Cheers to the Years, the Fears, the Tears and the Peers along the way!

April 1999 when we had the first Press party at Tuscawilla Country Club, that we called a networking soirée. This was the beginning of the journey that led us to where we are today. It started as Florida Golf Central and evolved to what is now an award-winning Golf Magazine that cover stories here and abroad. This began as my advertising need for Golf Attic, a new and used equipment, antiques, collectibles and memorabilia consignment store, I owned. This is where I would normally mention all the connections, people that would visit the shop, Sales Reps, Joe & Jane golfers that helped me formulate the content ideas.
Then, I would mention the media awards, respectful recognition and all the many associations and charity organizations that we have supported with editorial and free ad campaigns over the years. We also helped with product branding and launches with major companies, golf destinations and communities. We are confident and proud to say we were part of their successes and glad to see so many are thriving today.
I am forever grateful for the Peers. Starting from the beginning, I want to tribute this letter to those who are no longer here in body. I was blessed to have Lynn Pelham my first photographer, Rick Harris AKA “Old Reliable”, Bobby Reed AKA “Baby Lou”, Mike Gooding AKA “Goody”, Dave Daubert, Preston Purdum (my Sonny Honey), Liza Mae Willey (Turf Life Promoter), Tammy Grace (my Loving Sister), and most recently, Becky Galloway (my forever supportive cousin). So many tears.
I never tire of my gratitude for the loyal, dedicated people here with me today. To know her is to love her Shannon Coates our Editor-in-Chief and Melahn Cable our creative, talented designer. If I keep recognizing them in LFP they can’t leave. So, Thanks for all your ideas, even if I thought they were stupid! The energy you give is the legacy you live. Your vibe attracts your tribe and all those corny things I’ve said thru the years.

On the left, a crystal trophy for “Days Low Score” (Billy Casper, Jr. -April 11, 1968). Next is a 1938 winners plaque given to Henry Picard. In the center is a 1960-style bas-relief winner’s plaque. Finally, a sterling silver cup for the low amateur who also makes the 36-hole cut. This one was for the great amateur Harvey Ward.
So began an article from a former editor of the Golf Collectors Society (now the Golf Heritage Society) magazine about the joys of collecting Masters memorabilia. The legendary event, held in early April and begun in 1934, is considered the first important golf tournament of the year. As its stature has grown, so has demand among collectors for items associated with the event, everything from plastic cups and colorful ‘gnomes’ to flag stick flags – preferrably autographed – tickets and player badges; a rich legacy of material that collectors covet. Some seek memorabilia because of its connection with Bobby Jones, the great golfer of the 1920s and the tournament’s founder, others due to the tournament’s position as one of golf’s majors and a few because any player worth his salt has made a mark on Augusta’s record book. Masters items can be found at all price levels, from ball markers and bag tags, to score cards and signed items. Prices range from the modest to many thousands of dollars for trophies and rare

collectibles. One Arizona collector concentrates on unusual, hard-tofind items: signed documents from deceased winners, low numbered Masters badges and signed Masters scorecards. Some fortunate souls hit the jackpot from the start. An
Atlanta-based collector found an original 1934 program with a first-day cover inside dated 1933. He did not say what it cost him, other than it was dear. Whatever your resources will allow, the thrill of the hunt is still the same. Veteran collectors who began by collecting anything Masters related, quickly learned to focus on specific items. These might include the aforementioned ball markers as well as volunteer and staff pins, commemorative pins, patron badges, golf balls signed by Masters champions and books autographed by Masters champions. Of all items, signed Masters flags remain a popular item as they display particularly well.
Want something a little different? Try golf bags or caddie uniforms. These can be found at auctions and sometimes private sources. Another collector found a check signed by golfing legend Ben Hogan, paid to the club for extra series badges. The same collector said he now has five Masters badges from 1962 to 1966 with low numbers (the lower the better, I guess.) Some of these,

however, can be quite expensive. Savvy collectors are careful with high-end Masters items, given the club’s propensity to aggressively pursue things it believes were taken without permission. In this category are such items as trophies and player-used bags and clubs. Other scarce items include letters or documents signed by Masters winners, especially the first nine

This flag was signed by both CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz and Jack Nicklaus in 1986, the year Nicklaus won his sixth green jacket. Nantz, who was calling the play at the 16th hole, said that ‘The Bear Comes Out of Hibernation’ in reference to the putt Nicklaus sank to take a share of the lead. The flag fetched $1,961 at a recent auction.

