YOUR ESSENTIAL ROUND-UP FOR THE WEEK COMMENCING 11 May 2026
This Week’s Headlines:
We are now into our first full week of GCSE and A-Level examinations, and I would like to wish the very best of luck to all of our pupils who have been working so diligently in preparation. Your commitment and resilience have been impressive, and we are incredibly proud of the effort you have shown.
I would also like to extend my good wishes to the rest of the school community as they prepare for their end-of-year examinations next week. This is an important opportunity to demonstrate progress and achievement, and I encourage all pupils to approach the week with focus and confidence.
Finally, a heartfelt thank you to the FOST team for organising what promises to be a fantastic Summer Festival. We are very grateful to all of the staff and volunteers who have offered their time to support the event. We hope it will be a great success and that the weather stays kind to us!
Have a lovely weekend

BOARDING
Our boarders enjoyed a fantastic trip to Bath along with Mrs Wragg and Driver Lucy. The girls showed great enthusiasm and curiosity as we made our way to the Roman Baths. They really enjoyed taking in the history and exploring such an iconic site.
After a cultural start to the day, it was clear what was next on the agenda shopping! The girls were in their element, and we spent the rest of the afternoon browsing the shops, followed of course by plenty of well-earned food and treats. It was lovely to see them so relaxed, happy, and enjoying each other’s company.
Looking ahead, we are excited for this coming weekend as it’s the last one before half term We’re planning to fill it with plenty of fun, laughter, and opportunities for the girls to unwind and make even more happy memories together.
GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP TO DORSET
On Wednesday 6 May 2026, 29 Year 10 Geography pupilss travelled to the PGL centre at Osmington Bay for a threeday Geography field trip.
Our journey began with a stop at Barton-on-Sea, where pupils were able to observe coastal defence strategies in action and develop their understanding of how coastal erosion is managed We then continued to Studland Beach, where we had lunch accompanied by some particularly opportunistic seagulls before consolidating our knowledge of sand dune formation and management A walk along the headland provided excellent views of Old Harry Rocks, allowing pupils to link classroom learning to real-world landforms
UKMT JUNIOR MATHEMATICAL CHALLENGE 2026
Congratulations to our Year 7 and Year 8 pupils who recently took part in the UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge 2026 This national competition encourages mathematical reasoning, precision and creative problem-solving, giving pupils the opportunity to test themselves against challenging and unfamiliar questions.
A total of 28 pupils represented the school, with 17 pupils from Year 7 and 11 pupils from Year 8 taking part. Their hard work and enthusiasm were reflected in an excellent set of results
We are delighted to share that 6 pupils achieved Silver awards, including 5 from Year 7 and 1 from Year 8. A further 7 pupils achieved Bronze awards, with 5 from Year 7 and 2 from Year 8 earning this recognition. In addition, three pupils achieved the prestigious “Best in School” award, each finishing just one mark away from a Gold award - an outstanding accomplishment that shows their current achievements and future potential
These achievements are a fantastic reflection of the pupils’ determination, resilience and enjoyment of mathematics. Well done to everyone who participated and represented the school so positively.
U13 CRICKET
The U13s kicked off their Surrey Cup campaign last Friday with a close match against Downsend. Downsend posted 175/6, with one batter retiring on 50, but the highlight of the innings was Rachel’s outstanding hat trick in the final over.
Chasing a tough total, Rachel and Lilia‑Anna both retired on 52, giving us real momentum. Amelie added a determined 15, but we finished just 12 runs short on 163/5. Despite the loss, it was a competitive, confidence boosting performance.
The U13A & B teams produced a fantastic evening of cricket this week. Both teams were outstanding in the field, showing great energy, sharp backing up and some excellent catching throughout the matches. The commitment and communication on display reflected the hard work the players have been putting in at training, with everyone contributing to the team effort
With the bat, there were confident and composed performances across both squads. Several batters played with real maturity, balancing attacking shots with sensible cricket to guide their teams to strong totals.
The fielding efforts proved just as important, with tight bowling supported by excellent work in the field to keep the opposition under pressure. The enthusiasm and encouragement from teammates on the boundary created a brilliant atmosphere and demonstrated the strong team spirit within both squads.
Congratulations to all players involved on two well-deserved wins and a superb evening of cricket.
This Week A reading from the Acts of the Apostles
As they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were still staring into the sky where he had gone, suddenly two men in white were standing beside them, and they said, “Why are you men from Galilee standing here looking into the sky? Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven, this same Jesus will come back in the same way as you have seen him go there.”
Reflection
The Ascension of Jesus is not about absence, but presence transformed Christ does not abandon his disciples; rather, he enters fully into the glory of the Father so that his saving presence may extend to all places and all times.
When Jesus ascends, he completes his earthly mission, but he entrusts its continuation to the Church. The disciples are told not to remain gazing at the sky, but to return to Jerusalem and wait for the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Ascension therefore marks a turning point: from being followers who watch, to disciples who are sent
Let us pray.
Lord Jesus Christ,
Lift our hearts beyond fear and doubt. Strengthen us to be your witnesses in the world, bringing hope where there is despair, truth where there is confusion, and love where it is most needed. Send us your Holy Spirit, that we may continue your mission with courage, and live each day with our eyes fixed on heaven and our hands ready to serve We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Horse welfare
Other regular checks that our horses have at STE are visits from the dentist, chiropractor, physiotherapist and farrier. We also have the horses weighed to ensure they are a healthy weight. When they were last weighed, some of the Senior students came to learn more about what the process involves.
Model horses
The horses enjoyed being models last week when Delasalle Saddlery came in to carry out a photoshoot using our horses for an article in Pony Magazine. We think Red looked very handsome with his plaited mane.
A proper saddle check is an essential part of responsible horse ownership. A poorly fitting saddle can cause pain, muscle damage, and behavioural problems, affecting both the horse’s comfort and performance. Regular saddle checks help ensure even weight distribution, freedom of movement, and overall wellbeing, allowing the horse to work happily and safely.
All the ponies/horses at STE have regular saddle checks and were delighted to be models for the day.
