This Week’s Headlines: We hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and a happy New Year. It has been great to welcome everyone back to school this week, with boarders returning on Monday and pupils starting the new term on Tuesday. The snowy weather has certainly added to the excitement! We had a wonderfully wintery scene just before the start of term. Year 11 mock examinations have now begun and will continue throughout much of the month, and we wish all pupils the very best as they take on this important stage of their studies. On Wednesday, pupils took part in Round 2 of the National Super Swim League, and the week will finish with our Music Scholars visiting the London Coliseum to watch The Nutcracker after school tonight! CERTIFICATE COLLECTION It was wonderful welcoming back our pupils, who returned to collect their GCSE and A Level certificates. So many smiles and laughs as they caught up with friends. A really lovely afternoon!

SPRING TERM GROUP SESSIONS ESTA is delighted to be accepting bookings for group lessons during the spring term. Sessions will run from Tuesday 6th January through to Friday 27th March (11 weeks). Group sessions will run at the following times: Y5 - Wednesdays @ 4:15-5:15pm Y6 - Mondays @ 4:15-5:15pm Y7&8 - Tuesdays @ 4:30-5:30pm Y9&10 - Fridays @ 5:15-6:15pm Performance Group (invitational) - Wednesdays @ 6:15-7:45pm Boarders' Group - Tuesdays @ 6:15-7:15pm Please contact Kirsti to book your child’s place at esta@effinghamschools.org ESTA also offers private coaching for adults and children throughout the week. Happy New Year! Welcome back to a snowy and frosty start to the term. The horses will be pleased to see the return of the children as it has been very quiet here without them.

REMEMBER! Whilst the snow and frosty mornings have been stunning, it has been bitterly cold at the stables this week. Please do remember to bring gloves, hats (for stable management sessions), warm coats and hand warmers if you have them.

Interhouse Dressage 2026 23 March - 28 March What? The annual STE Interhouse Dressage competition is a fun way for riders of all abilities to have a taster of what is involved in equestrian competitions in a familiar and supportive setting.

Who? STE riders who attend St Teresa's can earn house points from the competition, but the event is open to all STE riders.

When? The competition takes place in the last week of the Spring Term. Riders are allocated a 20 minute slot between 4pm-6.30pm on weekdays or 10am-12pm on Saturdays.

This Week This week we focus on the Epiphany A reading from the Gospel of Matthew Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the King, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born King of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the King heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

Reflection The Epiphany reminds us that all of us are called to share our gifts and talents. The wise men bring different gifts. God has given all of us different gifts and talents. The visit of the Magi remind us that we have something to offer and, of the importance of worship. We were made for worship, to adore our creator. In various parts of the world, the Epiphany is marked with the time honoured tradition of “chalking the doors.” The formula for the ritual is simple: take chalk of any colour (ideally blessed by a priest on the Feast of the Epiphany) and write above the entrance of your home: 20 + C + M + B + 26 The letters have two meanings. First, they represent the initials of the Magi - Caspar, Melchior and Balthazar - who came to visit Jesus in the place where he was born. They also abbreviate the Latin phrase, Christus mansionem benedicat, which translates as “May Christ bless the house.”
