No two international cities are as similar as New York and London and studying in either allows you to immerse yourself in a cosmopolitan center of the world. Dig a little deeper, however, and the subtle contrasts between the two will make a huge difference to your study abroad experience. We’ve compared the two in a number of categories to make it a little easier to answer that million dollar/pound question: Where should I study: London or New York?
Nightlife and Entertainment London and New York are bursting with possibilities – and not just during the day. When the sun goes down, they’re both leading locations for nighttime entertainment. A world-class theater district (Broadway in New York, the
West End in London), all the cuisines you can think of (and even some you never imagined) and A-list gigs can be enjoyed in both.
Tasty Treats Both destinations are readymade for food lovers. Every visitor has to look beyond, but not ignore, the stereotypical dishes these cities are known for. Afternoon tea, crumpets (a spongy, butter-soaked griddle cake), and a meaty roast dinner are essential to London life while hot dogs, burgers, and bagels have been fuelling New Yorkers for decades. When you look further, however, you’ll discover dishes from across the globe, street food stands selling tasty concoctions and innovative chefs rustling up mouthwatering flavors that can’t be found anywhere else.
Freebies London excels at offering free things to do – perfect when you’re on a student budget. Checking out ancient artifacts at the British Museum and National History Museum won’t cost you a pound, nor will gazing at the acclaimed art on show at the National
Gallery, Tate Britain or the Tate Modern. New York can’t compete with such great free activities, but you’ll still find gems around the city – you just have to search a little harder. Some museums, galleries and small concert venues are free (or pay what you like) on specific days.
Getting Around The Big Apple’s restaurants and bars never sleep – nor does its transport system. Its 24 metro lines run 24/7 while only three of London’s 11 lines run throughout the night (and then only on weekends). New York’s subway is also better connected than its British counterpart with the MTA boasting 468 stations compared to London’s 270. Getting around New York is also kinder on your wallet with the average bus, taxi and subway ride working out cheaper than those in London.

Welcome to the brand new edition of The Insider!
You have devoted hours, days and weeks to participating in classes and soaking up every word of wisdom your teachers have shared in class. The only thing left are your final exams. But don’t despair. We’ve put together a short list of tips and tricks that will help you survive (and pass!) your final exams:

In order to keep track of all your exams and all the different topics you have to study for, make sure to schedule your studies carefully. Take some time to make your own personalized schedule with a clear outline of what you’re going to study when. Allocate more time to classes you find particularly challenging and make sure to plan in some breaks as well in order to keep yourself motivated.

You’ll be amazed by just how much the right food can boost your brainpower! Pack your diet with superfoods such as acai, goji berries, chia seeds and be sure to eat balanced meals that include the likes of salmon, kale, broccoli and eggs. It’s also time to ditch the coke for fruit smoothies and green tea.
3- Take a break Taking breaks when you study is as important as spending time in front of your notes and books – you need time to process all that new information. Make the best of your free time by avoiding spending too
much time in front of the TV or on social media. Spend it on sleeping, eating healthy and working out.
4- Sleep is king You need to keep yourself wellrested and focused in order to process more material. Don’t go to bed too late, especially not the day before the exam. Make sure not to sleep too much either as too much siesta can be counter-productive and cause you to feel more tired instead.
5- Get active Research shows that there is a link between exercising and academic success. When you’re doing cardio (running, swimming, cycling etc.) your brain is filling up with oxygen, making it better equipped at processing and retaining new information. Even a less vigorous, but still active walk in nature helps you make better sense of the information you just learned.
6- Manage your time When it’s time to sit your exam you have to make sure to use your time wisely. Being focused and organized is key. Spend the first few minutes reading through all the questions and planning the order you’ll answer them in. With multiple choice questions, make sure to read through all the answers carefully before settling on an answer. Trick questions or answers that are really similar can easily result in a mistake. With essay questions it’s important to take some time to read through the question and make a short plan of what you want to cover before before you start writing.
