‫من ٌنقذ مطار القاهرة الدولى من مأساة «‪ 7‬الصبح»؟!‬ ‫◀ مصطفى النجار‬ ‫القرارات السرٌعة بتغٌٌر عدد من قٌادات المطارات ومصر للطٌران هل تكون البداٌة؟‬ ‫وهل ٌتخذ وزٌر الطٌران المدنى الجدٌد القرار الصعب بنقل مكتبه إلى مطار القاهرة؟‬ ‫قبل سنوات طوٌلة كنت أتجاذب أطراف الحدٌث مع الراحل الدكتور ممدوح البلتاجى أحد أشهر‬ ‫وزراء السٌاحة فى تارٌخ مصر حول المشكالت التى ٌعانٌها السائح فى مصر منذ لحظة‬ ‫وصوله مطار القاهرة الدولى ومرورا بمنطقة األهرام األثرٌة والتاكسى وتعامله مع السائح‬ ‫والبازارات ومصائبها وغٌر ذلك الكثٌر‪ ..‬فجأة التفت إلى الدكتور البلتاجى وقال فى صراحة‪..‬‬ ‫تعرف ٌا عزٌزى‪ ..‬إن كثرة ما أتلقاه من مشكالت بسبب سوء معاملة السائح على عكس ما ٌجده‬ ‫هذا السائح فى دولة مثل فرنسا أو إسبانٌا تجعلنى أتخٌل أن مهمتى ومهمة أى وزٌر للسٌاحة أن‬ ‫ٌقف فى مطار القاهرة فى صالة السفر ولٌس االستقبال ـ وأن أحرص على اهداء وردة لكل‬ ‫سائح تعبٌرا عن اعتذارنا عن كل هذه المشكالت التى ال مبرر لها وأرجوه أن ٌعود إلى زٌارتنا‬ ‫وأن «ٌسامحنا»‪.‬‬ ‫إلى هذا الحد وصل الخٌال بالرجل من كثرة «الزعل» من تعرض السائح فى مصر للمشاكل‬ ‫واقتناعا منه بأن أقوى وسٌلة لتسوٌق مصر هى أن ٌعود السائح سعٌدا مبسوطا إلى بلده وبالتالى‬ ‫ستكون عنده الرغبة فى العودة والقدرة على اقناع أهله واصدقائه لزٌارة مصر‪ ..‬أى أننا‬ ‫سنكسب سائحا جدٌدا فضال عن تكرار زٌارة هذا السائح «المبسوط» بدال من أن ٌسافر غاضبا‬ ‫من مصر وٌقرر عدم العودة‪ ..‬وتلك مصٌبة كبرى‪ ..‬ألن تكرارٌة الزٌارة هى التى تجعل السٌاح‬ ‫بالمالٌٌن فى الدول السٌاحٌة الكبرى‪.‬‬

