INSTITUTIONAL PROFILE

History

Effat University is a leading private non-profit institution of higher education for youth in Saudi Arabia, operating under the umbrella of King Faisal’s Charitable Foundation Effat University is strengthened by the legacy of its founder, Queen Effat Al-Thunayyan Al-Saud, wife of the late King Faisal Bin Abdulaziz (May God rest their souls)

In 1419 H, (corresponding to 1999 G), Effat University started offering academic programs under the name of Effat College. To be a center of academic excellence, Effat College launched different academic programs taught in English to expand the horizons of young women in Saudi Arabia and raise their educational level. The first two departments established by the college were Computer Science and Kindergarten These programs aimed to prepare women for the job market and increase their chances of finding work opportunities

Today, Effat University has further developed to offer 6 graduate degrees and 13 undergraduate degrees under four colleges and 11 departments. Some of these programs and their tracks are the first to be offered in the Kingdom to youth including undergraduate programs in Cinematic Arts and Entrepreneurship. In 2019-2020, Effat University opened its doors to male students in master degree programs, and in 2021-2022, the university started admitting male students in the undergraduate programs By the end of 2021-2022, Effat University developed its fifth strategic plan (2022-2027) to be implemented starting 20222023 New undergraduate and postgraduate programs were also introduced in 2023-2024, the bachelor of Science in Digital Media and Communication (DMC) and the Master of Science in Clinical Psychology (MSCP) Also, Effat University offered the first PhD program in BusinessAdministration in private universities in the Kingdome starting 2023-2204.

Institutional Accreditation (National)

Effat University received institutional accreditation among the first six public and private universities receiving the first ever accreditation conferred by NCAAA in 2010 After acquiring national accreditation/reaccreditation for all its bachelor degrees that are eligible for accreditation, Effat University was one of the very few universities that acquired national accreditation for its master degrees - Master of Science in Translation Studies (Now known as Master of Science in Translation and Interpreting), Master of Science in Finance, and Master of Science in Urban Design Effat University acquired full re-accreditation from 2017 to 2024 and in 2024 it acquired its full re-accreditation again up to 2031.

Institutional Accreditation (International)

New England Commission of Higher Education

The New England Commission of Higher Education has determined that Effat University is eligible to proceed with an application for candidacy for accreditation within two years. A determination of eligibility is not candidacy or accreditation, nor does it indicate a likelihood of eventual accreditation. Questions about eligibility and the accreditation process should be directed to the President of the Commission.

Programs Accreditation (International)

In 2022-2023, the Effat College of Engineering obtained international reaccreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). The ABET accreditation for the two programs; Electrical and Computer Engineering , and Computer Science extends from 2023 to 2029.

Effat University, Department of Architecture has received the International Certification (ICert) designation from the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) for the Bachelor of Science in Architecture ICert was granted in 2019 for a term of six years.

In 2021, the Effat College of Business obtained international accreditation from for its 5 bachelor and one master degree from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) for five years This was extended to six year in 2024-2025 for all business colleges across the globe The PhD in Business Administration Program was reported as well

QS Ranking

QS World University Rankings is an annual publication of university rankings by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) launched in 2004 In 2023-2024, Effat University proudly entered this world-renowned ranking for the first time The QS World University Rankings 2025 ​features over 1,500 institutions across 105 higher education systems and covers the analysis of 17 5m academic papers and the expert opinions of over 240,000 academic faculty and employers In 2024-2025, Effat University was ranked at 851-900.

Arab Region Rankings

The QS ranking comprises world and subject rankings (which name the world's top universities for the study of 46 different subjects and five composite faculty areas), alongside five independent regional rankings (i.e., Asia, Latin America, Emerging Europe and CentralAsia, BRICS and the Arab Region)

In 2017-2018, Effat University was ranked among the top 100 best Universities in the Arab Region. In the year 2025, Effat University was ranked #84. This is an indication that Effat University continues in making a mark on the regional community

THE Arab University Ranking

The Times Higher Education(THE) Arab University Rankings, introduced in 2021, demonstrates the strength of higher education across the region for the first time based on a unique methodology including new regional measures on reputation and collaboration, as well as the inclusion of metrics related to social impact, reflecting the focuses of Arab universities. In the year 2024-2025, Effat University was ranked #71-80

The Arab Ranking for Universities (ARU) is supervised by the Association of Arab Universities (AARU) and was launched in 2022-2023 The ranking focuses on teaching and learning, scientific research, creativity and innovation and cooperation. Effat University participated in the first launch of this unique ranking along with 115 Arab Universities. In the 2024-2025, Effat University was ranked #59.

THE Impact Ranking

The Impact Ranking identifies and celebrates world universities that excel across multiple United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (17 SDGs) By excelling in a variety of SDGs, these universities showcase their commitment to addressing the world's most pressing challenges, including environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic growth and partnerships.. In the year 2024-2025, Effat University was ranked #801-1000.