or 10 winners, and Bobby Jonessigned letters or documents.
The collector who bought that very first Masters program from 1934? He’s still looking for the 1935 program, which is even more rare. Jones, of course, represents a collecting category of singular interest. When that niche intersects with the Masters, you have a synergy that delights the Jones/Masters collector.
One-of-a-kind pieces are most highly prized, no matter what your
collecting interest. For one Jones/ Masters fan, it was an original painting of Jones by Wayman Adams, c. 1930, and a letter from Jones to Gene Sarazen informing him that the bridge on the No. 15 hole was to be named after him.
The Golf Heritage Society exists partly to create a network for collectors who can interact with friends.
Golf collectors meet in casual settings wherever they live, but also look forward to an early season trade show in Columbus, Ohio, as well as its annual national convention, which meets at locations around the country. These shows and meetings have proven to be an ongoing resource to find wanted items to fill gaps in collections as well as the sheer fun of meeting people who share an interest in the same hobby.
No matter whether you are on the grounds at Augusta National this early April, or sitting in front of your 60-inch high definition television, the thrill will be just as great as the back nine unfolds on Sunday... or you finally score that much-soughtfor item for your collection.

Military golf teams have a long history, rooted in fostering morale, fitness, and elite competition.
The U.S. Armed Forces Golf Championship, the longest-running Armed Forces Sports program, began in 1948. Today, top military players from the Army, Navy, Air Force (including the Space Force), Marine Corps, and Coast Guard compete in an annual competition between these teams. They also compete for positions
on the U.S. team for the Conseil International du Sport Military (CISM) World Military Golf Championship. The CISM’s goal is to promote sport in armed forces, all over the world. By promoting sports, CISM fosters confidence & cohesion amongst soldiers, creates military fit & motivated soldiers. It also enhances attractiveness of military service, identifies, trains & motivates talents and provides experience by international competition. The top six men

and top three women from the Armed Forces Championship represent the U.S. at the CISM World Military Golf Championship.
In addition to the Armed Forces teams, the military academies have teams competing in NCAA Division 1. These teams include the Army Black Knights (men and women), the Navy Midshipmen and the Air Force Falcons. Even some military schools such as VMI (Keydets) and the Citadel (Bulldogs) compete in the NCAA. Many of these competitors continue on with successful military careers.
Armed Forces Golf celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 2023. Some notable golfers who served include Arnold Palmer (Coast Guard), Lee Trevino (Marines), and Larry Nelson (Army). The Air Force and Navy have historically dominated the Armed Forces Championships, often trading the gold medal in both men’s and women’s divisions.
The 2025 Armed Forces Golf Championship was played at The Legends Golf Course at Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Parris Island, South Carolina. The tournament began on February 25, 2025, and concluded with champions crowned on March 1. This year’s Armed Forces Golf Championship came to a close with the All-Marine Corps men’s golf team leaving as champions in
the men’s contest and the All-Army women’s team securing the gold in the women’s team championship.
Brig. Gen. Ahmed T. Williamson, Commanding General of Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island welcomed the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, Space Force, and Coast Guard. He let the other teams know they were on hallowed ground to us Marines (Parris Island). Williamson also continued by saying “And if things get a little challenging on the course, just know that that’s the standard set by the Marines.”
Win and win they did, where Marines are made. The All-Marine men’s team won the championship for the first time ever within earshot of the rifle range where many of the Devil Dogs first began their journey in uniform.
The All-Air Force, All-Army and All-Marine teams exchanged the top spot on the leaderboard across the course of the week until the Marines took control of the top of the leaderboard after the third round. The All-Marine men’s team clinched victory on the final day after the back-and-forth clash.
Marine Corps golf coach Andy Hinson has coached the All-Marine Corps men’s golf team for 17 years. After several last place finishes and middle of the pack performances, he found it hard to immediately put into words what the win meant

for him and Marine Corps golf.
“I will tell you this, we knew coming into this event that we had, on paper, an absolutely strong team, but no championship is ever won on paper,” Hinson said. “They went out there and did it, and I’m just so excited right now, I can’t even tell you.”
The Army women’s team ended their week with a championship of their own on the Marine Corps’ turf. So, the Marines wouldn’t be the only Soldiers walking away with gold.
The top six men and top three women were named to the U.S.
Armed Forces Golf Team, which will compete at the 16th edition of the Conseil International du Sport Militaire (CISM) World Military Golf Championship at the Diamond Leisure Beach & Golf Resort, Kwale, Kenya from June 22-29. By reading this you may think I’m a little excited about Andy and the Marines winning the Championship and you would be right! I am a Marine and this opportunity to promote the Corps Championship, is one I couldn’t Pass on. Competitive Golf is everywhere. Congrats Andy Ooh Rah!!

