كتب ــ محمد عبدالناصر : شهد أول أٌام تشغٌل خط الطٌران الجدٌد الذي دشنته شركة طٌران النٌل بٌن مطارى القاهرة وصبٌحة فى تركٌا ،أزمة نتجت عن تأخر أول رحلة ساعتٌن بسبب رفض تركٌا قبول ركاب الرحلة بدون تأشٌرات دخول مسبقة ،إال أن مسئولى الشركة نجحوا فى إقناع السلطات التركٌة بقبول ركاب الطائرة. وصرحت مصادر مالحٌة بمطار القاهرة أن أول رحلة حملت رقم 191غادرت وعلٌها 149راكبا وبعد إنهاء إجراءات سفر الركاب وقبل صعودهم إلى الطائرة تلقت الشركة إشارة من السلطات التركٌة بعدم دخول الركاب بدون تأشٌرات دخول مسبقة رغم أنه ٌتم السماح لركاب مصر للطٌران والخطوط التركٌة بالدخول بدون تأشٌرات دخول مسبقة. وبعد إتصاالت مكثفة بٌن مسئولى شركة الطٌران والسلطات التركٌة تم الموافقة على دخول ركاب الرحلة والتى إستأنفت رحلتها بعد تأخٌر حوالى ساعتٌن.

Malaysia Airlines Announces Leadership Changes The Board of Directors of Malaysia Aviation Group Berhad (MAG) today (30 June) announced leadership changes at Malaysia Airlines Berhad (MAB), which will see current Group Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Christoph Mueller handing over to Chief Operating Officer (COO) Peter Bellew in an accelerated leadership transition. Mr. Mueller, who resigned on 10 March 2016 and is serving his notice period to 9 September 2016, will go on leave and step down from the MAB Board from 1 July 2016. He will be replaced by Mr. Bellew, who has been appointed the new Group MD and CEO of MAG and MAB respectively, effective 1 July 2016. Mr. Mueller will remain available to the company until the end of his notice period to help ensure a smooth leadership transition. The leadership changes have been approved by Khazanah Nasional Berhad (Khazanah), the sole shareholder of MAG. Mr Bellew’s appointment follows a comprehensive search for a new CEO conducted by Khazanah and the MAB Board. The process, which commenced in April 2016, involved internal and external as well as local and foreign candidates. Mr. Bellew has been a member of MAB’s senior management team since the first day of its full operations on 1 September 2015. His appointment as the new Group MD and CEO will ensure continuity in the execution of the Malaysia Airlines’ turnaround plan and further progress of the overall restructuring effort, as set out by Khazanah in its 12-point MAS Recovery Plan. It also allows for an accelerated and seamless leadership transition from Mr. Mueller.
2 An Irish national, Mr. Bellew has over 20 years of experience in the aviation industry. He joined MAB from Ryanair Ltd., where he served in various roles with increasing responsibility since 2006, leaving the airline as the Director of Flight Operations responsible for 72 bases operating a total of 320 aircraft. In this role, he ensured cost-effective operations and punctuality at more than 150 airports in over 30 countries, created a training organisation for 600 new Boeing pilots, built employee representative council structures in 19 countries, opened 61 new overseas bases, and introduced new technologies to reduce costs across the airline. Mr. Bellew also served as the Head of Sales and Marketing at Ryanair, where he played a pivotal role in introducing new customer service initiatives, pan-European TV advertising, and positive press relations, contributing to record sales. Prior to that, he served as Deputy Director of Flight Operations. Besides being MAB COO, Mr. Bellew is also an Executive Director on the MAG and MAB Boards, together with Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Omar Siddiq Amin Noer Rashid. En. Omar was appointed Director on the MAB Board on 8 September 2015, and was made MAB CFO and Executive Director on the MAB Board on 5 January 2016. En. Omar joined MAB as CFO from Khazanah, where he was Executive Director, Investments overseeing the aviation sector. Prior to that, he was Managing Director and Regional Head for Aviation, Technology, Media, and Telecoms in the Investment Banking Division of CIMB. Air Freight Demand Growth Slows in May
Geneva - The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released global air freight data showing that demand measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs) slowed in May with growth falling to 0.9% year-on-year. Yields remained pressured as freight capacity measured in available freight tonne kilometers (AFTKs) increased by 4.9% year-on-year. Freight demand decreased or flat lined in May across all regions with the exception of Europe and the Middle East. These regions recorded growth in air cargo volumes of 4.5% and 3.2%, respectively, in May, compared to the same period last year. Broad weakness in world trade volumes, which have largely tracked sideways since the end of 2014, accounts for about 80% of air freight’s sluggish performance. ―Global trade has basically moved sideways since the end of 2014 taking air cargo with it. Hopes for a stronger 2016 are fading as economic and political uncertainty increases. Air cargo is vital to the global economy. But the business environment is extremely difficult and there are few signs of any immediate relief,‖ said Tony Tyler, IATA’s Director General and CEO.

Asia-Pacific airlines reported a 0.7% decrease in demand for air cargo in May compared to last year. Capacity expanded 3.7%. Airlines in Asia-Pacific continue to face headwinds from weak trade in the region and globally. North American carriers experienced a decline in demand in year-on-year performance of 0.2%. Freight volumes have suffered from the strength of the US dollar which has kept the US export market under pressure. This has contributed to the freight demand of US carriers remaining in negative territory for the past twelve consecutive months. European airlines witnessed a 4.5% increase in freight volumes and a 5.7% increase in capacity in May 2016. The positive European performance corresponds with an increase in export orders in Germany over the last few months.

Middle Eastern carriers saw demand expand by 3.2% and capacity rise 9.5% in May 2016 compared to the same period last year. Despite carriers in the region reporting the fastest growth in aggregate, demand conditions have weakened considerably. Annual growth in May 2016 was one-fifth of the pace registered in May 2015. This reflects both an easing in network expansion by the region’s main carriers over the past six months and weak trading conditions. Latin American airlines reported a decline in demand of 9.7% and a decrease in capacity of 7%, as economic conditions continued to worsen in Latin America, particularly in the region’s largest economy, Brazil. African carriers saw freight growth in May 2016 of 0.3% compared to the same period last year. African airlines’ capacity increased by 22.2% year-on-year on the back of long-haul expansion continuing the trend seen since December 2015.

United launched several operational initiatives last year to improve reliability, including making scheduling adjustments, increasing its focus on teamwork and utilizing innovative technology in the airline's state-ofthe-art Network Operations Center. As United reported last month, the airline expects approximately $300 million of value by 2018 from running a more reliable airline.

India has world’s highest domestic growth in 2015 The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has announced that, among the world’s largest domestic markets, India had the fastest domestic passenger growth in 2015. With annual growth of 18.8% (in a market of 80 million domestic passengers(, India’s performance surpassed that of Russia )11.9% growth, in a market of 47 million domestic passengers), China (9.7% growth, in a market of 394 million domestic passengers) and the United States (5.4% growth, in a market of 708 million domestic passengers). This information was included in the recently released 60th Edition of the World Air Transport Statistics (WATS), the yearbook of the airline industry’s performance. Tony Tyler, IATA’s director general and CEO said: ―Last year airlines safely carried 3.6 billion passengers—the equivalent of 48% of the Earth’s population—and transported 52.2 million tonnes of cargo worth around $6 trillion. In doing so, we supported some $2.7 trillion in economic activity and 63 million jobs.‖ Highlights of the 2015 airline industry performance: Passengers System-wide, airlines carried 3.6 billion passengers on scheduled services, an increase of 7.2 % over 2014, representing an additional 240 million air trips. Airlines in the Asia-Pacific region once again carried the largest number of passengers.

You can also transfer the points to certain hotel chains, so if no decent seats are available for the flights you want, at least you can bunk for free. 3 The more you fly, the better things get. Accruing enough miles within a certain time period will grant you ―status‖ with an airline. Most of the major carriers have several different tiers, and with each one the miles you earn increases. ―For a lot of programs, a general member earns five miles-per-dollar, then the next tier is seven, and the top tier elites get 11 miles-per-dollar,‖ says Stewart. Plus, status matters when it comes to securing upgrades. For those who don’t fly a ton, the best way to get status is to do a ―status challenge.‖ Airlines occasionally run programs where if you fly a certain number of miles in a certain time period (usually 7,500-10,000 miles within 90 days), you automatically become an elite. Most airlines charge a small fee to participate; $100–$150 is the norm. If you know you have several long hauls coming up (these programs work off of butt-in-seat miles, not dollars spent miles(, it’s worth going for. Air cargo firms feel the pressure from plunge in freight prices BERLIN (Reuters) - Following a sharp fall in freight prices air cargo companies are set to trim their fleets and jobs further to battle overcapacity while looking for new partnerships and products to carry, industry executives and analysts say. Global trade volumes fell for the first time since 2009 by 1.7 percent between the final quarter of 2015 and the first quarter of 2016 and the International Air Transport Association has lowered its growth forecast for air freight demand in 2016 to 2.1 percent from 3 percent. And while the impact of Britain's Brexit vote on the UK air freight market remains uncertain, prices for air freight generally are down about 15-20 percent compared with last year due to capacity outstripping demand by a factor of three. "It's a landslide," Lufthansa Cargo CEO Peter Gerber said on Tuesday. "With prices falling so quickly, we have to cut costs." Freight carriers are also seeking new types of business, or focusing on higher-margin areas, such as delivering pharmaceuticals. Lufthansa Cargo for example says it is looking at dealing with customers directly, rather than via the freight forwarders that currently account for up to 95 percent of its business. And it has been in talks with online retailers such as Alibaba and Amazon.com , which have been reviewing their logistics chains to ensure goods can be sent to customers more quickly and reliably, although nothing has been agreed. Seeking more control over its deliveries, Amazon in March signed a deal to lease 20 Boeing freighter aircraft to handle more of its own deliveries in the United States. Lufthansa Cargo also plans to launch a new "basic" product in the autumn, for customers looking to transport standard shipments at a lower price and will target Lufthansa airline passengers too, offering them the chance to book freight directly, for example to bring their motorbike with them for a foreign road trip.

