رئٌس "مصر للطٌران" ٌفتتح نادي "إٌروسبورت" بمطار القاهرة
كتب -طه عبٌد: افتتح صفوت مسلم ،رئٌس الشركة القابضة "مصر للطٌران" ،المرحلة األولى من مشروع نادي "إٌروسبورت" الجدٌد ،التابع لوزارة الطٌران ،برئاسة اللواء طارق زكً رئٌس مجلس إدارة شركة "إٌروسبورت" للخدمات الرٌاضٌة ،بحضور عدد كبٌر من قٌادات وزارة الطٌران والشركات القابضة. ٌقام المشروع على مرحلتٌن ،بإجمالً مساحة 46فدانا منهم 36فدانا مساحات خضراء ،مُشٌرً ا إلى أنه تم االنتهاء من إنشاءات المرحلة األولى ،بتكلفة مالٌة تقدر بـ 300ملٌون جنٌه ،تم إنشاء المرحلة االولى على مساحة 36فدانا ،وتضم مبنى اجتماعً مقام على مساحة 120ألف متر مربع ،ملحق به جراج سٌارات ٌسع 500سٌارة ،مقام أسفل المبنى ،تم تجهٌزه بأحدث األجهزة والمعدات ،وٌضم المبنى عددا من الصالونات الفاخرة ،والكافٌهات ،وصاالت البلٌاردو ،وتراسات مفتوحة. ٌضم المبنى االجتماعً ،قاعة أفراح مجهزة بأحداث التجهٌزات الضوئٌة والصوتٌة تسع 500فرد، فضال عن عدد من المطاعم لخدمة األعضاء ،باإلضافة إلى مكتبة لالطالع والقراءة على جمٌع العلوم واألبحاث فً شتى المجاالت. وتشمل المرحلة األولى من المشروع ،قاعة نادي صحً وجٌم به أحدث األجهزة الرٌاضٌة المتنوعة، باإلضافة إلى غرفة ساونا وجاكوزي ،مجهزٌن على أعلى مستوى ،باإلضافة إلى منطقة األلعاب الحدٌثة المخصصة لألطفال ،تم إنشاؤها على مساحة 2000م مربع ،تضم جمٌع األلعاب الترفٌهٌة من سن 4سنوات حتى 12سنة. كما ٌضم النادي 10مالعب ،مقسمة على 5( :مالعب تنس أرضً ،ملعب 11بمقاسات دولٌة ،ملعب نجٌلة صناعً خماسً متعدد 3 ،مالعب متعدد) ،باإلضافة إلى حمام سباحة ترفٌهً ،ومساحات خضراء تخدم األعضاء.

عبدالصمد ماهر شارك وفد من وزارة الطٌران نٌابة عن وزٌر الطٌران ،الٌوم ،أطفال مستشفى سرطان األطفال 57357فرحة ما قبل شهر رمضان المبارك ،حٌث ساعدوهم فً تعلٌق الزٌنة الرمضانٌة على حوائط المستشفى ،فً جو أضفى على وجوه األطفال روح التعاون والفرحة ،والدعم النفسً والمعنوي. وبدأت زٌارة وفد شركة مصر للطٌران للمستشفى فً العاشرة صباحا ،حٌث استقبلهم األطفال مرضى السرطان بالموسٌقى والورود فً بهو المستشفى ،حٌث حرص الوفد على التقاط الصور التذكارٌة معهم ،ومداعبتهم ،وعناقهم ،وذلك على نغمة "خلٌك داٌما وش الخٌر". والتقط وفد الطٌران الصور التذكارٌة فً المستشفى مع بعض األطفال ،ثم انطلقوا فً جولة تفقدٌة لعٌادات وأقسام المستشفى ،لمشاهدة الجهود المبذولة إلنقاذ األطفال من السرطان ،وساهم خاللها فً تعلٌق الزٌنة الرمضانٌة فً المستشفى إلسعاد األطفال ومشاركتهم أجواء االحتفاالت باستقبال شهر رمضان المعظم.