HEAD GOLF’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection reflects a quiet transition — not an escape in a dramatic sense, but a subtle shift from structure into freedom. The campaign begins within a refined, modular USM environment, a space that mirrors our technical foundation: precise, engineered, intentional. This setting represents discipline, focus, and clarity, the framework that defines HEAD’s performance DNA. From there, the narrative gently expands, revealing how the collection lives beyond structure and into real moments.
Rather than relying on predictable sporting imagery, this collection centers on atmosphere and interaction. It observes the in-between, the conversations before decisions are made, the thoughtful pauses, the understated humor, and the

shared rituals that unfold within private club culture. Golf is presented not simply as movement, but as mindset: strategic, social, reflective, and quietly expressive. It is a space where personalities surface,
where ambition softens into camaraderie, and where creativity finds room inside tradition. The tone remains composed yet warm. Technical yet flavorful. Structured yet relaxed. The collection moves naturally
through environments, from considered interiors to open air, without exaggeration or cliche. Pieces are shown in lived-in moments: seated discussions, slow walks between ideas, post-round reflections, glances exchanged across a table. The energy is subtle but intentional, revealing confidence without noise.
HEAD GOLF invites a broader cultural perspective on the sport. It suggests that golf can belong to designers, founders, architects, and thinkers, individuals who value aesthetics, detail, and sense of individuality as much as performance. By reframing the game through a softer, more human lens, the campaign opens space for new narratives and new participants. It is not about redefining golf loudly, but about allowing it to feel contemporary, creative, and quietly alive.
Through this balance of discipline and expression, HEAD GOLF presents Spring/Summer 2026 as a reflection of modern rhythm, where structure supports freedom, and where the sport becomes a natural extension of a thoughtfully lived life.

A premium non-alc brew that celebrates adventure, freedom, and grit - without the hangover

George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman comes a new kind of beer - one made for good times and clear minds.
Crazy Mountain is a premium non-alc lager-style brew for those who want to live healthier without giving up the taste, ritual, camaraderie, and satisfaction of drinking a cold one.

live today.” Delivering a greattasting non-alc brew takes time and real technical skill. Using our process means we don’t have to remove alcohol after brewing, so we keep the integrity of the flavor from start to finish.
Each 12oz can contains approximately 65 calories and currently comes in two varieties: Original, a non-alcoholic take on a classic lager, and Lime. Both are clean, crisp, and crafted to deliver the same experience without the after-effects.
“This isn’t just a beer - it’s a choice,” Gerber adds. “Crazy
Mountain belongs to everyone pushing for more and wanting to live wide open - whether it’s riding the biggest wave, climbing the highest mountain, the fight they show up for, or the dream they refuse to let go of. It’s beer, only freer.”

For decades, the global golf traveler’s compass has pointed toward the links of Scotland or the sun-drenched coastlines of Spain. However, a shift is
underway. According to recent industry analysis, the golf tourism market is projected to grow by over 9% annually through 2033. As players seek more than just a well-manicured fairway,
Hungary is emerging from the shadow of its neighbors to offer a sophisticated blend of world-class design, Habsburgera opulence, and a thermal spa culture that is second to none.

From countryside vineyards to historic estates near the capital, Hungary’s golf scene has evolved from a quiet pastime to a premier lifestyle destination.
The Robert Trent Jones Jr. Touch: Zala Springs
Nestled in the village of Zalacsány, Zala Springs Golf Resort serves as the gold standard for Hungarian golf. The 18-hole championship course was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Jr., who utilized the Tuscan-style landscape to create a layout that is as aesthetically pleasing as it is strategically challenging.
At Zala Springs, the “19th hole” is reimagined as a wellness retreat. After playing the course, guests can relax in a five-star clubhouse or visit the Evergreen healthcare clinic. Here, the traditional “postround pint” is often traded for holistic treatments or thermal pools, reflecting Hungary’s longstanding reputation as the “Land of Waters.”
A Habsburg Legacy:
BOTANIQ Máriavölgyi
Just 40 minutes from the vibrant streets of Budapest lies a testament to Hungary’s imperial past. Following a massive renovation in 2025, the BOTANIQ Máriavölgyi Golf Klub (formerly Pannónia) has joined the prestigious BOTANIQ Collection, marking a new era of luxury for the Vál Valley.
The 18-hole course, designed by Austrian architect Hans G. Erhardt,

offers a technical masterclass, but the true centerpiece is the Cifra Stable, a restored 19th-century Habsburg estate now serving as a clubhouse and restaurant.Golfers can dine in a setting that once hosted European royalty, offering a unique blend of sport and history. Lakeside Stunner: Balaton Golf Club
For those who prefer their bunkers with a side of breathtaking
vistas, Balaton Golf Club in Balatonudvari is essential. As the first 18-hole course on the shores of Lake Balaton—central Europe’s largest lake—it offers views of the iconic Tihany Peninsula.
The course is known for its dramatic terrain, incorporating a former stone quarry that is now a protected nature reserve, providing a rugged, theatrical backdrop. The

back nine holes are particularly striking, winding through dense pine forests and ravines, rewarding precision and providing a peaceful escape from the city. Beyond the Fairway
The Hungarian golf experience extends far beyond these three titans. For a taste of history, the Magyar Golf Club in Kisoroszi offers time-honored greens, while the Greenfield Hotel Golf & Spa in Bükfürdő remains the ultimate destination for those who want their golf and thermal therapy in equal measure.
As the sport evolves, Hungary proves that a golf trip doesn’t have to be just about the scorecard. It can be about the vintage in your glass, the history in the architecture, and the healing power of the country’s thermal springs.

