Message from the Head of Prep

Welcome back! After such a wet start to the year, it has been lovely this week to see the sun shining once again Let us hope for more of the same Over the last half term, our sports pitches coped admirably with the persistent rain and played host to some fantastic results for our rugby teams. Now the attention turns to hockey with a busy schedule of fixtures already underway. Good luck to everyone involved tomorrow’s matches against Cranleigh.

At the end of the last half term, Mr McGhee took Year 6 through a Design and Technology challenge with a Formula One theme The pupils produced some impressive designs, and our Sports Hall was transformed into a racing track. Well done to those who made it onto the podium with the quickest times.

We began the week with an assembly by Mr Peach who explored not only what we might give up for Lent but also what we might choose to spend more time doing Years 4 to 11 then participated in a Lenten Fast with the proceeds raised going to support those in need.

Year 3 were busy with a wonderful trip to the Winchester Science Museum and Year 1 enjoyed some story time with Mr Everitt Our School Council’s suggestion to hold a Prep Lego session was a great success with the children using their imaginations to create some amazing constructions

Next week, we look forward to welcoming families on Wednesday morning to mark the re-opening of our Nursery, along with the many exciting events planned to celebrate World Book Day.

Mr Heaver

Lower Prep Drama Workshop Year 3 Science Centre Trip

Year 3 had a fantastic day out at the Winchester Science Museum on Wednesday 25th February

The morning was packed with exciting hands-on activities, from sound booths and mirror experiments to quirky machines, a mini construction zone complete with crane, a Lego earthquake simulator, and an impressive space exhibit A standout moment was launching rockets powered by methylated spirits After learning about friction and air resistance, the boys loved modifying their designs to help their rockets travel even farther.

In the afternoon, we headed into the planetarium for an immersive journey through our solar system. The stunning views of planets and moons left everyone in awe. Although the boys may claim that lunch was the best part, it truly was a wonderfully educational and enjoyable day for all!

Year 3 have been learning about light and investigated reflection They used torches to decide what materials reflect better than others They found objects around the classroom and ordered them from shiniest to least shiny

Year 2 News

Year 2 love their weekly trips to the library. We relax and read and enjoy the moment of calm in our day while getting lost in a book!

Year 1 News

Year 1 kicked off this half term with a very special invitation to visit Mr Everitt’s office. The children were thrilled to step out onto the balcony and ask him all their brilliant questions It felt like such a treat, and we are already looking forward to our next visit

Lower Prep Drama Workshop Build and Explore LEGO Session

Lower Prep and Upper Prep joined forces at lunchtime today for a fantastic Build and Explore LEGO session! This drop‑in activity gave everyone a chance to get creative, work together, and enjoy some hands on building fun

It was a brilliant session full of imagination and teamwork and it is definitely one we shall be running again

A huge thank you to the School Council for organising such a great event!

Sports News

It has been a lively and energetic start to the half term, with the focus in Prep sport shifting fully to hockey. The U9s opened the week with their matches on Thursday, followed by the U10s taking to the pitches today, and we look forward to more Prep fixtures tomorrow morning It has been fantastic to watch the pupils throw themselves into their training sessions, growing in confidence and developing their core hockey skills in preparation for these games Their enthusiasm, teamwork, and determination have been evident throughout, and it has been a pleasure to see their efforts translate into positive performances on the field. More fixtures lie ahead, and we are excited to continue building on this promising start to the season.

This Week

A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew

Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. And the tempter came and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread ” But he answered, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God ’”

Reflection

Lent is now underway having begun last week on Ash Wednesday We often think of this season as challenging, a period of testing or struggle. Yet Lent is, at its heart, a time of growing in true freedom It invites us to loosen our grip on the things that hold us back, trap us, or deceive us Lent calls us to turn our hearts again to the One who loves us and to realign our lives with His grace

Prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, You entered the solitude of the desert not to display power, but to reveal the depth of Your love a love that refuses every false promise and every distorted image of God Grant us, O Lord, a heart that listens before it speaks, that seeks truth before comfort, that chooses fidelity over the easy path When we are tempted by noise, by distraction, by the illusion of self-reliance, draw us back to the simplicity of Your word In the Name of the Father. Amen.
