Thegoaloftheselecturesistoillustratesomebasicconceptsofquantumintegrable systemsontwoimportantmodelsofstatisticalphysics:the Q-statePottsmodeland theO(n)model.Bothmodelshaveageometricformulationaslatticemodelsof fluctuatingloops,hencemakingcontactwiththeTemperley–Liebalgebraanditsdilute generalization,respectively.Theypossessaconformallyinvariantcontinuumlimit,that canbeeasilyvisualizedintheCoulombgasformalismbyviewingtheloopsaslevellines ofadeformedGaussianfieldtheory.Forparticularvaluesof Q and n,thecontinuum limitismoresubtleandgivesrisetologarithmicconformalfieldtheories[1].Important challengesremaintobesolvedinthiscase;thisishoweverbeyondthescopeofthese introductorylectures.

WesetoutbytransformingthePottsmodelintoaloopmodel,andfurtherintoa six-vertexmodel.BothformulationsunveiltheunderlyingTemperley–Liebalgebra,and hencepermitustoidentifythequantumintegrable R-matrix.Thisleadstothesolution ofthemodelbythealgebraicBetheansatztechnique.Extractinginformationaboutthe continuumlimitfromtheresultingBetheansatzequationscallsinsteadfortechniques ofanalysis.Wefocusonthecriticalcase 1 < < 1,andderivethegroundstatefree energyindetail.Thenwediscusselementaryexcitationsandestablishtherelationship withtheCoulombgas.

Afinalsectionprovidesasurveyofsomemorerecentmaterial.WediscussthespinoneIzergin–KorepinmodelandestablishitsrelationwithanO(n)loopmodel.Wefocus ontheso-calledregimeIII,whichgivesrisetoanunusual,non-compactcontinuum limit,inwhichthespectrumofcriticalexponentscontainsbothdiscreteandcontinuous components.The n → 0limitinthisregimedescribesacollapsetransitionofpolymers duetothecriticalself-attractionbetweenmonomers,anexampleofaso-called -point.

Theselecturesarebasedonsundrymaterial,includingstandardtextbooksand reviewsonintegrability[2–5]andconformalfieldtheory[6],mylecturenotesforthe AIMEScourse[7]givenattheICFPgraduateschoolattheEcoleNormalSupérieurein Parissince2011,myreviewofCFTappliedtoloopmodels[8],afewtheses[9,10],and alotoforiginalresearcharticles.Themaintextcitessomeofthelatter,withnoattempt atexhaustiveness,theprincipalaimbeingtoprovidethereaderwithafewentrypoints toalargeandevergrowingbodyofliterature.

Itaketheopportunityhereofexpressingmydeepgratitudetowardsmystudents, colleagues,andcollaboratorsovertheyearsforalltheyhavetaughtme.Ialsothankthe studentsoftheSummerSchoolfortheirsuggestionstoimprovetheselecturenotes.

1.1Pottsmodel

InthissectionwedefinethePottsmodelandtransformitintoaloopmodel.By orientatingtheloopswethenexhibittheequivalencewithasix-vertexmodel.Both formulationsprovidearelationtotheTemperley–Liebalgebra,whichisthebasisfor solvingthemodelbytechniquesofquantumintegrability.
