I selected Sheza Star S804A from the Family Traditions sale because of the her completeness, homozygous polled and black status, EPDs, and pedigree. After viewing her full brother, SVF Star Player at the SVF bull sale, I felt a sister would complement our young and small program. This spring we weaned progeny from three different sires and all those calves were 100 lbs. above the contemporaries. You can see the progeny represented in the Genetic Connection and it is easy to evaluate the performance. Also, studying the progeny of her brother at Pine Ridge, Sunset View, JRW and other operations it all ties together. A son of S804a is working in Jack Gilberts herd. • This is hard one to write, because this females better days are ahead. R9 was purchased as an open from Mike Walters by my friend, Doug Parke, his words were “She’s young but she’ll be good”, and he was right. R9 is a full sib to L24, better known as the dam of Miley Cottontail, a half sib to Broker, the baldy Reserve Champion in Denver, and a direct daughter of the immortal H25. She is an egg machine averaging 20 embryos on five successful flushes. Bred to Star Player for a September baby, she will be ready to enter transplant this fall. We have had several Star Player calves at JRW and they are good with eye appeal, calving ease and performance oriented. R9 is homozygous polled and homozygous black. At the recent AJSA national show several family members again came to the top. Continue the legacy with this donor.