‫‪2‬‬ ‫تذكرت هذا الحوار أحد أٌام األسبوع الماضى وبالتحدٌد الساعة «‪ 7‬الصبح» عندما فوجئت‬ ‫بصوت أحد أصدقائى من كبار رجال السٌاحة وهو ٌصرخ تلٌفونٌا من صالة (‪ )3‬بمطار القاهرة‬ ‫الدولى قائال‪ :‬مصطفى‪ ..‬ما أراه أمامى مأساة‪ ..‬إن أى سائح هنا لن ٌعود مرة أخرى‪ ،‬إن الفوضى‬ ‫وعدم النظام والطوابٌر تمتد إلى نهاٌة الصالة وال أقول خارج المطار وعملٌات التفتٌش وخلع‬ ‫األحذٌة أكثر من مرة‪ ..‬وأخذ الرجل ٌعدد أوجه «المأساة» التى ٌشهدها مطار القاهرة الدولى‬ ‫الساعة «‪ 7‬الصبح» كل ٌوم بسبب شدة الزحام‪.‬‬ ‫قلت له ٌا صدٌقى هون على نفسك‪ ..‬لقد كتبت فى هذا الموضوع أكثر من مرة‪ ،،‬وال حل‪.‬‬ ‫طبعا المشكلة أن جمٌع رحالت مصر للطٌران إلى أوروبا تتجمع فى هذه الساعة أو وصول‬ ‫المسافرٌن ٌكون فى حدود «‪ 7‬الصبح» ألن رحالت لندن وبارٌس وبرلٌن وغٌرها من كل مدن‬ ‫أوروبا تكون فى حدود التاسعة أو العاشرة صباحا ومن هنا ٌأتى الزحام الذى تعقبه الفوضى‬ ‫بالتأكٌد وكل جهة من الجهات التى تعمل بالمطار تلقى بالمسئولٌة على األخرى والنتٌجة هذه‬ ‫المأساة الٌومٌة التى تجعل السائح الذى ٌرى هذا المنظر ال ٌفكر فى العودة إلى مصر مرة‬ ‫أخرى‪.‬‬ ‫وأردف الرجل قائال‪ :‬إن مشكلة صالة (‪ )3‬البد لها من حل خاصة «‪ 7‬الصبح» وأٌضا «‪7‬‬ ‫مساء» عند عودة هذه الرحالت‪ ..‬وأضاف أن هناك مشكلة أخرى ال حل لها منذ افتتاح مبنى‬ ‫الركاب رقم (‪ )2‬فعملٌة الوصول لهذا المبنى مأساة هى األخرى وعدم وجود جراج قرٌب مأساة‬ ‫وصعوبة الحركة فى المنطقة خارج المبنى مأساة‪ ..‬إن عملٌة الجراجات فى مٌناء القاهرة كلها‬ ‫تحتاج إلى إعادة نظر‪ ..‬البد من حل لــ«حوارى جحا» فى مواقف المطار‪ ،‬البد من تخطٌط‬ ‫ٌجعل الحركة أكثر سهولة كما فى كل مطارات العالم أو حتى مطار دبى القرٌب منا والذى‬ ‫ٌستقبل المالٌٌن من البشر أضعاف مطار القاهرة‪.‬‬ ‫ولعلى هنا استبشر خٌرا بوزٌر الطٌران المدنى الجدٌد الفرٌق ٌونس المصرى‪ ..‬فتحركاته‬ ‫السرٌعة على أرض الواقع وزٌاراته التفقدٌة لمطارات القاهرة وشرم الشٌخ والغردقة أعطت‬ ‫للجمٌع انطباعا أنه لن ٌجلس فى المكاتب بل سٌتعرف على المشاكل بنفسه وذلك كان مصدر‬ ‫سعادة لنا ولذلك أنا أدعوه إلى تكرار مثل هذه الزٌارات وإن كنت تحدٌدا أدعوه فورا لزٌارة‬ ‫صالة (‪ )3‬بمطار القاهرة الدولى الساعة «‪ 7‬الصبح» لٌرى بنفسه ما نكتبه الٌوم وٌتعرف على‬ ‫حجم هذه المأساة التى تؤذى سمعة مصر وتجعلنا فى عٌون السائح وكأننا ال نعٌش فى القرن‬ ‫الحادى والعشرٌن ونحبب السائح فى العودة لزٌارة مصر وقبل ذلك تجعل المواطن المصرى‬ ‫فخورا ببلده وبمطار بلده وأنه لٌس أقل من دول أخرى مجاورة سبقتنا كثٌرا أو أن من حق هذا‬ ‫المواطن أن ٌتمتع بخدمات متمٌزة كما ٌحدث له فى مطارات العالم المتقدم‪.‬‬