Another incredible year is in the books for the Monday after the Masters Golf Tournament, and we couldn’t be more grateful for the community that rallied together on the green. This event has always been about more than just the scorecard; it’s about driving impact for the next generation of golfers.
Giving Back to the Game
Once again, all proceeds from the tournament will benefit The First Tee program. We are thrilled to announce that this year’s event was a resounding success for the local youth. Thanks to your overwhelming generosity, we compiled: Over 250 donated golf clubs

A collection of premium golf bags New golf balls for training
These items are heading straight to First Tee – Clearwater (located at the Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club), where they will be put to immediate use. “I felt like last week I played so well, right until the end,” Fitzpatrick said. “To lose the way I did, it’s always disappointing, always feels like it takes a little out of you when you spend four days of your life battling to try and get that top spot, and to lose it right at the death is always difficult to take. So, this week was important to get back on the horse and try and push myself to continue playing well.”
Well… Fitzpatrick did better than that.
When Sungjae Im and Brandt Snedeker struggled during the entire final round, shooting a combined 8-over par, Fitzpatrick and Lipsky stepped into the spotlight. The two were tied with Jordan Smith at 9-under until Fitzpatrick sank a 30-foot birdie putt at the par-3 15th,

followed by Lipsky’s own birdie at the par-5 14th. Both Northwestern alumni missed chances at the par-3 17th, but Fitzpatrick stayed focused. He hit his approach from 118 yards on the last hole and finished with a 3-under 68— his third of the tournament.
“I think probably could have done a bit better on the body language and tried to be a bit more positive, I’m not going to lie,” Fitzpatrick said. “I think outwardly I probably felt like it was getting away from me, but inwardly I didn’t necessarily feel like it was getting away from me. Because I felt yesterday nothing really happened on the front nine and then I made three in a row. I felt like that was doable again.”
After the putt disappeared into the hole… Fitzpatrick responded with a well broadcasted fist pump.

A Timeless Celebration in the Tampa Bay Market
The PGA TOUR and LPGA TOUR launched the JC Penney Classic 50 years ago. Running for 25 years in Tampa Bay area, the event became a PGA TOUR “Full Field event”, with one brand taking on the task of title sponsor in 2014. Known as the Valspar Championship, just a few years ago… received the designation… “The Most Colorful PGA TOUR Tournament in the World.” “Regardless of what happens on tour, we know we have a good partner with Valspar,” stated Rondé Barber, Hall of Famer for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and general chair of the board of Copperhead Charities, an organization that has contributed over $52 million to local charities throughout the years.
Barber expressed gratitude for participating in his favorite event, joking that golf is his true passion, not football. He noted the Valspar Championship follows major Florida tournaments like those hosted by Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and THE PLAYERS.
To mark 50 years in the Tampa Bay region, the Valspar Championship committee hosted a Sunday “Meet and Greet” with past winners for fans.

What do you do for a living? I am currently working as a bartender at Cypresswood Pub in Winter Haven, Florida, I have enjoyed my time working there because of the laid-back vibe and friendly regulars make every shift feel more like hanging out with friends than clocking in. The cozy, neighborhood atmosphere draws in a great mix of locals who appreciate specialty cocktails and conversation, turning simple pours into memorable nights filled with laughs and stories.

What would you like to do for a living? My next big goal is launching and growing my own residential and commercial cleaning business in central Florida. Cleaning and organizing has always been surprisingly therapeutic for me. I want to build a company that brings that same sense of relief to families and local businesses. For families, my service saves valuable time, lowers stress, and lets them focus on what truly matters most. For commercial clients, it helps businesses focus on growth while boosting employee health and increasing productivity in a cleaner, more focused environment. Ultimately, I want this to become a trusted, family-owned local business that serves the community for generations to come.

