Women's History Month

March is National Women’s History Month, Yeeha!

This is not a feminist movement, this is about celebrating a strong track record of women’s accomplishments.

To all the incredible women in my life who have lifted me, stood with me and believed in me through every high and low and are still here doing it. Keep rising up, being genuine in everything you do and keep being authentic with your actions, your words and your heart. This industry/game is packed full of wonderful women who make things happen, make major decisions, help other people by mentoring through they’re brilliant leadership. There are too many to mention but, I have to recognize some who have impacted our growth and continued success. How about the effervescent Jenn Jolly of Boca Grove, one of the very few female General Managers in the CMAA (Club Mangers Association of America). Some others who move the needle every day: Christy Walcott from Gaylord Michigan, Mary Jo Paige from Fairfield Glade, Lyndsey Whitefield from Shot Scope, Mary Sicard from Tomberlin Electric Vehicles, Michelle Mambuca from Ave Maria, our talented associate Nancy MacDonald with Troon at Baha Mar, and all of the other gals supporting these fabulous women.

The entire month of March is dedicated to honoring women’s contributions particularly in the U.S. I celebrate all the fantastic focused women in my world every day (around 4 o’clock at “O” if, you know you know). Women’s Golf Day a global event launched in 2016, held in early June, with the initiative to engage, impower to support women and girls through golf. Founded by our friend Elisa Gaudet an author, industry veteran, true pioneer and a beautiful person.

I’m also honored to call Jan Stephenson a friend. This lady is the Australian World Golf Hall Famer, author, course designer, and a trail blazer with her glamorous image helping boost LPGA popularity.

Your vibe attracts your tribe and I’m damn lucky to have the dedicated pragmatic Shannon Coates at the helm as Editor in Chief, the devotion and creativity of our Chief Designer, Melahn Cable and for a year now the reliable Solutionist, Sara Rogers. Love these loyal ladies!

There are so many wonderful caring women in my life and I’m forever grateful!! Don’t be pissed if I didn’t mention you.

A Launch Monitor for Everyone: Shot

Scope’s New Easy, Compact LM1

For those who may have always wanted a launch monitor but thought they were too expensive or complicated, comes this bit of good news: There’s a new portable launch monitor soon available from a company with a sterling reputation for all things golf data, and it’s very affordable.

The new LM1 Launch Monitor from Shot Scope retails for just under $200. There are no subscription fees or any other hidden costs, just a compact radar-based launch monitor that can measure five key performance

data points to help you make the most out of your practice. It’s accurate, simple to use, and has an attractive, easy-to-read 3.5-inch color display. You just turn it on and set it behind the ball when you’re practicing on the range to start benefiting from instant feedback.

Because the lightweight LM1 easily fits in your golf bag, you can take it with you every time you practice or play golf. That last part can be particularly beneficial, giving you real-world readings on the shots you hit on the course.

After your session, you can sync LM1 with the Shot Scope app to analyze your practice numbers in more detail. While these launch monitor metrics are different from the on-course data captured by Shot Scope’s range of performance tracking devices, the app brings everything into one place allowing you to view your practice session data alongside your on-course performance data. What makes the LM1 Launch Monitor so attractive is that it focuses on what most golfers need to measure their ball striking.

Powered by Doppler Radar

technology, the LM1 tracks those key metrics, starting with carry distance and total distance for each club. It also measures ball speed and clubhead speed, so if you’re doing any speed training, this tool is invaluable. Finally, it measures “smash factor,” which is displayed in real time. Smash factor can be super important when it comes to improving your ball striking. If you’re not familiar with it, it basically measures how solidly you hit the ball, or how close you are to the sweet spot. In particular, a smash factor of 1.50 is perfect when it comes to the driver. A smash factor of 1.50 means that if you deliver 100 mph of clubhead speed, the ball speed will be close to 150 mph, taking full advantage of the COR (coefficient of restitution) limits that are built into a driver. In contrast, a smash factor of 1.45 with a clubhead speed of 100 mph would deliver a ball speed of 145 mph. The 5 mph difference could be calculated into 12 to 15 yards of less carry distance.

The LM1 really does round out the product lineup for Shot Scope, which continues to show its commitment to data tracking and improvement. The LM1 is the affordable, simple solution many golfers have been waiting for. And you don’t have to attend a seminar to use it.

The first production run of LM1 is already sold out, but don’t fret; Shot Scope is working hard to get the next batch into stores and golfers’ bags quickly.

Vegas Golf Boys Steal the Show at the Arnold Palmer Invitational

The Vegas Golf Boys, representing Vegas Golf The Game, became one of the most talked-about attractions at the Arnold Palmer Invitational this week, delighting thousands of fans with their high-energy personalities, iconic knicker outfits, and nonstop giveaways. Throughout the tournament, the Vegas Golf Boys handed out thousands of Vegas Golf “On The Course” Beer Chip Games, creating an instant buzz around the grounds. Fans lined up for photos, laughs, and a chance to grab one of the popular games that has quickly become a favorite among golfers and tournament spectators. “We were overwhelmed by all the attention we received,” said Wes Cimperman of Vegas Golf The Game. “At times we felt more popular than the golfers! What was most enjoyable was

the fun and excitement the fans created with us. The tournament organizers and employees were also a pleasure to work with. Honestly, we didn’t even have time to watch all the great players.”

The trio’s classic knicker look— paying tribute to legendary golfer Payne Stewart—combined with their Vegas-style energy made them a must-see attraction across the tournament grounds. Their playful interaction with fans and players quickly turned them into unofficial ambassadors of fun for the week. The buzz didn’t stop there. The Vegas Golf Boys drew the attention of beverage giant AriZona Iced Tea, who approached the group about creating social media content and even discussed the possibility of a future commercial featuring the team’s unique personalities and unmistakable style.

With their growing popularity, the Vegas Golf Boys are now bringing their fan-engaging experience to tournaments, corporate outings, and golf events nationwide. Event organizers looking to add energy, excitement, and unforgettable fan engagement to their golf event can book the Vegas Golf Boys to appear and give away free Vegas Golf products. Doggedly Determined Donna

It took me no time to recognize that Donna Larsen’s approach to playing and competing in golf could be described as “doggedly determined”. The definition of this phrase– acting with extreme, unwavering persistence and tenacity, refusing to give up despite difficulty, danger, or obstacles. Donna’s entry into the game, and relentless pursuit of success in competition, (rebounding from a significant injury), portrays a “player” that doesn’t quit.

Donna started playing golf at 38. Her son decided he wanted to pursue playing golf for the High School Team. Dad was working 6 days a week but made time to introduce their son to the game and asked if Donna wanted to join them (or spend Sunday’s home alone). A $300 set from Sears, some 9-hole rounds on community courses, and her passion for the game grew from there.

Primarily self-taught, and enjoying some early success, the next thing she knew, she

was hooked. Donna, like many of us, loves standing on the course, first thing in the morning, watching the sun rise, and the beauty unfold before her eyes.

Donna’s family has been a source of influence on her relentless pursuit of the game. Her 5-year-old grandson was playing with a friend at the park, when the conversation with a playmate turned to golf. The grandson told his playmate that his “Gramma” plays golf and is the best player in the world. As a result of him seeing the trophies in Gramma’s house, could he think any different?

When asked what she is most proud of, Donna mentions having taught herself to compete. She fought through having a nervous stomach when she started to compete in tournaments. Having overcome “most of that”, she feels confident when teeing it up. She was invited to compete in Palm Springs in 2021, as part of the second annual PGA Club Championship.  That level of competition taught her a lot about her game.  In a division of 70 players, she finished tied for 24th.  The confidence that competition instilled was priceless.  She is a five-time Club Champion in Lake Ashton (winter club) and a six-time Club Champion at her home course in Ontario.

I asked her about competition, and what she would change, if she could. Focus was first on the list. Mental fatigue can be very costly. Donna said it may not last long, but it’s frustrating. Overcoming and managing mental fatigue is a high priority for her.

Over the past 20, 30, 40 years, we’ve seen a dramatic evolution in golf, specifically and uniquely so, in women’s golf. Donna mentioned that her “biggest beef” with the industry is that women are treated like second class citizens. In the past 5 years she seen some improvement, but it still exists. Challenges getting fitted for clubs, shopping for shoes, gloves, etc. She mentioned that nowhere is it more evident that at the PGA

Donna Larsen

Superstore, where the Men’s shoe section has 5 aisles, Women 2. From club fittings to the condition of Lady’s tee boxes, versus the Men’s, all provide a level of frustration for Donna, and many female golfers.

When asked, “For someone who’s never played the game, but is thinking about starting, what advice would you have for them?”. Donna’s reply – “START!  Get some lessons, (not from your husband) from someone who understands how women swing, and don’t be afraid to go out and put in the time by yourself.”

Donna told me a story about volunteering at the Canadian Open. She marshalled at a par three, and was responsible for telling the crowd to, “Shut Up”. Her children told her that it was a good job for her. Now Donna let’s her game speak for itself, while her children and grandchildren revel in the fact that the matriarch of the family is leaving a legacy of how important it is to pursue life with “dogged determination”.

Donna owns Aitchison Lumber in Hamilton Ont. Canada and is super talented in woodworking.

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the AriZona Arnold Palmer Half & Half beverage, highlighting the endurance of the drink’s appeal and the strength of the partnership between two iconic brands: Arnold Palmer and AriZona Beverages. To celebrate, AriZona is launching a new Arnold Palmer Southern Style Half & Half Sweet Tea & Lemonade version of the drink, perfect for celebrating beautiful days on or off a golf course.

Golf legend Palmer created the mix of iced tea and lemonade early in his career and quickly became known for it. In 2001, with businessman Chris Byrd of Innovative Flavors, Palmer joined forces with AriZona Beverages on a packaged version of the drink, and its popularity took off. As Palmer explained in his book A Life Well Played, the AriZona Beverages version of the Arnold Palmer Half & Half experienced multiple years of 100 percent growth, eventually coming to sell more than 500 million cans each year, as it does today.

“Arnold Palmer was the real deal,” said Don Vultaggio, Chairman and founder of AriZona Beverage Company.  “He was honest, authentic, and loved by everybody. The drink that carries his name is just like him, simple, refreshing, and real. Iced tea and lemonade. That’s it. But when you’ve got a great drink and a great man behind it, people respond to it. Put a handsome guy like Arnold on the can and you’ve got something special. That’s why it’s stood the test of time.”

Arnold Palmer Half & Half celebrates 25 years a with new flavor

AriZona Beverages celebrates 25 years of the Arnold Palmer Half & Half with a new Southern Style Half & Half Sweet Tea & Lemonade flavor

as well, joining a Strawberry version and others.