‫‪3‬‬ ‫بل إننى ال أعتبر نفسى مبالغا ألننى أعرف حجم مأساة «‪ 7‬الصبح» إذ طالبت الفرٌق ٌونس‬ ‫المصرى بأن ٌتابع هذه المشكلة بنفسه ٌومٌا وبالتنسٌق مع وزارة الداخلٌة الطرف األساسى‬ ‫الفاعل فى المطار‪ ..‬بل أكثر من هذا أكاد أقول له «ٌارٌت تنقل مكتبك فى مطار القاهرة رغم‬ ‫إننى أعرف أن مكتبه ال ٌبعد إال خطوات قلٌلة عن المطار‪ ..‬ولكنى أرٌد متابعة ٌومٌة عن‬ ‫قرب لحالة المطار عنوان مصر األول وصورتها األولى أمام السائح التى تخلق االنطباع‬ ‫األول الذى ٌعود به السائح إلى بلده‪.‬‬ ‫إن الزٌارات السرٌعة للمطارات على أرض الواقع ثم بعض القرارات مثل تعٌٌن الطٌار أحمد‬ ‫عادل رئٌسا للشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران وهو من الكفاءات المحترمة بالشركة وكذلك‬ ‫اللواء طٌار طارق فوزى رئٌسا للشركة المصرٌة للمطارات والمهندس أحمد فوزى عبدالعظٌم‬ ‫رئٌسا لمجلس إدارة شركة مٌناء القاهرة الجوى كلها قرارات إٌجابٌة تعطٌنا األمل فى أن‬ ‫قطاع الطٌران المدنى قادر على أن ٌنهض من جدٌد وٌقدم صورة حضارٌة عن مصر‬ ‫العظٌمة‪ ..‬مصر المستقبل‪.‬‬ ‫وأنا هنا ال أقصد بقطاع الطٌران المدنى المطارات فقط ولكن الجناح اآلخر والعنوان األشهر‬ ‫هو الشركة الوطنٌة مصر للطٌران‪ ..‬فهذه الشركة رغم كل ما واجهته من مشاكل خاصة بعد‬ ‫‪ 2011‬فهى شركة ملٌئة بالكفاءات وتستطٌع أن تنافس كبرى شركات الطٌران فى العالم إذا‬ ‫نجحت فى تحدٌث أسطولها فى السنوات المقبلة وزٌادته من خالل صفقة القرن التى أعلنت‬ ‫عنها منذ شهور‪.‬‬ ‫لكن تبقى هنا عالقة المواطن بمصر للطٌران بشأن أسعار الطٌران الداخلى إلى شرم الشٌخ‬ ‫والغردقة واألقصر وأسوان فالجمٌع ٌشتكى من ارتفاع األسعار لدرجة أن التذكرة السٌاحٌة إلى‬ ‫شرم الشٌخ مثال تتخطى ‪ 3‬آالف جنٌه‪ ،‬أى أن أى عائلة مطلوب منها نحو ‪ 15‬ألف جنٌه‪،‬‬ ‫للسفر فقط‪ ..‬هل هذا معقول؟ اعتقد أن هذا الملف ٌحتاج إلى كثٌر من االهتمام على األقل‬ ‫لتنشٌط السٌاحة الداخلٌة‪.‬‬ ‫أخٌرا‪ ..‬سٌادة الفرٌق ٌونس المصرى وزٌر الطٌران المد نى الجدٌد «الملفات كثٌرة لكنى‬ ‫اعتقد أنك قادر على المواجهة والحسم والحل خاصة مشكلة «‪ 7‬الصبح» فى مطار القاهرة‬ ‫الدولى‪ ..‬فلتكن البداٌة وباهلل التوفٌق‪.‬‬

‫وزٌر الطٌران ٌلتقى رئٌس هٌئة األرصاد الجوٌة ورئٌس تحلٌل‬ ‫الحوادث‬ ‫كتبت رحاب نبٌل‬ ‫التقى الفرٌق ٌونس المصرى‪ ،‬الٌوم األربعاء‪ ،‬كل من الدكتور أحمد عبد العال رئٌس الهٌئة‬ ‫المصرٌة لألرصاد الجوٌة‪ ،‬والطٌار أٌمن المقدم رئٌس اإلدارة المركزٌة لتحلٌل الحوادث للتعرف‬ ‫على خطط ومهام هٌئة األرصاد وإدارة تحلٌل الحوادث‪.‬‬ ‫وخالل اللقاء قام الدكتور عبد العال بتقدٌم عرض توضٌحى عن النشاطات والخدمات التى تقدمها‬ ‫الهٌئة فى مجال رصد الظواهر المناخٌة وتقلبات الطقس والتنبؤات بالسٌول وطرق مواجهتها‪.‬‬ ‫وأطلع عبد العال‪ ،‬وزٌر الطٌران على خطة تطوٌر الهٌئة العامة لألرصاد الجوٌة من حٌث األجهزة‬ ‫والمعدات‪ ،‬ووجه الوزٌر بضرورة تقوٌة البنٌة التحتٌة وتعزٌز أنظمة اإلنذار المبكر‪ ،‬مع االعتماد‬ ‫على األبحاث والدراسات المبنٌة على أسس علمٌة واستخدام أحدث األجهزة والتقنٌات التى تواكب‬ ‫التقدم العلمى والتكنولوجى العالمى‪ ،‬وكذا وضع خطط تدرٌب وتأهٌل لرفع كفاءة العاملٌن بمجال‬ ‫األرصاد الجوٌة وتحسٌن مستوى أدائهم من أجل تعزٌز دور الهٌئة فى الحفاظ على األرواح‬ ‫والبٌئة ومقدرات هذا الوطن‪ ،‬مؤكدًا على أن الفرد هو القوام الرئٌسى لقطاع الطٌران المدنى وانه‬ ‫ٌجب االهتمام بتأهٌله فى جمٌع النواحى اإلدارٌة والفنٌة من خالل تبنى مجموعة من اآللٌات‬ ‫لالرتقاء بالعاملٌن بكافة قطاعات الوزارة‪.‬‬ ‫كما استمع ٌونس المصرى‪ ،‬إلى شرح تفصٌلى من الطٌار أٌمن المقدم عن نشاط ومهام اإلدارة‬ ‫المركزٌة لتحلٌل الحوادث حٌث تقوم بإعداد التقارٌر الفنٌة فى التحقٌق بحوادث الطائرات‪ ،‬وتشمل‬ ‫اإلدارة على مراكز ومعامل تحلٌل بٌانات ومعلومات الطائرات والتى تحتوى على أحدث األجهزة‬ ‫التقنٌة والعلمٌة فى هذا المجال‪.‬‬ ‫وفى ختام االجتماع نوه وزٌر الطٌران على أهمٌة وضع خطة تطوٌر أداء اإلدارة المركزٌة لتحلٌل‬ ‫حوادث الطائرات حتى تواكب المستوٌات العالمٌة‪ ،‬موج ًها بمواصلة العمل وسرعة االنتهاء من‬ ‫الخطط الموضوعة لالرتقاء بمجالى األرصاد الجوٌة واإلدارة المركزٌة لتحلٌل الحوادث‪.‬‬