SCALING BACK Freighter fleets are also increasingly competing with the belly space in passenger planes, as travel demand booms and new planes provide more space in their holds for cargo. Over the past decade, passenger revenues have doubled, while cargo revenues are expected to fall back to where they were 10 years ago. As a result Japan Airlines and Thai Airways have completely stopped operating freighters, as has British Airways-owner IAG , which carries much of its freight on its scheduled passenger services as well as sharing some freighter capacity with Qatar Airways. Others have held on, but continue to feel the impact. "Talking to other airlines they say the current numbers for their cargo business are very tough and their forecasts for the cargo business are also tough as well," Osamu Shinobe, president and CEO of All Nippon Airways , which has a cargo joint venture with Lufthansa, said in Dublin last month. Singapore Airlines cargo division, which has cut its freighter fleet down to nine Boeing 747-400Fs from 17 a decade ago and has plans to cut two more, lost S$50 million ($36 million) in the 12 months to 31 March, up from S$22 million a year before. Meanwhile Lufthansa's cargo arm is in the black, but profits will drop significantly this year from 74 million euros ($83 million) in 2015 and it now plans to cut up to 800 staff worldwide, or about 17 percent of its workforce. It has grounded two McDonnell Douglas MD11 freighters this year and has been reviewing its fleet. Gerber said on Tuesday his freighter fleet was the right size for now but predicted more consolidation, partnerships and joint ventures were likely for the industry. "There's no reason why the industry can't operate a profitable, re-sized cargo business to address the more limited growth in markets, but that takes time to achieve," IATA economist Brian Pearce said. FedEx completed a takeover of TNT in May to better compete with the world's largest logistics company DHL . On the airlines side, partnerships and joint ventures are more common because of foreign ownership restrictions.

FLYING IN DRUGS IATA says that air freight carries one third of global trade by value, but less than 1 percent by volumes transported, as the industry concentrates on added-value time-critical cargoes, such as medicines. Lufthansa, and fast-growing Emirates Airline and Qatar Airways have all invested in facilities to attract pharmaceutical customers, because higher margins can be achieved by providing fast, secure carriage for valuable products requiring temperature-controlled transportation. The pharmaceuticals industry's spending on 'cold chain' logistics increased to an estimated $10.1 billion in 2015, up from $8.4 billion in 2014. But even that market is becoming increasingly tough as the growth of cheaper generics increases the pressure on costs for pharmaceutical companies. In 2013 85 percent of pharmaceuticals goods by volume were transported by air, against 5 percent via ocean, but that is set to change to 65 percent via air and 25 percent via ocean in 2016, according to consultants Beroe. "No one flies freight voluntarily," Gerber said, adding that prices per kilo for air freight tended to be around 20-50 times that of sea freight. "So you can see why people do all they can not to have to send goods via air."

In an exclusive interview with the Irish Independent, Mr Bellew has also said that it's time for the airline to put the two disasters of 2014 behind it. Malaysia Airlines lost two aircraft that year - one that mysteriously went missing over the South China Sea, and another that was shot down over Ukraine. "I don't think you can ever forget," he said. "But I don't think we can dwell on it forever and we need to go forward from there." Mr Bellew, a former Ryanair executive, has taken over as chief executive of Malaysia Airlines from former Aer Lingus boss Christoph Mueller, who finished up at the Asian carrier last week. Mr Bellew joined Malaysia Airlines last year as its chief operations officer. The airline has been losing money for years, but has axed 6,000 of its 20,000 workforce as part of a plan to return it to profitability. Mr Bellew will continue a $1.5bn turnaround plan hatched by him and Mr Mueller. The restructuring of the carrier has been the focus of intense national interest in Malaysia.

