As we come to the end of a wonderfully energetic term, it gives me great pleasure to reflect on the many achievements and enriching experiences our pupils have enjoyed.
Beyond the classroom, pupils have embraced a wealth of opportunities. Year 8 enjoyed an inspiring trip to Bristol, exploring its vibrant art scene, including the pioneering street‑art culture shaped by influential artists such as Banksy Year 9 embarked on their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award campaign with a weekend of training that provided structured opportunities for challenge and growth, developing resilience, teamwork, independence, and a strong sense of community engagement
These opportunities continue into the Easter break, with staff leading the annual ski trip to Italy and running Year 11 subject sessions to support pupils’ understanding and revision ahead of their forthcoming public examinations
This term has demonstrated once again the remarkable spirit, talent, and resilience of Cranmore pupils. I am immensely proud of all they have achieved and deeply grateful to our dedicated staff and supportive parents, whose efforts help make these experiences possible.
With warmest wishes for a restful and happy Easter break

DofE Bronze Practice Expedition
Year 9 enjoyed an excellent weekend completing their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Training and Practice Expedition The pupils demonstrated impressive resilience, independence, and teamwork throughout On Saturday, they learnt first aid, navigation and camp craft They then put these newly acquired skills into action by setting up their own camps, cooking dinner, and navigating independently on Sunday We are incredibly proud of their efforts and look forward to supporting them as they prepare for their Qualifying Expedition in June.

DofE Bronze Practice Expedition
On Saturday we arrived, discussed the plan for the weekend, and talked about how we would approach our DofE activities We covered basic first aid, including DRABC, and then learned how to use a compass and take accurate bearings when reaching junctions
After a break, we looked at the route for Sunday’s expedition and what we would be doing that afternoon Then we had lunch
In the afternoon, we went on a short 4 km walk to practise the skills we had learned in the classroom that morning. When we returned, we set up our tent and cooked dinner. Afterwards, we played football for about an hour and a half before heading to bed.
The next morning, we had breakfast, packed up our tent, and set off on the first leg of the walk After about an hour, we took a wrong turn, but our instructor helped us by explaining where we had gone wrong We then continued for around 5 kilometres before stopping for lunch
After lunch, we walked for another kilometre but made another navigation mistake We were supposed to turn left, but we went right instead, which took us nearly an hour off the correct route We eventually found an alternative path that led back to the original checkpoint By that time, we had already been walking for six hours, so we were collected by the school bus, as we still needed to plan our qualifying expedition route Once we returned to school, we planned our qualifying route and then went home

Year 8 Art Trip
We went on an amazing art trip to Bristol and it was so much fun! First, we took part in a photography challenge at the Floating Harbour, which was great because we learned how to use a grid on our cameras. We also visited the M Shed museum to find out more about the history of Bristol Later, we stopped at a nearby square where we took even more photos, using the shiny surfaces and interesting shapes to make our pictures stand out
After that, we explored the Arnolfini gallery, which had a really fascinating exhibition. The next day, we went on a street art tour and even saw Banksy’s first ever graffiti piece Then we learned how to spray paint and created our own artwork I made a beetle, and it was so much fun! Overall, it was a fantastic trip and gave us lots of ideas for our art lessons

Chaplaincy News
A reading from the Gospel of John
Jesus, seeing Mary weeping, and the Jews who were come with her weeping, groaned in spirit and troubled himself and he wept
Jesus therefore came to the tomb And he cried with a loud voice: “Lazarus, come forth!”
Reflection
As we come to the end of a busy term and continue our journey towards Easter, may our hearts be lifted up For Christ is not distant from us He enters our world and, through His power, transforms us
This is the central Christian hope: that Christ is incarnate and present in the here and now, even in our places of grief and hurt
Have a wonderful Easter, whatever you are up to, and let us all pray for peace.
Prayer
Lord Jesus,
You stood with Martha, Mary, and Lazarus in their moment of sadness
Stand with us today in the places where we feel worried, tired, or weighed down
Help us to support one another, to bring comfort where there is sadness, and to be signs of your love in our school community
Amen.
