“Happy Birthday, Sammy!” says Mr. Sloth. “Now make a wish and blow out the candles.” Sammy thinks to himself, I wish the Iowa State Cyclones win this week. Sammy Sloth takes a deep breath and blows out all of his candles.
Sammy Sloth loves going to the Cyclone football games. Every Saturday, Sammy Sloth and his four best friends all pile into Mr. Sloth’s big brown van and drive to Iowa State University to watch the Cyclones.
Sammy Sloth and his buddies arrive super early to Jack Trice Stadium so they can spend the morning tailgating. They paint their faces and spend hours playing football with each other before they grill hot dogs and eat chips. “Here comes the team. Let’s go see the players get off the bus!” says Matthew Monkey as the team rolls in with a red fire truck escort.
“Whoa! Look how big and strong the mighty mighty Cyclones look,” says Roo Red Rooster. “Hey, there’s Coach Rhoadsrunner, Coach MaCaw, Jack and Jake Giraffe, Lane Lion, AJ and Austin Alligator.”
“I can’t believe the guys from Animal Gameday are here!” says JC Jackal. “It’s going to be a battle for the Cyclones today, and I don’t think they can beat their archrivals,” comments Herbie Horse. “Not so fast, my friend,” replies Lee Leopard, “the Cyclones superstar QB, Seneca Seahawk, will lead them to the promised land today!”
Sammy Sloth and his buddies make their way into the game just in time for warm-ups. They watch the punters punt, kickers kick, linemen block, linebackers tackle, quarterbacks throw, and the receivers catch. The band plays the Iowa State fight song, as the team runs onto the field.
“I want to play for the Cyclones someday!” says Campbell Camel. “Me too!” adds JC Jackal. “Whoooooooooooaaaaah!” the crowd yells as the game starts with the opening kickoff.
JJ Jackrabbit jumps and jives all the way down the field for a hundred-yard TOUCHDOWN!
“This is going to be a great game!� says Campbell Camel as he gives Cy, the mascot, a high five.
Jamie Jaguar kicks a 50-yard field goal. It’s good!
Sage Stallion throws a long pass to a leaping Todd Tiger—TOUCHDOWN! Reggie and Reed Ram both sack and strip the ball from the QB—TOUCHDOWN, TOUCHDOWN!
Troy Tiger takes the handoff and stiffarms a tackler—TOUCHDOWN! Seneca Seahawk soars around right end—TOUCHDOWN!
Doug and Dustin Dalmatian both intercept a pass and jump into the end zone—TOUCHDOWN, TOUCHDOWN! Darren Tasmanian Devil takes the handoff and spins into the end zone— TOUCHDOWN!
Ryan Rhino blocks a punt and plows in for another—CYCLONE TOUCHDOWN! The Cyclones score touchdown after touchdown to beat their archrival!
The crowd goes wild as they rush the field and celebrate with the Cyclone players. “Let’s join the celebration!” exclaims Sammy Sloth. Sammy Sloth and his buddies congratulate all the players and coaches on the field. They sing the Iowa State fight song with the band. They even stay on the field after to play catch, tackle, and pretend they are part of the mighty mighty Cyclone football team.
“This is the greatest day ever!” says Matthew Monkey as all the friends pile into the brown van. “I can’t wait until we are old enough to play football for the Cyclones!” says JC Jackal. “That would be AWESOME!” “It’s so much fun cheering on the Cyclones,” says Sammy Sloth. “Let’s do it again next week!”
