Breaking Badd!!

Starting with the PGA Show in January and followed by the GCSAA (Golf Course Superintendent’s Association of America) Conference and Trade Show, records were broken for attendance and overall excitement since the pandemic. The crowds were huge and electrifying and showed up and showed off. I know our team did! It was nice to feel the energy and gratitude at both events when handing off the magazine to exhibitors and attendees who were featured.
The 73rd PGA Show drew more than 34,000 industry pros to central Florida marking the highest attendance since 2009. The event featured over 1,195 exhibitors across 1.1 million Sq. Ft. (and boy did my feet feel it) highlighting strong, sustained growth in the industry. You could feel the love, it was in the air, in our hearts, and in some of the inappropriate hugging. No just kidding, you know I love it!! The sign “We Love This Game” was THE spot for photo ops. It was fantastic to see you all there.
The GCSAA Conference and Trade Show celebrated the association’s 100 years of keeping the game on course with a successful return to Orlando Feb. 2-5. Attendance grew for the fourth year in a row, with 12,824 attendees (up 15% over 2025). A record-breaking 8,074 seminar seats were filled, exceeding the prior record set in 2008. In addition to education for superintendents, the event also included specialized education for assistant superintendents and equipment managers. These are our TURF LIFE people, the people we appreciate, focus and promote in the GCM pages every month.
We’re getting ready for next big PGA Tour energy…The Florida Swing! Starting with the Cognizant Classic in Palm Beach Gardens (Feb. 26-Mar. 1) and then Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando (Mar. 5-8), the Players Championship in Ponte Vedra (Mar 12-15) and the Valspar Championship in Palm Harbor (Mar 19-22). This stretch includes The Puerto Rico Open (Mar 5-8) opposite the API. Hope to see you at the hospitality suites where there is free champagne! Don’t forget to subscribe for free to GCM and win!!

Where did you grow up? Bluffton, SC
What do you feel makes this club special? This course is on a marine base and named the “Legends Golf Course” as a tribute to legendary marines past. Each hole is named after a different legend.
What is your favorite part of being a cart girl? What is your least favorite part? I love to work outside every day, rain or shine! However, I don’t love the winter cold. I am from the south, and I am 100% a warm weather girl.
If you weren’t a cart girl, what would you be doing? I would be a ramblin’ woman! I would travel from seasonal job to seasonal job all over the world.
What is your memorable moment working as a cart girl? Probably the time I almost ran over Fred, the golf course gator, and the largest alligator I have ever seen in my life. He was just lying in the shade blending right in!
What hobbies do you enjoy? Plenty of paddle boarding in the summer time, and roller skating around town. I’ve also just started learning how to crochet!
Relaxed evening at home, or nightclub and cocktails? A relaxed evening at home with my cats every time. Except for the times I feel like getting my groove on.
Favorite comedian? Jeff Arcuri is very quick witted and great with crowd work!
Favorite charity to support? Laura’s Little Critter Barn! It’s my mom’s animal rescue and sanctuary that has grown up with me along the way.

The 73rd PGA Merchandise Show
in Orlando last month featured nearly 1,200 exhibitors, the most since 2009, and included a plethora of simulators, game enhancement products, an array of apparel choices, and AI-driven technology in nearly every segment of the industry. If you could imagine it, then you could probably find it on a show floor full of products that ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous. Here are a few of the products that caught my eye.

STITCH GOLF INTRODUCES TECHNOLOGY TO THE BAG STRAP
STITCH Golf, in collaboration with Bushnell Golf, has brought cuttingedge innovation to a product category that has remained largely unchanged. The company has redefined the walking experience on the course through integrated, state-of-the-art technology.
This revolutionary patent pending design is embedded with advanced technology from Bushnell Golf. The strap includes a built-in Bushnell Wingman Speaker, allowing you to

stream your favorite playlist and receive automatic yardage updates between shots. It also includes a magnetically attached Bushnell Phantom 3 Slope Handheld GPS, delivering real-time, slope-adjusted yardages with a simple glance.
The strap is crafted from STITCH’s signature Touring Fabric and features ergonomically padded straps. It is no longer just a means of carrying your bag, but a fully integrated performance tool. The strap is designed to configure with any STITCH Golf bag and future adapters will be available making these straps applicable to any bag on the market. Currently available in both a single and double strap.
“This isn’t just a strap – it’s a game changing experience,” said Brad King, CEO of STITCH Golf. “We saw an opportunity to integrate smart tech into the most overlooked part of a golfer’s gear, and we took it to a whole new level. What no-one else has, now everyone is going to want.”

