Welcome to our dispersal Welcome to “Kia Ora” for what is certainly an eventful day in the Ebbeck family’s history. Poll Herefords have been my life for well over 45 years and a big part of Kerrie’s for well over 25 years. We have loved every minute of being part of this great breed, even through the testing periods which were at the time very challenging, we got through those times stronger and have learnt plenty about the cattle business and life in general. We will miss it all, but most of all we will miss the people. In saying that we plan to be around the shows and Poll Hereford events for many years to come. As many of you will know we have had some health issues over the past few years and it is time for us to take a step back and have time to “smell the roses” and live a little less full on life. As you would know the time and effort needed to build a purebred herd and then keep it at its peak year after year, decade after decade, is bloody hard work and very time consuming especially if you strive to be at the top which I have done ever since starting the stud way back in 1970. It is now time for us to slow down. I am a little sad but very proud to be offering the entire herd in what I honestly believe is it’s best genetic and physical condition it has ever been in. You have the opportunity to secure the best of the best of our 40 odd years of breeding Poll Herefords. At EBBX we have always gone to great lengths to source, acquire and use the very best genetics the world has had to offer. I have always selected Sires from dams that I have seen live and in production and for the most part also their grand dams on both sides of the pedigree. Udder quality, structural soundness, coupled with performance and fertility have been my main considerations when selecting our genetics to breed with as well as importing and selling in Australia. It has meant many hours in “planes, trains and automobiles” in many countries but I’m sure it has paid off.

The cow families represented here today are of course the families that have been the backbone of our program and have produced the Champions, the dams of our Champions and our greatest breeders. They carry the blood of the best bulls we have selected, purchased and used. Many I am proud to say have gone onto be breed immortals, bulls such as Bond, Hustler, Blaster, Knight Rider, Maddux, Vaquero, Bold, Canuck, Kazz, Thunder, Beyond, Aberdeen, Iguacu, and the list goes on. I am confident that the two new bulls we have been using, Alliance and Samsonite will also become household names in the near future. The big proportion of the cow draft have heifers on them but the cows with the exciting bull calves at foot will give you a great chance to secure a young sire and manage him in your own way. I believe as with the bull calves the joined and unjoined heifers show just how good the cow herd is working, there are many many donor dam and show types in these young females. New cutting edge genetics coupled with beautiful easy on the eye individuals - I could not recommend these young females more highly. The semen lots will give you the opportunity to secure some of the best the Poll Hereford World has had to offer. Great older bulls that have either no semen available except for today or is extremely hard to get. The New bulls are exciting and I am sure will go on to be in pedigrees of many of the great ones in the near future. I would like to explain a few of THE decisions we made about today’s Dispersal. You will notice that many of the calves on the cows are actually weanable but we decided to leave them on the cows and not sell them as single lots. This gives you a wonderful opportunity to get great value for money in the “three in one packages” and see what mum can do.
The herd is offered in its entirety. NO female has been held back bar a few that injured themselves over the flood time. If you are interested in those cattle we will offer them at the average cow /calf price for sale after the sale. The bull calf on B21 Lot 14a will be retained by us. I feel he is one of the better bull calves we have raised and I would like to have one last Hoorah in the Poll Hereford show ring. You will also notice three lots of “buyers choice”. We have done this for the kids (all adults now) as they wanted to keep a couple around them for old time sake. As many of you will know our kids have grown up in the Jnr Heifer Show world and have a soft spot for a couple of their favourites. So to be true to what I always intended to do, and that is to offer the entire herd this was the most open and honest way to do it, every female is in the sale. The “A” or “B” lot not chosen in these three lots will be retained by our children and grand children. At this time I would like to say thanks very sincerely to all the people from the Hereford fraternity who have supported us personally and in our Poll Hereford endeavours over all these years. A special thanks goes to all the great young people (some not so young any more!!) that have worked with and for us over the years through the different eras of Ebbeck Family Farms existence. Kerrie and I are proud to call many of you our very close and personal friends, part of the family. Thank you for being such good friends and for being so loyal to us. In closing we wish you all the best with your purchases and hope you get as much pleasure and great calves out of these females as we have, I’m sure you will. One of my favourites, A70 is a big broody young cow, sound as a bell and out of the Moorlands female S011 who was one of their best and has worked so well for us and Grathlyn since we bought her. Lots and lots of milk here. Her first calf a heifer sold in the Heart of the Herd sale for a Record $23,000. If you look at her next calf, Lot 3, you can see why we are so happy with this excellent Aberdeen cow, they are certainly making fine matrons of the breed. She should be in a flush program as a top end donor cow for sure.

E8 displays all the performance and outlook of her sire and the femininity of her mum. A very stylish July born baby with a very interesting pedigree. The best of the traditional quality of New Zealand and the added performance of the ‘Lineone’ blood of Nth America. A very interestingly bred female that I am sure will be a great cow in the future.

Z31 from the great Irish Rose cow family is in the same mould as A42 Lot 4b except she has not been shown. She is a true Top Class breeder, this girl never misses. Have a look at her heifer calf at foot, who is going to be a magnificent female of the future. Her first heifer Lot 60 and her last years heifer Lot 7 will show you what she can do. We have been sweating on a bull but so far all heifers. She may be a little more moderate in frame but she makes up for in spades full with her broodiness. The Bolds have developed into magnificent cows. Z31 was a stand out herself from day one and so was her mother W43 who unfortunately died at an early age. Then there is her grand Dam T60 a great cow that bred bulls such as the $25,000 Ebbx Determination bought by Minlacowie and Ebbx Mr Beef purchased by Jim Gunn. This year Ebbx Friendship Lot 76 carries on the tradition. She is a great flush cow averaging 14 A Grades. H/C H/C F9 by Ladies Man born 21/8/10. Will be rejoined prior to sale. Grand Champion Female at Sydney Royal. A42 is a full sister to Ebbx Expectation, Grand Champion Bull Sydney Royal as well. He is breeding so well as you can see by his progeny here today. These two are the only full brothers and sisters to be awarded both Grand Championships at Sydney. In my opinion she is the best I have bred and she is breeding the same way. Flushes by Iguacu and Merawah Typhoon A85 have produced outstanding progeny for us and Stuart Adlington GLEN EYRIE. He bought the rights to two half share flushes and what a success that has been. We have two bulls going to Dubbo National and an outstanding daughter is the next lot. Our heifer calf by Merawah Typhoon A85 who sold to P & L Ritter for $9,000. Her first natural calf sold to Paul Foster for $8000 in the H of The H sale. She is an outstanding individual backed by the amazingly consistent Joybelle cow family. She flushes very well with an average of 7 A grade embryos per flush. Will be rejoined by sale day AI’ed to Alliance.

B21 was Grand Champion Sydney Royal and is a mountain of a cow. She won her class as a two year old heifer in Sydney and then came back the next year and was Grand Champ with a calf at foot. Deep bodied and lots and lots capacity she milks so well and produces a good one every time. Just look at her progeny to date, her first heifer who sold to P Fitzgerald SA for $4,500. She has bred Ebbx Rattler and now Ebbx Get Go the calf at side. I think he is one of the better calves we have reared. A very broody Maddux daughter. Loads of milk and very very easy doing as you will see. She has a super young heifer selling as Lot 58. Her first son Ebbx ‘The Doctor’ was used in the stud and by Brian Thompson in the Jinderlee Stud herd.
