جنرال إلكترٌك :ملتزمون بوصول "مصر للطٌران" ألعلى معاٌٌر الصٌانة
حنان عز الدٌن وجه شاكر شحرور نائب رئٌس شركة جنرال إلكترٌك الشكر لصفوت مسلم ،رئٌس الشركة القابضة لمصر للطٌران ،والمهندس أبوطالب توفٌق رئٌس مجلس إدارة شركة مصر للطٌران للصٌانة واألعمال الفنٌة. وقال شحرور ،خالل احتفالٌة عمر خٌرت بدار األوبرا لتوقٌع اتفاقٌة تعاون مع مصر للطٌران ،أن شركة جنرال إلكترٌك عملت فً قطاع الطٌران المصري ألكثر من 40عا ًما مع انطالق أولى رحالت طائرة آٌرباص كبٌرا فً المنطقة حتى ٌومنا هذاCF6-50.والمثبت علٌها المحرك A300B4 ،والذي حقق نجاحا ً ً وأضاف أن الحظ حالفهم بتعاونهم مع مصر للطٌران بإعتبارها من أوائل شركات الطٌران وأكبرها فً إفرٌقٌا. ولقد شهد هذا التعاون تطورا مستمرا ،فالعالقة التً بدأت كمورد لمحرك الطائرات على مدار العقود القلٌلة الماضٌة تحولت إلى شراكة قوٌة بٌننا وبٌن مصر للطٌران ،مشٌرا إلى أن أسطول مصر للطٌران ٌضم 80طائرة ذات االنتاج ( CFMتغطً أكثر من 75مدٌنة حول العالم ،وتفتخر جنرال إلكترٌك بأن محركاتها ومحركات مشترك بٌن جنرال الكترٌك و سنٌكما الفرنسٌة % 50لكال منهما) ،مثبتة على حوالً % 60من األسطول المصري. وتابع أن مصر للطٌران للصٌانة واألعمال الفنٌة تعمل منذ سنوات عدٌدة فً مجال صٌانة محركات الطائرات وإصالحها للتأكد من سالمة وصالحٌة أسطول شركة مصر للطٌران للخطوط الجوٌة وعمالئها من شركات الطٌران اآلخر ،مضٌفا أنه باعتبارنا شركة ُمصنعة لمحركات الطائرات ،تشارك جنرال إلكترٌك مصر للطٌران هذا االلتزام للوصول إلى أعلى المعاٌٌر فً مجال الصٌانة واإلصالح لمحركاتنا التً تعمل بتقنٌات وتكنولوجٌا متطورة.

كتبت رحاب نبٌل وصل مطار القاهرة الدولى ،الٌوم الخمٌس ،مجموعة قطع من الحطام عثر علٌها بالقرب من الشواطئ اإلسرائٌلٌة ،قادمة من تل أبٌب داخل بالتأكد A320صندوق لتقوم لجنة التحقٌق الفنى فى حادث الطائرة من أن تلك القطع خاصة بطائرة مصر للطٌران التى سقطت فى مٌاه البحر المتوسط منتصف شهر ماٌو الماضى .وصرحت مصادر بالمطار أن قطع الحطام وصلت على رحلة طٌران إٌر سٌناء القادمة من تل أبٌب داخل صندوق وقام وكٌل نٌابة أمن الدولة العلٌا وكبٌر مهندسى مصر للطٌران بتسلمهاٌ .ذكر أن صندوق آخر وصل القاهرة مطلع الشهر الجارى وكان ٌحتوى على 3قطع حطام تزن نحو 5 كٌلوجرامات وقامت األدلة الجنائٌة بالداخلٌة بتسلمه للبدء فى عملٌة الفحص.