BRIDGESTONE UPGRADES TOUR B GOLF BALL SERIES WITH VS TECHNOLOGY
You might be familiar with the Bridgestone Golf Tour B series of golf balls, which have been bringing smiles to the faces of tour pros and amateur golfers alike for many years now. But you’d best familiarize yourself with the new VS edition of the Tour B balls, introduced at last
month’s PGA Show in Orlando.
Central to improvements in the new line was a R&D material discovery leading to the innovation VeloSurge, a coremantle integration technology that powers the performance gains across the TOUR B lineup. The VeloSurge technology delivers a seamless synergy between the mantle and core. The new material discovery features a denser mantle material pushing the Moment of Inertia (MOI) to bounds never seen in a golf ball for increased ball speed and distance. Testing with TOUR staff members Jason Day and Chris Gotterup, along with amateur players of varying swing speeds, produced average gains of 2.3 mph in ball speed and 8.7 yards in distance.
Said Day, “The new ball is ridiculous. I went to Bridgestone for the best short-game control, and now the new TOUR B X is giving me more ball speed and longer drives. If you want real performance gains, get fit for this new TOUR B – you’ll thank me later.”
After testing more than 240 prototype variations, engineers narrowed the field to four final VS prototypes that delivered key performance gains. These VS prototypes were intentionally named after the box colors of their corresponding TOUR B models—VS Red (TOUR B RX), VS Green (TOUR B RXS), VS Black (TOUR B X), and VS Blue (TOUR B XS). Bridgestone Tour staffers and amateur golfers tested these prototypes, generating the critical performance data that shaped the final 2026 TOUR B family.

HAL
SUTTON
STANDS SOLIDLY BEHIND THE MAKEFIELD LINE OF PUTTERS
Hal Sutton, a multiple winner on the PGA Tour and former Ryder Cup captain, has always been known for saying exactly what’s on his mind.
And recently the Makefield Putter company has been on his mind. Sutton was on hand at the PGA Show for Makefield and spoke to a room of media and International

Network of Golf members about the Makefield technology, and his days on the PGA Tour.
“I’ve never endorsed a putter before,” Sutton said. “I never wanted to — until now. Makefield is a family-oriented company with good people who make a great product.”
A key ingredient of the Makefield line is the radial cusp feature, lines in the putter face that help get the ball on the ground quicker and reduce the skid affect. Another is the X 3 weight system that goes through the equator of the ball, not under the ball.
The company also features four different hosels with lie angles that go from 66 to 74 degrees. It’s all part of the Makefield fitting system, which allows you to personalize the entire club to your game. You can even have your name engraved onto the putter head.

GREENKEEPERS TEES IT UP WITH TALON Z
GreenKeepers added to its impressive lines of products with the Talon Z. This tee crosses over between GreenKeepers’ 4 Yards More and Survivor Tee lines.
Offering a copolymer construction performance tee with a larger crown than the traditional Survivor Tee for ease of ball placement, but still providing the golfer with all of the benefits of the
performance of the low ball-spin and longer distance and durability provided across all of the tee products at competitive pricing.
The Talon Z which is available in both 3 1/4” and 2 3/4” lengths. Production shipments will begin in late March, but Talon Z promises to be worth the wait.

CERTIFRESH ADDS TWO PREMIUM CIGARS TO ITS LINEUP
One of golf’s smartest and most practical products just added a little more quality to an already impressive line of cigars.
CertiFresh Cigar®, a leading provider of premium cigars to golf clubs, resorts and casinos around the country, added two new premier cigars to is already impressive line at the PGA Show.
For over 25 years, CertiFresh Cigar® has offered the finest brandname cigars that are delivered in a perfectly humidified custom package. Boveda’s patented two-way humidity control device is the cornerstone of CertiFresh packaging. Freshness of cigars is guaranteed for one year due to the packaging, so golf courses do not have to maintain a traditional humidor to carry the product.
The two new cigars added to the CertiFresh lineup are Cohiba Blue Toro and the New World Oscuro by AJ Fernandez.
“These two beautifully crafted cigars really round out our outstanding lineup of premium cigars for CertiFresh,” said CertiFresh co-owner Eric Nelson. “We’re excited to add them to our offerings.”
CertiFresh is also adding the Winston Churchill Belicoso by Davidoff to its 4 Pack line-up this year.
“Our 4-Pack product has been a great success since we brought these into our lineup two seasons ago,” said Nelson. “They are designed for the golfers that want a postround cigar with a cocktail, or a shorter smoke on the course.”

Military Base Golf Courses A Morale, Welfare and Recreation Asset
By Rocky Miller USAF
The connection between golf and the military supposedly goes all the way back to 1457 when King James of Scotland was so concerned that his soldiers were skipping archery practice for rounds of golf that he banned the game from the country. The relationship between the military and the sport of golf is a much friendlier one these days – as evidenced by the fact that the United States Armed Forces currently operates over 140 golf courses. In fact, the military is actually one of the five largest golf course management businesses in the country. The game of golf is seen as a valuable recreational activity for uniformed personnel who encounter regular stress and endure long deployments. Since 2011, military golf courses in the United States must be self-supporting by law. Many are open to the public, and research by the National Golf Foundation indicates that one out of every five golfers has teed it up at a military course at least once.
Military golf courses serve
as vital Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) assets, offering affordable recreation, stress relief, physical activity, and community for service members, veterans, and families, while also strategically preserving large, open, and secure land areas for potential contingency use. Benefits include improved mental health (reducing anxiety/depression), physical fitness, social bonding, and providing a “bridge” for healing for wounded warriors, all while being self-sustaining through revenue.
Golf is a setting that facilitates networking and bonding among service members of different ranks in a less formal setting. This is a place where a Private can beat up on his superior officer without repercussions and enjoy the camaraderie!
There is also a practical side to maintaining large, open tracts of land on a base.
Contingency Land Use: In an emergency or during a conflict, a golf course is a pre-cleared, flat area that can be quickly repurposed for helicopter landing
zones, troop staging, or even temporary mass-casualty sites.
Buffer Zones: Golf courses often serve as “noise buffers” or safety zones between active runways/ training ranges and housing areas.
History: Many courses were built in the mid-20th century (specifically during the Eisenhower era) when golf was the dominant social sport for leadership. Once the land is developed as a course, it is often cheaper to maintain it through player fees than to demolish it and build something else.
Golf has been the go-to leisure sport for veterans for centuries. However, some veteran players honed their skills well enough to turn professional when their military commitments were over. Arnold Palmer won weekend tournaments while serving three years in the Coast Guard. Lee Trevino hit untold thousands of golf balls during his four-year turn in the Marines before going on to win 29 PGA tournaments and six majors. Trevino won the 1968 United States Open and the
following year Orville Moody, who had surrendered his 14-year Army career only a year earlier, won the championship. Career infantry officer Earl Woods did not begin playing golf until the age of 42, in his last year of service. When his son Eldrick “Tiger” was old enough to play golf at about the age of three, he began playing at the Seal Beach Navy Golf Course in Cypress, California. Young Eldrick shot a 48 that year when he was just three years old and his scores have come down ever since. So, I guess it’s never too young to start!
Golf has more to do with presidential history than any other sport. Generally, most U.S. presidents are golf enthusiasts, using the sport to cope with the stress and pressures of the White House. It’s also a method to build relationships and negotiate with political allies. Our current president owns or operates 15-18 courses world-wide.
There is a strong relationship between golf and the Oval Office, with the history stretching back more than a century. Nearly every Commander and Chief in the last 75 years has played golf at some point. The last time a president didn’t play golf was Jimmy Carter, more than 41 years ago, with sixteen of the last 19 presidents having taken to the golf

These Military Golf facilities are vital for the health and wellbeing of our Service members (past and present). Organizations supporting military golf courses focus on improving facilities and providing rehabilitation for veterans, headlined by PGA HOPE, which offers free, PGA-led instruction nationwide. Other key groups include Operation Support Military Golf (upgrading courses),
Veteran Golfers Association (tournaments), Salute Military Golf Association (rehabilitation), and Golf for Freedom. Jianna Bona, MD

Where were you born? Did you grow up there? I was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but I would say I grew up in Celebration, Florida. We moved here when I was 5 as one of the original residents and it is truly my favorite place in the world!
Is “acting your age” overrated? I think “acting your age” can be overrated by limiting curiosity, creativity, or enthusiasm. What matters more to me is acting with maturity, taking responsibility for your actions, communicating well, and adapting to situations. I believe growth is less about fitting an age-based expectation and more about continuously learning, staying openminded, and bringing your best self forward.
What do you do for a living? I am a family medicine doctor, working my dream job at Winnie Palmer Hospital.
What would you like to do for a living? While I absolutely love what I do, I have always wanted to be a bridal consultant (specifically at Kleinfeld Bridal) to help women feel their most beautiful on their big day.
Aside from golf; what do you prefer for fun and relaxation? Living in Disney’s backyard, I enjoy going to the parks to walk around, people watch, and eat and drink (usually around the world at Epcot). Otherwise, I am probably hanging out with family and friends, at Pure Barre, laying by the pool, reading a good book or binge watching some trash television with a diamond painting in my hand.
What golf apparel do you like to wear? I typically wear a matching skort and sleeveless polo with light layers on top.
Calia is one of my favorite brands. Living in Central Florida we are fortunate for beautiful weather all year round, however last week I played wearing 3 long sleeve layers. Brrr. I also found a great golf dress when I was recently in Singapore and wish I bought a few more.
Steak, chicken, or seafood? Medium rare steak, but growing up in the family restaurant business I am such a foodie.
Tell us something about yourself that only your closest friends know. My close friends know that I exclusively back into parking spots. When I pull in, I look like I barely passed my driver’s test.
What three things would you need to survive on a deserted island? If we're talking practical items, I would need a reliable way to make fire, some type of multitool and a solar phone because I’m brave, not foolish. If I couldn’t have a phone, I would probably take a hammock instead.
Who would you like to have with you on the same deserted island; and why? My mom. She is very resourceful
and calm under pressure so we might have a chance. She is also my best friend and regardless, we would turn it into a fun little vacation.
What do you find to be the most annoying habit people demonstrate on the golf course? Loud music and walking across a putting line on the green.
What do you fear the most? Unexpected loss and death, which likely stems from my choice of career.
What three people would you most like to play with in your fantasy golf foursome? My dad, Arnold Palmer, and Donald Trump.
What are some of your great accomplishments? I earned my seconddegree black belt in Taekwondo. I was a competitive baton twirler for 10 years. I learned how to play golf in high school and was on the varsity team for 3 years. I am proud of becoming a doctor because medical school is hard and residency is harder. Overall, I am proud of my growth, resilience, and the way in which I treat others.
Favorite comedian? Nikki Glaser, hands down. She is hysterical and such a real person.
Favorite television channel? Dateline 24/7. If you know, you know. Or TLC because I love watching 90 Day Fiancé too.
Last book you read? Verity by Colleen Hoover. Great book, would definitely recommend! And I hear it is going to be movie later this year.
Favorite charity to support? We have so many great charities to support in Central Florida. Two of my favorites are the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation and Give Kids the World.
What else would you like for us to know about you? I juggle well and show off that skill almost any time the opportunity presents itself (usually at the bar with lemons or limes, which ironically is also how I learned). Deeper than that, I consider myself to be an extroverted introvert and I am an old soul at heart.