‫مطار القاهرة ٌستقبل أكثر من ‪ 3‬آالف سائح خالل ‪ 24‬ساعة‬ ‫كتب محمد طنطاوى‬ ‫سائحا عربٌا وأجنبٌا‬ ‫شهد مطار القاهرة الدولى‪ ،‬الٌوم األربعاء‪ ،‬وصول ‪ 3‬آالف و‪298‬‬ ‫ً‬ ‫لزٌارة المعالم السٌاحٌة واألثرٌة بالقاهرة الكبرى والمحافظات المصرٌة المختلفة‪.‬‬ ‫وشهد المطار وصول ‪ 102‬رحلة دولٌة وداخلٌة كان على متنها المجموعات السٌاحٌة‪،‬‬ ‫والتى شملت جنسٌات من دول أمرٌكا وبرٌطانٌا وفنلندا وبلجٌكا وروسٌا والصٌن‬ ‫واندونٌسٌا وكرواتٌا وهولندا والٌابان‪ ،‬باإلضافة إلى عدة مجموعات سٌاحٌة عربٌة قادمة‬ ‫من السعودٌة والبحرٌن والكوٌت واإلمارات والعراق‪.‬‬ ‫وقامت سلطات مطار القاهرة الدولً بإنهاء إجراءات وصولهم تحت إشراف مسئولى شرطة‬ ‫السٌاحة بالمطار وتم تأمٌن خروجهم من دائرة المطار حتى مقار إقاماتهم‪.‬‬

Air Freight Growth Continues to Grow Modestly in May, Up 4.2% The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released data for global air freight markets showing that demand, measured in freight tonne kilometers (FTKs), rose 4.2% in May 2018, compared to the same period the year before. This was slightly down from the 5.2% (revised from 4.1%) growth in annual demand recorded in April 2018. Freight capacity, measured in available freight tonne kilometers (AFTKs), grew by 6.2% year-on-year in May 2018. This was the fourth month in a row that capacity growth outstripped demand growth. After a weak start to 2018, demand for global air freight has now resumed a modest trend upwards. However, the rapid growth seen in 2017 is now over, with demand growing at a significantly slower pace in 2018. 2 "We expect air cargo demand to grow by a modest 4.0% in 2018. That's an uptick from a very weak start to the year. But headwinds are strengthening with growing friction among governments on trade. We still expect demand to grow, but those expectations are dampened with each new tariff introduced. Experience tells us that trade wars, in the long run, only produce losers," said Alexandre de Juniac, IATA's Director General and CEO. Regional Performance All regions except Africa reported an increase in growth in May 2018. Asia-Pacific airlines saw freight demand increase in May 2018 to grow 4.9% compared to the same period last year. This was an increase over the 3.9% recorded the previous month. Capacity increased by 7.4%. As the largest freight-flying region, carrying close to 37% of global air freight, the risks from protectionist measures impacting the region are disproportionately high. That said, there are signs that demand is accelerating for international FTK's. North American airlines' freight volumes expanded 5.9% in April 2018 compared to the same period a year earlier. This was an increase in demand from the 4.6% rate of growth recorded the previous month. Capacity increased by 5.4%. The recent momentum of the US economy and the US dollar has helped strengthen demand for air imports. Data from the US Census Bureau shows a 12% year-on-year increase in imports by air in April, compared to 2.4% growth in March.

