Edward Toby Wagstaff
Edward Toby Wagstaff is a writer, editor, and script consultant specializing in the entertainment industry and conversational AI. Born in the United Kingdom, he earned a first-class honors degree in Philosophy and Modern Languages (Italian) from the University of Oxford and currently resides in the United States. Edward Wagstaff spent a year at Oxford in Rome, studying at the Università degli Studi Roma Tre. There, he focused on the history of cinema and art. In addition to his academic work, he volunteered as a teaching assistant in the English department. He directed a production of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest, working with Italian students. He also developed photography skills while living in Rome, capturing the city's historical and cultural landscapes. After completing his degree, he moved to London to begin his career in the film industry. Toby worked at Studio 8 Productions and Peace Arch Films, writing script coverage, handling travel arrangements, and creating promotional materials for international film markets. He also gained experience in post-production as an intern for the BBC series Monarch of the Glen, learning film editing, sound mixing, and color correction techniques. In 2004, he took on a more hands-on role in production, working on the film Shadows in the Sun, which was shot in Tuscany and London. Wagstaff played multiple roles on set, including assisting the producers, translating for the Italian crew, and serving as an on-screen double for the lead actor. Later that year, he moved to Los Angeles to become a Creative Executive at Fierce Entertainment, where he contributed to the production of War starring Jet Li and Jason Statham and helped expand the company’s client base. He transitioned to a literary management agency, where he helped nurture screenwriting talent and contributed to developing several screenplays. He also worked on the editing and narration for the documentary Diamonds in the Rough.