NBA Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas Unveils Luxury Kosher Champagne
Isiah Thomas, owner-operator of Cheurlin Champagne, is redefining the luxury kosher wine category with the launch of his premium kosher Champagne collection, created in collaboration with the historic Cheurlin Champagne House.
A two-time NBA Champion, 12time NBA All-Star, and Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, Thomas, expands the Cheurlin portfolio in the U.S. with kosher Champagnes crafted to stand among the world’s finest—uniting centuries-old French winemaking tradition with modern standards of luxury, wellness, and cultural relevance.
The Isiah Thomas Kosher Cheurlin Collection debuted February 3, 2026 at the Kosher Food & Wine Experience at The World of Blue Hotel, E. Rutherford, NJ.
Produced in France’s Aube region, Thomas’s Cheurlin Champagnes— both kosher and non-kosher—are made without added sugar and use only the first press of estategrown Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Blanc grapes. Thomas’s kosher collection signals a major
milestone for the category, firmly positioning kosher Champagne within the ultra-premium global wine conversation.
The Isiah Thomas Kosher Cheurlin Champagne Collection Includes:
• Cheurlin Brut Spéciale
A refined blend of 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, offering notes of crisp apple, bright citrus, and signature Champagne minerality, with balance and elegance.
• Cheurlin Thomas Célébrité
A Zero Dosage Blanc de Blancs, crafted for Champagne purists and health-conscious consumers seeking precision, purity, and terroir-driven minerality.
Once considered a niche segment, kosher wine has evolved into a critically acclaimed category, earning recognition from leading wine authorities. Thomas’s entry into Champagne— the most prestigious wine region in the world—underscores this transformation, bringing cultural influence, authenticity, and luxury together in a single bottle.
“I wanted to create something that honored tradition while
reflecting where wine culture is headed,” says Isiah Thomas. “My partnership with the Cheurlin family—nine generations of luxury Champagne producers— adds heritage and credibility, allowing my kosher wines to stand shoulder to shoulder with the world’s best.”
“As the global leader in fine kosher wines, Royal Wine Corp. is honored to partner with NBA legend and entrepreneur Isiah Thomas to bring his prestigious Cheurlin Champagne house into the kosher market. This collaboration represents a significant milestone in our mission to offer unparalleled luxury and quality. By combining centuries of French winemaking tradition with the modern excellence of the Cheurlin brand, we are redefining what is possible in the luxury champagne category for our consumers worldwide,” said Nathan Herzog, President, Royal Wine Corp.
Thomas’s kosher Champagne collection will be officially introduced in time for Passover 2026, when nearly 40 percent of kosher wine sales occur.

In 2023, Susi Proudman founded
Williams Athletic Club with a clear vision: to redefine women’s golf apparel by blending high style with performance functionality.
Drawing on more than 30 years of global apparel industry experience with iconic brands including Marks & Spencer, Nike, lululemon, and Aritzia, Proudman brings a unique perspective to golf — one that merges technical innovation with timeless, sophisticated design. Her collections are built on classic wardrobe pieces in a refined palette of core colors, designed to be elevated with bold hues or softened with neutral tones. The result is apparel that performs on the course but transitions seamlessly into everyday life — modern, versatile, and distinctly personal, just like the golfers who wear it.
The name Williams Athletic Club is both deeply personal and
strategically crafted. Williams is her son’s middle name, one passed down through generations, and also a nod to golf’s rich tradition. In an industry still largely male-dominated, its established, masculine tone has opened doors and sparked curiosity. Buyers and partners often assume it’s a men’s brand — only to discover that Williams is entirely devoted to women golfers. That reveal has become part of its intrigue and success.
The word Athletic underscores the brand’s technical performance approach, with fabrics engineered for movement, breathability, and function — even in pieces as tailored as pant suits. Club reflects the lifestyle the brand
Day One

embodies: chic, elevated dressing rooted in country club heritage but designed for modern versatility.
Golf has always been part of Proudman’s story. She grew up in Lytham St Annes, a seaside town in England steeped in golf tradition and home to Royal Lytham & St Annes, host of 11 Open Championships. She vividly remembers Seve Ballesteros’ 1988 victory as a defining moment in her community, one that deepened her lifelong fascination with the sport. Today, golf remains a family passion — her son plays collegiate golf in Illinois, keeping the spirit alive across generations.
Proudman founded Williams Athletic Club to challenge the status quo in women’s golf apparel. After
years of seeing the category reduced to basic printed polyester basics, she set out to bring true innovation, craft, and style back to the game. “If our offering doesn’t make women pause and rethink what golf apparel can be, then we’re not doing our job. Innovation means pushing beyond expected styles and materials to create pieces that elevate both function and fashion — taking the consumer somewhere she didn’t even know she needed to go.”
With Williams Athletic Club, Proudman has created a brand where heritage, style, and performance converge, empowering women to look and feel their best — on the green and beyond.

