Over the four days, supply and demand of truly global scale came together. Figures remain in line with June 2025, with approximately 8,000 attendees, 69.7% of whom from abroad. The steady attendance of buyers refects the strength and diversity of the ofering from over 1,000 brands and exhibitors from 44 countries Notably, there has been growth in buyers from Poland, India and Latin America. Incoming fows from Greece and Israel have also improved, while Spain has tripled the number of operators active on online platforms.
A total of 235 hosted buyers and journalists from 51 countries attended, 26 of which were represented for the frst time in the incoming programme, supported by the Italian Trade Agency (ITA).
The 105th edition of Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags closed under the banner of internationalisation, diversity of offer and innovation: from international delegations to new Summer 2027 collections, and the debut of AI runway shows.
When presenting the new Luce, Ferrari’s frst electric model, Chief Designer Flavio Manzoni quoted Gustav Mahler: “Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fre”.
Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags, held from 13 to 16 June 2026, embodied this principle by focusing on internationalisation, diversity of ofer and innovation — the key themes of this 105th edition
On one side, preserving “tradition”: ofering the volume fashion sector — particularly footwear and bags — the best international hub to do business and build relationships. On the other, evolving the event to enable participants to understand, interpret and address the challenges shaping diferent markets
The fairs proved to be the ideal environment to leverage the advantages of the many trade agreements Europe is currently fnalising along key global routes. Discussions throughout the exhibition halls frequently focused on Mercosur and the new opportunities opening up from May 2026, as well as agreements with India and Australia, which are expected to deliver signifcant competitive advantages in the coming years.
Giovanna Voltolini, Group Exhibition Manager at Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, summarises one of the key strengths of the event: «Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags are like an interactive map, enabling us to read the increasingly rapid shifts in global trade in real
The diversity of products on display also stands out: collections varying in quality, design, materials and manufacturing techniques
A richness that preserves tradition, explores the vast world of casualwear, investigates innovations in home, safety, performance and childrenswear, and embraces forward-looking solutions such as 3D printing and advanced manufacturing processes, including injected and high-frequency bonded uppers.
Angela Wu of Max Group, Product Manager for the Italian brand ASH, attended Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags to identify suppliers beyond Chinese production, diversifying collections while maintaining high standards of design, materials and detailing. She declared: «Today’s challenge is capturing the attention of younger consumers, who are exposed to an overwhelming online ofering and defne their purchasing behaviour there. Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags are ideal for this: the ofer is broad and diverse in both price and quality.»
The AI runway shows were an absolute novelty — not only for the fair, but for the entire sector — clearly refecting the event’s forwardlooking approach. Their purpose remains to showcase products, allowing buyers to frst see them worn by virtual models and then experience them physically at the stands. For the fair, continuing to ofer technological innovation experiences is essential in supporting distribution and the entire value chain in interpreting change and identifying emerging opportunities.
Innovation was also central to the Innovation Village Retail and the Start-up Competition, won this year by Shoeftr.io — a technology that helps online footwear shoppers fnd the correct size without trying products on, reducing returns and supporting more sustainable commerce.
With 22 events — from AI runway shows to Trend Highlights, from Market Focus sessions to Expo Riva Nights and the Area Showcase — Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags continue to impress visitors with an increasingly rich and engaging experience, full of insights, inspiration and networking opportunities.
Philosopher and Tlon co-founder Maura Gancitano recently noted: «We need to redefne the meaning of the word ‘we’, often emptied of its value, to restore its sense as a network of interconnected relationships, where everyone is called to take responsibility and play their part. »
Alessandra Albarelli, General Manager of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi, added: «Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags are the expression of a collective intelligence involving exhibitors, buyers, associations, experts and professionals from all over the world. Our role as organisers is to observe the market as a whole and to have the courage, ambition and strength to evolve each edition in order to capture its changes. In this edition, we have provided a concrete de-
monstration of our ability to respond and remain proactive, focusing on three key directions: increasing internationalisation, innovation as a growth driver for the entire supply chain, and new ways of telling product stories. »
Iulian Munteanu of Dasha Online (Romania), a leading national e-commerce platform, agrees: « Being in Riva del Garda is essential not only to fnd new business partners, but above all to work together with other players in the supply chain and refect on how to restore European competitiveness in a complex global scenario. »
If the Ferrari Luce has sparked debate — at times heated — Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags have brought everyone into agreement: Riva del Garda is the ideal place to develop and innovate business, even in the most complex market conditions.
