MICAM MILANO, TAKES OFF AGAIN MICAM MILANO CONFIRMS ITS SEPTEMBER APPOINTMENT, FROM 20 TO 23 AT FIERAMILANO RHO, FOCUSING ON SAFETY, SUSTAINABILITY AND DIGITISATION MICAM Milano is the first trade fair to reopen after the Covid emergency and reconfirms its dates from 20 to 23 September offering companies, many of which find their only business opportunity at the fair, an important moment of recovery. The numbers and volume of the fair are of course reduced compared to previous editions: “We are aware that it can never be as the great event it has always been, says MICAM’s CEO Tommaso Cancellara in an open letter on the MICAM website - but the exhibiting companies and buyers have asked us to organise it and if they are ready to get involved in order not to miss the season, we cannot remain indifferent. For now, we received adhesions of over 500 companies, but many others are in the process of being defined”. As for the contents of the event, MICAM focuses on three assets. First and foremost safety: the plan drawn up with Fiera Milano and the Conference of the Regions guarantees everyone to be able to work securly. Between appropriate sanitisation measures, controls and specific desks on the safety theme, the supervision on this front is absolute. The second point concerns sustainability, a theme to which an entire section of the event is dedicated as part of The Garden, the area launched during the February edition. Finally, digitalisation: alongside the physical show, there is MICAM’s Milano Digital Show debut, in partnership with the digital platform of NuORDER which already has over 500 thousand retailers from all over the world. MICAM also reconfirms its special areas: MICAM X, a laboratory of ideas dedicated to innovation divided into four themes: Future Retail, Sustainability, Trends and
Materials, Heritage & Future, and Emerging Designer, the hotbed of new talents on the international footwear scene. Among the sections of the event, iKids, the area dedicated to children’s footwear is also reconfirmed with the best brands of the sector. BAMBINO

OUR PRIORITY IS INTERNATIONAL EXPANSION RENATO MAZZOCCONI, CEO AND CDA VICE PRESIDENT OF IMAC S.P.A., WHICH OWNS THE BRANDS PRIMIGI, IMAC, IGI&CO AND ENVAL SOFT, RETRACES THE STEPS TAKEN BY THE COMPANY TO EXIT FROM THE POST-COVID EMERGENCY, BUT ALSO SPEAKS ABOUT THE REACTIONS OF THE CHILDREN’S FOOTWEAR MARKET AND PRIMIGI’S PROJECTS FOR THE NEAR FUTURE. What strategies did you adopt to reply to the new needs connected to the recovery of business after the Covid emergency? In terms of production, we were forced to inevitably stop, while initially deciding to use the period of closing to clean and adapt the work areas to the new parameters of hygiene-sanitary standards, in order to guarantee the correct distance between personnel and the correct availability of company services to all employees, once we opened back up. At the same time, we moved up the timeline of our maintenance operations in the plants, making some tech-
nical improvements on our production lines. In terms of distribution, we immediately flanked our customers, supporting them in this difficult moment through a specific commercial strategy aimed not only at economically helping them out, but also and above all elaborating new ideas and prospects for our shared future. What are the greatest difficulties you find yourselves facing in this moment, but also which opportunities do you believe this situation has created? The greatest difficulties without a doubt are operative in nature: new production shifts,
new regulations to follow in work areas and a new way of approaching and interacting with consumers in stores. As with all moments of great collective difficulty, also this pandemic will generate new opportunities for those who know how to seize them: what is needed are good ideas, a desire to be active and the willingness to invest in what is new and makes progress. Do you believe the period we are living in has changed the purchasing habits of consumers and the products they wish to buy? Most certainly. Nothing will be like it was before, even if in my opinion, these revo-

