السلطات الهولندٌة :تعزٌز إجراءات األمن فً أحد أكبر مطارات

Sharjah Airport passenger numbers rise 11.55% in first half of 2016 The number of passengers travelling through Sharjah International Airport increased by 11.55% in the first half of 2016, the Sharjah Airport Authority said. The airport handled 5.35 million passengers in the six months to 30 June compared to 4.79 million a year earlier, the airport authority said in a statement. Aircraft movements increased by 5.74% to 36,237 compared to 34,270 year ago. The amount of freight handled at the airport in the first half was 92,000 tons. In a statement, the airline said that while it holds a purely financial interest in IAG, the increased shareholding reflects the strength of commercial and strategic ties between the companies and Qatar’s continued support of IAG’s ongoing strategy. Both airlines belong to the Oneworld Alliance. Although Qatar reiterated it might consider increasing its shareholding within the allowable limits for nonEUshareholders, Qatar Airways Group CEO Akbar Al Baker said he does not intend to do so ”unless there are material changes to the current situation.“ European Commission rules require that European shareholders own at least 50 percent of airlines based in the EU. ”The recent market valuation of one of the world’s leading airline groups has provided what we believe is an attractive opportunity to increase our shareholding in IAG,“ said the Qatar statement. IAG’s stock valuation plummeted by more than 30 percent following a British referendum vote to leave the EU on June 23. Qatar raised its stake to 20.01 percent in IAG, which also owns Ireland’s Aer Lingus and Spain’s Iberia and Veuling, by July 28. The strike, scheduled to last until August 2, has now affected more than 150,000 passengers. Although Air France expressed confidence it would meet its revised schedule target for August 1, it warned of last-minute cancellations and the possible need to limit the number of passengers on individual flights on which it cannot field a full cabin crew. Air France has promised affected customers that it will inform them of any cancellations one day ahead of time and allow those holding a reservation for a flight scheduled for between July 27 and August 2 to postpone their trips until between August 3 and August 12. Unions representing roughly half of the striking crewmembers called for the weeklong action after they failed to negotiate an extension to the existing contract, which expires in October. Management wants the extension to last 17 months, while unions leaders have asked for between three and five years. At issue remains pay, work rules and promotion policy. Air France’s last strike lasted from June 11 to June 14, when a pilot walkout cost the airline an estimated ₏40 million ($44 million).

More than a month has passed since the sudden disappearance of EgyptAir Flight 804 from radar screens and its plunge into the depths of the Mediterranean Sea. The Airbus A320 was flying from Paris to Cairo at 37,000 feet when—according to investigators—it turned left, then rolled to the right before falling into the sea, along with its 56 passengers and crew of 10. Initial speculation about a catastrophic midair explosion–possibly caused by an explosive device–has given way to speculation about a number of other possible causes. But no one knows for sure. And no one will know for sure until the black box data—finally retrieved as I write—has been brought to a laboratory and the data analyzed. Unfortunately, at least one of the black boxes appears to have been damaged. At this point, it‘s not known whether the time spent in salt water has done further damage. Until those black boxes are analyzed, the speculation and theories will remain speculation and theories. No one will know whether the disaster was caused by a problem with the crew‘s operation of the aircraft, calling into question EgyptAir‘s training and certification of pilots; whether a problem existed with the Airbus A320, which would make checking the thousands of A320s in worldwide operation prudent; or whether security procedures at Charles de Gaulle Airport or other airports the aircraft operated out of need to be scrutinized for lapses.

Finally, the boxes have been found and recovered, no easy feat from such great depths. And only now can the boxes finally be sent to specialized laboratories capable of deciphering the thousands of parameters recorded by modern flight data recorders and listen to the voices and sounds recorded by the cockpit voice recorder in the final hours of flight. Adding to the challenge of finding the black boxes was the faintness of the batteries‘ pingers at such great depths. Fortunately, the recorders were found before the battery life of the pingers expired; the minimum required life of the batteries is just 30 days. While many batteries last longer than 30 days, if those pingers stop emitting their sounds, finding the black boxes becomes exceedingly difficult. HISTORY REPEATING Of course, this isn‘t the first time in recent memory that a major airliner has vanished in the depths of the ocean floor. No one involved in aviation has forgotten the enduring mystery of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, the Boeing 777 that disappeared from radar more than two years ago. The airliner was on a scheduled flight from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to Beijing, China, with 227 passengers and 12 crewmembers. The aircraft made its last contact with ATC over the South China Sea, deviated from its flight path, crossed the Malaysian peninsula and disappeared from radar over the Andaman Sea. Only one piece of aircraft wreckage—a flaperon—found on Reunion, a small island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Madagascar, has been positively identified as coming from the missing 777. assengers and crew—vulnerable to another tragedy.

And, as with EgyptAir Flight 804, no one will know whether this was an act of terrorism, a suicidal pilot, improper crew training or a fault with the aircraft or one of its systems unless and until the black box data can be retrieved and analyzed. Meanwhile, any problems that could have been immediately addressed by data gathered through a preliminary assessment of black box data have, of course, gone unaddressed. And before MH370 mysteriously disappeared, there was Air France Flight 447, an Airbus A330 on a flight from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Paris in June 2009. When the aircraft failed to make scheduled contacts with ATC on its way to Paris, a search for the aircraft was begun. Within a day, aircraft wreckage and signs of an oil slick were found; but it took almost two full years for the black boxes to be found and recovered from the depths of the ocean floor. During those two years, the French BEA—the equivalent of the U.S. NTSB—was hampered in its ability to determine exactly what had gone wrong to bring down the aircraft in the middle of the Atlantic. Some clues were available from messages sent by the aircraft‘s Acars and examination of the wreckage. Those messages and prior issues with the Airbus A330 and A340 pointed to the pitot tubes and the potential for differing airspeeds at high altitudes in bad weather as a factor in the crash. But without the detailed information retrievable from the flight data recorder, the cause of the accident remained speculative. It took three years from the date of the accident for the French investigators to publish the final accident report.

