YOUR ESSENTIAL ROUND-UP FOR THE WEEK COMMENCING 19 January 2026

Week’s Headlines:

EFFINGHAM TRUST UPDATE

In September 2023, Manor House School joined the EST partnership, forming a powerful educational triumvirate After careful consideration the governors have taken the decision to combine the two senior schools for girls on the St Teresa’s site, which enables the development of the Prep School on the beautiful 18-acre Manor House site. This will considerably enhance the opportunities for the youngest children and the Prep-aged girls within our partnership.

At the same time, following parental demand, we will re-establish the Nursery for boys and girls at Cranmore whilst retaining the co-ed nursery at Manor House . This will make it easier for parents to access our excellent Nursery provision across a broader area.

HEAD GIRL LEGACY PROJECT

On Thursday, our Head Girl team led their Legacy Project to create a time capsule, marking a reflective and meaningful moment.

The event was more than a history lesson or a tour of the school’s cellar; it served as a reminder that everyone is part of something bigger than just their own cohort. As they explored the school and reflected on our history, they were reminded that many girls before them had stood in the same places, experiencing similar worries about exams, friendships and future plans. Although times have changed, the feelings remain the same, which was both reassuring and comforting.

The time capsule captured a snapshot of this moment in time. Filled with items representing shared memories, humour, opinions and experiences, it reflected what mattered most to them.

BUDDING ENGINEERS

Year 8 pupils have been designing and building wind turbines in science lessons this week.

It’s been great to see the imaginative and practical ways they engineered solutions to the challenge of using wind power to lift a cup of water.

WATER POLO

St Teresa’s and Effingham Sixth Form students went head to head on Wednesday in an exciting waterpolo game!

Profile of an Equestrian Prefect

I got into riding in 2021, due to Covid-19 My mum was looking for a way for me to spend some time outside, which was harder to do at the time As my dad had been involved in riding we were able to join a family friend’s livery yard.

The first horse I owned was called Griff He was a school master, meaning he was a bit older and always looked out for me. He taught me everything I know and built my self confidence very quickly. He was incredible, still competing in National shows in his early twenties. Not only was he an amazing horse to ride, he was also very caring He would love a hug and would always want treats

My first competition was in 2022. I remember being extremely nervous but Griff took great care of me and we ended up winning a rosette.

What is the best thing about riding for you?

I love how innocent and gentle horses are. They can immediately make me feel grounded and calm me down whenever I am stressed

What have you done so far in the role?

What made you apply for the Equestrian Prefect role?

Since I had mainly been part of the St Teresa’s equestrian competition team outside of school, I really wanted to get more involved with the equine community within school. The prefect role has allowed me to do this. I have met girls from many different year groups and have got to know them through their love for horses

I have set up an Equestrian Lunch Club with a lot of help from Tess, the Equestrian Centre Manager. It has had very positive feedback and is well attended. Students with no prior experience are able to spend time with the horses and learn more about them and a little about horse care

I am always happy to answer any questions anyone may have about equestrian opportunities at the school, so please do reach out.

This Week

This week we focus on Peace. A reading from the Gospel of Matthew

Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him

The Beatitudes

And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Reflection

As we turn on the news we can often be confronted with a world that is not at peace with itself. A world that is broken and full of disorder. Yet Jesus reminds us that God comes into our world to reorder it back to the good, back to God. Our human hearts are made for peace and are restless until they rest in Him. Let us seek this week to build relationships, to bring peace to the places we inhabit.

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the true King of peace

In You alone is found freedom. Please free our world from conflict. Bring unity to troubled nations.