«مصر للطٌران» تدرس افتتاح نقطة شحن جدٌدة فى أوغندا

تعتزم شركة مصر للطٌران للشحن الجوى افتتاح نقطة شحن جدٌدة بقارة أفرٌقٌا فى مدٌنة عنتٌبى بأوغندا خالل الفترة المقبلة ،بحسب باسم جوهر رئٌس الشركة. وقال جوهر لـ (مال وأعمال ــ الشروق) إن الشركة تعمل على شحن البضائع بٌن المطارات المحلٌة واألفرٌقٌة مثل تشاد والسودان وجنوب أفرٌقٌا ،وتستهدف زٌادة حجم خطوطها خالل الفترة المقبلة. وتوقع انتعاش حركة نقل البضائع من داخل األفرٌقٌة خالل العام المالى المقبل فى ظل زٌادة نقاط الشحن بداخل الدول األفرٌقٌة من جانب مصر للطٌران. وأضاف أن أبرز التحدٌات التى تواجه الشركة بداخل السوق األفرٌقٌة عدم وجود صادرات من تلك الدول مما ٌضطر طائرات الشركة إلى العودة فارغة. وحول زٌادة حجم أسطول الشركة ،أكد أنه من المقرر انضمام طائرة جدٌدة إلى أسطول الشركة خالل شهر ٌولٌو المقبل بعد إجراء تعدٌالت علٌها من خالل شركة إٌرباص. وأضاف أن الشركة تترقب انضمام طائرتٌن أخرٌٌن إلى األسطول خالل العام الجارى 2018والمقبل بهدف تعزٌز قدرة الشركة على فتح خطوط شحن جدٌدة. وتوقع تحقٌق نمو بواقع % 25بحجم شحن البضائع خالل العام المالى الجارى 2017/2018مقارنة بالعام الماضى.

فً ذكرى تحطم الطائرة المصرٌة بتونس ..حوادث "مصر للطٌران" خالل 20عا ًما كتب -هشام عواض: تمر الٌوم 7ماٌو الذكرى الـ 16على تحطم طائرة الركاب المصرٌة التابعة لشركة مصر للطٌران عام ،2002إثر اصطدامها بأحد التالل أثناء محاولة الهبوط اضطرار ًٌا فً منتزه النحلً قرب مطار قرطاج الدولً فً العاصمة التونسٌة. وحدث ذلك بسبب سوء األحوال الجوٌة ،ولقى 14راكبًا مصرعهم فً الحادث ،من مجموع 62 كانوا على متن الطائرة .وسبق أن تعرضت طائرات مصرٌة لعدة حوادث على مدار السنوات العشرٌن األخٌرة ،بحسب "بً بً سً". عام 2016 19ماٌو :اختفت طائرة إٌرباص تقل 56راكبًا فوق البحر أثناء رحلة من العاصمة الفرنسٌة بارٌس إلى القاهرة. مارس :اختطقت طائرة تابعة لمصر للطٌران كانت فً رحلة داخلٌة من قبل راكب زعم أنبحوزته حزامًا ناس ًفا ،ثم حول وجهتها إلى قبرص حٌث حرر الركاب واستسلم للسلطات القبرصٌة .والح ًقا أعلنت السلطات القبرصٌة أن الحزام كان مزٌ ًفا. عام 2011ٌولٌو :أجلً ركاب طائرة من طراز بوٌنج 777من طائرات الشركة المتوجهة إلى السعودٌة قبل إقالعها من مطار القاهرة الدولً ،بعد اندالع النار فً قمرة القٌادة. ونجا جمٌع الركاب وأصٌب سبعة منهم إصابات مختلفة ،لكن الحرٌق دمر الطائرة ولم ٌعد باإلمكان إصالحها لتعود إلى الخدمة .وأوضحت تحقٌقات الشركة أنه السبب عطل كهربائً. -عام 2000
2 حاول راكب اختطاف رحلة مصر للطٌران بواسطة عبوة كرٌم شعر مدعًٌا أنها قنبلة وطالب بتغٌٌر مسار الطائرة المتجهة إلى مطار أسوان الدولً إلى أفغانستان لكن طاقم الطائرة سٌطر علٌه بعدما حاول اقتحام غرفة القٌادة. عام 1999كانت الحادثة األسوأ فً تارٌخ شركة مصر للطٌران ،عندما تحطمت طائرة بوٌنج 767فً رحلتها 990القادمة من نٌوٌورك للقاهرة بعد نحو ساعة من إقالعها ،وسقطت فً المحٌط األطلسً وقتل 217وهم جمٌع من كان على متنها .وترددت أنباء عن دور مساعد الطٌار فً إسقاطها لكن المسؤولٌن آنذاك نفوا مسؤولٌته عن الحادث. عام 1997انزلقت طائرة مصرٌة أثناء هبوطها فً مطار أتاتورك الدولً فً إسطنبول وخرجت عن مدرج الهبوط قبل أن تعلق فً األرض الطٌنٌة ،التً حالت دون وقوع كارثة حسب السلطات التركٌة. عام 1996اختطف راكب مصري وابنه إحدى طائرات الشركة بعد هبوطها فً مطار األقصر مهددٌن بتفجٌرها وطالبوا بإقالع الطائرة باتجاه لٌبٌا ،وعندما هبطت الطائرة فً النهاٌة فً مطار مدٌنة درنة اللٌبٌة استسلم الخاطفان للسلطات اللٌبٌة