كتب محمد طنطاوى شهد مطار القاهرة الدولى ،تأخٌر إقالع 21رحلة دولٌة ،وواحدة داخلى بفواصل زمنٌة مختلفة، مساء أمس األربعاء ،كان أعالها تأخر إقالع الرحالت المتجهات إلى عمان وبٌروت والبحرٌن .وأفاد مصدر مالحى بالمطار أن التأخٌرات التى سجلت ،كانت ألسباب مختلفة ولٌس للمطار عالقة بها، وكانت معظمها بسبب انتظار إذن اإلقالع من مطارات الوصول ..وأوضح المصدر ،أن رحلة الخطوط الجوٌة اللبنانٌة المتجهة إلى بٌروت ،والخطوط األردنٌة المتجهة إلى عمان ،والخلٌجٌة المتجهة إلى البحرٌن ،سجلت تأخٌرات بلغت نحو ساعة لكل منها ،بسبب وصول الطائرات متأخرة من مطار اإلقالع وانتظار السماح باإلقالع من مطارات الوصول .وأفاد المصدر أن 3رحالت للخطوط السعودٌة تأخر إقالعها بفواصل زمنٌة لم تتعدى الـ 40دقٌقة ،والمتجهات إلى جدة والرٌاض وأبها، بٌنما تأخرت رحلة شركة نسمة المتجهة الى الطائف ،ورحالت المصرٌة المتجهة إلى القصٌم االتحاد المتجهة إلى أبو ظبً ،والعمانٌة المتجهة إلى مسقط ،وآٌر كاٌرو المتجهة إلى سوهاج ،ورحلة اإلماراتٌة المتجهة إلى دبى ،ورحلتى النٌل المتجهتٌن إلى والقصٌم وتبوك ،ورحلة القطرٌة المتجهة إلى الدوحة ،وشركة فالى ناس المتجهة إلى الرٌاض ،ورحلة الجزٌرة المتجهة إلى الكوٌت ،ورحلة شركة بدر المتجهة إلى الخرطوم.

بارٌس (أ ش أ) واصل مضٌفو شركة الخطوط الجوٌة الفرنسٌة "إٌر فرانس" ،الٌوم الخمٌس ،إضرابهم للٌوم الثانى على التوالى ،ما أسفر عن إلغاء المزٌد من الرحالت وتضرر عشرات اآلالف من الركاب، بحسب إدارة الشركة .وصرح متحدث باسم "إٌر فرانس" بأن الشركة قامت الٌوم بتسٌٌر %80 من رحالتها مقابل %83أمس األربعاء ،مشٌرا إلى تأثر 30ألف راكب من إجمالى 140ألفا. وندد رئٌس مجلس إدارة مجموعة "إٌر فرانس -كى إل إم" جون مارك جاناٌاك ،بإطالق إضراب طوٌل خالل وقت الذروة فى موسم الصٌف ،واصفا هذه الحركة االحتجاجٌة بالمؤسفة والعدوانٌة. وشهد مطار " َر َواسِ ً" وحده إلغاء 163رحلة من إجمالى 516على جدول الشركة الٌوم ،وهو ما ٌعادل 32%من الرحالت ،أما مطار "أورلً" فقد سجل إلغاء 59من إجمالى 171رحلة ،وفقا لمصادر مطلعة .من جانبها ..أفادت النقابتان الرئٌسٌتان اللتان دعتا لإلضراب بأن نسبة المشاركة الٌوم بلغت ،36%وحذرتا من تصاعد الحركة االحتجاجٌة .ومن المقرر أن ٌستمر اإلضراب حتى الثانى من أغسطس إذ ٌسعى المضربون إلى حمل إدارة الشركة على تمدٌد االتفاق المنظم لقواعد العمل واألجور إلى ما ال ٌقل عن ثالث سنوات ،بدال من 17شهرا كما تقترح الشركة ،وذلك للحصول على قدر من االستقرار فى عملهم ،علما بأن هذا االتفاق سٌنتهى العمل به فى 31أكتوبر المقبل.

جنٌف فى ٌ 29ولٌو /أ ش أ/ صرح أحمد همامى مدٌر مكتب شركة مصر للطٌران فى جنٌف بأن رحلة مصر للطٌران رقم 772والتى كان من المقرر أن تغادر جنٌف فى الثالثة بعد ظهر الٌوم الجمعة بتوقٌت جنٌف وتأخرت لمدة 7ساعات قد أقلعت بالفعل متجهة إلى القاهرة وعلى متنها 121راكبا .وقال همامى -فى تصرٌح خاص لوكالة أنباء الشرق األوسط -إن التأخٌر جاء جراء أعمال صٌانة تطلبت تغٌٌر قطعة غٌار لم تكن موجودة فى مطار جنٌف وتم إحضارها من مدٌنة زٌورٌخ .وأضاف همامى أن ركاب الطائرة والذٌن انتظروا فى مطار جنٌف كانوا عند قدر المسئولٌة وتفهموا تماما أسباب التأخٌر وبرحابة صدر فى الوقت الذى قامت فٌه الشركة بتوفٌر كافة وسائل الراحة سواء من حٌث تقدٌم الطعام والشراب أو توفٌر مكان مرٌح لوجودهم بالمطار حتى االنتهاء من أعمال الصٌانة المطلوبة .وأكد همامى أن ما قام به مكتب مصر للطٌران فى جنٌف بتعلٌمات من الشركة الوطنٌة ٌتوافق مع أعلى المعاٌٌر الدولٌة التى تتخذ ألجل راحة الركاب فى مثل تلك الظروف.

