The airline's board of directors recently approved the deal, according to Daily News Egypt, and an official announcement could come later this week. In addition to the wide-body Dreamliners — which are assembled in North Charleston and Everett, Wash. — EgyptAir plans to buy an unspecified number of Airbus A320neo single-aisle planes. Safwat Musallam, chairman of EgyptAir Holding Co., told the newspaper that the purchases are part of a fleet overhaul in which about 25 planes will be replaced. The Dreamliners would be the first for EgyptAir, although the airline currently has several Boeing 737s and 777s in its fleet. "The order by EgyptAir continues a string of wins for the 787 program of late, after getting the nod from Malaysia Air and Turkish Airlines," Dreamliner analyst Uresh Sheth said on his All Things 787 website. Boeing, which chose North Charleston for its second 787 campus in 2009, is one of the Lowcountry's largest employers, with about 7,000 workers and contractors. The North Charleston campus assembles all three Dreamliner variants including the 787-10, the largest plane in the program. The 787-9 is a mid-sized Dreamliner that can seat up to 290 passengers and fly up to 7,635 nautical miles.

Eurowings and South African Airways work closely together The German airline will supply high-quality feeder flights in the longhaul route network In the future, Eurowings and South African Airways will work closely together. As part of the new relationship, the Star Alliance partner will access the Eurowings route network for feeder flights to its long-haul connections from all over Europe. This means that South African Airways passengers can start their trip to Africa with Eurowings. South African Airways is one of Africa’s most respected airlines. The cooperation has already been launched as an extended interlining agreement. In addition to the cooperation with South African Airways, there are only a few days to go until Eurowings launches a new route of its own to South Africa: The first flight on the route between Cologne/Bonn and Cape Town will take off on 5 November 2017. Bookings for this new intercontinental route are already off to an excellent start. Eurowings starts the offering with high capacity utilisation of its Airbus A330 jets. This shows without doubt that South Africa is one of the most popular long-distance travel destinations for Germans. German passengers are particularly interested in feeder flights to LondonHeathrow and Munich from where they can change to the South African Airways long-haul flights to Johannesburg. South African Airways offers a large number of connecting flights out of Johannesburg, both within South Africa and also internationally. Both airlines are expecting a higher volume of passengers, more comfort and greater flexibility for passengers within the collaborative working relationship. In the context of this cooperation with one of the leading African airlines, Eurowings will also have the chance to open up additional customer groups in the high-end market segment. South African Airways’ passengers will also enjoy maximum comfort on board the Eurowings feeder flights. If they have booked business class for their long-haul flight, they will also travel at Eurowings’ ―Best‖ rate, if this rate is offered on the route selected. Economy class passengers on the longhaul route will fly at Eurowings ―Smart‖ rate which includes a free snack and a seat with more legroom.

In the new schedule, Kenya Airways will discontinue flights to Hong Kong and Hanoi, Vietnam, from October 29, 2017 to optimize its route network. This move will allow Kenya Airways to operate with a better schedule to Asia with a daily flight to Bangkok and Guangzhou. The airline will continue to serve Hong Kong and Hanoi through its partners. This network change will also allow KQ to allocate more seats across its African network where the demand outlook remains strong and capacity insufficient on certain routes. Vincent Coste, Kenya Airways Commercial Director, said: ―This network decision will help Kenya Airways to strengthen its focus on Africa. We will continue to serve our customers to Asia through our direct flights to China and Thailand and work closely with our partners to cover the Asian continent. ―Kenya Airways is constantly assessing its network in order to position its fleet where there is strong demand. With markets’ demand constantly changing, KQ is becoming more agile with this exercise.‖

Oman’s SalamAir to begin fights to Dubai International Oman’s low cost carrier SalamAir has announced it will begin flights from Muscat to Dubai International Airport from next Sunday. The airline will begin serving the route with an A320 from October 8, adding to its existing service to the emirate’s second airport Dubai World Central. All Dubai flights will then be rerouted to Dubai International from October 28. The first flight from Muscat to Dubai International will depart at 9am local time and arrive in Dubai at 10:15am. The return flight will leave Dubai at 12:15pm and arrive in Muscat at 1:30pm, according to the company’s website. Prices start from around OMR50 ($130) for a return flight. SalamAir’s other routes outside of Oman include Duhar, Jeddah, Karachi and Sialkot. The company recently appointed former Air Arabia group director of operations and maintenance Captain Mohamed Ahmed as its new CEO, replacing François Bouteiller.

The A380, operating as flight AF66 and powered by Engine Alliance GP7200 engines, was en route from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Los Angeles Sept. 30 when it diverted to Goose Bay, Canada, following the uncontained engine failure. Pictures and videos posted on social media channels by passengers after the aircraft landed showed extensive damage to the front of the outer starboard engine, on the right wing, with part of its external cowling stripped away. Engine Alliance, a joint venture between GE Aviation and Pratt & Whitney, said in a statement that it is ―working with investigative authorities to assess the situation‖ and referred questions to Air France. Air France told ATW the investigation includes representatives from the French Air Accident Investigation Bureau (BEA), Airbus and Air France. An Airbus spokesperson told ATW, ―Airbus is providing full technical assistance to the authorities in charge of the investigation. An Airbus go team has arrived in Goose Bay.‖ Air France dispatched a leased Boeing 737 to Goose Bay, which carried passengers via Winnipeg, Canada to Los Angeles. A second aircraft, a Boeing 777-300, flew passengers to Atlanta, where SkyTeam partner Delta Air Lines arranged transfers. Air France did not give details on how long it would take to repair the A380 or if other fleet measures would be necessary. AF66 carried 497 passengers and 24 crew members. There have been no injuries reported. Air France has 10 516-seat A380s in its fleet.

Monarch has gone into administration after failing to secure its financial future over the weekend. It is the largest ever UK airline collapse. All future flights have been immediately cancelled, affecting an estimated 300,000 bookings. Shares in other airlines are substantially higher as traders sense an opportunity for other carriers to grow market share on the back of Monarch's collapse. Neil Wilson, a senior market analyst with ETX Capital, says in an emailed statement: "The failure of Monarch is good news for rivals. Shares in Ryanair and EasyJet both rose about 3% in early trading as the market reacted to the news of the demise of Monarch after 50 years in business. IAG and Lufthansa were both about 2% higher." The four airlines which are larger than Monarch — British Airways, easyJet, and Flybe — are publicly traded and have seen shares jump. Jet2 is owned by the AIM-listed company Dart Group. Europe's largest airline by passenger traffic, Ryanair, has also seen big gains on Monday morning. Ryanair is headquartered in Ireland, but listed on the London Stock Exchange.