شهد مطار القاهرة الدولً ،صباح الٌوم ،تأخر إقالع 3رحالت دولٌة ،عن موعدهم المقرر بجدول التشغٌل بسبب ظروف التشغٌل ،إضافة إلى إلغاء رحلتٌن تابعتٌن للخطوط الجوٌة السعودٌة بسبب عدم جدواهما االقتصادٌة. وكشفت مصادر مالحٌة بالمطار ،عن أن رحلة الخطوط المغربٌة رقم ،237المتجهة إلى الدار البٌضاء ،تأخرت أكثر من ساعة عن موعدها بجدول التشغٌل ،وتأخرت رحلة الخطوط التركٌة رقم 693المتجهة إلى إسطنبول ،إضافة إلى تأخر رحلة الخطوط السوٌسرٌة رقم 239المتجهة إلى زٌورٌخ ،بسبب ظروف التشغٌل للرحالت ،كما ألغٌت رحلتان للخطوط السعودٌة اإلضافٌة ،المتجهتان إلى مدٌنة جدة والمخصصٌن لنقل المعتمرٌن إلى األراضً المقدسة ،بسبب عدم جدواهما االقتصادٌة. وفً غضون ذلك ،شهدت صاالت الوصول والسفر تنسٌقا بٌن األجهزة األمنٌة وباقً األجهزة العاملة فً المطار ،لتسٌٌر حركة الركاب القادمٌن والمغادرٌن ،وخصو ً صا كبار السن والمعتمرٌن.

تأخر إقالع رحلتٌن دولٌتٌن من مطار القاهرة

شهد مطار القاهرة الدولً ،الٌوم الثالثاء ،تأخر إقالع رحلتٌن دولٌتٌن أكثر من ساعة عن موعد اإلقالع المقرر لهما بسبب ظروف التشغٌل وأعمال الصٌانة. وأفاد مصدر مالحً بالمطار ،أن رحلة شركة نسما للطٌران 120المتجهة إلى تبوك تأخرت ساعتٌن عن موعد اإلقالع المقرر لها بسبب أعمال الصٌانة ،كما تأخرت رحلة الشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران 661المتجهة إلى تبوك 70دقٌقة بسبب ظروف التشغٌل ،مشٌرا إلى أنه لم ٌتم إلغاء أي رحالت لشركات الطٌران.

أعلنت الخطوط الجوٌة التاٌالندٌة أنها سددت تعوٌضا ً لراكب حصلت الشركة منه رسوما ً إضافٌة بسبب طول اسمه. وذكرت صحٌفة “بانكوك بوست” تحصٌل رسم إضافً من الراكب ،الذي لم ُتكشف هوٌته، فً مكتب تسجٌل الدخول بعد أن قال موظفو الخطوط الجوٌة إن االسم الموجود فً تذكرته ال ٌُطابق االسم الموجود على جواز السفر. وقال الراكب إنه لم ٌتمكن من إدخال اسمه بالكامل بسبب حد معٌن لعدد األحرف المسموح بإدخالها على الموقع اإللكترونً للخطوط الجوٌة التاٌالندٌة عند الحجز ،وإن اسمه ٌفوق الحد المسموح به. ودفعت الخطوط الجوٌة التاٌالندٌة تعوٌضا ً للرجل مقابل الرسوم اإلضافٌة التً ُحصلت منه، وقالت إنها تنفذ خطوات لمنع تكرار المشكلة مرة أخرى.