وزٌر الطٌران المدنً والنائب العام ٌصالن مطار القاهرة قادمٌن من روسٌا
وصل مطار القاهرة الدولً ،منذ قلٌل ،وزٌر الطٌران المدنً شرٌف فتحً ،والنائب العام المستشار نبٌل صادق ،والطٌار أٌمن المقدم رئٌس لجنة التحقٌقات فً حادث سقوط الطائرة الروسٌة فوق سٌناء ،قادمٌن من موسكو ترانزٌنت األردن على متن الخطوط األردنٌة وكان فً اسقباله المهندس إسماعٌل أبو العز رئٌس الشركة القابضة للمطارات والمالحة الجوٌة والمستشار النائب العام . وقام الوفد المصري بعرض آخر نتائج التحقٌقات ،باإلضافة لطرح إجراءات تأمٌن المطارات المصرٌة والتأكٌد على أن األوضاع األمنٌة مستقرة فً البالد لتشجٌع موسكو على إعادة حركة الطٌران بٌن البلدٌن. وأكدت مصادر مطلعة ،أن النائب العام المستشار نبٌل صادق ،عرض مجموعة من الوثائق المرتبطة بتطورات التحقٌق ،بٌنها تقرٌر عن أسباب نقل التحقٌقات من النٌابة العامة إلى نٌابة أمن الدولة العلٌا ،عقب توصل فرٌق التحقٌق إلى وجود شبهة جنائٌة وراء الحادث. وكان وزٌر الطٌران المدنً المصري الطٌار شرٌف فتحً سافر منذ أٌام وقبلها زار روسٌا منذ أسابٌع فً زٌارة وصفها البعض بأنها تمهد لعودة السٌاحة الروسٌة إلى مصر وذلك من خالل التشاور مع الجانب الروسً وعرض االحتٌاطات األمنٌة التً وضعتها مصر.

تأجٌل دعوى شركة «مكسٌم» لالستثمار ضد وزٌر الطٌران لـ 14أغسطس قضت محكمة استئناف االقتصادٌة ،بتأجٌل نظر الدعوى المقامة من شركة "مكسٌم" لالستثمار العقاري ضد وزٌر الطٌران المدنً ،وشركة مٌناء القاهرة الجوي ،والشركة القابضة للمطارات ،لجلسة 14 أغسطس المستندات. وكانت شركة "مكسٌم" تقدمت على مزاٌدة علنٌة تابعة لوزارة الطٌران المدنً ،بشأن إشغال واستغالل قطعة أرض مساحتها 187ألف متر بالمنطقة االستثمارٌة المحٌطة بمطار القاهرة الدولً ،إلنشاء مشروع استثماري مكون من "بحٌرة صناعٌة ٌتخللها أربع جزر ،ومطاعم، ومنتجع صحً ومنطقة تجارٌة أوروبٌة ومنتجع تاٌالندي ومركز ترفٌهً ،وعدد من الموالت. وأضافت الدعوى أن الشركة المدعٌة اكتسحت كافة العروض المقدمة على األرض ،بقٌمة 7ملٌارات جنٌه ،مستحقة لصالح الدولة ،وتم إسناد تخصٌص قطعة األرض إلٌها ،لكنها فوجئت بعدة عراقٌل من قبل وزارة الطٌران المدنً ،تمثلت فً استقطاع مساحة من األرض إلنشاء كوبري سٌارات أعلى طرٌق "القاهرة -السوٌس" ،وهو ما أدى المتناعها عن التوقٌع على ترخٌص اإلشغال واالستغالل الخاص بقطعة األرض. وطالبت الشركة فً دعواها رقم 23696لسنة 70قضائٌة ،ضد وزارة الطٌران المدنً والشركة القابضة للمطارات ،بإٌقاف المزاٌدة العلنٌة على ذات قطعة األرض من قبل الوزارة ،لحٌن الفصل فً التظلم المقام منها ،بوقف القرار الصادر بإلغاء أمر إسناد قطعة األرض إلٌها.

