Could you start by telling us who you are and your experience with EF? I’m the father of Maria, who took an LT summer course with EF last year. I’m here to give you my insight.
Great! Can you explain for other parents what it’s like to send your child on an EF Language Travel course? I was apprehensive at first, especially knowing this would be Maria’s first trip abroad on her own. I was encouraged by the high level of communication I had with the EF team - they gave me all the information I needed and were really supportive. I had regular contact with Maria, however I also got the impression she was very busy!
What did Maria tell you about her experience? From what she’s told me, she had an incredible
amount of fun. She took English classes either in the morning or afternoon, with activities in between. She was part of a group of other students of a similar age, and they did everything together. They were always under the supervision of several trained EF staff members too, who introduced them to lots of new culture and sports.

We give some ‘top tips’ on how to support your child through this amazing new experience. Don’t worry too much! It’s never easy letting your child go on their first summer abroad by themselves, however they are in safe hands. Our EF leaders accompany your child throughout the
entire journey, and they are in groups with other students around the same age too. You’ll also be surprised at how resilient and adaptable your child is - they will make lots of friends and absorb a vibrant new culture Be supportive but not pushy Most parents have a list of things that they would like their child to achieve during their summer abroad, namely learning a language and understanding a new culture - as well as having fun. The key is to accept that the most important thing is the experience itself. Be there to guide

Don’t stalk them on social media Tempting as it may be, scrolling continuously through your child’s Snapchat and Instagram feed and commenting on everything won’t help support your child much. Pictures and posts can sometimes be misleading, so scrutinising their every move will just make you worry more. You’ll also get jealous of their incredible snaps. Playing it cool and ‘liking’ the occasional picture shows that you’re interested, without being overbearing.
Don’t take it personally if they forget to call Not seeing your child every day over summer can be difficult. You’ll want to speak to them constantly to find out what they’re doing. But your child will be having so much fun - making exciting international friendships and gaining cultural exposure in a dynamic new town or city. So don’t be offended if they forget to call or text. It’s not because they don’t want to speak to you.

Last years’ EF Vlogger Course brought students and YouTube stars together to express their creative talent for online videography. Each one showcased their inner director with a unique twist on ‘lights, cameraphone, action!’
What advice would you give to future EF students? Every minute counts and it should be used on something you will remember. Also, I really recommend getting a bit out of your comfort zone and getting to know as many people as possible.