Egypt FA end Salah’s image rights dispute
After Liverpool winger, Mohamed Salah, revealed his disappointment from the way the Egyptian Football Association decided to deal with his image rights’ dispute, which saw the country’s football governing body use the player’s image on the Egypt team plane. Salah took to Twitter conveying his frustration which sparked public opinion and pushed Egypt‘s sports minister to intervene and resolve the issue, assuring the player and fans that things are finally going in the right direction. Saudia launches free onboard WhatsApp service
Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) has launched a new feature onboard, allowing passengers to send and receive WhatsApp messages during their flight. The kingdom's flag carrier will offer the WhatsApp service for free for 10MB of text message usage, it said. The new service will first be made available on all domestic flights before moving to international routes. Launched in collaboration with Sitaonair, this latest advancement once again establishes the airline as a pioneer in both the market, and in advancing inflight connectivity.

Ethiopian Airlines to step up expansion with more deals and jets
Even by its own standards, Ethiopian Airlines‘ ETHA.UL recent growth has been fast — so fast that it revised the ambitious 15year strategy set in 2010 and plans to buy more planes to step up its expansion. Its plan had been to more than double its fleet to 120 and become Africa‘s biggest airline by 2025, but it already has 100 planes flying to dozens of destinations from Asia to South America, including four U.S. cities. The state-owned carrier has also outpaced regional competitors Kenya Airways (KQNA.NR) and South African Airways to become Africa‘s largest airline by revenue and profit, according to the International Air Transport Association.

Ethiopian Airlines and Aviators Africa School Club (AASC) have entered into a partnership to catch up with global development in air traffic and build capacity in the sector. Aviators Africa Academy (AAA), an initiator of the school club in Nigeria, was born out of the need to inspire the next generation in the aviation and aerospace in the country. Tigist Terefe, Manager, Sales and Business Development, Ethiopian Airlines Aviation Academy, said the airline was pleased to be partnering with the school club in ensuring that the sector has adequate manpower. Nigeria’s air travel: From recession to boom The International Air Transport Association (IATA) last week in its passenger traffic figure released, said the region‘s two largest economies- Nigeria and South Africa- have continued to experience increased traffic growth. The clearing house for over 280 global airlines attributed the situation to business confidence, which it said has risen sharply over the past 15 months while a reduction in political uncertainty in South Africa contributed to an environment in business confidence there for the first time in more than a year. Capacity rose 3.3 per cent and load factor climbed 1.9 per cent to 67.8 per cent according to IATA. It added that monthly capacity increased by 6.3 per cent and load factor rose 0.9 per centage point to 80.4 per cent, surpassing the previous record for the month of 79.5 per cent, which was set in February 2017. The IATA‘s Director-General and Chief Executive Officer, Alexandre de Juniaca, stated that the growth was supported by solid business confidence especially in Africa. Many are of the view that the Nigerian aviation industry, which suffered from relatively low patronage due largely to softer demand in the wake of the recession the country entered into, is picking up very fast. In the height of the recession, personal travels fell drastically as average purchasing power dropped abysmally vis-avis rising cost of tickets. However, business travel continued to drive air passenger traffic across the country. Analysts adduced high operational costs as cause of the in creased ticket fares, saying that aviation fuel accounts for about 40 percent of operational costs. Industry sources indicate that the price of aviation fuel currently stands at N265/l.