Air France cabin crew strike enters third day
Air France is bracing for a third day of industrial action among its cabin crew on July 29, although it is expecting to maintain more than 80% of flights. The walkout over a new collective agreement began on July 27 and is expected to run until Aug. 2. On the first day of the action, Air France was expecting to operate at least 87% of its flights, followed by 80% on day two. The French carrier has said operations are running in line with forecasts. ―On Friday, July 29, 2016, Air France expects to operate more than 90% of its long-haul flights, 85% of its domestic flights and 75% of its medium-haul flights to and from Paris-CDG, considering that 37% of cabin crew are expected to take strike action on Friday,‖ Air France said. This 37% comprises 39% on long-haul and 33% on medium-haul routes. Air France warned there may be last-minute cancellations and delays. Passenger numbers could also be limited on some services.

Malaysian authorities denied this was the case, while the Aust-ralian Transport Safety Bureau, said in a statement: ―The inform-ation shows only the possibility of planning ... it does not reveal what happened on the night of the aircraft‘s disappearance, nor where the aircraft is located.‖ But the centre, in an email, said that ―the MH370 captain‘s flight simulator showed someone had plotted a course to the southern Indian Ocean‖. It comes as Transport Minister Darren Chester said the latest piece of debris found, in Tanzania, was ―highly likely‖ to be from the missing flight. He said the underwater search was continuing about 2600km west of Perth. ―We remain hopeful that the aircraft will be located in the -remaining search area,‖ he said.

Class action takes aim at United Airlines‘ checked baggage policy HONOLULU (Legal Newsline) - A class action lawsuit has been filed against United Airlines over its alleged failure to disclose its checked baggage policy that, plaintiffs argue, maximizes ―unaccompanied suitcases‖ on its passenger flights and, in turn, puts passengers at risk. Plaintiff Kathleen M. Watson, of Hawaii, filed her 60page complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Hawaii July 20. Watson, the class plaintiff, is joined by Barton M. Watson, a Honolulu attorney who is also representing Kathleen Watson and the proposed class in the action. According to the complaint, Kathleen Watson was the lead plaintiff in a prior successful airline fraud lawsuit. That suit, brought in the late 1970s, mirrored a similar suit brought by Ralph Nader, the five-time candidate for President. Nader, known for his consumer activism, brought a lawsuit against 19 different airlines in 1976. He accused the airlines of fraudulent misrepresentation. He argued the airlines failed to disclose their policies of deliberately overbooking flights. ―Class Plaintiff is well qualified to represent the proposed class plaintiffs herein as this action is very similar to Class Plaintiff‘s prior successful airline fraud suit,‖ the complaint states. ―Both cases are airline fraud by omission cases.‖

Kathleen Watson argues that unaccompanied suitcases have led to the downing of large passenger airplanes. ―Increasing the amount of ‗unaccompanied suitcases‘ on passenger airplanes is obviously not in the best interests of the safety of the airline passengers,‖ she explained, pointing to the 1988 Lockerbie Boeing 747 downing and a jumbo jet 747 that was downed by an unaccompanied suitcase in 1985. The plaintiff contends that United, which is based in Chicago, has an undisclosed checked baggage policy that maximizes the unaccompanied suitcases on each departing passenger flight to increase the room available for ―more profitable‖ nonpassenger, last-minute express air cargo on later departing passenger flights. Under the policy, the plaintiff alleges, the goal is to not put the passenger‘s checked bag on his flight with him, but, essentially, to automatically make every passenger‘s checked bag an unaccompanied suitcase on a second earlier departing plane. ―Under the United Airlines undisclosed checked baggage policy that maximizes ‗unaccompanied suitcases‘ on its passenger flights, it appears that, a person could simply look up two of its flights to the same destination three or four hours apart, buy a ticket for the later flight and check in his suitcase early )with the earlier flight(,‖ Watson‘s complaint states. ―Then, under its undisclosed checked baggage policy that maximizes ‗unaccompanied suitcases,‘ that person‘s checked bag will not be put on his later flight, but will automatically become an ‗unaccompanied suitcase‘ on the earlier departing flight. After checking in his suitcase, the person simply leaves the airport.‖