flawless play; they’re found in how alive and capable you feel when you transform a setback into your strongest comeback. Life feels far richer when you embrace it that way.
Aside from golf; what do you prefer for fun and relaxation? I enjoy spending time at the theme parks especially at Universal Studios Orlando. I love the themed rides, shows, sites and smells of the parks. I also enjoy going to the spa for the day where I can put my phone away while I hydrate and rejuvenate. Another favorite of mine is going to the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. I love the lights bells and sounds of the slot machines and the feeling of having the chance to win the Jackpot! I find these 3 places extremely relaxing … well maybe not so much the casino being relaxing but it’s fun!!!
Relaxed evening at home, or nightclub and cocktails? I would prefer a relaxing evening at home watching a movie having a cocktail.
Name the three most important things to you in this world. My health, my amazing family and God.
My favorite food of all time is Spaghetti and meatballs.
What’s one thing you’ve learned about life through your experiences in golf or outside it? One thing I’ve learned from golf—and it truly echoes through every part of real life—is the thrill of recovering with sharp wit and quiet confidence when things don’t go exactly as planned. Imagine hitting the perfect shot and it still falls short.
Instead of dwelling, you pause, recalibrate with fresh insight, and approach the next shot as a new opportunity to do your best. It’s exactly the same in everyday life: when plans unravel, you don’t linger in disappointment—you breathe, strategize, put your best foot forward.
Golf has shown me that the sweetest victories aren’t about
What else would you like for us to know about you? I had a wonderful opportunity in my life to be full time professional dancer at Walt Disney World for 10 years. That was a time to remember! Dancing for Disney was amazing and one of the most demanding chapters of my life. Performing highenergy improvisation routines to live music, rehearsals, quick learning curves, and delivering joy with precision under the Florida sun. That experience completely reshaped me as a person: it built incredible discipline, resilience, and the ability to connect warmly with people of all ages. It polished me as an individual — sharpening my work ethic, boosting my confidence, and teaching me the power of creating meaningful moments. I came out more grounded, professional, and more passionate in everything I do.

PeakVision, featuring dualzone lens technology in its eyewear products, has signed as a Presenting Sponsor for the International Network of Golf (ING) Spring Forum.
The ING Spring Forum will be hosted by The Landings Golf & Athletic Club in beautiful and historic Savannah, GA. The event, scheduled for June 1-4, will be headquartered at the Thompson Hotel.
Two rounds of golf, including the annual Durland Cup and the Pro

Golf Weekly Points Championship, are on the schedule, along with several industry and host presentations, an open mic session, and all the networking ING is famous for. It will be conducted by the 35-year-old, non-profit networking organization, ING.
PeakVision’s mission is to end optical distortion in all sports, by providing the clearest and most technologically advanced sunglasses on the market. The company is constantly working to bring awareness to the game of golf, and benefit charity organizations across the United States.
In 1997, J Paul Moore, Founder of PeakVision, was studying the optical market and realized that none of the lenses on the market provided true undistorted vision. He spent the next four years studying the eyewear industry and developing lens prototypes, eventually creating the revolutionary patented dual-zone lens technology. He created a tool for sports enthusiasts that would not

only protect your eyes but also aid you by giving you the best visual experience achievable.
Traditional polarized sunglasses may reduce glare, but they also flatten depth perception, making it harder to judge distances accurately. The dual-zone lens sports lenses offer superior anti-glare protection, zero distortion, and advanced optics, giving you crystal-clear vision and precise depth perception.
The father and son team, David and Nicholas Feaser, purchased the company in 2017 and work to continue the legacy of providing technologically advanced sunglasses that were built to help you perform.
Feaser will provide an update regarding PeakVision during a 20-minute press conference and Q&A at the ING Spring Forum. It will be one of four press conferences during the three days of the event, which will be attended by golf writers, broadcasters and influencers, and other business executives.
The Landings Golf & Athletic Club is the premier private residential club of the southeastern US. Members enjoy eight restaurants, six championship golf courses, five pools, six clubhouses, three tennis complexes with 31 courts, and a 52,000 square foot wellness center, among other benefits.
The golf courses are diverse and outstanding, designed by Arnold Palmer, Tom Fazio, Arthur Hills and Willard Byrd. Each offers its own challenge and style, and all provide stunning vistas.

On Sunday, March 15th, 10 PGA HOPE graduates from across the North Florida PGA, along with a guest, were invited by PGA TOUR Superstore to experience the final round of THE PLAYERS! The generosity from PGA TOUR Superstore was appreciated by so many.
The group enjoyed an unforgettable day at TPC Sawgrass, with access to a private chalet
overlooking the par 5 16th hole on the renowned Stadium Course.
From this premier vantage point, veterans watched the best players in the game, relaxed with fellow veterans and friends, and enjoyed unlimited food and beverages. There are not many views better than the one that the group had during THE PLAYERS.
In addition to the hospitality experience, each attendee
received parking passes and $50 in merchandise credit to commemorate the day. The veterans had an incredible time exploring the championship atmosphere, walking the course, and seeing their golf idols compete at the highest level. A sincere thank you to PGA TOUR Superstore for providing such a meaningful and memorable opportunity for our PGA HOPE participants.