2 They noted that the airline business is often the first hit during recession and improves once the economy picks up or recovers. For international travel, they noted that forex sourcing issues had a severe negative effect on airline operators, as they could not repatriate funds. Over $500 million of international airlines funds were trapped in Nigeria. Funds repatriation is extremely important for day-to-day activities for the airline industry, which operates on a thin profit margin. Affected carriers were in dire straits. The situation affected their operations. Some of them like Iberia and United Airlines from Spain and the United States closed shop. They stopped operations into the country. Some others cut their frequencies from 21 weekly frequencies to seven. That was how bad the situation was in 2016 and 2017. The situation brought panic to the government. But the swift intervention of the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) helped to ameliorate a very bad situation. Airlines‘ funds were released in tranches until the government cleared the entire backlog. That singular situation brought sanity to the sector. Domestic carriers also got a window where they accessed foreign exchange at reasonable cost. Carriers such as Emirates quickly resuscitated its Dubai-Abuja flight. During those difficult days, Nigeria became less attractive for operators and a few airlines reduced the frequency of their flights. For domestic players, the forex shortage has led to scarcity of imported aviation fuel. Marketers have complained about the challenge to source dollars to import aviation fuel. There is a school of thought that suggests that oil marketers intentionally import less oil than is needed to meet demand. This created an artificial scarcity and keeps the price high. Jet A1 fuel prices are approximately 70 per cent higher than they were in 2016. BA predicted boom Like a soothsayer, Country Commercial Manager for British Airways, Mr. Kola Olayinka, had predicted that Nigeria would experience a boom in air travel this year going by marginal improvement in air travel. Speaking exclusively New Telegraph in Lagos last year, he stated that Nigeria would also experience increase in passengers going by the huge travel needs, occasioned by situation, which has led to improvement in the economy. His words: ―Let‘s be very honest, as a Nigerian looking at this economy, almost everybody is rationalising. Let‘s take it from the family unit. Sometimes I say to the kids ‗you are not going for summer this time; this is what I can afford.‘ ―Everybody is doing that.

The BA chief explained that airlines‘ trapped funds in Nigeria and some other countries equally did an incalculable damage to air travel in the country, just as it affected many other frequent travellers. During the period, frequent travellers on premium classes downgraded to economy and other classes of travel. Spokesman for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Sam Adurogboye, admitted that there is huge improvement in the aviation sector in terms of growth and passenger traffic; an indication that the worst is over. Asian jet fuel buyers paying the highest premiums to get supply since 2008 Asian jet fuel buyers are paying the highest premiums for this time of year in 10 years as new and expanded airports in the region push its consumption to new highs. The premium for jet fuel cargoes in the Asian trading hub of Singapore was $1.01 a barrel above benchmark quotes on Friday (JET-SIN-DIF), the highest for this time of year since 2008, according to data on Thomson Reuters Eikon. The booming aviation market has also pushed up the profit margins, known as cracks, refiners make from producing jet fuel to their highest since early 2015. Demand for jet fuel, which is composed of the middle distillate fuel kerosene that is also used for heating, was expected to ease after the winter heating season, but consumption has stayed strong on a jump in orders from the aviation industry. The demand earlier this winter drove the jet fuel/kerosene premium to $2.28 a barrel Feb. 27, the most since May 2008.
―A rise in air-passenger traffic coming from increasing consumer affluence and improving infrastructure supports the strength in Asian jet fuel demand growth,‖ said Sri Paravaikkarasu of energy consultancy FGE.

2 The Asia Pacific region makes up over one-third of the global air passenger market, gaining on average a bit over 1 percent in global market share per year. ―Asia will remain the corner-stone for global jet fuel demand expansion in the coming decades,‖ Paravaikkarasu said. In March alone, Asia‘s passenger traffic rose by 12 percent compared to last year, according to data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released last week. ―The strong first quarter provides healthy momentum heading into the peak travel period in the northern hemisphere. Benign and being supported by economic conditions are supporting â ‗good demand for air travel,‖ Alexandre de Juniac, IATA‘s chief executive said last week. Tighter supply The current run of seasonal oil refinery maintenance in Asia has added to the pricing pressure by curtailing the supply of jet fuel available to the market.
There is 2.46 million barrels per day (bpd) of Asian oil refining capacity planned to undergo maintenance in May, according to data from consultants Energy Aspects. That is nearly equal to the crude oil demand of South Korea. This supply tightness is occurring as travel demand in country‘s like China and India spur more jet consumption.
3 China‘s domestic air traffic alone climbed 15 percent in March from a year ago, the strongest pace in five months, IATA data showed. India‘s March domestic traffic rose by 28 percent, marking the 43rd straight month of double-digit growth, as the government embarks on an ambitious infrastructure development plan. Lagging slightly behind India and China, but still seeing strong expansion thanks to economic growth and rising tourism figures, is Southeast Asia. Singapore‘s DBS Bank expects passenger growth for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), home to more than 600 million people in 10 countries, to be around 6 percent in 2018. The general boom in demand is a boon for refiners. Asia‘s jet fuel crack was at $15.75 per barrel above benchmark Dubai crude, more than 50 percent higher than a year ago. The cracks peaked at $18.03 in February.
For all of 2018, Sukrit Vijayakar, director of energy consultancy Trifecta, said he expects an average jet fuel crack of $16.50 per barrel. While an advantage for refiners, the high jet fuel prices threaten airline profits, for whom fuel is by far the biggest cost factor.