By the time it‘s realized the person did not board his later flight, that earlier departing flight -- with the person‘s ―unaccompanied suitcase‖ -- has been airborne for well over an hour or more, the plaintiff alleges. Watson contends United‘s policy has enabled it to make added profits from increasing the non-passenger air cargo it carried on its passenger flights. ―By Defendant United Airlines‘ introduction of its undisclosed checked baggage policy that maximizes ‗unaccompanied suitcases‘ it was able to place more non-passenger air cargo on its passenger flights and, thus, add larger air cargo profits from its passenger flights, to its already huge profits from checked baggage fees and other such ancillary passenger fees -- it had more than $5.7 billion in yearly revenue in 2013 from its checked baggage fees and other such ancillary passenger fees -- the highest of any airline and over twice that of any other airline,‖ the complaint states. She argues that United‘s policy jeopardizes the safety of its passengers, and that it isn‘t mitigated because all checked bags are supposed to be properly inspected for explosives by the Transportation Security Administration. ―No explosive detection system is perfect in real world situations,‖ the plaintiff noted. ―As United Airlines is well aware, the TSA inspections of checked bags for explosives is very far from perfect and has been determined to be seriously deficient in many ways by the findings of the Office of the Inspector General, as reviewed below.‖

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia X pilots on board flight D7 206 received clearance for take off from Coolangatta airport in Queensland on July 21 and followed the flight path according to the heading and altitude instructed by Air Traffic Control. In a statement issued in response to its near mid-air collision with Jetstar, AirAsia X confirmed that the pilots received warning from the traffic collision avoidance system. ―The crew responded immediately to the advisory by reducing the vertical speed according to procedures that they are trained for and the aircraft continued its journey safely without any subsequent events. ―The investigation is being led by the Air Transport Safety Bureau and AirAsia X is cooperating fully,‖ it added. The incident happened on Thursday morning after the aircraft took off from the Gold Coast. It was reported that the AirAsia X aircraft came within 152 metres of a Jetstar flight that was about to land, causing alarms to sound in both planes‘ cockpits. The aircraft will enter service between 2017 and 2018, says Allegiant. They will be powered by CFM International CFM56 engines. Allegiant chief executive Maury Gallagher says the new aircraft order "should not be seen as a change in our fundamental strategy". Airbus "We have always looked at building our fleet opportunistically, and this agreement is no exception. With Airbus preparing to transition production of its current engine option models to new engine option models, we were able to negotiate an order for twelve end-of-line slots," he adds. With the new order, Allegiant has 77 Airbus aircraft in service or committed for future delivery. The ultra low-cost carrier had previously purchased only used A320s. Allegiant is in the process of transitioning to an all-Airbus fleet by 2019 from its fleet of Boeing MD-80s. It also operates a small fleet of Boeing 757s which are being phased out. The carrier plans to operate 33 Airbus aircraft by end-2016, comprising 16 A320s and 17 A319s. It will have a total inservice fleet of 85 aircraft in end-2016. Cebu Pacific orders more A330s Philippines-based carrier Cebu Pacific is ordering another pair of Airbus A330-300s. Airbus has confirmed the agreement, without giving details on delivery times. The airline, which is stationed in Manila, already operates six of the type. Cebu Pacific chief executive Lance Gokongwei says the aircraft has "proven to be the right choice" for its long-haul, low-fare services. ―The newly ordered aircraft will enable us to add more long haul routes, including the launch of our first flights to the USA." No engine selection has been disclosed, but Cebu Pacific's current A330s are all fitted with Rolls-Royce Trent 700 powerplants. Cebu Pacific had indicated in June that it was looking to take another two A330s, possibly for routes to Honolulu and the Middle East region.

The Netherlands Ministry of Defence has notified Parliament of the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Luxembourg to proceed with the acquisition of a pooled fleet of Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (A330 MRTT) aircraft, and the signing of a contract paving the way for the delivery of two aircraft with options for up to six more when, as expected, other nations join the grouping. The contract also covers two years of initial support. Discussions are underway at various stages with Belgium, Germany, Norway and Poland with a view to those nations also participating in the programme, known as the Multinational MRTT Fleet (MMF) initiative.

Moroccan Airports registered a 0.31% increase in passenger traffic during the first half of 2016, recording 8,289,475 passengers compared to the same period of 2015. Mohammed V International Airport recorded 3,832,548 passengers (+2.33%), Rabat- SalĂŠ International Airport recorded 409,077 passengers (+25.04%) and Tangier Ibn Battouta International Airport recorded 359,719 passengers (+9.35%). During the first half of 2016, aircraft movements at Moroccan airports totaled 74,793 movements, up 1.31% compared to the same period of 2015. Freight volumes during the first six months at Moroccan airports increased by 11.55% over the same period of 2015 reaching 34,689.13 tons; against 31,096.76 tons in H1 2015.