The field for the 2026 Valspar Championship at the Copperhead Course at Innisbrook included NFPGA Member, Greg Koch, PGA! It’s thrilling to see our NFPGA Members play at the highest level and showcase their game against the best players in the world.
Prior to the start of the tournament, it was clear that being in the field meant a great deal to Greg.
“It’s always an honor to be able to compete against the best golfers in the world! And to be able to share the experience with my family makes the week that much better. I’m looking forward to representing the NFPGA in the Valspar Championship
and I’m very thankful for the opportunity!”
While he did not make the cut, he did play some solid golf. In Round 1 he shot 5-over 76 and 2-over 73 in Round 2. Greg started on the 10th hole in Round 2, and he carded 1-over 36
on his first nine holes (holes #10 – 18) and 1-over 37 on his second nine holes (holes #1 – 9). His second round included a birdie on the par 3 13th hole and a birdie on the par 5 15th hole.
Greg competed admirably on the difficult Copperhead Course and the NFPGA congratulates him on playing in this event!

The 2026 South Florida PGA Play Yellow Birdie Bash raised over $539,000, a record-breaking number, through its annual 81hole marathon to support the South Florida PGA Foundation and the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation.
The annual event now in its fifth year features an 81-hole challenge across The Match and The Staple courses at PGA National Resort, where twoperson teams compete to make as many birdies as possible. Each birdie is tied to donor pledges, directly contributing to the event’s fundraising total. This year a total of 1,151 birdies were made, also setting a new record.
Proceeds from the Birdie Bash benefit the South Florida PGA Foundation and the Nicklaus Children’s Health Care Foundation. Funds support youth development programs, military initiatives, scholarships and pediatric health care services, including efforts at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital.
The event has become one

of the South Florida PGA Foundation’s primary fundraisers, generating more than $2 million in the last five years. The 2026 edition continued that trend, with PGA Professionals across the Section participating in both fundraising and on-course competition.
Forty-two South Florida PGA members competed in two person teams, combining endurance and performance with charitable outreach. Participants engaged
their networks to secure pledges, with fundraising totals linked to birdies made throughout the day.
The Birdie Bash format connects competition with fundraising, as scoring directly impacts the amount raised. The event remains a recurring initiative within the South Florida PGA schedule, supporting charitable programs through member participation and donor contributions.

A dream came true for three of Georgia’s brightest young golfers, who recently had the opportunity to compete on one of the game’s most iconic stages, Augusta National Golf Club, after advancing through local, subregional, and regional qualifying to reach the National Finals. Representing their communities and the state with pride were Kipp Madison of Augusta, Moa Kim of Duluth, and Finley Nelson of Marietta.
Madison, competing in the Boys 14–15 division, made his second appearance at Augusta National after capturing the 2024 Boys 12–13 National title. He continued his strong track record with a T-3 finish against a talented field. Kim, who competes on the Georgia PGA Junior Tour, delivered an impressive allaround performance in the Girls 12–13 division, earning a 2nd place overall finish while also capturing the first place medal in Driving. Madison is also a Georgia PGA Junior Tour participant, further highlighting the strength of the program. Nelson, competing in the Boys 7–9 division, turned in a strong showing as well, finishing 4th overall and securing the first place medal in Chipping.
In addition, Georgia PGA REACH was proudly represented by Foundation Programs Coordinator Jordan Haynes, who served in a leadership role during the Finals, guiding the Girls 7–9 group. Her involvement highlights the impact of Georgia PGA REACH staff in supporting and elevating junior golf on a national stage.
Congratulations to these exceptional young athletes for representing Georgia so well at the Drive, Chip and Putt National Finals. Their achievements are a testament to their hard work, dedication, and the bright future of the game in our state.

Turf Gypsy travels. Namely a hand painted Mountain Dew advertisement on an old, abandoned country store off State Route 74 in Georgia with the caption, “it will Tickle your Innards” no AI was used just talent and opportunity. The store has long since closed but the message and spirit of the craftsman’s intent live on. The second was from a cool newer hotel off Johnny Cash Boulevard in Nashville/ Henderson again hand painted local themed art, very cool. Yes, I do walk the line and stay at that