Lufthansa Group Continues to Invest in Fleet Modernization
The Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG has approved an order for up to 16 additional aircraft in today‘s meeting. The list price of the aircraft is approximately 2.1 billion euros. Delivery is scheduled to take place in stages until 2022. The investment plan for the 2018 fiscal year remains unchanged at 3.4 billion euros. The order includes two Boeing 777-300ER long-haul aircraft for SWISS, which are expected to supplement the existing SWISS fleet beginning in early 2020 and will be used to expand the route network. An additional two Boeing 777F will be ordered for Lufthansa Cargo. The modern freight aircraft will replace MD11 cargo planes in the future. This will simultaneously decrease fuel consumption, noise emissions and unit costs. The investment in fleet expansion at SWISS and a more modern cargo fleet for Lufthansa Cargo reflect the economic success of the two companies. In the first quarter, traditionally a weak quarter for airlines, SWISS had a profit margin of over nine percent;

The order for the new long-haul aircraft highlights the Lufthansa Group strategy to predominantly allocate the growth within its multi-hub system where cost and quality offer the best conditions for profitable investments. The Supervisory Board also approved the order of up to twelve short- and medium-haul A320-type aircraft. This includes six delivery options for aircraft of the Airbus A320neo (new engine option) type in 2022 that were converted to fixed orders. When they are delivered, they will replace older aircraft in the flight operations of the Lufthansa Group. Depending on availability, up to six additional A320ceo (current engine option) will be ordered. The plan is to deploy them at Lufthansa during the current year in order to offset delivery delays for the Airbus A320neo aircraft.

Lufthansa To Order Up To 16 Airbus, Boeing Aircraft Lufthansa said it will order up to 16 aircraft from Airbus and Boeing, with a value of EUR€2.1 billion (USD$2.5 billion) at list prices if all options are taken up. The Lufthansa group board approved the orders at a meeting on Monday, with deliveries to be completed by 2022, the airline said. Signalling a continuing shortfall in Airbus A320neo deliveries, Lufthansa said it will order up to six A320ceos, depending on availability, for immediate deployment. It also converted six A320neo options to firm orders for 2022 delivery. Lufthansa‘s SWISS unit will get two Boeing 777-300ERs to add to its existing fleet of ten of the type. With deliveries starting in 2020, SWISS will use the new aircraft to expand its route network. A company statement said the long-haul order ―highlights the strategy of Lufthansa Group to predominantly allocate the growth within its multi-hub system where cost and quality offer the best conditions for profitable investments.‖ Rounding off the new orders, Lufthansa Cargo will take two additional Boeing 777F freighters to replace older MD11s. The cargo subsidiary currently operates 12 MD11 and five 777F freighters.

Air Canada celebrates 70 years of service
Leisure air arrivals from Canada climbed 20 per cent in the first quarter of 2018. Bermuda Tourism Authority chief executive Kevin Dallas announced the jump as officials celebrated the 70th anniversary of Air Canada‘s service to Bermuda yesterday. Mr Dallas said the island had enjoyed ―a comeback of Canadian visitors after several difficult years‖. He told a press gathering at the airport: ―In 2017, Bermuda experienced a 19 per cent increase in leisure air visitors from Canada. ―That is sizeable year-over-year growth and we think the island is well positioned to see further growth from Canada. ―Indeed, while our full results won‘t be available until next week, we can reveal that in the first quarter of 2018 leisure air arrivals from Canada continued to climb — up 20 per cent over the same quarter a year ago.‖