lutions were already underway even before the arrival of Covid-19. A profound change in purchasing habits had already been going on for years, and the virus only accelerated this process, making more room for specialised distribution and new digital channels. In which way did you organise yourselves to reply to these changes? We believe a lot in the implementation and improvement of our flagship stores and online channels, but we are also convinced of the importance of identifying a common pathway with our multibrand customers (while involving in particular those that carefully preside over their territory). The aim of different forms of distribution is in fact the same: satisfying the increasingly pronounced needs of our consumers, whether it’s physical or virtual, in the place they would like to make their purchases. Once again, it is consumers who must be placed at the centre of the scene and we are the ones who must follow them. Do you believe in the post-Covid era that the timing of the fashion system must be rethought (the presentation of collections, discounts, re-stockings)? It will probably be inevitable, at least in the coming seasons. There is a huge on-going change that will probably reformulate the timing of purchases to coincide more closely with the natural change in seasons and real purchasing needs. How do you think pricing policies will change? The pandemic put many families around the world in serious economic difficulty. This could lead to a further drop in prices for the public, but I am prone to believing that, in most cases, we will rediscover the joy of making fewer purchases, but of higher quality, while rewarding those brands that are transparent and stay close to consumers. What role do you believe sector fairs should play in the near future? Fairs are by nature a meeting place for exchanges and interaction, and so it will
unfortunately take time to reignite mass participation by buyers and members of the trade, and I believe that their organisation must also undergo an important updating. Has the children’s footwear sector reacted any differently from the adult footwear sector to the Post-Covid era? The children’s footwear sector, like the entire manufacturing industry, was hit hard by Covid: production came to a standstill, customers stopped picking up goods, the number of winter orders dropped, and difficulties in presenting the SS21 collection literally wore out a market that has already been in crisis for a number of years now. In terms of sell-out, however, children’s footwear had a good sales performance, maybe because of the very nature of the product itself that is destined for growing children, or maybe because in a moment of social uncertainty and medical emergency like the one we experienced and which we are still experiencing in a certain sense, the focus moved to children. Many were
parents who chose Primigi for their children not only through traditional distribution but also online. What will the up-and-coming summer collection of Primigi be like? Covid most certainty did not stop our creativity or our desire to invest. We rolled up our sleeves by creating an important collection with a logical proposal, which however is filled with novelties and throwbacks to the most popular fashion elements. The result is a beautiful, well-appointed collection that will be especially sales-oriented. What are Primigi’s projects for the near future? Our Primigi Stores, without a doubt, will remain at the top of our distribution assets also in the years to come. Certainly, also the online channel and everything that revolves around it, represents a channel of great interest and development both in terms of distribution and communication. In any case, international expansion remains one of our biggest priorities. BAMBINO

Characterising the Candice Cooper proposal are quality leathers, meticulous manufacturing, bright colours, lightweight soles, and ultra-padded insoles that guarantee cushioning while walking, for a balanced mix of style and comfort. With the Spring Summer 2021, the women’s collections are flanked by a line of men’s and junior sneakers, always with the same iconic style of the brand.

The name derives from the Greek word “earth”, while the final ‘x’ expresses the desire to create well-being for people through innovation. In fact, since 2005, all the company’s actions have been guided by a Code of Ethics and Conduct which governs relations with employees and suppliers. The sustainable commitment also involves the choice of materials: all soles contain on average a minimum of 5% recycled material and the introduction of virtuous materials, such as natural rubber used in the New: Do™ line. Leather, the elective material of the Geox collections, is certified by the Leather Working Group, in order to promote the adoption of sustainable and responsible practices, and since 2013 Geox has been committed to respecting the international standard certified by the Fur Free Alliance to exclude any type of animal fur. The eco commitment also continues on the energy consumption front, with for example 100% electricity consumption in Italy and Germany (equal to over 50% of the total) coming from certified renewable sources. We also recall the special collaboration between Geox and WWF with a collection of footwear for babies and children featuring graphics inspired by endangered animal species. Furthermore, for each pair of shoes purchased, €2 or the equivalent in local currency is donated to WWF in support of efforts to protect nature.

