Senior Chronicle YOUR ESSENTIAL ROUND-UP FOR THE WEEK 4 SEPTEMBER 2026 The Effingham Schools Trust is delighted to welcome Rachel Owens as our new Chief Executive Officer. Rachel brings a wealth of educational leadership experience, having worked across a wide range of schools throughout her distinguished career. Since beginning her teaching career in 1992, she has held senior leadership positions in both state and independent schools, most recently serving as Headmistress of St George’s Weybridge. Alongside her passion for education, Rachel has made significant contributions to school governance, charitable initiatives and the wider educational community. Born and raised in Bolton, Lancashire, Rachel studied Histor y at Somerville College, Oxford, before embarking on a career in education that has spanned more than three decades. She is also a keen sports enthusiast, having coached netball for over 30 years, and enjoys reading, travelling and supporting her twin sons in their hockey pursuits. As Rachel succeeds Mr Mike Farmer, who retired in August, we look forward to an exciting new chapter for the Trust. Her extensive leadership experience, commitment to educational excellence and passion for developing young people will be invaluable as we continue to grow and strengthen our school community.

Message from the Headmaster Message from the Headmaster It was a pleasure to welcome all our pupils and families back to Cranmore this week for the start of a new academic year. I trust that pupils enjoyed a restful and enjoyable summer break and have returned feeling refreshed and excited about the year ahead. Following the excellent GCSE results achieved this summer, there is a real sense of optimism and momentum across the school. Our staff have spent the holiday period preparing engaging lessons alongside exciting opportunities beyond the classroom. The Cranmore year has already begun in earnest. Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome our new Year 7 pupils for their induction, giving them the opportunity to meet staff and peers and begin their senior school journey with confidence. Pre-season training sessions held during our INSET days and continuing throughout the weekend, have set the tone for Cranmore’s strong sporting tradition. Next week sees the full launch of our extensive co-curricular programme, with opportunities for pupils to develop new interests, pursue existing passions and contribute to the wider life of the school. We will also be welcoming prospective families to Cranmore for our Open Morning, an opportunity to showcase the vibrant community that makes our school so distinctive. During the first few weeks of term, pupils can look forward to Study Skills sessions, Cranmore Live! and the Year 7 residential, all of which play an important role in supporting their academic, spiritual, personal and creative development. The partnership between school and home remains one of our greatest strengths, and I look forward to meeting many of you at the forthcoming Headmaster's Reception Evenings.

GCSE Results 2026 I am delighted to share another outstanding set of GCSE results for Cranmore pupils. Building on the success of our inaugural GCSE cohort last year, this year's results represent a further significant step forward and reflect the continued dedication of our pupils, staff and families. I am particularly pleased that one third of all grades were awarded at Grades 9-8 (equivalent to the former A*), while more than half of all grades were achieved at Grades 9-7 (equivalent to the former A*/A). This demonstrates continued growth in the proportion of the very highest grades attained by our pupils. In addition, 77% of all grades were awarded at Grades 9-6 (equivalent to the former A*-B), an increase on last year's already impressive achievements. All of these measures are more than double the national average. These results are a testament not only to the academic ability of our pupils, but also to the determination, resilience and commitment they have shown throughout their studies. There were also some exceptional individual performances, with our highest-achieving pupil gaining ten Grade 9s and a Distinction in Extended Mathematics. We are equally delighted that all of our Year 10 pupils who were entered early for French or Spanish achieved the top Grade 9. These results are a source of immense pride for the entire Cranmore community, and I congratulate all of our pupils on their achievements. Mr Everitt, Headmaster

Sports News Rugby and Football Pre-Season The rugby season got off to an excellent start this week with two highly successful preseason training days for our U14, U15 and U16 squads. We were also delighted to welcome pupils from Effingham Sixth Form, creating an outstanding training environment and strengthening links across the Trust. Over 70 pupils attended the two-day programme, benefiting from sessions delivered by our sports staff alongside our specialist rugby coaches. The focus was on developing core skills, game understanding and physical preparation ahead of a busy term of fixtures. On Wednesday afternoon, more than 55 Year 7 and Year 8 pupils took part in a football pre-season programme. The boys enjoyed a variety of technical drills, small-sided games and match scenarios, providing an excellent opportunity to develop their skills, improve teamwork and build confidence ahead of the season. The enthusiasm, effort and commitment shown by all pupils across the two days were outstanding, and we look forward to an exciting term of sport ahead.

Former pupil Kobey has earned a place in the Harlequins U18s squad this summer and is in the running for selection for the opening fixtures of the 2026/27 season. We are immensely proud of all that he has accomplished so far, and cannot wait to see what the future holds as he continues to develop and excel in rugby.

Harry won his 'Novice Pot' at Kingston Regatta in the summer, rowing for Kingston Regatta. This is a very impressive achievement! Congratulations, Harry!

With some wonderful weather at RAF Lossiemouth, the cadets enjoyed a wide range of activities, from bowling to surfing, as well as visiting the Morayvia Aviation Museum. They were also ver y fortunate to be able to access many sections of the base. They were shown around the Poseidon and Typhoon aircraft, as well as meeting the RAF Police dogs. At the fire section, they were able to climb onto the vehicles and use the hoses. The Air Traffic Control tower was particularly impressive, as they were able to watch a Typhoon land. They also had the opportunity to visit the Army armour y and see the various types of firearms that it held.

Chaplaincy News A reading from the Gospel of Mark Passing alongside the Sea of Galilee , he saw Simon and Andrew the brother of Simon casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, “Follow me , and I will make you become fishers of men.” When Jesus called Peter to leave his nets and follow Him, Peter did not know exac tly where the journey would lead. He simply trusted and took the next step. At the star t of a new term, we are invited to do the same. Some of us are beginning in a new year group, meeting new teachers, taking on new responsibilities, or facing new challenges. Like Peter, we may feel unsure at times, but Jesus calls each of us to grow in faith, courage, and charac ter. Prayer Loving Father, As we begin this new school year, thank you for the oppor tunities that lie ahead. Like Peter, help us to trust in your call and to follow you with courage. Help us to grow in charac ter, showing kindness, honesty, perseverance, and respec t in all that we do. Bless our pupils, staff, and families. May our school be a place where faith flourishes, friendships grow, and ever yone is encouraged to become the best version of themselves. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen
