The best high school for international students

Few other schools can match the “mini-UN” vibe of an EF Academy campus. Virtually every class, activity, and event becomes “global studies.” You’re constantly expanding your worldview with multiple perspectives while sharing your own culture and traditions.

“My favorite part of our school is that we all come from different countries, we have different cultures, and that makes us open-minded. And that’s a very good thing that a lot of people don’t have access to.”

#1 in bringing international students to the U.S.

At EF Academy, diversity isn’t a statistic— it’s our everyday reality. For over a decade, we’ve welcomed more international students than any other high school. In every class, you and your classmates from 60+ countries bring unique voices and perspectives that spark deeper understanding, enrich conversations, and prepare you to thrive in a global world.

Unmatched global diversity

With students from over 60 countries, EF Academy is one of the most internationally diverse high schools, where every classroom reflects the world. From your very first day, you’ll join classes, tutor groups, and dorm communities with peers from just about everywhere imaginable. Together, you’ll share cultures, discover common ground, and learn to navigate differences—turning diversity into a lifelong strength.

Built for global learners

Every aspect of EF Academy is built for international students to thrive—from visa support to personalized university advising. But it’s also the small, daily moments that make the biggest difference: celebrating holidays from new cultures, playing sports from different continents, and sharing music and traditions with friends from around the world. These experiences don’t just make high school more meaningful—they shape your ability to connect and build lasting relationships everywhere you go.

Cultivating critical thinking through diversity

Because our students come from all over the world, our classroom discussions become much richer. Classes like Theory of Knowledge, where we evaluate how we know things, include discussions on recent events in the global news and debates over the ethical dilemmas that constantly arise.

Emma Gernez, Head of Language and Literature, says what she loves most in Theory of Knowledge is “when students who had a fixed point of view see themselves confronted by other perspectives from students from a different country and realize answers are not as easy as they had thought. This is their critical thinking taking shape, and it would take longer to develop if all students came from the same country and the same background.”

Study in the academic heart of the UK

Our campus embraces the awe-inspiring atmosphere of England’s oldest university city—Oxford is our campus. Dating back to the 12th century, the University of Oxford has produced a host of notable alumni, including Oscar Wilde, Stephen Hawking, and Malala Yousafzai.

“My favorite thing about studying in Oxford is the feeling you get here—you’re in the middle of an academic city, surrounded by the best universities.”

PRATHAM Class of 2024 India

Graduate in the iconic Sheldonian Theatre

The Sheldonian Theatre is undoubtedly one of the most revered buildings in Oxford. Built in the mid-1660s for the University of Oxford's graduation ceremonies, this extraordinary venue also serves as the setting for our EF Academy Oxford graduations.

Divinity School—the oldest lecture hall in Oxford

The University of Oxford’s Divinity School is where we host the reception for our graduates and their families after the graduation ceremony (you might recognize the venue as a Hogwarts location in the famous Harry Potter movies).

Walk the cozy streets of the City of Dreaming Spires You’ll never run out of things to do and see in the city of Oxford. Enjoy some hot chocolate on an autumn day, browse the Botanical Garden, visit the famous Blackwell’s bookstore, or attend a play or concert at one of the many beautiful venues in the city.

Put on your safety goggles and explore

Hands-on learning is the norm in our newly revamped science corridor, complete with a prep room and three fully equipped labs— perfect for your explorations into chemistry, biology, and physics.

The ideal learning environment

Our dining hall offers delicious, nutritious meals with a global flair

The cafeteria ensures a balanced diet, offering diverse breakfast, lunch, and dinner options that cater to our global student community’s unique tastes and dietary needs.

A place where you can be comfortable

Strike the right balance between focus and leisure at our Cotuit campus. The study next to the reception, known as the Goldfish Bowl, is perfect for working on your homework or the next essay that's due, while the student lounge is a place of relaxation and unwinding.

Shared facilities at Oxford Brookes University

Not only do you get to enjoy our lovely campus, but you also get access to several facilities at Oxford Brookes University, which is just a short walk down Pullens Lane. Come here to play basketball, go rock climbing, play squash, go to the gym, or use the sports fields. Or, come to use the impressive library for a study session.

Highly personalized approach

Every student is unique—that’s why every learning journey must be unique. We craft a custom pathway just for you based on your talents and strengths. We help you set personalized growth goals with your advisors, and develop a plan for achieving them with courses and co-curricular activities you actually care about.

“The teachers here are helpful and supportive and get to know you and your goals so they can tailor your classes accordingly. Students receive individual help and support, and teachers are always there to answer your questions.”

Your pathway journey starts before you arrive

You meet your Pathway Manager before even coming to campus. They get to know you, go over your dreams and aspirations, help you design a plan, and advise on which classes you should be taking and which skills you should develop to achieve your ultimate goals.

Learn more about the pathways on p. 18-19.

Continuous

support to help you thrive

We know that sometimes, not everything goes exactly as planned. Therefore, intense individual support is provided throughout your academic journey so that you will succeed in university, career, and life. We continually check in with you to ensure that we can provide the right guidance for you to thrive.

Your personal growth is 24/7

Research shows that one of the most important keys to happiness and well-being is building meaningful relationships. That’s why campus life is so important to your education—from the classes you take, and the sports, clubs, and activities you join to the discussions you have with your House Parent or Pathway Manager. We help you reflect and grow from these experiences so you can develop the communication, selfawareness, and empathy essential to strong and lasting relationships.

Focus on what you’re good at

Noah joined EF Academy in 2021 with an interest in gaming and communications. While Noah's journey to attain the IB Diploma wasn't without its challenges, his story is one of growth and success.

Recognizing the hurdles he faced, his Pathway Manager collaborated with subject teachers and Noah’s Academic Tutor to forge a tailored plan, aligning his Pathway journey with his passion. With this personalized support, Noah committed to additional sessions in business, biology, and math. Noah's perseverance, coupled with his teachers' support, paid off. He not only passed his courses, but he was accepted into one of the top universities in the Netherlands, where he is majoring in International Communications.

EF Academy Academics

Great teachers.

Real-life learning. Personalized academic pathways.

Great teachers who are experts in their field

A great education always starts with great teachers. Our faculty's shared passion for international education comes from their firsthand global experiences that enrich each classroom. Many hold PhDs and are active in research, embodying a dedication to practical learning that is woven into your courses.

LANGUAGE & LITERATURE

Emma Gernez

Head of the Language & Literature Faculty

“I refrain from giving our students lectures or lists of things they need to memorize by heart. It is their interpretation, their understanding, their reflections, and the links they make between texts that will lead them to produce their best work. I tend to emphasize skills over content since skills are forever and infinitely adaptable to all sorts of contexts.”

After earning a master’s degree in French literature in Paris, Emma Gernez came to Oxford in order to learn English and promptly fell in love with the city, the region, the language, and the people. She has been teaching French in Oxford for 12 years in various international schools and gained a PGCE before joining EF Academy Oxford in 2014. She enjoys learning from her students’ different cultural backgrounds and hopes to bring a little bit of France to the classroom.

ENGLISH

“The most important thing for me as an educator is to develop a dialogic classroom in which answers are reached collaboratively. Creating an inclusive and supportive atmosphere is essential to doing this, but it is also key that students understand the central role they play in their own learning. One benefit of this is that it encourages students to be more autonomous and prepares them well for what will be expected of them at university and beyond. On a more personal level, it makes my job far more stimulating. The same lesson can explore vastly different avenues of knowledge depending on the students in the room.”

Zen Fordham earned his Master of Arts from the University of Bristol, followed by a Certificate of Education from the University of Cambridge. He has taught in a range of schools, both in the UK and overseas. Prior to joining EF Academy, he served as the Head of English at an international school in Slovenia. In his role at EF Academy, Mr. Fordham aims to inspire students to share his enthusiasm for language and literature.

SCIENCE

“The beauty of teaching science is that your day centers around helping others to understand the world around them and to solve problems they see using evidence and logic. Watching our students persevere through a challenge and agree upon new and creative ways to improve an issue is a real gift. Even more rewarding is when our young people apply this approach to other areas of their lives. It’s easy to see how the scientists at EF Academy will use the skills they learn with us to truly become the next generation of global changemakers.”

Dr. Amy Webber's expertise is rooted in her journey, graduating with a master’s and PhD in physics from the University of Warwick, while her research has covered magnetic resonance physics in France and quantum computing at the University of Oxford. While still teaching physics at the University of Oxford, she is currently a STEM Ambassador and Head of EF Academy Oxford's Science Faculty. She incorporates innovative learning practices, like virtual reality to engage her students and share her passion for science.

ACADEMICS

“Students learn best when they find the part of the subject that appeals to them. That will be different for all of them, but the most important step they can take academically is to say, ‘I want to know more about this’. Once they want that, everything else follows.”

Matthew Foster brings considerable expertise from his commercial law experience, leading the school’s Humanities department, and from his teaching of History, Law, and Politics at the university level. Mr. Foster is a graduate of the University of Oxford, has a master’s degree from the University of York and has practised law at a leading international firm.

Zen Fordham

Real-life learning— way beyond textbooks

The best way to learn is to roll up your sleeves and make your own discoveries—in and outside the classroom. We keep class sizes small so you can focus on building skills and knowledge through group projects that bring concepts to life. You also tackle real challenges and find real solutions through field study and service learning.

“As part of the Duke of Edinburgh Award we spent a few days hiking and camping in the countryside. We each took on different roles and tasks in our group and got to practice what we had learned about teamwork and communication. It was a great experience, one of the best I’ve ever had, and something that isn't as usual in my home country.”

EF & the Nobel Prize Museum Partnership

EF Academy students joined peers from around the world at EF’s Global Leadership Summit in Berlin to tackle the theme Future Readiness in a Changing World. We’re proud to share that our student Damian was on the winning team with their project Visionary, which makes the world more accessible for people who are blind or have low vision. Thanks to EF’s partnership with the Nobel Prize Museum, their prototype will be displayed in Stockholm alongside the work of Nobel Laureates.

The city of Oxford becomes your campus

For English and literature class, our students explore the literary landmarks and environments that inspired writers such as J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis. Our IB Art students visit local art galleries, like the renowned Christ Church Picture Gallery. Students studying mathematics visit the Mathematical Institute of Oxford University for lectures on topics like ‘Knot theory’, and our Global Politics students recently attended a lecture on ‘The Future of European Security’ at Oriel College.

Interactive learning— without leaving campus

Literature students create social media profiles for characters from the book they’re reading—imagining how they would use the platform and what kind of content they would share. Also, by using VR headsets, you complete virtual dissections, take field trips to study diverse ecosystems, experience immersive historical re-enactments, and explore complex mathematical concepts through three-dimensional visualization.

Activate your learning throughout the UK

You go on excursions to places like London, Brighton, Bath, and Stratford-Upon-Avon. For example, all students recently visited Bletchley Park to learn about code-breaking in World War II and the founding of modern computing. And, each autumn, you embark on a multi-night educational trip to locations like Cardiff and Edinburgh.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

Every year, you get the opportunity to take part in the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE). This globally recognized program empowers young people to develop life skills and broaden their horizons through a variety of challenging activities. To achieve the award, you engage in a volunteering commitment, where you contribute to a local community service or charity. You also undertake physical activity, such as playing a sport. Additionally, you and your classmates plan a 4-day, 3-night expedition, all on your own, to test your leadership skills, project management, and resilience.

Mastery of skills, not memorization of facts Here, you learn how to think—the real secret to success. All your courses are designed around the skills and knowledge you will need to flourish in life, not just facts and figures to pass the next test. Because it’s not the knowledge itself that’s important—it’s how you use it.

You always produce evidence of what you’ve learned

Like real life, it’s important to prove your understanding of a topic with concrete examples of how you’ve applied the knowledge. At EF Academy, your grades will reflect the quality of your work and mastery of key skills, not just the average of the quizzes and tests you take. So, get ready to complete assignments, collaborate on projects, and create original works that solve real-world problems with practical solutions.

“I feel like EF Academy has prepared me for my future education. I had amazing teachers, and the way they structure our tasks and classes prepares us for ‘real life’ and for managing being part of society as adults.”

Class of 2023

We design classes that are skills-based

Every class you take, whether English, Chemistry, or Computer Science, is carefully designed so that you are gaining both knowledge in that subject and practical skills that you can use throughout your life. In the case of English, for example, you learn how to analyze a text utilizing the core competency of critical thinking to determine whether your reading is based on fact or opinion.

Get more than just a test score

The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a unique opportunity for students to enhance their critical thinking, project management, analysis, research, and presentation skills. Completed alongside A-levels, it allows students to explore a personal interest beyond the standard curriculum by conceiving, planning, and executing a research project, all while gaining a distinctive edge in university applications and future careers.

Combining education with community service

As part of the Creativity, Activity and Service program, students get to work on a project around something they're passionate about. Italian student Giorgia and some of her classmates organized a fundraising event on campus for the Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary. They planned the event, considered budget, audience, and goals, and got to work creating flyers to spread the word about the event. Then they cooked delicious food for their peers and donated the money. It was a success, as Giorgia recounts, “It was a great experience because we had the opportunity to spend time together, like a big family, and at the same time we also had the chance to help animals, who are still looking for a family.”

Read more about the Creativity, Activity and Service program on pages 24-25.

Break a sweat

Enhance your resilience, strengthen your muscles, and chase the runner’s high as you work on the Activity component of CAS in the weekly runner’s club.

Use your voice to make a difference

Which topics do you feel strongly about? As part of the program, you raise awareness about global issues such as poverty, human rights, and gender equality. From hosting panel discussions to creating campaigns for social media, you showcase your commitment to creating a better world.

Where passion meets purpose

We believe that the power of collaboration and teamwork is essential to a skills-based education. We champion that through our Creativity, Activity, and Service Program (CAS), that all students participate in—be it A-Levels or IB. This unique initiative unifies our multi-national student body and accelerates your ability to work with others.

Shifting perspectives through the art of ceramics

To focus on Creativity, you collaborate in a full-day ceramic workshop, transforming 2D paintings into 3D objects. This challenges you artistically and expands your perspectives by seeing the different interpretations of your diverse classmates.

Bridging

cultures and perspectives

International food festivals and multilingual poetry slams—these are just two examples of the many creative cultural events and workshops our students get to enjoy while learning from each other.

Give back to your community

Community outreach is an integral part of the Service element of the CAS program. Together with your peers, you support the local community by organizing fundraisers, collaborating with animal shelters, offering tutoring, or visiting elderly care centers.

Personalized academic pathways

At EF Academy, we want students to build a high school experience as unique as their ambitions. Each of our campuses offers a range of programs to help you customize your high school journey. Students succeed when their education reflects their ambitions. Choose between A-Levels or IB Diploma Programme. Our U.S. campuses offer an American High School Diploma as well as a range of AP and IB courses.

With one-to-one advising, the focus is on you

Our approach to university guidance is a comprehensive and structured journey that commences at the outset of your academic adventure. The key to unlocking doors at top universities lies in choosing the right subjects and aligning them with your passions and aspirations. In conjunction with your Pathway Manager, our dedicated team ensures that your academic pathway is right for you.

A guided journey toward university

The university exploration process is meticulously crafted over 18 months. We guide you through every step, from researching a multitude of universities to visiting campuses in the UK that match your ambitions. Your counselor advises you on taking leadership roles, trying out new teams, finding a public forum to showcase your work, or taking summer internships that fit your journey.

Tell your story

Sometimes, your personal statement is the only impression that you will be able to make to universities. Your counselor will work closely with you to ensure that your college applications and personal statements truly showcase all that you have to offer. Some universities require either an aptitude test or an academic interview, which your counselor and teachers practice with you to ensure you're prepared.

Dr. Mark Zumbuhl Director of University Guidance

Dr. Mark Zumbuhl’s expertise originates from a journey that commenced at the University of Cambridge and unfolded with an MPhil and PhD from the University of Glasgow. Adept in higher education, he held teaching and research fellowships at the University of Manchester and Trinity College Dublin. With international experience, including teaching in China, he joined EF Academy in 2014, and has helped hundreds of students discover the right university for them.

“At the age of 14, 15, 16, it's very normal to be uncertain about your future direction, so it’s all about showing them what’s out there— there are so many options. With all degree programs, universities, and colleges around the world, it’s an amazing amount of choice, but it's also quite hard to navigate. That's why we provide an incredibly high level of personalized support.”

Our students get into leading universities

EF Academy graduates have an impressive 99% university admissions rate. But more importantly, 92% are offered admission to their first- or second-choice schools. Our immersive approach ensures that students graduate with the skills they need for a successful and happy life.

Daily mentorship and 24/7 support

Your Pathway Manager, Tutor, Activities Coordinator, House Parent, and our Wellness Team work together to help you flourish at all levels: academically, socially, and personally.

Your Pathway Manager: one-to-one support and advice

Our unique pathway system gives you the opportunity to focus your studies on what interests you most. Each student has a dedicated Pathway Manager, serving as a personal advisor for academic and personal development. Through regular one-to-one meetings, your Pathway Manager helps you set academic and university goals, define a plan to achieve them, and guide you throughout the course of your studies.

Your Tutor: a mentor to help you thrive

You will be assigned an Academic Tutor, who is also a subject teacher, to review your progress in each subject and set targets for what you want to achieve. If needed, you both create an action plan for improvement in areas like note taking, trying new study habits, and building time-management and organization skills.

Your Activities Coordinator: helping you develop your talents

Our Activities Coordinator is responsible for after-school clubs, activities, weekend excursions and our sport teams. He ensures students achieve a healthy balance between studies and extracurriculars, and guides students toward finding and developing their talents.

Your House Parent: the reason why this becomes your home-away-from-home

House Parents turn our dormitories into homes, bringing warmth, care, and fun to their hall communities. They are there for whatever you need—improving your study habits, engaging in student life, building strong relationships—and they work closely with your Pathway Manager, Tutor, and University Counselor to help you create a network of support.

Your Wellness Team: empowering your personal and social development

Personal and social health is interwoven into the curriculum. The PSHE program is an engaging learning experience featuring case studies, discussions, resources, and external lectures on topics including physical and mental health, personal safety, relationships, and more.

“The support you receive from your teachers and House Parents is so nice. I’m so happy I made this decision, and I knew from the second I arrived at EF Academy Oxford that I would feel at home.”

Where you can be you: your home away from home

Our welcoming campus community empowers you to come as you are and become who you want to be. Together, we create an inclusive environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging. Sharing everyday life—studying, eating, rooming, exploring, hanging out—is a priceless, life-preparing experience.

The Pastoral 5 Cs—our guiding principles

Compassion: showing kindness, caring, and a willingness to help others

Curiosity: taking an active interest in and genuinely wanting to know more about different topics and your fellow students

Commitment: being dedicated to your academic studies, a cause, or activity

Community: sharing attributes and enjoying the strength of the connections amongst one another

Communication: essential to help you build relationships, solve issues, and establish yourself as an active member of the community

Creating

your

home away from home

Living on campus nurtures independence within a safe and nurturing environment. Surrounding your residence building, you’ll discover serene, quiet study areas, a student kitchen where you can cook special meals with your friends, and a welcoming student lounge. The strong bond among students is fortified through group activities and friendly competitions orchestrated by our dedicated Boarding team.

Your well-being is our priority

We take a holistic approach to education— you need to feel good and be happy to succeed academically. Therefore, we make sure that our community and your living environment are warm and accepting places where you always have someone to talk to and where you can feel just as comfortable and at ease as you would at home. We also have a group of teachers and staff dedicated to your welfare, who work closely to oversee your development and provide support where needed.

“I left my family in my home country, but at EF Academy Oxford, it felt like an even bigger family with all my friends, staff members, teachers, and House Parents. It just felt like one big family.”

Bonding over culinary explorations

Our MasterChef-style competition is led by house parent Beccy, who brings warmth and energy to the kitchen. She guides new students through a friendly culinary showdown that encourages creativity, teamwork, and sharing of cultures. What began years ago with student ambassadors and a former house parent has become a lasting tradition — one that continues to showcase our community’s diverse flavors while giving new students a fun way to bond.

Residential life

Living at EF Academy Oxford offers more than just a place to stay; it’s a journey of growth, support, and camaraderie that extends well beyond the classroom.

Accommodations for your comfort

Our student residences Marcus Lower (girls only) and Brewer (boys only), provide homey housing where you’ll share a twin room with a roommate of a different nationality, enriching your experience by sharing traditions and cultures. Your room features a comfortable bed, a desk with a lamp, and a secure storage locker for your valuables.

“A great thing about studying at EF Academy Oxford is that you learn how to be independent, manage your time, do your laundry, and take care of your space.”

BENEDETTA

Class of 2024

Italy Magdalen, Folly, or Osney— which will be your house?

Upon enrollment, students are allocated into one of the three houses—Magdalen, Folly, and Osney. The houses have their own colors and emblems, and students engage in exciting interhouse games and activities. This system encourages team spirit and camaraderie, and the students love it!

Your house parent is your go-to for advice and support

A House Parent lives full-time in your dormitory. They’re on-hand to help you learn how to live independently, cultivate positive relationships with students and staff, and build key life skills. They also help you manage your daily schedule, progress in your studies, and build a network of advisors dedicated to your success. Best of all, their door is always open when you just need someone to listen.

Perfect roommate matches for enhanced living

Before your arrival, we take time to understand your living habits and preferences in your Pathway Call. This helps us pair you with roommates who share similar interests, ensuring compatibility and a harmonious living experience. Together, you decorate your room and make it the cozy home you will share during your time on campus.

In the evenings, campus life shifts to dorm life

Your afternoons will keep you pretty busy with sports, clubs, and activities. After your evening meal, dorm life kicks in with Study Time when you catch up on homework and projects. There’s still free time for renting out the student movie room to catch the latest release. Or you might head to the student lounge to cook your favorite snack, play pool, or just hang out with your friends. Soon, it will be time for your House Parent to conduct the final room check-in so you can get a good night’s sleep.

Baldwin

Class of 2024 / Germany

“Studying at EF Academy is like a home away from home. You get that family feeling, and you meet lots of friends.”

Baldwin really appreciated the variety of after-school activities and trips students at EF Academy are offered, “One week we went paintballing. And there are trips to universities or cities like Cambridge and Birmingham.” He also enjoyed trips to adventure parks and the Harry Potter studios, “It’s a really fun and good way of adding leisure time after classes.” Baldwin was also a Student Ambassador, “The Ambassador Program is the perfect opportunity to learn skills like leadership, communication and project management. I’m very proud to be an Ambassador.” Baldwin and the other Ambassadors played a key role in making sure new students feel welcome by showing them around, getting them started for the school year and being a point of connection. They also took on a year-long project in which implement a change they were passionate about on campus. Baldwin’s group began a housing system, which encourages camaraderie and team spirit. After a day of classes, Baldwin enjoyed spending time in the student lounge, “We had a big TV with Playstation and a kitchen where we can cook special meals together. It’s an amazing and cozy room where we spent a lot of time.”

Manuela

Class of 2023 / Colombia

“EF Academy offers students the opportunity to explore life on their own while having a dependable safety net and constant support.”

Living abroad at a boarding school was a new experience for Manuela when she arrived at EF Academy Oxford. She describes that living abroad in a new place and without the parental support that she would receive back home has strengthened her sense of responsibility and independence: “My experience here has taught me valuable lessons that I believe will continue to be valuable for me, not only when I enter college life but in my adult life as well.”

What surprised Manuela most at EF Academy is the liberty and trust given to students, “Rather than being confined to a small space with little to no freedom, I could experience the sense of independence while having a reliable support system in the staff and student body here.”

Manuela feels prepared for university thanks to the thorough academic guidance provided at EF Academy. Similarly, she expresses that not only has her time here prepared her for the independence that comes with adulthood, “but I believe it has also prepared me for the level of work I will need to handle at university.”

Rustamkhon

Class of 2023 / Tajikistan

“EF Academy Oxford is for people who want to challenge themselves, learn to live on their own, and make new connections.”

Rustamkhon's favorite memories from EF Academy Oxford include the friendliness of the staff, the hospitality, and the diversity, “There are people from all over the world, and you make new friends and connections. That's what I love most about EF Academy.”

Coming to EF Academy, Rustamkhon had a clear vision of what he wanted to achieve: “I came here to challenge myself and to learn critical thinking for my future education and work life.” Critical thinking is a key part of the IB Diploma, and he feels that his time at EF Academy helped him achieve his goal. He is especially grateful for the teachers; “they are the most supportive teachers I've ever had. Whenever I had a problem or didn't understand, they were always there to help me.”

Aruzhan

Class of 2019 / Kazakhstan

“Being at EF Academy was one of the most magical experiences of my life.”

After graduation, Aruzhan moved to Canada for her university studies. She pursued a double major at the University of Toronto, graduating with honors in psychology and International Relations, earning a Bachelor of Science.

Having completed the IB Diploma at EF Academy, Aruzhan felt prepared for the academic level of university: “the IB was so multidisciplinary and gave me so many valuable experiences.” The community at EF Academy also prepared her for an international life, “Being at an international school, you talk to so many different people from different cultures—you learn a lot, you expand your perspectives, and you grow as a person. Things like cultural humility, we learned here already.”

Sometimes, Aruzhan has dreams where she’s back on campus, “I wish that I could just repeat a day here because honestly, I feel like it was one of the most magical experiences of my life. Nothing else compares to having an international boarding school experience. It’s really special.”

Amina

Class of 2023 / Nigeria

“My favorite thing about EF Academy is its diversity.”

Amina has many fond memories from her time at EF Academy Oxford. She was pleasantly surprised by how kind the teachers and students were, making her feel immediately welcomed into the community. If she had to choose one favorite thing about EF Academy, it would be the diversity found on campus, “What I enjoy most about living abroad at a boarding school is that I get to make friends from different nationalities.”

She also cherishes the wealth of opportunities for exploration that the school offers, with weekend activities, sports, and other experiences that allowed her to try new things.

Summarizing her high school experience in Oxford, Amina expresses that she learned how to to be responsible, independent, and respect people’s opinions.

Marie

Class of 2022 / Norway

“What drove me to EF Academy Oxford was a combination of the academic focus and the extracurriculars that were offered.”

During her time at EF Academy Oxford, Marie made sure to choose extracurricular clubs that complemented her interest in renewable energy and the fight against climate change. She joined the Green Team, Model United Nations, and the Ambassador Program.

When she first came to EF Academy, Marie experienced some struggles academically. As part of the IB Diploma Programme, she took several high-level courses, including physics, chemistry, and mathematics. She attended support sessions that are offered on campus and successfully improved her grades significantly; “the teachers were so helpful, they would answer all my questions.”

Today, Marie is studying chemistry at the University of Oxford.

Reminiscing about her time at EF Academy, she fondly remembers spending the evenings with all her friends, “especially during spring and summer in South Park, just hanging out. Everyone was welcome, and it was just a great time.”

Brayden

Class of 2024 / South Korea

“My favorite thing about studying at this campus is the beautiful atmosphere that Oxford has.”

One of the things Brayden appreciated the most about EF Academy Oxford is the unwavering support and commitment of the teachers. He emphasizes how great and easy it was to communicate with them, ‘They were always open to academic questions, and provided support and help.’ As a Student Ambassador, Brayden worked closely with the teachers and staff, especially during events like Welcome Days, where Ambassadors play a significant role in being representatives for the school and welcoming new students to the community. Through the Ambassador Program, he had opportunities to collaborate and get to know Ambassadors from the other campuses in New York and Pasadena. When asked about his favorite thing about EF Academy Oxford, Brayden is quick to mention Oxford’s wonderful atmosphere, which offers plenty of opportunities to hone his interest in art, history and literature. He also appreciates the international community at EF Academy Oxford, which continually broadened his perspective of the world.

Laura

Class of 2024 / Italy

“EF Academy Oxford is like a small world in one place.”

Laura describes the community on campus as a small world in one place, ‘a multicultural community where we get to know other people from all over the world, with different languages and different cultures.’ She emphasizes the valuable lessons and skills that come with living abroad on campus, such as sharing living and common areas with other students, learning how to establish and cultivate healthy relationships, and how to become more independent and adaptable. On top of ‘full immersion and a challenging learning path’, Laura also expresses her appreciation for opportunities students were given to take part in volunteering activities in the nearby community, as well as exciting excursions to go paintballing, see a play at the West End, and explore surrounding destinations like London or Stonehenge.

Kseniia

Class of 2021 / Russia

“The way teachers talk to me, and how they’re so approachable and caring, that’s what helped me pursue my academic journey.”

Kseniia’s first impression of the school was one of pure amazement: “I fell in love with the school—with the facilities, the staff, and with my new friends.” After EF Academy, Kseniia moved to the Netherlands, where she is currently studying Business Administration at the University of Amsterdam and working for the university as a teacher assistant as well.

She emphasizes that her time at EF Academy significantly shaped her approach to education after graduating high school. The approachable nature of the teachers and the genuine care they had for their students has been instrumental in her academic journey so far. She fondly remembers her business teacher, who had a significant influence on her decision to study business, and she expresses that even teachers outside of her main subjects at school left a lasting impact on her: “In the end, all teachers had a place in my life and in my heart as well.”

The EF story

EF has been transforming the way the world learns through immersion for nearly 60 years

It all started with a new vision for education

Bertil Hult founded EF in 1965 with the belief that people learn best through immersion and hands-on experiences. He struggled with traditional classroom learning as a high school student with dyslexia in Sweden, and he realized during a summer job in England that he was picking up English effortlessly by living the language, not studying it. This led him to become one of the early founders of immersion learning.

Today, EF is a global education organization

Thanks to the power of immersion learning, EF helps people around the globe explore new places and experience new cultures, learning more about the world and themselves. Today, EF teachers and team members work in schools and admissions offices in over 50 countries—yet we all share the same 60-year mission: opening the world through education by breaking down the barriers of language, culture, and geography that divide us.

We started EF Academy to build a better school

We believe a 21st-century education must provide students with far more than preparation for university. We unlock each student’s unique potential through a highly immersive education designed to ignite their curiosity, growth and well-being. And we provide them with the real-world knowledge and skills that are essential for leading a successful and happy life.

EF Academy’s commitment to you

We challenge ourselves to live up to these educational principles each and every day:

– All students are capable of high achievement.

– Student-centric teachers are the key to a great education.

– The best way to learn something is to experience it.

– The future belongs to those who understand the world.

– A true education helps students figure out what they’re good at.

– Happy kids succeed.