3 European airlines posted a 2.3% increase in freight volumes in May 2018. This was a slowdown from the 3.5% rate of growth the previous month. Capacity increased 6.0%. Seasonally-adjusted volumes rose slightly over the past two months; however, the annualized rate of growth over the past six months remains low at only 1.5%. Middle Eastern carriers' freight volumes grew 2.4% in May 2018. This was a significant deceleration in demand of over 6.9% the previous month. The decrease mainly reflects developments from a year ago rather than a substantive change in the current freight trend. Seasonally-adjusted freight volumes continue to trend upwards at a comparatively modest pace by the region's standards. This is consistent with signs of a broader moderation in global trade. Capacity increased 3.3%. Latin American airlines experienced growth in demand of 11.4% in May 2018 - the largest increase of any region for the third consecutive month. Capacity increased by 1.5%. The pick-up in demand over the last 18 months comes alongside signs of economic recovery in the region's largest economy, Brazil. Seasonally-adjusted international freight volumes surpassed the May 2014 peak this month. African carriers saw freight demand contract 2.0% in May 2018 compared to the same month last year. Capacity increased by 20.4%. After a surge in international FTK volumes last year, seasonally-adjusted international freight volumes have now trended downwards at an annualized pace of 15% over the past six months. Saudia may place order for Boeing widebody aircraft at Farnborough Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) could order up to 20 Boeing widebody aircraft as early as the Farnborough Airshow in the UK later this month, according to industry insiders. The carrier has been contemplating a widebody aircraft order for years including showing interest in Airbus’ superjumbo A380. However, consensus among the community of aviation industry professionals suggests Saudi Arabia’s national carrier will opt for the new Boeing 777X aircraft and an order could result as early as the Farnborough Airshow in the UK later this month. ―An order is very likely,‖ said Saj Ahmad chief analyst at StrategicAero Research adding that the airline ―is likely to opt for the 777X and snub the A380.‖ Opting for Boeing aircraft ―fits in well from a crewing standpoint‖ said Ahmad, referring to the aircraft’s existing fleet of 777s and 787 Dreamliners. Speculation has been rife about when the order could be made. Some had speculated the order would be announced during Saudi Prince Mohammad Bin Salman’s whirlwind tour of the US in April. Attention has now shifted to the world’s second largest airshow. ―Rumours abound that it'll happen at Farnborough,‖ said Ahmad.

Kuwait Emir launches new airport terminal Kuwait Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah on Wednesday launched a new terminal at the Kuwait International Airport as part of an ambitious plan to boost the country’s air traffic, the official Kuwaiti news agency KUNA reported. The terminal T4 lies in the northern part of the airport on an area of 55,000 square metres. The 14-gate facility is designed to handle 4.5 million passengers annually and pump into the state coffers an additional $60 million, according to KUNA. Addressing the ceremony, Minister of State for Services Affairs, Janan Mohsen, said that Kuwait aims at increasing the airport’s passenger capacity from an annual 7 million at present to 25 million by 2022. Following its launch, Emir Sabah toured different departments of T4. The new terminal is part of the government’s efforts to enhance Kuwait’s air transport system under the ―Kuwait 2035 Vision‖ scheme aimed at turning the country into a regional investorfriendly and trade hub. I 2016, Kuwait’s Civil Aviation Authority signed a $172.3-million contract with two Korean and Kuwaiti companies to construct the terminal. In May, the state agency contracted a South Korean corporation to operate and maintain the facility envisaged to create 2,000 jobs. Kuwait also plans to open a new passenger terminal at the same airport in 2022.

