Welcome to the 2022 Downtown Edmond Art Festival

The Downtown Edmond Arts Festival is back! Back to a springtime event. Back to the traditional booth layout. Back to all the art, music, food and fun you’ve come to expect. But, one thing you WON’T have to worry about is looking for a parking place! Now you can ride to and from the arts festival in air conditioned comfort due to a new shuttle service this year! The service will be free, thanks to sponsorship by Visit Edmond, the Edmond Chamber and the Edmond Economic Development Authority. The bus will run every 15 minutes from 9:30 am to 8:30 pm on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30, and from 10:30 am to 5:30 pm on Sunday, May 1. Visitors can park at one of two UCO parking lots on the west side of 1st and University, and board a 59 passenger touring bus. After a short three minute ride they will be dropped off at Littler Lawn at 1st and Littler, just a half block away from the arts festival. “We often heard of visitors frustrated with the lack of close parking, especially from parents of young children and those with mobility issues,” said Michelle Schaefer, Arts Festival co-chair. “We want to make it easy for

anyone to be able to attend without worrying about walking several blocks in the heat and wind.” Sponsored by the merchants of the Downtown Edmond Business Association, the event marks the 44th annual year for this award winning event. “We attract top talent from across the nation to our show,” said Schaefer. The proceeds help the downtown merchants pay for marketing that showcases the unique businesses in Downtown Edmond. There will be 140 artists from 12 states participating, some from as far away as Florida and Wyoming, showcasing their talents in oil, acrylic, watercolor, jewelry, pottery and photography. There will also be a special section on First Street for Artisan crafters, showing their skills in leather, wood, resin, glass, metal and fabric. Additional artists will be located in the Hargrove building parking lot, next to the City of Edmond Utility Office. Be sure and venture down First Street to the Festival Marketplace, where there will be a huge assortment of fun and games for all ages. Look for a large tent to find a variety of children’s activities, such as face painting and craft projects. Check the schedule to see when your favorite

princess or superhero will appear! There will also be a high striker carnival game, a photo booth and a first aid station. Look for the giant game area where you can play on a 16 square foot chess board with 3 foot tall chess pieces, or play a game of giant checkers or Connect 4. There will also be giant stacking blocks, giant dominoes, ring toss and cornhole games. New additions this year are two free throw games and an 8 foot piano keyboard. Keep going to the covered pavilion where you can sit in the shade and listen to local school choirs, dance groups and singers. Friday night there will be a concert with Edgar Cruz and the Brave Amigos, and Saturday night will feature R&B band Shortt Dogg. There are also three street corner musical venues featuring local singers such as Edgar Cruz and Olivia Kay. Downtown merchants will donate gifts to put in a giant basket that will be raffled off, with the proceeds donated to Edmond Mobile Meals. Featured Artist On the Cover

Sharon Sudduth Our featured artist is Sharon Sudduth and her painting “Amethyst Glow.” Originally from Kansas, Sudduth is now living and working from her home studio in Enid. She credits her upbringing as a Midwest farm girl for her love for nature and the simple things in life. After a variety of career experiences, including teaching, project management, interior design, and leading

a chamber of commerce, Sharon had the opportunity to pursue her career in art in 2012 after moving to Oklahoma. In 2018 Sudduth discovered the “alla prima” or wet into wet method of oil painting. She fell in love with the medium and technique which allows her to complete paintings in just a few sessions, meeting her need for spontaneity but also results. Her specialty is painting big floral art such as Amethyst Glow. Her paintings are sold online, at local shops, art shows and at events. Sudduth has exhibited and sold her work through juried, group and solo gallery shows and events in Oklahoma and Kansas and through her website, www.sharonsudduthart.com.

Every year the Downtown Edmond merchants donate items to make a large gift basket valued at over $1,200. Tickets are sold during the arts festival for a chance to win the basket, and the charity gets to keep all the proceeds! The arts festival is happy to designate the recipient of this year’s basket to Edmond Mobile Meals. Edmond Mobile Meals is a non-profit charitable organization celebrating its 48th anniversary this year. Over ONE MILLION MEALS have been delivered since 1974. Each weekday Edmond Mobile Meals provides hot, nourishing meals to over 230 elderly and disabled persons who are unable to prepare meals for themselves. The meals and contact by caring volunteers allow frail, homebound persons to remain living independently in their own homes. Edmond Mobile Meals depends on on approximately 400 volunteers of all ages to not only deliver meals to homebound disabled people, but to also show love and compassion by providing a daily wellness check. For many clients, volunteers are the only people they see each day and represent their link to the outside world. Edmond Mobile Meals delivered over 60,000 meals in 2021.