#becausethereisnoplanetB: in 2009, this is the reflection that gave start to the adventures of this Spanish brand created by Javier Goyeneche. After the birth of his son, he began to reflect upon the world that would be left to future generations and how the excessive use of the world’s natural resources would impact it. From here, the idea to create a brand of accessories and apparel that was truly sustainable, by integrating breakthrough technology and using entirely recycled materials. The line of sneakers, for example, is made from recycled polyester derived from plastic bottles collected from the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea or with recycled nylon, while the flip-flops are made from 100% recycled tires. Sizes are from 35 to 46.

A desire for the seaside and freedom also characterises the new collection designed by Nomadic State of Mind, the brand from North Carolina first founded in the 90’s as the brainchild of Chris Anderson, who during his first years of activity, sold his handmade rope sandals from his 1969 VW van, which also served as his summer home, and at music festivals. Ever since, this ‘on the road’ brand has come a far way, but the nomadic and sustainable philosophy behind it has remained the same: comfortable and machine washable sandals artisanally made by a small community in Nicaragua with high quality rope and designed with knotted shapes to keep the foot in a correct position. Over the years, the sandals have been joined by bamboo, organic cotton, hemp, and RPET t-shirts, along with a range of artisanal products made from production discards, all in a pure hippie vintage-chic style.

Founded in 1982, the family-owned company Calzados Cienta specialises in creating high-quality vulcanised footwear for children. The production plant is located in Arnedo, near the wine region of La Rioja in Spain, a region that is deeply rooted in the process of vulcanising natural rubber. Cienta shoes are Green Trade World certified, confirming the fact that the entire production process, from start to finish, uses ecological materials that respect the environment. The materials used are in fact essentially cotton and natural rubber. The cotton comes from Spain and is obtained without the use of substances harmful to health, without the use of child labour, 100% ecological, while the extremely comfortable and flexible first quality rubber is directly obtained from the rubber tree. Finally, the production process does not use any chemical product or glue, because it is exclusively obtained thanks to the heating and pressure force at high temperatures that bind the rubber to the cotton.

Emotions are changing retail IN A SERIES OF DIALOGUES ON THE DIGITAL PLATFORM OF PTTI BIMBO, THE PLAYFUL LIVING OUTLINES THE CHANGES IN RETAIL IN THE POST-COVID ERA How does the concept store change in the era of Covid? The Playful Living, a design platform that focuses on the family, its relationships and the child as a person in its approach to everyday life, tries to weight up the situation in a series of events hosted at Pitti Bimbo on the digital platform of Pitti Connect highlighting a new equilibrium and new relationships suitable for quarantine and the “new normal”. “Designing a sales experience means designing a buying experience, that is putting yourself on the side of the person, his/her needs,
interests, desires, knowledge and perceptions - explains a note of TPL - Playing means engaging and arising curiosity, it means getting adults “buyers” and children “users” to join in a game that could go on sale”. The first dialogue “Emotions in post Covid retail” between psychologist Marta Rizzi and Sasha Stefanovic of WMilano highlighted new consumer methods: “the first reaction after the lockdown was a great desire to go out – explains Sasha Stefanovic – but compared to the frantic times before Covid, today
we are witnessing a desire to recover slowly and this can only be a positive aspect. After months of staying indoors, it is not surprising that, today, consumers wants to invest in products able to excite and renew that feeling of protection that their home has offered. However, many people feel the financial problem and purchases have therefore become more thoughtful”. It clearly follows from this dialogue that being able to excite is the key for the new retail: engaging, telling the story of the product, inviting to a path that can lead to sales in
both physical and digital stores ... these are all aspects that, today, are more decisive for sales than ever before. The TPL dialogue schedule on Pitti Bimbo goes on by continuing to tell how emotions have changed the retail in recent years and in the light of the latest events that have also changed the shopping experience, the rethinking of spaces after the emergency, the new store templates. But also welcoming multi-tasking and multi-emotions. A 360-degree overview of what future stores will look like.