Southwest Plane Collides With Service Truck The PR hits for Southwest Airlines continued over the weekend with one of the low cost carrier‘s aircraft involved in a collision with a ground services truck. Flight 6263 from Fort Lauderdale to Baltimore was approaching its gate at BWI around 1.30am Monday morning when a ground vehicle came into contact with the aircraft, the airline said. None of the 172 passengers was hurt, and after a delay, they left the aircraft. The cause of the collision is not known, but the FAA will investigate, it said. The Baltimore incident is the third involving Southwest in three weeks after an engine explosion caused the death of a passenger in April, and a flight was diverted last week due to a cabin window crack. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating last month‘s engine failure, with the FAA directing airlines to inspect fan blades on the type of engine involved in that incident.

SAS adds half a million seats to its winter program On the intercontinental routes, there will be an increase in the number of flights from Copenhagen to both Washington and Miami, whilst there will be a doubling of the weekly flights between Stockholm and Miami. The Scandinavian capitals – Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen – will see an increase in the number of flights to a number of European destinations. In addition, several completely new routes will be introduced, including Gothenburg – Berlin , Stockholm – Oulu, Tampere – Malaga and Bergen – Aberdeen. This initiative is in response to good market growth plus higher passenger numbers in winter, a period that usually sees lower demand than the summer season. SAS will fly 200 routes in its winter program for the first time and 18 new routes for the whole of 2018. – We are delighted that the routes and products we offer are being so well received and enabling us to boost our winter program by continuing to operate routes and increase the number of departures. SAS made a substantial investment in Aarhus, Denmark, in April and this will be continued this winter with routes to destinations such as Malaga, Munich, Stockholm and Oslo. From Copenhagen Kastrup, the timetable will continue to include flights to Gazipasa and Beirut this winter plus more departures to Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Brussels and Munich.

2 SAS will also expand capacity on routes to Bergen and Tromsø, Norway, to meet increased demand. The Tromsø route was originally planned for the winter program only, but its popularity has persuaded SAS to offer departures throughout the summer and winter. SAS will also operate the Stockholm – Tromsø route up to five times a week during the winter. – SAS has an attractive route network in the US and Asia, which has contributed to healthy growth in passenger numbers that fly via Copenhagen, Stockholm or Oslo. These connections link these cities to SAS and the Star Alliance network, offering travelers convenient access to many parts of Scandinavia, Gustafson says. Although Copenhagen – Boston will take a winter break, the number of intercontinental flights to Miami and Washington DC will be increased, with three and seven weekly departures from Kastrup, respectively. The frequency of flghts to Miami from Stockholm will double. In Norway, Oslo will have more frequent departures to Warsaw, Billund, Dusseldorf and Gazipasa, plus flights to a number of other cities: A new route between Bergen – Aberdeen is being established, whilst the Bodø – Alicante route is proving very popular with customers and will continue in the winter program. There will also be new direct routes from Stockholm to Oulu, Finland, plus additional departures between Gothenburg and Berlin. Berlin is currently also serviced from Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo. There will also be more frequent departures from Stockholm to more European destinations, such as Alicante, Lisbon, Turku and Örnsköldsvik. Tampere in Finland will gain a new route to Malaga in the SAS winter program, with tickets going on sale later in May.

An El Al 787 pilot recently may have endangered the safety of his plane and its passengers when he accidentally input the wrong data into the jet‘s computers, Channel 10 news reported Monday. Ahead of a flight from Israel‘s Ben Gurion Airport to New York, the pilot entered weight figures which were 40 tons lighter than the aircraft‘s actual load for that flight. The plane‘s computers use weight data in various calculations relating to take-off. Gal Peleg, CEO of plane seller Jetsetter, told Channel 10 that a discrepancy of tens of tons could have been disastrous. For example, the aircraft may have incorrectly determined the speed required for take-off. ―When a plane reaches the end of a runway and doesn‘t have enough speed to lift off, it‘s beyond braking speed, loaded with fuel, heavy and unable to fly — that‘s a very dire, dangerous situation.‖ El Al in a statement insisted that ―at no stage was there any danger to the passengers or the plane.‖ It said it had ―investigated and handled in incident immediately‖ and was awaiting a report by the Transportation Ministry before it takes further action