Where were you born? Did you grow up there? In my Christian Slater voice…New Jersey, Trenton, New Jersey.
Where are you located and what club do you play at? I live in Tampa, FL and I mainly play out of Westchase Golf Club. It’s a fun but challenging course that I find is great for prep. When I’m not in Tampa, there’s a course called Royal St. Cloud outside of Orlando that is one of my favorites.
Is “acting your age” overrated?
Extremely overrated. If Robin Williams was here with us, he’d tell you the same thing.
What do you do for a living? Married to the game of golf! Outside of that, I’m an IT nerd.
What would you like to do for a living?
Honestly, getting my Korn Ferry Tour card and then my PGA Tour card. It’s a tough road, but well worth it!
What golf apparel do you like to wear?
Not really a huge apparel guy. I live in Florida so it’s mostly shorts and a polo. If it’s competition though, I’m a fan of the 90’s era flowing style.
Favorite brand of clubs to play?
Love my Mizuno MP18’s!!! Those are my main go-to clubs for events; along with my Vokey wedges, Scotty, and Sim2 Max 9 degree driver.
What do you find to be the most annoying habit people demonstrate on the golf course? Slow Play… You can’t be bad AND slow. Learning to keep pace is also part of the game of golf.
What do you fear the most?
Fear: nothing; highly dislike: snakes.
Dustin McClease Overton

What three people would you most like to play with in your fantasy golf foursome?
Well, I’ve been on set and on the golf course with Tiger, so that’s scratched off my bucket-list. I’d say Jesus, Bob Jones, and for a third, my dad. Who, by the way, is NOT a golfer by any stretch of the imagination.
-What are some of your great accomplishments?
Golf related, four Hole In One’s, filming with Team TaylorMade on various occasions, being selected as talent for Cobra and Golf Galaxy/Dicks sporting goods. Competing alongside some of the best golfers and Pro’s in the world at PGA Tour qualifying events, and going strong into another new season of competitive golf!
Last time you spewed something through your nose from laughing so hard? “That I can vividly recall… being on the tee box with Tiger, DJ, Rory and the director giving all of us cue marks and instructions while next door someone was having yard work done. We could hardly hear what was going on so we were looking at each other laughing and someone started mimicking the teacher from Charlie Brown… All of us starting laughing hysterically.
Favorite comedian?
Past… Richard Pryor. Present… Dave Chappelle!
Last book you read? I read my bible every day, but as in a singular book in its entirety, Big Bad Wolf by James Patterson.
News, current events; hardcopy or on-line?
I’m going to say on-line. Multiple outlets and easy access. However, I find myself fact-checking everything that’s digital these days. AI is out of control! (Laughing)
What else would you like for us to know about you?
Well ,I’m always looking for sponsors for events and to further my professional career!
All in all, I’m just a guy getting in my swings every day for a bigger purpose! Hopefully we’ll be Tour-Bound in the near future!

Bangkok: Asia’s Temple of Golf
By Dave Finn

Bangkok, Thailand’s bustling capital, is not only the world’s most visited city—with over 30 million arrivals in 2025—but also the heart of Asian golf tourism. With 317 courses spread across the country and an estimated 700,000 golf tourists arriving each year, Thailand has earned its reputation as the region’s premier golf destination.
Beyond the Greens: Culture and Cuisine
For golfers, Bangkok offers much more than just fairways and greens. The city’s rich cultural tapestry is woven through its 500 temples, vibrant markets, and the gracefully flowing Chao Phraya River. The Grand Palace, home to the revered Emerald Buddha, is a must-see for first-time visitors, though I found visiting less touristed Wat Saket and Wat Traimit, far more relaxing and informative. Here, the Buddhist philosophy of Atayana comes alive, engaging all six senses, reminding me to savor every moment, both on and off the course. The Chao Phraya River is central to Bangkok’s identity.