'Be here or be wrong', reads the campaign promoting the 2027 editions: 16-19 of January and 13-16 of June.
Either you are in Riva del Garda — or you miss the opportunity to evolve your business.

Detroit, primi anni Ottanta.
At Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags, an immersive experience designed to showcase exhibitors’ products: a fashion show generated entirely by artificial intelligence. The models were digital, but the products remained real: actual shoes and bags that visitors could touch at the fair.
Detroit, early 1980s. Three lads from the suburbs – Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson – began sampling the sounds of derelict factories and looping them: techno was born. Forty years on, that same gesture returns to the catwalk.
At the frst AI Fashion Show organised by xpo Riva Schuh and Gardabags – staged for the 105th edition last June – the sounds of mechanical arms, lasers, gears and conveyor belts were sampled and looped like a drum machine, creating an industrial soundtrack to accompany the entire show. The noise of a factory becomes a beat. The mechanical movement becomes rhythm. The factory becomes the catwalk. Technology, automation, robotics and artifcial intelligence are interpreted as an opportunity to celebrate human creativity, to amplify the power of reality and of the products (shoes and bags) that we will buy and wear every day.
The fashion show was generated entirely using artifcial intelligence. Three LED walls ffteen metres wide and four metres high projected three diferent views of the same virtual catwalk, with close-ups of the products, which were the true stars of the show.
The models: digital boys and girls, with ‘perfect, invented, impossible’ identities, born in an imaginary factory made of lasers, cogs and robots. But creativity remains where it belongs: in the selection of real shoes and bags those brought to the fair by exhibitors ahead of the upcoming S/S 2027 season – which visitors could touch and feel as they wandered through the halls. It lies in the materials, the stitching and the details that no algorithm can replicate. «AI fashion shows are a tool - says Alessandra Albarelli, General anager of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi. They have served to showcase, in a fresh and innovative way, our exhibitors’ products and their ability to interpret taste and the market. Technology amplifes what already exists: the real quality of those who produce shoes and bags every day.»
So, no dystopian interpretation of AI. And no cold, impersonal future. Artifcial intelligence does not replace: it brings ideas and products to the fore and enhances them. It leaves the perfection of atmospheres and staging to the digital realm, whilst restoring the value of uniqueness to the real world. Like Detroit techno: born of machines, but crafted by those with the sensitivity to transform noise into music.
Once again, Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags are looking ahead to guide the footwear and handbag sector towards a future in which the focus is increasingly on craftsmanship.

During a visit to a major art exhibition, there are moments when you stop looking and start feeling. It is from this same intensity of perception that the key trends of the next season emerge — four visions inspired by observing art as a research tool.
Expo Riva Schuh and Gardabags (13-16 June 2026) will present and explore them through the Area Highlights programme, developed in collaboration with Arsutoria
It starts with Pop Art: Jef oons pushes surfaces to the extreme, ultra-glossy and refective. Daniel Buren introduces the code of coloured vertical stripes, while Bridget Riley adds movement through vibrating optical bands. The result: high-gloss fnishes, coloured coatings, latex and metallic efects. A bold, direct palette — saturated reds, bright yellows, electric greens. A trend designed to stand out, using light as a powerful commercial tool.
Boccioni translated speed into sculptural form. Iris van Herpen creates garments that appear fuid, almost water-like. Both share the same goal: giving shape to the intangible. Applied to product design, this becomes living surfaces: folds, pleats, embossing and three-dimensional waves. A texture that is not only visible, but above all tangible. Structured leathers — not printed — create real depth, delivering immediate and recognisable added value.
Olafur Eliasson creates environments that change colour depending on perspective. Dan Flavin transforms neon into pure architecture. From these references emerges an aesthetic based on iridescent, colour-shifting and mirrored materials. Vinyl materials that shift from green to violet, leathers that capture and refect light in constantly changing ways. Bags and shoes that reinvent themselves through light and movement — the trend closest to impulse buying.
Alberto Burri worked by burning canvas, wood and plastic, revealing unexpected value through transformation. A key insight: the most interesting material is the one marked by time. Patina translates this approach into product design: gradient tones, worn efects, raw edges, vegetable-tanned fnishes. Each piece is unique. Imperfection is not a faw — it becomes the added value to communicate, a strong response to a market saturated with standardisation.
