, chassis and powertrain from the 296 GTB. The Ferrari SC40 joins the most exclusive segment of the range, that of unique, tailor-made cars, designed and built around the desires of a single client and representing the highest expression of Ferrari’s personalisation philosophy. The car’s name pays tribute to the F40. The SC40 echoes its sharp, angular lines, which, Maranello says, are skillfully combined with softer surface transitions, giving the car a contemporary feel and a strong, unmistakable identity.

The SC40 is an entirely new and unique design. With the “SC40” script engraved in

relief on the side of the wing a clear homage to the iconic Ferrari supercar; yet the goal was not to create a literal reinterpretation, but rather a model with its own distinct personality.

On the inside though, particular attention was given to the use of Kevlar, a material that strongly recalls the F40. The carbon-Kevlar has been reinterpreted and redeveloped for this project, and features in the footwells, behind the seats, and on parts of the floor mats. This distinctive material is also used for the steering wheel, some dashboard inserts, the engine bay, and the luggage compartment.

The SC40 White exterior colour, developed specifically for this car, features a cool hue that accentuates the body’s curves in sunlight and recalling the colour of the carbon-Kevlar used on the inside of the vehicle.

A styling buck of the car will be on display for all to see at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello.

Suppliers awarded at Mugello

This year, the Podio Ferrari, the event dedicated to Maranello's suppliers and strategic partners, took place in the evocative setting of the Finali Mondiali at the Mugello circuit, underscoring the strong sense of belonging to the Ferrari community: a network that unites customers, fans, Ferrari staff, and suppliers, along with their families.

During the awards ceremony, some of the key players in an outstanding technological innovation project, the F80, were recognised, demonstrating the value of collaboration and innovation as the foundation of longterm relationships between companies.

Their contribution in terms of technology, competitiveness and innovation is a vital factor in Ferrari’s continuing success

F50 at 30

Unlike its predecessor, the F40, the F50 didn’t have a link to Enzo because he had passed away the year after the car that celebrated 40 years of the company. However, the fact that F50 wasn’t signed off by Il Commendatore didn’t stop the company’s third supercar being any less of a Ferrari; nor would it stop it becoming another legendary model revered and loved by fans. Paul Beard celebrates an icon

In 1995, every school boy’s favourite poster car became the F50, with its dramatic looks and a top speed in excess of 200MPH. Unlike the two previous Ferrari supercars, GTO and F40, that were powered by turbocharged V8s, nestled into the chassis right behind the driver, was a longitudinally mounted 4.7 litre V12 - Enzo would definitely have approved of that! 520 HP in a rear driven car weighing approximately 1300 KG, that eschewed brake servo, ABS and power steering is a recipe for performance and fun especially when coupled with Formula one construction techniques and aerodynamics - that big fixed rear wing creating dramatic lines that even the modern day cars struggle to match. The simpler lines and red coachwork, which adorned most of the 349 cars produced, is easy on the eye but you still want to take time to drink in the beauty from every angle and repeat this task many times.

F80

The F80 will be produced in a limited run of just 799 examples and joins the pantheon of icons such as the GTO, F40 and LaFerrari by showcasing the best that the Maranello-based marque has achieved in terms of technology and performance.

Ever since 1984, Ferrari has periodically released a new supercar that represented the pinnacle of cutting-edge technology and innovation of its era and that was destined to become enshrined in popular culture. Intended for the most discerning clients of the brand, these cars immediately became legends in their own lifetime, making an
