Englewood Hospital treated 70 patients and performed 17 operations when it opened its doors for the first time in 1890. Today, more than 135 years later, Englewood Health stands as a regional leader in healthcare with locations in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Morris and Passaic counties. Each day, patients and families continue to place their trust in us during life’s most important moments. Throughout this report, we share stories of progress, growth and caring. Each is rooted within the same core set of values: compassion, clinical excellence, innovation and knowledge that at Englewood Health, you are family. Recently, it was announced that Englewood Health signed a definitive agreement to become part of RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey’s largest and most comprehensive academic health system. This new relationship will enhance healthcare services for patients and families in our communities and beyond. On a recent afternoon in the procedural suite at Englewood Hospital, team members worked together to ease the fears of a nervous patient preparing for a procedure. Nurses counseled her on what to expect from start to finish, patient care associates held her hand and a member of the transport team lightened the mood with laughter. By the end of the visit, the patient felt calmer, supported and ready to move forward with care.

“Englewood Health’s greatest asset is its workforce,” reflects Patricia Wilson, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at Englewood Health. “Across our health system, team members are united by a shared commitment to compassionate care, collaboration and respect for one another. That culture shapes every interaction and is one of the reasons so many people choose to build long careers here.” New recruits are often surprised to learn how many employees have spent decades at Englewood Health, with some reaching 40 or 50 years of service. Teamwork, opportunities for growth and a shared purpose help foster a culture where people feel connected to both their colleagues and the communities they serve.
Onward Donor generosity enables Englewood Health to recruit and retain top talent while also providing access to opportunities that support team members throughout their careers. “Thanks to donor support, over two hundred colleagues joined us for various educational gatherings in 2025,” notes Anand Srinivasan, MD, Director of Primary Care for the Englewood Health Physician Network. “These sessions allow us to learn and work collaboratively, resulting in stronger, more coordinated care for our patients.” A record-breaking 37 nursing scholarships were also awarded in the last calendar year. This investment will nurture the next generation of nursing professionals through education, mentorship and handson training. Grants were also awarded through the Physician Innovation Fund to underwrite Englewood Health physicianled projects that drive clinical innovation and enhance patient outcomes. While Englewood Health has grown exponentially, the organization remains united by a single guiding philosophy: We are in the business of helping people. Ms. Wilson shares, “We believe in our collective ability to make a meaningful difference and are committed to developing solutions that support our workforce and advance patient care goals.”

“Is there anything more exciting in life than seeking answers?” Isaac Asimov
Worldwide, healthcare systems continue to face a significant challenge in the detection of lung cancer. Here at home, Englewood Health is forging a new path to pinpoint disease—before symptoms appear—through its Lung Nodule Program and the deployment of innovative artificial intelligence (AI). “More than half of all patients with lung cancer are diagnosed at a late stage,” shares Christos Stavropoulos, MD, Chief of Thoracic Surgery at Englewood Health. “Early detection is paramount, but often, the disease goes undiagnosed because symptoms are not apparent.”
Onward Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. Diagnostic imaging plays a critical role in the diagnosis and monitoring of disease. To complement these tests, new AI technology at Englewood Health closely analyzes diagnostic images to identify incidental nodules and flag suspicious findings. This information helps physicians assess which patients may be at a higher risk for developing lung cancer. The result: A patient who arrives for a cardiac scan with no indication of lung disease may leave with answers that lead to earlier detection, timely intervention and a better chance at successful treatment. “Incorporating AI into diagnostic pathways allows us to uncover issues that might otherwise have gone unnoticed,” Dr. Stavropoulos says. Detection is just the first step. If clinical intervention is necessary, a multidisciplinary team is deployed to connect patients with the services and support needed to navigate care. This includes timely follow-up by a program coordinator and dedicated nurse navigator who will work with patients to ensure that they remain engaged participants throughout their healthcare journey. “This new technology creates opportunities for us to change the way we approach lung cancer. It is no longer a game of catch-up,” says Dr. Stavropoulos. “Instead, by detecting disease earlier, we can offer a broader range of treatment options and significantly improve patient outcomes. It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that Maria found herself in urgent need of a doctor. Concerned about her oxygen levels, she knew she needed help fast. “The timing could not have been worse,” says Maria. “I was struggling to breathe and I was scared—but thankfully, I knew who to call.” Based in Hudson County, New Jersey, Francisco Gonzalez, MD, has over three decades of experience caring for patients and families. “Many patients delay seeking medical attention until something feels seriously wrong. It is a pattern we see too often,” shares Dr. Gonzalez. For Maria, reaching out to Dr. Gonzalez changed her perspective on preventative care. “I could not have predicted the immeasurable impact that Dr. Gonzalez would have on me. The way I view medicine now is completely changed.”

to grow as more physician practices choose to align with the Englewood Health Physician Network. Says Dr. Gonzalez, “When patients come through our doors, we as physicians have a responsibility. Addressing an ailment is only the beginning. We must create connections rooted in trust and we need patients to know that we care for them the way we care for our own families.” Since Maria’s initial call, she has seen other Englewood Health providers and specialists. All share access to Epic, an electronic medical record that enables care teams to deliver continuity of care throughout the health system. “Englewood Health has thoughtfully created a healthcare experience with patients in mind, making it easier to access the care I need. At the helm is my primary care doctor, guiding me onward on the path to better health.” Dr. Gonzalez attributes experiences like Maria’s to the collaborative culture that exists within the network. “Nothing is fragmented at Englewood Health. Our colleagues work together to ensure better outcomes and that can make all the difference for patients.”
