We often think that ideas and leadership need to come from outside experts. But EduSpots has helped us to see that this myth isn’t true, and that we can be the leaders of our own change.
My journey with EduSpots started when I shared a dream. Back in 2017, I wanted to play a role in transforming educational opportunities in the school I went to in Savelugu, Northern Ghana, where resources and mentorship were hard to come by.
Supported by a network of local changemakers known as Catalysts, I’ve been able to build a strong local team in Savelugu who lead a huge range of education clubs, sustained across 7 years, moving from mobile libraries to STEM camps, and gender equity clubs – all owned by, and supported by the local community, and impacting thousands of learners.
And in this time, I’ve grown from a very shy student, still finding a way to raise my hand and trying to find my path in the world, to a confident leader supported by hundreds of local changemakers, whose journey and potential are only just unfolding.
Today, we share an even bigger dream. It is a dream shaped by over 400 local Catalysts, thousands of young learners, and 50 communities that are proving every day that they can lead their own futures.
As I look at my daughter, Hannah, I often wonder what her world could look like in ten years’ time. Imagine if every child could grow up in a community where learning is joyful, leadership is local, and young people have the skills and mindset to work together to shape their shared futures.
That future is possible, but it will take collective effort.

Imagine Hannah steps into a world where every community has a learning Spot alongside a drinking Spot - a place where learners gather to learn, connect and imagine!
From an early age, Hannah falls in love with learning and play. Through reading stories set in her own context and hands-on activities, she discovers her curiosity and confidence, sparking a love of understanding the world around her.
At school, learning extends beyond the classroom walls. Climate education and nature-based learning are woven into everyday experiences, inspiring Hannah to care for the rivers, forests, and wildlife that surround her community.
Hannah’s teachers are confident users of technology and AI, helping learners move beyond consuming information to creating solutions. Supported by local mentors, Hannah begins to develop her own ideas, projects, and innovations.
In school and in her community, Hannah feels safe, valued, and heard. Expressing feelings, sharing concerns, and supporting one another are part of everyday life. She develops empathy with the leadership skills to ensure that everyone belongs.
Hannah loves volleyball, and helped launch a Spot team. When she shares her dream of becoming a software engineer in the EcoSTEM club, her community believes in her and take steps to support her.
As she grows, Hannah becomes a Catalyst herself, joining a vibrant network of educational changemakers across Ghana, Kenya, and beyond. She learns from others, shares her own experiences, and discovers the power of collective action.
Hannah is selected as an EduSpots Digital Champion, helping to develop the EduSpots App for igniting community-led education, whilst helping others grow their confidence in digital skills such as animation, design, AI and more!
Hannah is part of a wider movement for community-led change, placing communities in the driving seat of their own change. Through local leadership, teamwork and play, the next generation is fast becoming the changemakers of tomorrow.
And one day, Hannah inspires another young person to believe that their own dream can change the world too, through telling the story that her mum, Nimatu, began.