“Our partnership with AriZona was built on the kind of authenticity that defined Mr. Palmer,” says Brodie Waters, vice president of strategic initiatives for Arnold Palmer Enterprises. “Mr. Palmer and Mr. Vultaggio shared a strong work ethic and a commitment to quality. Just like the drink, that combination created an enduring success story—one that happens to taste great. We’re excited about the new flavor, and proud to celebrate 25 years of a remarkable partnership with AriZona Beverages.”

“I still remember the day we sat down with Mr. Palmer,” said Chris Byrd, co-founder of Innovative Flavors. “It wasn’t a pitch; it was a conversation about quality, authenticity, and how people enjoy this drink after a round, at lunch, or on a sunny afternoon. That belief in simplicity continues to connect this drink to millions across generations.”

Palmer explained the drink’s origin in his book A Life Well Played: “Here’s the story,” he wrote. “I concocted it one afternoon with the help of my wife, Winnie. She had made a lot of iced tea for lunch, and I said, ‘Hey babe, I’ve got an idea. You make the iced tea in a big pitcher, and we’ll just put a little lemonade in it and see how that works.’”

Just like the mix of iced tea and lemonade, the combination

worked, with AriZona’s instantly recognizable 23oz cans and fair pricing earning millions of fans across the country. The new Southern Style Sweet Tea version will soon be available

Years later, as he told it, Palmer was at a restaurant in Palm Springs, California, working on one of his golf course designs. He ordered the concoction, a woman nearby overheard his order and told the waitress, “I want what he ordered. I want an Arnold Palmer.”

The rest, as they say, is history.

Stop missing out and experience incredible Vegas golf with Golf Summerlin where you can play three unique courses in one community just 20 minutes from the Strip.

In the first book, Finding the Green of the Gulf, Alba, the curious black-capped chickadee, is eager to take off on a flight across the Gulf and uncover the wonders that lie beyond the horizon. She hears captivating tales of a game called golf, which hatched long ago in a distant land and migrated across the world. Her expedition brings her faceto-face with humorous humans, acrobatic birds, a clever blue jay, and a wise owl. With friends Gideon and Zoysia at her side, Alba discovers the power of perspective, learning about declining species of birds, putting, golf, and how to approach obstacles both on and off the course.

The adventure continues in The Secret of the Pinecone Path, where Alba, Gideon, and Zoysia set off from the Gulf Coast to the Sandhills in search of where the ancient longleaf pines guard the wisdom of legendary golfers. Along the way they encounter clouds that look like food, screeching cicadas, and new friends like Mac the nutloving chipmunk and Edyth the tree kangaroo that hopped over from the zoo. As the group learns chipping and pitching, they also discover the power of focus, a skill that helps them face both distractions and challenges with resilience.  A world of adventures, wisdom, and wonder await you.  www.Brookelinpowers.com

For readers meeting you for the first time, where did you grow up, and what was your family life like back then?

I am the second oldest of five siblings. I grew up on a family farm in Kentucky, growing tobacco and raising cattle. I was also active in 4-H and FFA, and I played basketball and baseball. Who in your family influenced your work ethic the most, and what did they teach you?

I have known my wife since the third grade, and I’ve been trying to keep up with her ever since.

When did golf first enter your life—was it something your family did together, or something you found on your own? I thought it was for old men, but then, at the end of my competitive softball career, I

Meet Jim Hamilton

General Manager/ Head Professional at Sebring International Golf Resort

started playing golf in my late 30s with my brother and brothersin-law. We found it challenging but a lot of fun. We won our first scramble, and we were hooked.

Who were your early mentors (family, coaches, bosses) and what’s one lesson from them you still use daily?

Red Bresser and Larry Luebbers were my coaches in Little League, and they were excellent. “Finish what you start” is a lesson that I still use daily.

Tell us about your family today— who’s at home with you, and what do they enjoy doing?

All of my children are grown or in college, so it’s usually just my wife and me at home, except for breaks. We enjoy solving occupational challenges, exercising, golf, and ice cream socials.

How has your family supported you through career changes and big moves?

My family has supported me for 30 years in everything I have wanted to do. Luckily, our family supports each of our goals. We

moved to Florida for my wife’s new job. Each of my children have different strengths that help me a lot in learning new things, and I couldn’t do what I do without my wife’s support in everything I do.

What’s the best part of living and working in Sebring for you and your family?

It’s a very comfortable town that reminds us of where we grew up. It’s an inviting area, and we enjoy everything about it, especially the people.

What’s a typical “off day” for you—how do you like to spend it with your family?

My off days are usually filled with golf, the beach, or just relaxing at home by the pool.

What’s something your family would say you’re obsessive about (in a good way)?

Anything competitive and team-oriented, the Cincinnati Reds, and the University of Kentucky sports teams.

What’s a small family tradition you never skip, even in busy seasons?

Jim Hamilton
Sebring International Golf Resort

The Cincinnati Reds’ Opening Day ceremony, even if it’s at home with homemade cheese coneys. I’m glad there’s a Skyline Chili here near us in Orlando.

What are you most proud of as a husband/partner and/or father?

I am proud of my wife for being successful in anything she does. My children are also quite successful in their endeavors.