Welcome Turf Pirates to the Spring kick off edition of a Turf Pirate’s Journal. I hope this spin finds you well and living your best life. A quick update from the Galactic Headquarters of the Ancient and Honorable Tribe of Turf Pirates, the new building is up! Many of you have heard the tales of various permits, weather, and other notes of the process, just know that soon we will be completed and the home base will be fully operational. That said, this month’s spin is more about the Turf Gypsy side of things. I travel a lot. I spend on average 210 nights a year in hotels and I drive to most of my properties which means I see a diverse state highway version of the Turf Pirate’s square, which is Atlanta to Nashville to Kansas City to Oklahoma City either clockwise or counterclockwise about seven times a year. The key to making this life joyous is seeing the art and effort in the people and places I represent. It also helps that my bosses are great and our company is top shelf but that is another story. This month’s pictures capture a few of the standouts of my

property a lot in part because of the cool vibe. The third is a recent name placard from my speaking engagement at a RISE industry event to further the role of golf course superintendents as experts in environmental stewardship. The thread that ties all these things together is that we as Turf Pirates should always be willing to show up, travel, tell our story and see the local sites with a powerful sense of wonderment and joy. I know it’s easier to say someone else will go and be better than I am at everything. Not so brothers and sisters, remember that line
in the good book that says, “here am I Lord send me.” That’s the deal, just go out there and make a difference, each time I see or hear art in any form I am reminded that we must inspire each other to carry on to tell the tales worth telling and share the photos that stir the soul. For example, incredible food can be art, have you ever been to Springfield, Missouri where you can experience the world’s largest and best Pancake at Billy Gails restaurant or cross the highway and catch a “throwed Roll” at the legendary Lampert’s Café? If you have not, they both should be added to your bucket list immediately. I am grateful that over the next six weeks or so I will travel thousands of miles, see over twenty golf courses, work with amazing people and be on the lookout for the next item or opportunity of inspiration. Be the one that notes the notable and dreams in vivid color, no matter what happens around us Turf Pirates we always get to choose our attitude and that is our superpower. Until our paths cross again, be kind to yourself and others and be the inspiration others seek.

In 2026, the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America proudly marks 100 years of innovation, dedication, and growth for the golf course management industry. “Whenever Rhett Evans speaks, it is worth listening to,” said Mark Birchmore, Syngenta Head of Global Marketing, Turf & Landscape.
“His experience, insights and opinions are informative in a fast-changing industry where the need for new thinking, innovation and solutions is more prescient than ever.”
The Changing the Business of Golf podcast with Rhett Evans is now available to listen or watch.

Golf course businesses should integrate their superintendent into the senior leadership team, believes Rhett Evans, CEO of the GCSAA.
In the first of a new series of Syngenta’s Changing the Business of Golf podcast, Evans says golf businesses would benefit by superintendents having a seat at the table in operational, financial and strategic decisions.
“The golf course is the product,” Evans tells podcast host Gary Firkins. “Without it, there is no game and no golf business.”
Evans believes elevating the superintendent into higher leadership roles would result in better playing conditions, smarter investments and stronger alignment across organizations.
It is one of three key changes Evans proposes for the business of golf. He also calls for embracing Best Management Practices as a core business strategy and the building of more accessible and affordable

leading environmental stewardship and sustainability
Terre Blanche Hotel Spa Golf Resort, in Provence, has confirmed its reputation as one of the world’s most sustainable golf resorts by retaining two important certificates: GEO Certified® and Clef Verte (Green Key). Converting to drought-resistant grass and advanced water management were among the factors cited by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf when it assessed France’s No.1 Golf Resort.
Hector Forcen, the independent verifier overseeing GEO certification, said: “Terre Blanche’s long-term environmental vision has translated into effective, systems-driven action from the very beginning. Key initiatives include converting to droughtresistant Bermuda grass, advanced water management and onsite wastewater treatment.
“The greenkeeping team’s dedicated efforts to protect the course environment have also helped raise awareness and educate staff, members, and the

community, solidifying the resort’s role as a true sustainability leader.”
GEO Certified®, awarded by the GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, is the most respected international certification for golf, and recognises the resort’s actions on nature, resources, community and climate.
Meanwhile, Clef Verte is the sought-after sustainable tourism label bestowed on hotels, restaurants and other hospitality establishments by the French government.
Marc Delauné, President of Terre Blanche, added: “Having first achieved GEO Certified® status in 2016 and now retaining this label reinforces
our long-term commitment to sustainability across our golf courses, the wider resort and our residential community.
“This renewal, as well as that of our Clef Verte, recognise our collective efforts to protect nature, manage resources responsibly and support the local community. It also places Terre Blanche among an international network of golf destinations actively leading the way in sustainable practices.”
Terre Blanche is one of only three golf venues in France to have received the Gold Certificate for Biodiversity from the French Golf Federation and the National Museum of Natural History.
The 36-hole European Tour Destination was recently featured in an episode of The Green Report by Syngenta, highlighting the world’s leading sustainable golf courses.
Terre Blanche comprises a luxury resort and private members’ club, featuring a five-star luxury hotel, spa and Michelin starred restaurant, as

well as Europe’s top golf academy.
Just 45 minutes’ drive from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport – serviced by direct flights from across Europe, North America and the Middle
East – and set within a 300-hectare estate close to the French Riviera, the World Top 100 Resort is also the first and only Troon Privé affiliated property in France.