Morocco and Cambodia initialed, on 25 July 2016 in Rabat, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to reinforce technical cooperation in the field of civil aviation. By virtue of this MoU, signed by Head of Civil Aviation in Morocco, Mr. Khalid Cherkaoui and Secretary of State in charge of civil aviation in Cambodia, Mr. Mao Havannall, the two parties decided to allow for the operation of 7 weekly flights, and allow air carriers designated by both countries to operate passengers and cargo flights. They also agreed to avoid double taxation, and enhance the possibility of trade cooperation between air carriers in both countries. Under the agreement, which covers the areas of training, maintenance and ground handling services, Morocco will provide its assistance and expertise to the Cambodian Civil Aviation Authority which will be audited by the end of 2016 by ICAO.

atwonline.com Japan Airlines reports 55% profit drop for June quarter Japan Airlines (JAL) saw its net profit decline 55% to ¥14.7 billion yen ($143.6 million) in the three months through June 30, partly because of earthquakes in Kyushu and weakness in many global markets. Revenue fell 4.8% to ¥297.2 billion during the fiscal first quarter, and operating profit was down 39% to ¥22 billion. Despite these drops, JAL has not changed its guidance of a profit of ¥192 billion for the full fiscal year. The carrier highlighted the ―sense of uncertainty‖ in the British and European economies following the UK‘s vote to leave the European Union. JAL said it also sees weakness in emerging markets in Asia, in addition to China‘s economic slowdown. On the domestic front, earthquakes in the Kyushu region in April have caused a decline in tourism. JAL reduced capacity to meet the lower demand, mainly on routes to Kyushu from Tokyo‘s Haneda Airport. Kumamoto Airport was closed or restricted following the quakes. These were factors in the carrier‘s overall domestic capacity dropping 2.6% year-on-year. JAL did add some non-scheduled flights to aid recovery efforts in the aftermath of the earthquake, mainly between Kagoshima and Fukuoka to replace damaged ground transport links in Kyushu. The carrier also offered special fares to Kyushu and free transport for volunteer groups and relief supplies. Cargo operations were once again a headache in the quarter. International cargo traffic dropped 4.1%, and revenue fell 32.6% to ¥9.9 billion. Domestic cargo traffic dropped 3.8%, with revenue down 4.7% to ¥5.4 billion.
atwonline.com Singapore Airlines nearly triples 1Q net profit The Singapore Airlines Group has reported a 2016-17 first-quarter net profit of S$256.6 million ($190 million), nearly tripled from a S$91.2 million net profit in the year-ago period ended June 2015. The result was partially driven by a 4.4% drop in Group expenditure to S$3.46 billion for the 1Q 2016 period. However, the carrier warned that ―the business outlook remains challenging amid economic weaknesses and geopolitical concerns in some markets.‖ It also said that competition remains ―intense‖ and that pressure on yields is likely to continue. Although non-fuel costs for the Group rose during 1Q 2016 because of capacity expansion at subsidiaries Scoot and SilkAir, the Group saw a 28% drop in fuel year-over-year. For the Group‘s flagship Singapore Airlines )SIA( division, first-quarter operating profit rose S$89 million to S$197 million, an 82.4% rise. Full-service regional subsidiary SilkAir showed a five-fold increase in operating profit, from S$5 million in 1Q 2015 to S$27 million in the 2016 first quarter. Low-cost carrier (LCC) offshoot Scoot returned a 1Q operating profit of S$1 million compared to a S$20 million loss in the year-ago period. In terms of passenger load factors, SIA reported a slight drop for the quarter, down 0.5% to 75.8% partly due to increased capacity on the carrier‘s fleet. This—and a 3.7% drop in yield—led SIA to report an overall revenue decline of S$112 million compared to the previous year‘s quarter, to S$3.65 billion, a 2.1% decline. Cargo revenue was also down, with a S$60 million drop leading to an operating loss for the division of S$34 million compared to a S$9 million loss in the same period in the previous year. The group said its balance sheet remains ―strong‖ and will enable it to ―weather many challenges ahead‖ as it expands its fleet with the delivery of 11 new Airbus A350-900 XWB aircraft by the end of FY201617. ―These [aircraft] will offer [us] new opportunities to grow long-haul operations, and further strengthen the Singapore hub,‖ it said.