What’s the biggest lesson your kids (or family) have taught you? They have taught me patience in various ways. I have also learned that each of them sees happiness differently. I’ve learned to appreciate what that looks like for each of them. Their success is their own, not based on what I expect for them. How do you balance the long hours of golf operations with being present at home?

It’s not too difficult, because my wife has the same schedule and we are patient and understanding with each other. We make the most out of our time in each space.

What does your family think of SIGR—do they have a favorite part of the property or course?

My wife and the guests I’ve brought along have all enjoyed the Fork and Flame as well as the beauty of the course, especially the greens in view from the patio. My son enjoys SIGR and feels it prepares him extensively for his collegiate golf events. You earned PGA Professional status in August 2025—what did that achievement mean to you personally?

An old dog can still learn new tricks.

Your degree is in Agriculture with minors in Economics and Education—how do those roots show up in your leadership and teaching style?

The FFA creed is an embedded part of my style. Beyond that, I know what a

golf course really is, how to manage it, and how to educate employees. In teaching others about the game of golf, I find what works for each individual in how they learn.

Since you started in Sept 2025, what were your first three priorities, and why those? Earn the respect of my team by doing my part. 2. Engage the community. 3. Elevate the course to its potential 4. Elevate the community and make them proud to be a part of the SIGR family.

What systems or standards did you put in place so the experience is consistent every day? It starts with getting equipment up to standard, with everything running

exactly on time and everyone paying close attention to details throughout the day with a positive attitude. If someone hadn’t played SIGR in a year, what would they notice right away from arrival? The beautifully manicured landscaping and short course will be the first thing our guests will see. Next, you will be met by warm and welcoming cart attendants and staff that are actively involved in making your experience the best possible while allowing the course to shine.

What do you think makes the renovated course special—what are the headline improvements in playability and conditions? We have a brand new player development area for everyone to enjoy and practice. Our new TifEagle greens are possibly the best in Highlands County and our new Northbrige Bermuda fairways are now in top shape. Plus, we also have a fantastic executive course: The Speedway.

Looking ahead 12–24 months, what are you building next—programs, events, instruction, improvements—and how will golfers feel the difference? We are always looking for ways to enhance player development for learning the game. We always want the greatest experience for our members and extend that hospitality to everyone who visits us. Being accessible to the youth of our community is also top of mind. We are now ready and available for Tournaments and charitable functions… groups of all sizes are welcome here as well.

Most men’s lifestyle apparel is made for singular activities like golf, travel and hunting. But a new men’s lifestyle brand offers apparel for outdoorsmen who want to have it all. Club Country is made for the seasonal players who want apparel that keeps up, transitioning from the boat in spring to the golf clubs in summer and the hunting boots in fall and winter. Available now at ClubCountryCo.com, Club Country delivers performance pieces that work across activities,

environments and seasons.

Founded by Alabama native, former NFL quarterback and lifelong outdoorsman Devlin “Duck” Hodges, Club Country high-performance polos, buttondown shirts and hats go from the fairway to the field and beyond. But Club Country is more than a clothing line – it’s a mindset, a community built for people who value life outdoors, real hard work and tradition. The brand bridges the gap between traditional golf apparel and technical outdoor gear as the go-to solution for those who appreciate the best of both lifestyles.

“There are a lot of guys like me who love golf and the outdoors

but couldn’t find clothes that felt right for both,” said Hodges. “Club Country was built to solve that. We stand behind every piece of Club Country merchandise – it’s high quality and thoughtfully designed. And we’re just getting started.”

Made with high-performance materials, Club Country apparel blends Southern heritage with modern versatility. Nature-inspired colors, subtle prints and clean silhouettes allow pieces to feel equally at home on the course, at camp or out for everyday wear. Every Club Country item features the signature embroidered double-C brand icon and subtle Mallard feather tag detail.

Fairway Polos are designed

for performance and heritage, named after iconic rivers, lakes and destinations from Montana’s Madison River to Arkansas’ White River. Patterned styles feature subtle Mallard feather and rainbow trout motifs, while solid textured polos draw inspiration from places like Alabama’s Lake Martin and Charleston’s moss-draped oaks.

Feather Light Button-Ups offer ultra-lightweight comfort inspired by open landscapes and warm days with styles named for Mississippi’s Yocona River, the Ozark National Forest and the Mississippi Delta. Select prints reflective the rugged terrain and artistry of the Southwest.

Hoodies provide lightweight warmth for early tee times and cool mornings outdoors. Hats deliver durable, adjustable styles made for the course, the field, the water and everyday wear, and feature rope details mesh backs and distinctive colorways.

Strategically designed for future growth, Club Country is backed by an experienced leadership group with deep roots in brand building and operations. The company is supported by West Group Holdings, with Josh West and Nick Weaver as partners and advisors while Sheldon Nations serves as its Operating Partner. Advisors and board members bring experience from leading golf and outdoor brands.

“At its core, Club Country is about versatility in product and in lifestyle,” said Hodges. “We’re building a brand for people who don’t want to change who they are or how they dress just because the season or setting changes.”

Ocala-Based Investment Partnership Acquires

Legacy Golf and Land Assets

Oculus R Golf Partners to establish IronCrest as a premier residential community focused on outdoor, equestrian and golf lifestyle

Oculus R Golf Partners announced its acquisition of a 1,300-acre land asset in the greater Ocala area of Marion County, Florida. The property encompasses a luxury golf and country club and an approved planned unit development with more than 200 builder-ready homesites, supported by completed road and utility infrastructure.