Celebration Hybrid™ Bermudagrass , the first release from the “Celebration X” breeding program at Mississippi State University, officially launched in September 2022. After several years in the market, the grass is gaining recognition for its quality and performance. As more installations appear across golf courses and sports facilities, industry professionals are learning that its management differs greatly from traditional Celebration Bermudagrass®. According to Mark Kann, director of Florida operations at Sod Solutions, educating end users about the grass is becoming increasingly important. “The biggest thing people need to understand is that it’s not Celebration and it shouldn’t be treated exactly the
same. It performs at a higher level with fewer inputs.”
A Different Type of Celebration Celebration Hybrid was developed as a cross between Celebration Bermudagrass and an African bermudagrass. The breeding resulted in several improved traits including aggressive lateral growth, strong rooting and a finer leaf texture.
The grass produces strong “carrotlike” roots while maintaining a dense canopy and refined appearance. Its lateral growth habit also helps it establish and fill in quickly both on the farm and after installation. “After installation, it is really cool to see how quickly the seams disappear with Celebration Hybrid. Its lateral growth is amazing!” Kann said. From a sod production standpoint, that growth characteristic is
also noticeable. “It fills in really quickly on top after harvesting,” Kann said. “In some cases we’re seeing it fill back in across the ground within two weeks.”
Early Performance in the Field
One trait that continues to stand out across installations is the grass’s recovery. Kann said golf superintendents and field managers have repeatedly reported quick rebound after aerification, verticutting and heavy traffic. “We’re consistently seeing how fast it recovers,” he said.
The Pines Course at Royal Poinciana Golf Club in Florida, one of the first courses to install Celebration Hybrid, has demonstrated that recovery firsthand. There, Matt Taylor, director of golf course operations and facilities at the 36-hole club in Naples, has been with
the club since 2000. The course installed Celebration Hybrid in the summer of 2025, and Taylor said he has yet to hear any negative comments from players. He also noted no signs of stress or seedheads, even at 90 degrees.
“This grass is not Celebration, it is really unique. It has a finer textured and darker green color. It requires considerably less nitrogen and develops a deeper root system than any other grass I have ever seen,” Taylor said. “We need to rewrite the playbook. The only thing the same about the grass is the Celebration name. I think with the
proper management plan, Hybrid is going to be a show stopper.”
He added it has shown quick recovery and establishment, attributing that performance to its root structure. Taylor expressed confidence in the grass moving forward. “There is nothing that makes me nervous about this grass. I’m super excited for the future and I see great potential for this grass.”
Much of the industry testing has taken place where Celebration Hybrid is planted alongside other bermudagrasses. Because those areas are often treated as a single
management zone, the Hybrid sometimes receives fertility and plant growth regulator (PGR) programs designed for more vertical growing bermudagrasses.
“Unfortunately, a lot of the testing has been done adjacent to other bermudas that require more fertility,” Kann said. “They’re often treated together so the Hybrid is getting higher fertilizer and PGR rates than it is suited for.”
He explained the grass responds well to fertilizer but typically requires less because of its growth habit. Kann also recommends regular grooming and light

verticutting to manage the dense canopy. Instead of heavier granular applications, he suggests a spoon-feeding approach with smaller nitrogen applications.
At Royal Poinciana, Taylor said he initially treated Hybrid like Celebration but quickly adjusted his approach after finding it responded at a 2-ounce rate compared to higher rates used on Celebration.
“Time and time again when too much fertility goes out it can have a negative effect on any grass. That’s something we want people to be aware of,” Kann said.
“It’s still a relatively new grass and we want to help provide the information to end-users so they can better manage Celebration Hybrid for their course or field.”
Star Turf Farms has been producing Celebration Hybrid for several years
in Florida, supplying golf courses and sports facilities as adoption of the variety continues to grow.
“Our customers who’ve gotten Celebration Hybrid have been thrilled with its performance and its minimal maintenance requirements,” said Jon Lallement of Star Turf Farms. “Everyone will like that it has a darker green color, requires less mowing and is more dense than regular Celebration but is still part of the Celebration family that has been such a key variety to the turfgrass industry for years.”
As Celebration Hybrid expands into more markets, turfgrass professionals are refining best management practices through realworld use. Early feedback shows the grass can maintain high quality when managed appropriately.
“We’re continuing to see how well Celebration Hybrid performs when it’s managed the way it wants to be managed,” Kann said. Visit CelebrationHybrid. com to learn more.
