Nel 2024 la produzione mondiale di calzature ha raggiunto i 23,9 miliardi di paia, con l’Asia che ha consolidato la propria leadership, arrivando a rappresentare l’88% del totale. Questo dominio è stato storicamente trainato dalla Cina, ma negli ultimi anni si osserva un crescente fenomeno di delocalizzazione verso altri Paesi asiatici. A pagarne le conseguenze in termini di volumi è stata soprattutto la produzione europea, che ha però reagito investendo in innovazione, qualità, efficienza e sostenibilità ambientale.
In questo contesto, l’Italia continua a svolgere un ruolo strategico nel segmento alto di gamma, distinguendosi per l’eccellenza dei suoi prodotti. Il valore dell’interscambio mondiale di calzature ha toccato i 180 miliardi di dollari nel 2024. L’Italia si è posizionata al decimo posto in termini di volumi ma ben al terzo posto per valore delle esportazioni, confermando la propria competitività.
In 2024, global footwear production reached 23.9 billion pairs, with Asia consolidating its dominant position by accounting for 88% of total output. This supremacy, historically driven by China, has in recent years been increasingly characterized by a relocation of production towards other Asian countries. The main impact has been borne by European manufacturing, which has nevertheless responded by investing in innovation, product quality, operational efficiency, and environmental sustainability.
Within this framework, Italy maintains a strategic role in the high-end segment, standing out for the superior quality of its products. Global footwear trade amounted to 180 billion USD in 2024. While Italy ranked tenth worldwide in production volumes, it secured third place in terms of export value, underscoring its competitive strength.

Ancora più rilevante è il primato italiano nel settore conciario, che ha registrato un interscambio globale di quasi 15 miliardi di dollari: l’Italia è il primo esportatore al mondo in termini di valore.
La pelle italiana è sinonimo di qualità grazie a materie prime selezionate, tecnologie avanzate e innovazione chimica, che riducono l’impatto ambientale.

These results are attributable to an integrated and highly specialized supply chain, in which Italian technology plays a pivotal role. Italy benefits from a long-standing industrial tradition in the sector, widely recognized as a benchmark for innovation, quality, and service. In 2024, global trade in footwear, tanning, and leather goods machinery reached 1.06 billion USD, with Italy ranking as the world’s second-largest exporter and achieving market penetration in more than 120 countries.