Strategically located four miles from downtown Ocala and 10 miles from the World Equestrian Center, the site sits adjacent the

I-75 and U.S. Highway 441 corridor linking Ocala and Gainesville. Located on the site of a former limestone quarry, the property is now lined with spectacular lakes that define the landscape. The most prominent of these, Iron Lake, forms the visual and experiential heart of the club and provides an iconic backdrop to an 18-hole championship golf course. Formerly known as Club Adena, the club will operate as The Club at Iron Lake, featuring a 37,000 square foot clubhouse, spa, fitness and pool facility, and a racquets complex with eight tennis and four pickleball courts. The community’s name,

IronCrest, is inspired by the commanding view offered from the towering cliffs surrounding the quarry lakes and takes a double meaning from iron as both a golf club and a horsebackriding stirrup. This marks the first acquisition of its kind by Oculus R Golf Partners, founded by husband-and-wife team Craig and Elizabeth Phillips, both Ocala residents with deep ties across the golf and equestrian communities. They will lead an investment partnership, comprised of both institutional and private individual investors, that share a long-term vision for the development of this distinctive residential community.

Hole 17
Clubhouse

“We were drawn to this property because of the strong economic potential of the assets, the unique character of the land. The club provides a great starting point, due to its high-quality golf course and expansive clubhouse and leisure facilities, but what really distinguishes the property is the setting itself,” said Craig Phillips, cofounder of Oculus R Golf Partners.

Fellow co-founder, Elizabeth Phillips added, “Our focus is on developing the club and community in a way that responds naturally to the land and reflects the character of Ocala. As an equestrian family, we are particularly excited about the potential of the 355-acres of the property within the Farmland Preservation Area and the opportunity to create a unique equestrian farm community.”

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The seller in the transaction was Adena GC Holdings, LLC which is controlled by Frank Stronach, a Canadian industrialist who conceived and developed the property.

Birdie Coffee Company Expands From Golf Lifestyle Brand to Downtown Jacksonville Retail With PGA Tour Momentum

Birdie Coffee Company,

a premium coffee brand rooted in golf culture and performance mindset, has expanded into brick-and-mortar retail with the opening of Birdie Coffee Downtown at 1 Independent Drive in downtown Jacksonville.

Founded on the belief that strong mornings lead to strong performance — in business and on the course — Birdie Coffee Company has built a growing national presence through its direct-to-consumer platform while actively working within the professional golf community.

The brand has collaborated with PGA Tour caddies through its signature Birdie tour towels and has partnered with manufacturer trucks on the PGA Tour, supplying what it calls “the #1 coffee in golf” to fuel tournament weeks. Birdie Coffee has also been present at PGA Tour events, serving players, caddies, and fans throughout competition weeks.

“Birdie Coffee was created for people who wake up ready to chase something — whether that’s a better round of golf or a better version of themselves,” said Daniel Hanania, co-founder of Birdie Coffee Company. “Working alongside tour professionals and being part of tournament weeks validated what we built — this coffee performs.”

Co-founded by Daniel Hanania and Christie Blackburn, Birdie Coffee Downtown brings that same performance-driven focus into a physical retail experience. Located on the ground floor of the Wells Fargo

Center, the walk-up coffee shop is designed for downtown professionals, residents, and visitors seeking high-quality specialty coffee served efficiently.

The shop maintains a coffeefirst approach paired with pastries from local bakeries and operates alongside longtime downtown staple Akel’s Deli.

Founded in Jacksonville, Birdie Coffee Company continues expanding its footprint while maintaining a disciplined focus on quality, consistency, and community — from PGA Tour events to downtown Jacksonville.

The Life-Changing Inspiration and Quality Behind ChillAF Activewear

While we won’t reveal what “AF” means, I was recently introduced to ChillAF at the PGA Merchandise Show and found its story very compelling.

ChillAF, a lifestyle apparel and merchandise line, was co-founded by Michigan businessman Keith Klopcic and his wife, Ashley. In full disclosure, this writer worked alongside Ashley 20 years ago when she was barely out of college, working as a young marketing coordinator for NASCAR.

In 2018, Keith was diagnosed with what doctors considered a likely terminal condition, but he fought bravely and is still with us

today. After removing a cancerous kidney, he decided to “be chill’ and change his outlook forever. “When you think your life is over, that’s when you learn to live,” Keith said.

This second chance prompted the couple to sell their assets and focus on launching ChillAF. Following a highly successful debut in the surfing community, the brand quickly expanded into golf, receiving a warm and positive response from buyers eager to stock their pro shops.

The logo features “StickDude,” originally sketched by Keith on a cocktail napkin. The product range includes hats, hoodies, T-shirts, golf polos, socks,

tumblers, and beach towels.

“When he learned that diagnosis, Keith went to a bar, sat down, and created StickDude, telling himself, ‘This is how I’m going to live moving forward, because tomorrow is not guaranteed, “ said Ashley.

One item that caught my eye was a “StickDude” insulated pocket hoodie designed to keep a beverage cold, and it sells for just $80 online.

“We’ve been very fortunate to work with leaders in the apparel industry. I come from the sports world, and Keith comes from the beverage alcohol industry,” Ashley added. “We understand quality and what fabrics we like, and our customers want to

experience that same high standard of quality in the materials of all our products. We are focused on that quality even more as we launch new products this spring.”

Our ChillAF Top Choices:

The ChillAF250 Hat offers a sleek, fresh look with its all-white front and back mesh. Keith said that wearing the ChillAF250 is about showing off your relaxed edge, with a bold 3D-stitched statement on the front that speaks for itself—a clean and confident vibe.

Featuring a sleek cork front with 3D StickDude stitching and a breathable black mesh back, the Poppin’ Bottles ChillAF Hat is designed to stand out. It’s crafted for effortless style and all-day comfort.

The ChillAF Embossed Hoodie features a subtle embossed ChillAF logo across the chest, with flat StickDude graphic drawcords and

flat embroidered stitching of StickDude on the side arm.

A StickDude Insulated Pocket Hoodie is designed to keep you warm and to keep your beverages cold! This hoodie features a builtin zipper cooler inside your pocket pouch that provides a ‘backup’ when the koozie is empty.

Relaxed fit and soft fabric make the StickDude Graphic Hoodie ideal for everyday wear with a touch of personality!

The StickDude on Repeat Polo is ideal for keeping it chill with moisture management and raglan cut shoulders for enhanced movement while swinging a golf club. See the entire line at www.chill-af.com

2026 PGA HOPE North Florida Activations

With the Florida Swing happening on the PGA TOUR, PGA HOPE North Florida has several key activations designed to engage new Veterans who may be interested in the program, while also creating meaningful engagement opportunities for our PGA HOPE graduates.

On Sunday, March 8th, the North Florida PGA participated in the Patriots Outpost at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard at Bay Hill. Our team was inside the Patriots Outpost to

connect with Veterans interested in learning the game of golf or further developing their skills through PGA HOPE. This was a terrific opportunity to promote the positive effects that PGA HOPE can create in the lives of Veterans!

Additionally, we have been invited by PGA TOUR Superstore to select 10 PGA HOPE North Florida graduates to attend THE PLAYERS at TPC Sawgrass on Sunday, March 15th. These participants will have access to PGA TOUR Superstore’s private hospitality tent located off the 16th green. This activation provides an excellent opportunity to reengage our graduates while

strengthening our relationship with a valued national sponsor.

In April, PGA HOPE North Florida will host an informational table in the Fan Zone at the LECOM Suncoast Classic at Lakewood National Golf Club, offering another opportunity to connect directly with Veterans and share details about the program.

Finally, PGA HOPE graduates will have a significant presence at the 2026 Senior PGA Championship at The Concessions Golf Club. We will feature a dedicated PGA HOPE Marshalled hole each day, along with five PGA HOPE standard bearers displayed throughout

the championship grounds. These activations reflect our continued commitment to expanding awareness, deepening Veteran engagement, and strengthening the PGA HOPE community across North Florida.

NFPGA Members Served as PGA Ambassadors during the Wednesday Pro-Am at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard The 2026 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard Wednesday Pro-Am is a unique day for North Florida PGA Members. This is the event where members have an opportunity to serve as PGA Ambassadors and walk with each Pro-Am group at Bay Hill inside the ropes! The NFPGA Members that volunteer play an important role as PGA Ambassadors. They work to help with pace of play, assist the Amateurs in other ways, and help create an experience for the Amateurs that will be talked about for years to come. As they walk alongside PGA TOUR players and the Amateurs, each member takes great pride in being a part of one of the most iconic stops on the PGA TOUR.

Tyler Nagy: South Florida PGA Foundation's First Scholorship Recipient

“When you get an opportunity, take full advantage of it,” Tyler Nagy said. “If you’re not taking advantage of every single opportunity that’s given to you, then it’s a wasted opportunity.”

That philosophy has guided Tyler Nagy since he was named the first recipient of the South Florida PGA Foundation Scholarship in 2018. The scholarship gave him the chance to pursue his education at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, and focus fully on making the most of his college experience.

A valedictorian at Sebastian River High School in Vero Beach, Florida, Nagy had already demonstrated a strong commitment to academics, athletics, and service. The son of PGA Member Bela Nagy, Director of Golf at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach, Florida, he was a natural fit for the scholarship and arrived at Rollins in the fall of 2018, determined to seize every opportunity.

Between 2018 and 2021, Nagy earned multiple undergraduate degrees, including a primary degree in mathematics, a secondary degree in public policy,

and a minor in data analytics. He remained at Rollins to complete his Master of Business Administration, graduating in 2023 at the top of his class.

He was equally committed on the field. A five-year member of the Rollins men’s soccer team, Nagy played in 63 matches and served as captain in his final season, helping lead the program to an Elite Eight appearance — just the third in school history. Off the field, he served on the StudentAthlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and worked as both a tutor and writing advisor.

For Nagy, success meant going beyond the minimum.

“I tried to do everything I could do academically and athletically,” he shared. “I never wanted to look back and wish I had worked harder.”

Attending a private institution came with financial considerations, and Nagy acknowledges that without the South Florida PGA Foundation Scholarship, institutional aid, and Florida’s Bright Futures Scholarship, Rollins may not have been possible.

“It was the difference between carrying debt for years and graduating from my undergrad debt-free,” he said. “It opened up an avenue that I never thought was there.”

