Message from the Headmaster

It has been a pleasure to welcome pupils back to Cranmore at the start of the Summer Term The confidence, enthusiasm and commitment shown by pupils last term, and during the holidays through the ski trip and revision courses, have provided an excellent foundation for a positive start to the term ahead

This first week reflects the breadth and vibrancy of school life Senior pupils have begun the term with a range of important academic activities, including GCSE assessments in PE, Art and Drama, while pupils across all year groups have settled quickly back into their routines We were also delighted to welcome prospective Sixth Form families to our Offer Holders’ Evening, and Year 10 and 11 pupils to the EST Careers Fair, offering valuable opportunities for pupils to explore future educational and career pathways The week concludes with events that bring the school community together, including the CPA Colour Run and Outdoor Cinema for Year 10, while weekend.

Ski Trip to Italy

A group of 43 pupils enjoyed an unforgettable ski trip to Sestriere, Italy, where the snow conditions were simply fantastic Days were spent making the most of the mountain, building skills and improving confidence on the slopes, while evenings were filled with a lively programme of activities.

Pupils took part in quizzes, enjoyed a pizza night, relaxed during free time with friends, and celebrated their achievements at medal presentations It was a memorable trip packed with adventure, fun, and plenty of smiles all round

Charity Day

Our Charity Day on the final day of last term was a wonderful celebration of generosity and school spirit Pupils proudly dressed in their house colours, creating a vibrant atmosphere and a strong sense of community throughout the school Thanks to everyone’s enthusiasm and support, we raised the fantastic amount of £700 for Cherry Trees, a valued local charity, helping to make a real difference close to home.

Road Safety Presentation to Years 7 and 8

On the last day of term, our Year 7 and 8 pupils watched a powerful drama performance exploring road safety Particular emphasis was placed on the dangers of using mobile phones while crossing the road, a factor that contributes to many injuries and fatalities among young people

Following the performance, the actors led a highly interactive workshop that encouraged pupils to explore the story in greater depth. Pupils were even given the opportunity to ‘rewind time’ by suggesting alternative actions the characters could have taken and considering how different choices might have changed the outcome

It was a timely reminder of the importance of staying alert and taking a split second to think before acting, especially over the Easter break

Music News

Senior pupils were welcomed back in assembly on Wednesday. Our Chaplain, Mr Jakubowski, spoke about the road to Emmaus and we were treated to a wonderful performance of 'Terminal 2' by BéraTagrine by Charlie (10AR), who recently achieved a Merit in his Grade 6 piano. Public performances are a fantastic way to build musical confidence, and we look forward to further musical treats this term.

Sports News

Kobey M (Yr 11) and Harlequins

Kobey continues to go from strength to strength on his rugby journey this season Two weeks ago, he proudly represented Harlequins U16s at the RFU Warwick Festival, competing at national level against some of the strongest opposition in the country His performances at the festival were particularly impressive and did not go unnoticed

As a result, Kobey was invited to step up and train with the Harlequins U17 squad for the remainder of the season, alongside a small number of players from his age group This progression was quickly followed by another highlight, as he was selected to play for the U17s in their recent fixture against Gloucester at Kingsholm Playing the full match at outside centre (13), Kobey capped a superb performance by scoring

The momentum has continued, with Kobey selected once again for this coming weekend’s U17 fixture against Leicester Tigers With opportunities coming thick and fast, it is an exciting time for him and a clear reward for his hard work, commitment, and development We are delighted to share a photograph from the Gloucester match and look forward to following Kobey’s continued progress with great interest

Easter Rowing Camp

Over a four-day Easter block, we worked with approximately ten boys each day. They completed two rowing sessions each afternoon, with year groups mixed where appropriate. Significant progress was made in technical development, accompanied by the inevitable tired bodies and blistered hands that reflected their hard work

We concluded the camp with a series of short races, with the Year 9/10 crews chasing down the Year 8s, who were given a head start The weather was kind throughout, and the boys were enthusiastic, committed, and a pleasure to work with We expect the core of this group to represent the school at external regattas over the coming months

Chaplaincy News

A reading from the Gospel of Luke

As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came near and went with them, but their eyes were kept from recognising him When he was at table with them, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognised him And they said to one another, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked to us on the road?”

Reflection

The disciples on the road to Emmaus were confused and disappointed. They did not expect hope to be walking quietly beside them Jesus does not rush them or correct them immediately; instead, he walks with them, listens carefully, and gently opens their hearts

At times, we can be like those disciples God is close, yet we do not always recognise him in our daily life at school, in our friendships, or when things feel difficult or uncertain. Still, Jesus is always present, walking alongside us, especially when we feel unsure or discouraged

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You walk beside us on the roads of our lives, even when we do not recognise you Open our eyes to see you in our prayers, in our lessons, and in one another. Warm our hearts with your presence and give us the courage to share hope and kindness with everyone we meet Stay with us, Lord Amen.