At least, that's what you might be led to believe if you followed news reports and social media scuttlebutt about these high-profile tragedies. But the truth is, the man identified as a victim in all three attacks is still alive - and the victim of a ongoing revenge prank by former friends who say he owes them money, France24 reported.
After EgyptAir Flight 804 plunged into the Mediterranean sea on May 19, a now-infamous picture of 'Alfonso' - his real name is unknown - cheerfully grinning in front of a wall of photos began to spread across Twitter. '@EGYPTAIR my brother traveled there,' wrote @sidaxmejicano. 'I'm scared for her (sic) life. Please help me.' The BBC noticed the sick prank and even wrote a story about misleading Tweets. But the following month it happened again, as 'Alfonso' was identified as one of the victims in the massacre at gay club Pulse in Orlando, Florida on June 12. That message can't be found, but his photo appeared in a New York Times memorial video among pics of the real victims in the attack, France24 reported. The video was edited to remove the photo Tuesday.

'Our goal is to ruin his reputation,' they added. 'We want the whole world to recognize his face.' France24 managed to track down the man, whom they left unidentified. He said: 'My photo is everywhere because of someone who started it as a prank after a legal dispute.' He continued: 'Now my photo has appeared in several stories that were widely shared on Twitter. I contacted several media outlets like the BBC and the New York Times and asked them to delete my photo but they never responded.' Under Mexican law, a person can receive a prison sentence of six months to two years for 'slander, calumny and defamation to the prestige of an organisation or the honor or dignity of an individual.' But Alfonso hasn't bothered taking his persecutors to task because he doesn't think there's much point. 'I never reported the people who did this to me because, in Mexico, nothing ever happens in these kinds of cases,' he said. So until the dispute is resolved, 'Alfonso' can expect to see his image cropping up again - and so can he.

Experts will compare information downloaded from the flight data recorder and "establish time correlation" with the information gleaned from the cabin voice recorder, the Egyptian Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee said in a statement. The committee had said Saturday that the memory chips of EgyptAir 804's black box voice recorder are intact and investigators should be able to access them. The Airbus A320 plunged into the sea on May 19 while heading to Cairo from Paris, killing all 66 people on board. Investigators said last week that the plane's wreckage showed signs of fire while the data recorder confirmed smoke alarms had been activated. The plane was carrying 40 Egyptians, 15 French, two Iraqis, two Canadians and one passenger each from Algeria, Belgium, Britain, Chad, Portugal, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.

Congress to vote on extending FAA’s authority through September 2017 Leaders of transportation panels in both houses of the US Congress say they have reached agreement on a bipartisan extension of FAA’s authorization through Sept. 30, 2017. The agreement is expected to be voted on in both the House of Representatives and Senate ahead of FAA’s authority expiring July 15. The accord, endorsed by House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee chairman Bill Shuster (R-Pennsylvania) and Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee chairman John Thune (R-South Dakota)—as well as the ranking Democrats on both committees—brings to an end Shuster’s effort to pass a long-term, transformative FAA reauthorization bill. It also means lawmakers appear willing to allow FAA to operate for multiple years under temporary extensions of its authority, an outcome members of Congress had pledged to avoid after FAA operated under temporary extensions for more than four years before the last reauthorization bill was passed in 2012. That reauthorization expired Sept. 30, 2015, and FAA has been operating under temporary extensions since. The extension to Sept. 30, 2017, mirrors the timeline of the Senate’s FAA reauthorization legislation, but unlike the Senate bill does not officially reauthorize the agency and does not, according to a summary of the extension provided by the relevant committees, contain a number of consumer-protection provisions included in the Senate bill that were criticized by Airlines for America (A4A) for regulatory overreach. However, it is not a ―clean‖ extension; the proposed bill does contain a number of policy provisions, particularly regarding airport security and the regulation of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
2 Two airline consumer provisions are included in the extension, according to the bill’s summary. The extension also calls for an assessment of TSA’s staffing allocation and a redeployment of TSA personnel ―in order to reduce passenger wait times while enhancing security effectiveness.‖ Among the safety provisions is one that would raise civil penalties to $20,000 for unmanned aircraft users who interfere with emergency response activities, including wildfire suppression. ―We look forward to sending this measure to [President Barack Obama] before the July 15 expiration of the FAA’s current authorization,‖ the congressional leaders said in a joint statement. ―Recognizing that this is a [more than] year-long extension, we are also committed to working together on a longer-term reauthorization that includes other important reforms benefiting all passengers and Americans who depend on a safe aviation system.‖