Today, Nagy is pursuing another graduate degree at the Johns Hopkins Whiting School of Engineering, completing a master’s program in data science. The degree builds on his professional work in healthcare analytics, where he has advanced from his company’s first data analyst into a leadership role overseeing analytics strategy and decision-making.

From scholarship recipient to graduate student and analytics leader, Nagy’s journey reflects the belief that opportunity only matters if you choose to embrace it.

Over the years, the South Florida PGA Foundation has supported nine students in their pursuit of higher education, and the program continues to grow. In 2026, the Foundation increased its scholarship to two $30,000 awards, annually impacting the lives of students in the community.

A Turf Pirate's Journal

$Fires, Function and Fellowship $

and stopping a fire. The purpose of this month’s spin is to point out the value of a good social fire and the need to have control over who you sit with around your fire (actual and figurative).

Greetings Turf Pirates and welcome to the heart of winter where cold days are just part of the charm of working outside for a living. Seasoned Turf Pirates all have spent some time gathered around a fire. It could have been a campfire, barrel fire, bonfire or in the old days we actually burned off dormant Bermuda grass in large acres in early spring, so these Tribal fires are tradition within the Ancient and Honorable Tribe of Turf Pirates. The key you see to fire ever since it was harnessed by our ancestors is control, a controlled fire provides warmth, light, and security. Fire is often transformative. The fire itself does what it does and follows natural laws and as such is another tool we have to use towards creating a better life. I have started and put out about a million fires in my career and while there does not seem to be a brochure or textbook on the subject, I know that every club I served expected that I could start or extinguish a fire of any size on demand. It’s part of the lore of being a jack of all trade’s superintendent. Now the purpose of this spin is not to teach the elements of fire making but you all know your tricks for starting, maintaining,

You see in the new world of AI and such we are drifting away from some old wisdom. Tribal Fires is one of them. The art of picking the spot, laying down the stones and sand, gathering, and seasoning the wood and striking the spark and watching the embers and stopping the glow when its time all create moments of growth individually and collectively. Plus, watching a good fire is relaxing and most of us have at least one fireplace in our homes so why do you think that is? It’s a mix of comfort, capability, and mastery. Do not play with matches is something we have heard for years, but every tribal leader knows that the fire, what we accomplish with it and what happens around it, is the key to survival and growth.

This month’s photo is from one of my Texas Bonfires and though you cannot see them the city Fire crew is parked off to the

side so we would meet all safety procedures. We never needed them and I always made sure we were prepared for unauthorized sparks. I learned a lot hearing the Firemen tell their tales and ask turf questions. Members love bonfires with F&B and blankets, so we add value to winter programing and social opportunities to bring the GCS and GCM Staff out in a slightly new role using these moments to talk turf and the upcoming spring transition. Building relationships while tending the fire. So here is the connection for the month. Tribal fires are ancient and can be used to bring all sorts of folks together at the club, GCM shop or anywhere you can safely manage a fire with purpose. Take some time to think back on your memories that include warming your hands around a good fire and who was with you. Smores anyone? Do you think you can make a few more tribal fire memories in 2026? FYI, there are multiple Fire Pits at the Galactic Headquarters of the Ancient and Honroble Tribe of Turf Pirates. Stay warm Turf Pirates and be the light that shows the way.

GCSAA Grassroots Ambassador program, which matches GCSAA members with congressional offices to build strong relationships between them. More than 600 GCSAA members currently serve as ambassadors.

Standifird, a 21-year GCSAA member, joined the Grassroots Ambassador program in 2019. He previously worked in Utah, where pressing water issues motivated him to join fellow superintendents for a meeting with Governor Herbert to discuss the golf’s important role in the state. After moving to Arizona, Standifird saw the variety of issues impacting his facility and local association. He decided to become an ambassador to help strengthen the industry’s voice.

He was first paired with Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and met virtually with Biggs, who is an avid golfer, to discuss water management.

Standifird maintained regular communication with Biggs’ staff to keep them informed of legislative matters that directly affected golf.

Standifird was later reassigned to work with Rep. Greg Stanton (R-AZ) and has also had the opportunity to meet with Sen. Mark Kelly’s (D-AZ) office alongside fellow ambassadors, industry partners and association leaders where they demonstrated how local golf courses are promoting sustainable resource use while contributing to Arizona’s economy. They presented the state’s Best Management Practices and water conservation strategies. They were also able to

Ryan Standifird
Curtis Wolford

highlight the First Green Program, sharing what the program does for both students and educators, as well as for the future of the game.

“Serving as a Grassroots Ambassador has been an incredibly rewarding experience. It has allowed me to be part of meaningful conversations, strengthen relationships between golf and government, and advocate for policies that sustain and grow our industry,” Standifird said.

Wolford, a 23-year GCSAA member, has dedicated his career to maintaining exceptional playing conditions while fostering environmental stewardship. He has served as president of the Sierra Nevada GCSA and the California GCSA. While serving on the chapter

board, a fellow superintendent, the late Jim Husting, CGCS Retired, encouraged Wolford to step into government relations.

Later, Wolford cofounded the Sacramento Golf Industry Water Task Force. He has since participated in numerous California State Golf Days and served on the GCSAA Government Affairs Committee.

At the national level, Wolford served on the GCSAA Government Affairs Committee from 2022 to 2024. Through the Grassroots Ambassador Program, which he joined in 2018, he’s been able to build relationships with federal representatives, most recently Reps. Josh Hoover (R-CA) and Kevin Kiley (R-CA). He visited their offices in Washington, D.C., during

National Golf Day, and discussed H-2B workforce challenges and environmental regulations.