Agreement on limiting carbon emission in Aviation sector likely: IATA The agreement is likely to be legalised at the 39th Assembly session by ICAO to be held in September-October this year In a major step forward for the environment, the global airline body, International Air Transport (IATA), has claimed that an agreement will be reached on limiting the carbon discharge in the Aviation sector during the forthcoming International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly. A major step was taken at the 38th session of the ICAO Assembly in September 2013, to develop a GMBMs scheme to regulate carbon dioxide outflow from the Aviation sector. IACO has been considering Global Market Based Measures (GMBMs) as a potential means for limiting or reducing carbon release for many years. Michael Gill, the Director for Aviation Environment Resolution at IATA, addressed the Assembly and assured IACO that major steps will be taken in the upcoming meeting. "We are confident that the governments will again show that willingness at the forthcoming ICAO Assembly in September to reach a consensus and an agreement on the issue," he said. However, Gill informed that the procedure will include government participation and the final outcome will largely depend on political affairs. Thus, there is no guarantee until an agreement is signed. "But we do see real engagement from the governments in this process," he added.

The GMBMs scheme will be implemented in an offsetting form, which will require participants to balance the amount of CO2 discharge above an agreed level with the help of carbon emission trading. For proper implementation of the scheme, the Aviation industry has adopted a four-pronged strategy - improved technology, more efficient aircraft operations, infrastructure improvements and properly designed market-based measures (MBM) - to fill any remaining emissions gap. "Offsetting scheme is the fourth pillar of strategy, it's an economic measure to allow us to achieve this carbon-neutral growth target of 2020 where the other three pillars have not quite got us to that target," Michael said. The proposed measure will affect passengers in the form of additional charges from them to recover the imposed tax on flights for the proper functioning of the scheme, aviation experts asserted. The agreement is likely to be legalised at the 39th Assembly session by ICAO to be held in September-October this year. "One of the key aspects of the negotiations of ICAO is to ensure genuine reductions in CO2 emissions across the world and the rules will provide very clear guidance on the types of projects, which will be approved, and the criteria for which the units will be eligible," he added.

Lufthansa Extends Pilot Union Negotiations Deadline Until Aug. 5 Deutsche Lufthansa AG extended a self-imposed deadline by a week to reach a deal with its pilots union to solve a long-running dispute over benefits and wages. Talks between Lufthansa and the Vereinigung Cockpit union will continue until Aug. 5 as not all open issues have been sufficiently discussed, the union said in a statement. The parties won‘t provide details about the status of the talks until then, it said. The airline and the union said in May that they were seeking ―decisive progress‖ on unresolved issues spanning pay to pensions by the end of July following concessions by both sides. Strikes by the union and flight attendants have reduced Lufthansa‘s operating profit in the past two years by a combined 463 million euros ($517 million). The most recent walkout by pilots, in September, was only halted after a court ruled the action illegal. The company said later that it may seek damages from Vereinigung Cockpit for an apparently illegal strike earlier in 2015. Chief Executive Officer Carsten Spohr has made progress in improving labor relations and reining in the company‘s pension deficit, signing contracts withground staff in November and flight attendants last month. Both those deals include a switch away from specifying the magnitude of pensions that retirees receive in favor of just defining the amount the company puts aside for them. Spohr is also trying to reduce spending by curbing benefits, and Lufthansa will cut jobs at its catering, maintenance and cargo units.A deal with the pilots would end a long-running dispute with labor leaders over the Eurowings discount unit‘s widening role at Lufthansa, which in addition to its namesake brand also owns mainline carriers Austrian Airlines and Swiss and a 45 percent stake in Brussels Airlines.

Russia expects Egypt to fulfill air security requirements by end of October: Minister Russia expects that Egypt will be able to fulfill all necessary air security requirements by the end of October, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said Monday. "This depends on them, it's hard to give any sort of promises or forecasts on their behalf. We are making an assessment and believe that these comprehensive conditions might be fulfilled around the end of October," Sokolov told RIA Novosti.

Oman Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines sign codeshare agreement Oman Air and Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) have signed a codeshare agreement covering services between Muscat and four destinations in Saudi Arabia. Effective last June 29, customers were able to book flights through either airline for services between Muscat and Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, or Madinah. Oman Air operates double-daily flights between Muscat and Riyadh, double-daily flights between Muscat and Jeddah, up to two flights per day between Muscat and Dammam and daily flights between Muscat and Madinah. The airline deploys Boeing 737s on services to Riyadh, Dammam and Madinah, whilst B737s, Airbus 300s, and Boeing 787 Dreamliners are deployed on services to Jeddah. Emergency crews examine substance on American Airlines flight PHOENIX (KSAZ) -Phoenix Fire Department crews are checking passengers on an American Airlines flight after they got a hazardous materials call. A spokesperson for the Phoenix Police Department says a cleaning worker found a substance on the plane.
The FAA says all the passengers disembarked from the airplane at Terminal 4's gate B-24. Authorities are investigating what the substance is.