Ethiopian Airlines, Air Tanzania battle for the East Wing Both the Ethiopian Airlines and Air Tanzania are beefing up the competition in aviation sector, seeking to perhaps break the wing of another. East Africa’s aviation sector has seen respective flag carriers make efforts to boost their domain in the region, expanding their businesses and recording great performances in their operations domestically and internationally. The Governments’ efforts have done well to ensure the sector broadens its opportunities by implementing policies. Air Tanzania recently acquired a new craft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner than is believed to be deployed for long distance flights. The company has been on a journey to revive Tanzania’s flag carrier and restore its glory in the sector. Acquisition of more craft to add to its fleet is among its top objectives as it would give the airline options to increase its flights’ frequency and add more routes to its destinations. Having set eyes on the lucrative market of India, the Dreamliner could be the first craft of the company to begin operations to Mumbai from September should plans fall into place. Air Tanzania seeks to venture into the international market and the flight will be its first cross-continent flight. It will be a boost for the country’s tourism sector which has been recording stellar performances over the years, being recognized as a potential competitor in East Africa. Ethiopian Airlines bagged the largest B737 MAX fleet in African continent as it seeks to boost the customer experience. The airline has dominated the African market outpacing Kenya Airways and fellow competitors in the market. The Ethiopian has now 73 Boeing jets under its belt and recently hit a milestone of 100 fleet. GCAA to introduce customer protection directives for airlines The new directives are to help ensure that both operators and passengers are fully aware of their responsibilities and rights in order to contain disagreements that often arise between the two parties. The Director General of the GCAA, Mr Simon Allotey, disclosed in a speech read on his behalf at the inaugural flight of Air Namibia on June 29, this year, in Accra. After some four years absence from the runway and apron at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Air Namibia has made a comeback. On June 29, this year, the Airbus A319-100 landed at KIA. After a successful maiden flight to Accra from Windhoek, the capital of Namibia via Lagos, Nigeria, the airline operator pledged to sustain the new route, which is expected to serve as a direct connection between Southern Africa and West African countries. ―We, however, entreat Air Namibia to ensure passenger rights are duly protected. To this end, the authority will soon issue new customer protection directives to ensure that both operators and passengers are fully aware of their responsibilities and rights,‖ Mr Allotey noted. He said the authority as an industry regulator would provide Air Namibia with all the necessary technical guidelines and the support to ensure safe, secure and sustainable operations on the Accra route. According to him, the authority operates an open door policy and the management of Air Namibia should feel free to contact it promptly for anything related to the regulations.

2 Swift performance

The Managing Director of Air Namibia West Africa, Mr Peter Addai, observed that previously when the airline operated to Accra, it demonstrated swift performance from safety, efficiency and excellent customer service. ―It was, therefore, a sad news when some time in 2014, a decision was taken to suspend operations, such was the impact of Air Namibia that stakeholders stopped asking managers of the airline why they stop operation,‖ he said. He said the second coming of the airline to Accra should not only excite people but rather stakeholders must help sustain the operations going forward. ―Within the past few years when the operations of the airline were suspended to Accra other routes have been added to the network such as Gaborone in Botswana and Durban in South Africa.‖ He noted that this convenient new service operated four times a week (Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from Windhoek) providing a smooth and convenient connections inbound and outbound to the airline’s regional flights, connecting West Africa via Windhoek to and from various destinations. Singaporean aviation firm mulls investing in air taxis in Zambia: official LUSAKA, July 4 (Xinhua) -- An aviation firm from Singapore has expressed interest in investing in Zambia through the provision of air taxis to tourist attraction sites in the southern African nation, a senior official said on Wednesday. Christopher Wong, executive director of Mass Acknowledge Jesus (MAJ) Aviation Management said this would be achieved by using aircrafts that have special water and landing capabilities. The official, who was speaking when Zambia's Ambassador Extra-Ordinary and Plenipotentiary to Singapore Judith Kapijimpanga toured the firm's premises, said the firm's aircrafts were among the safest because they could land on both land and water, according to a statement released by the Zambia embassy. Meanwhile, the Zambian envoy urged the firm to quickly visit the country in order to actualize its plans. She expressed gratitude that the Singaporean firm has excelled in countries where it was operating, adding that services such as landing and taking off from rivers and lakes could attract more tourists to Zambia. Zambia, she said, has put tourism on top of its agenda in driving the country's economic agenda.