“The greatest lesson I’ve learned is simple but powerful: tell your story. When I explain how a policy will affect my team, my budget or the families who rely on our courses, lawmakers listen. They need constituents to show them the human side of legislation,” Wolford said. “It’s not about politics; it’s about protecting an industry that sustains communities. Golf course management is more than turf and tees — it’s about leadership, responsibility and advocacy.”

Husqvarna Returns to the GCSAA Conference and Trade Show

Husqvarna was proud to return to the GCSAA Conference and Trade Show this year, an especially meaningful event as the association celebrated its 100th anniversary at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando from January 31st through February 2nd. The milestone highlighted a shared legacy of innovation and progress in golf course management.

The week began on Monday with Husqvarna sponsoring a sold-out Interactive Facility Tour, “Technology in Action,” at the Four Seasons Golf and Sports Club Orlando. The session welcomed 150 attendees for a firsthand look at how autonomous mowing and advanced turf technologies are being integrated into real world course operations, setting the tone for a week centered on efficiency, sustainability, and performance.

On the trade show floor, Husqvarna showcased its industry leading robotic

portfolio, highlighted by the Automower® 535 AWD EPOS displayed on the brand’s striking “World Leader in Robotic Mowing” ramp, demonstrating capability on slopes up to a 70 percent grade. Alongside established solutions such as CEORA™, Automower® 580L EPOS, and Automower® 535 AWD EPOS, Husqvarna introduced several new golf focused accessories and technologies, including a Vision Accessory, 4G Reference Station, EPOS Installation Tool, Solar Charging System, and Golf Ball Deflector, further expanding the ecosystem designed specifically for golf course environments.

Attendees also explored Husqvarna’s growing lineup of professional battery handheld equipment, including the new 550i XP Battery Chainsaw, 570iBT Backpack Blower, and 515iSB Backpack Sprayer. Together, these complementary solutions reflect Husqvarna’s broader commitment to electrification and reduced noise on the course.

Equally important was the opportunity to connect. Husqvarna account managers and Golf and Sports Turf dealers from across the country engaged directly with superintendents and course leaders, sharing insights and learning how autonomous mowing continues to transform maintenance strategies nationwide.

“As GCSAA celebrates a century of advancing the game, we are proud to support the continued evolution of golf course maintenance through robotic innovation,” said Dave Plaster, Vice President of Sports and Golf at Husqvarna North America. “We are committed to providing fully autonomous, data driven solutions backed by specialized dealer support that help superintendents elevate course conditions while simplifying day to day maintenance.”

With proven technology, specialized support, and a fully autonomous robotics ecosystem, Husqvarna continues to lead the future of turf care and help golf facilities confidently integrate robotics into everyday course management.

Celebration on Tour Brings Viewers Inside Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass

Golf fans recognize Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass as two of the most visible venues on the professional golf calendar. The Celebration on Tour video series takes a closer look at the agronomy teams and turfgrass management responsible for maintaining championship conditions.

Episodes 3 and 4 feature Arnold Palmer’s Bay Hill Club & Lodge in Orlando, FL and TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL offering a closer look at course preparation and the role Celebration® Bermudagrass plays in maintaining consistent playing conditions at these well-known venues.

Produced by Sod Solutions, the series highlights the superintendents and maintenance teams responsible for managing courses seen by millions of golf fans each year. Interest in the series continues to grow. The first episodes have generated more than 31,000 views across social media reels, YouTube Shorts and full-length videos as turf professionals, growers and golf course managers tune

in for superintendent insight and course stories rarely shared during tournament broadcasts. Bay Hill

Episode 3 takes viewers to Bay Hill Club & Lodge, where Celebration Bermudagrass was installed in 2016. Director of Grounds Chris Flynn oversees the property and the preparation

required each year for the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The club spans more than 400 acres between the golf course, lodge and marina. Arnold Palmer first played the course shortly after it opened in the early 1960s, later leasing and eventually purchasing the property. Flynn reflects on the responsibility of maintaining a course closely tied to Palmer’s legacy while preparing the venue for professional competition.

“We regrassed in 2016 and that’s when we did the no-till conversion to Celebration on our tees, fairways, approaches and collars,” he said. “Celebration was kind of a no-brainer for us. It’s met every expectation and has been a home run.”

TPC Sawgrass

Episode 4 moves north to Ponte Vedra Beach and TPC Sawgrass, home of The Players Championship. Jeff Plotts, who served as golf course superintendent during filming, discusses the planning and coordination required to maintain one of golf’s most visible

Bay Hill

tournament courses. Plotts retired last October after 10 years as director of golf course maintenance operations and host superintendent of The Players Championship. The episode highlights the preparation involved in maintaining consistent playing conditions at one of the most televised venues in the game.

A Look Across the Tour

Bay Hill and TPC Sawgrass are two stops in the Celebration on Tour video series, which also visits Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, FL and TPC Louisiana outside New Orleans. Each episode highlights the work of superintendents and agronomy teams as they manage daily operations, prepare for tournament play and maintain consistent surfaces on courses seen by millions of golf fans each season. Through course visits, interviews and commentary from the agronomy teams, the series offers a closer look at the planning and decision-making behind the playing conditions viewers see during professional tournaments.
