Dedication To my wife and children: Through and through, thank you for your love and support—in this project, yes—but much more so in the everyday moments of life. You are all amazing.
To everyone who has made sacrifices to help others in the pandemic— healthcare and other frontline workers, absolutely—but also the everyday individuals who have chosen to make small but consistent sacrifices based on physician recommendations and solid scientific data (e.g., wearing masks and taking the vaccine) in order to protect yourselves and protect others: You are heroes, and individuals like you are the best hope for ending the pandemic anytime soon. Thank you for your selflessness, vision, and endurance.

Preface Welcome to the fourth edition of Diagnostic Imaging: Pediatrics. While we have made the expected updates over the third edition of the text (including new images and videos, terminology, disease classifications, and even new chapters), the events of the last 2 years have led to what I hope to be a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence: the opportunity to include a disease that did not exist 5 years ago and of which virtually the entire global population is now aware. I highly doubt that anyone reading this text has been unaffected by the COVID-19 pandemic, directly or indirectly.
So, in that context, I only have a few relevant thoughts.
I hope that each of you is truly well. That you’ve found a consistent way to refresh your soul in this trying time—that you have light, joy, purpose, and engagement—and somehow that wellness spills over into the lives of others—your patients and their families, your colleagues, your family and friends. We all need a little hope and encouragement from each other.
Finally, I must thank all who have worked on this book, especially those who helped carry my burdens when the light was dim. I am greatly indebted to you.