Singapore launches initiatives to boost civil aviation industry transformation SINGAPORE, July 4 (Xinhua) -- The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) announced initiatives to collaborate with aviation stakeholders on Wednesday to accelerate the industry's transformation in accordance with the Air Transport Industry Transformation Map. The initiatives are aimed at driving innovation and improving productivity, expanding airport infrastructural capacity, and deepening skills of workers in the aviation sector, in order to enhance Singapore Aviation's competitiveness, according to a statement issued by the CAAS on Wednesday. One of the initiatives is the third Aviation Challenges, which focuses on "Innovation for Seamless Ground Operations" and will allocate an increased funding of 9 million Singapore dollars (about 6.58 million U.S. dollars) to successful applicants who are invited to address Changi Airport's long-term challenges arising from strong air traffic growth. The program is expected to provide greater flexibility and encourage stronger collaboration between end-users and technology providers. Another initiative is related to enabling the innovative uses of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in Singapore's urban environment. The Ministry of Transport and the CAAS will be awarding up to 6 million Singapore dollars to four consortiums who submitted proposals to CAAS' UAS CallFor Proposal (CFP) last November to develop and test UAS working prototypes.

2 Other initiatives include that the CAAS will be topping up the Aviation Development Fund (ADF) by 120 million Singapore dollars and bringing the total to 280 million Singapore dollars; and the CAAS tripartite partners have collaborated to develop the Skills Framework for Air Transport to furthur enhance the potential of workforce. The CAAS also said the new Seletar Airport Passenger Terminal Building will open within this year and will transform operations at Seletar Airport. The airport will increase its passenger-handling capacity to 700,000 a year, about four times the current handling capacity, and significantly improve the experience for passengers travelling through this airport. Once operational, the consolidated turboprop operations at Seletar will connect Singapore to more destinations. Besides the Seletar Passenger Terminal Building, the CAAS said it would continue to make investments in developing the infrastructure at Changi Airport, and upgrade the Air Traffic Management infrastructure. These moves are part of a broader strategy to cement Singapore's position as a premier air hub. Singapore's Senior Minister of State for Transport Janil Puthucheary said the Changi Airport is an important international air hub, and passenger movement it record for the first half of 2018 grew 5 percent year-on-year.

Room for growth: Looking at airport development On 25 June the UK government voted to support the expansion of Heathrow Airport with the construction of a third runway. It is a decision which was hailed as a ―landmark‖ moment by Heathrow bosses, who say the move will ―unlock billion of pounds in growth‖ and create thousands of jobs. Jubilant Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye enthuses: ――Parliament has ended 50 years of debate by deciding that Heathrow expansion will go ahead. This vote will see us deliver more jobs, create a lasting legacy of skills for future generations and guarantee expansion is delivered responsibly. ―We are grateful that MPs have made the right choice for Britain and today we start work to create the best connected hub airport in the world.‖ The decision has drawn a variety of reactions from those within the UK’s aviation industry. Some have hailed the decision to create a hub at Heathrow rather than expanding Gatwick, while others such as Manchester Airports Group (MAG), which owns Manchester, London Stanstead and East Midland airports, have called for more action from the Government. A statement released by MAG argued: ―It is vital for the UK economy that the country has the best possible aviation connections and that means actively supporting airports that can deliver global connections now. Manchester and London Stansted have significant capacity for growth, and we are investing £1.5 billion in new facilities to enable them to drive the UK economy.‖ It is clear that even those within the industry who do not support the expansion of Heathrow recognise the need for better aviation infrastructure in the UK.

New we are involved in the strategy and the thinking and then the planning starts, and this has developed very well.‖ The development of new airports means new retail spaces and new opportunities for innovation and growth within the market. It is an opportunity which has not gone unnoticed in the industry. Heinemann’s name is already attached to possibly the biggest development currently taking place: the construction of the Istanbul New Airport.

Airfreight rates slip in May but bounceback expected for June

Airfreight rates declined in May compared with April levels, but are expected to pick up again in June. The latest figures from consultant Drewry’s monthly Sea and Air Shipper Insight report show that all-in buy rates across 28 east-west routes decreased by 1% compared with April to $2.70 per kg. The month-on-month decline should not come as too much of a surprise as there tends to be a decline between April and May in line with the summer slowdown. However, prices were up on a year earlier when forwarders were paying $2.44 per kg. Prices between May and June tend to be fairly flat, although Drewry this year is predicting an increase, fuelled by the transpacific trade. .