Night cruises reveal the city’s dazzling skyline and illuminate historic temples, but for a taste of local life, take a longtail boat to the Amphawa floating market or explore the ‘klongs’ or canals lined with riverside communities steeped in tradition.
No golf trip to Thailand is complete without indulging in its world-renowned cuisine. Thai food is a fusion of Asian, Indian, and Western influences, celebrated for its balance of sweet, savory, and spicy flavors. Street food is safe, affordable, and delicious, like

Tom Yum soup, with its fragrant broth and fresh shrimp, that will quickly become a favorite. And after a day on the course, you can choose to unwind with a traditional Thai massage or browse the bustling Chatuchak Market, where haggling is customary and local handicrafts are plentiful. Courses that Inspire Bangkok’s golf scene is as diverse as the city itself, offering everything from dramatic parkland layouts to innovative designs inspired by Buddhist philosophy.
Riverdale Golf Club: Just 45
minutes north of downtown, Riverdale is a standout for its dramatic elevation changes and wildlife-friendly wetlands. Designed by Jonathan Marrow and Tikkalen Allancharles, this 18-hole, par-72 course features five sets of tees ranging from 5,341 to nearly 7,100 yards. Unique to Riverdale, the final holes are illuminated for evening play, allowing golfers to finish their rounds under the stars.
Nikanti Golf Club: Located an hour west of Bangkok, Nikanti is a visionary course conceived by architect Khun Pirapon (Ope) Namatra. Its 6-6-6 layout—two
par 3s, two par 4s, and two par 5s in each of three loops, returns golfers to the clubhouse after every six holes. The layout is not long, 6789 from the black tees but the fairways are narrow with plenty of bunkers making it a shotmakers course with a 72.2 rating and a slope of 140. Inspired by the six senses of Buddhism, Nikanti challenges players with narrow fairways, abundant bunkers, and significant elevation changes, all set on transformed rice paddies.
Kirimaya Golf Resort & Spa: For those willing to venture two hours northwest to Khao Yai, Kirimaya, lives up to its moniker “the illusions of mountains.” Here you will find luxurious accommodation, a worldclass spa, gourmet dining and a championship course designed by Jack Nicklaus. A perfect escape from the city. Set against the backdrop of Khao Yai National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this parkland course features wide fairways, dramatic forced carries, and wetlands teeming with lotus flowers. The tranquil setting, panoramic vistas and cooler clime, make Kirimaya a peaceful retreat for golfers seeking nature and solitude.

Value and Practical Tips
While Thailand’s food and shopping are famously affordable, golf is a premium experience. Expect to pay between 5,300 and 6,500 Baht (about $170–$200 USD) for a package that includes a personal caddy, power cart with GPS, range balls, unlimited water, snacks, and cold towels. Tipping your caddy is not required, but appreciated (around 500 Baht, or $16 USD), and club rentals are available for approximately $65 USD.
The City of Smiles: Why Bangkok Belongs on Every Golfer’s Bucket List
Bangkok’s allure lies in its seamless blend of world-class golf, rich culture, and warm hospitality. Whether you’re teeing off at a championship course, exploring ancient temples, or savoring street food after a round, Thailand offers an experience that goes far beyond the scorecard. For golf travelers seeking adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable memories, Bangkok truly is the Temple of Golf in Asia.

Citrus Hills Veterans Planning Committee Sets Fundraising Record with $42,089 Donation
The Citrus Hills Veterans Planning Committee proudly announced a record-breaking achievement following its 2026 Veterans Day events, raising an unprecedented $42,089 in support of Citrus County veterans and their families. This remarkable total exceeds last year’s fundraising record by over $6,000, underscoring the extraordinary generosity and commitment of the Citrus Hills community. Funds were raised through a series of meaningful events, including the Veterans Day Scramble Golf Tournament held at Skyview at Terra Vista, the 21st Annual Patriotic Veterans Day Dinner Dance, and generous donations from community members and local businesses.
Together, these events served not only as successful fundraisers but as heartfelt tributes honoring the brave men and women who have served our nation.
Since 2003, the Citrus Hills–
Terra Vista community has hosted an annual Veterans Day golf tournament to benefit Citrus County veterans. On November 11th, Skyview Golf Course proudly hosted this year’s tournament,

local veterans in need. Since its inception, the committee has consistently raised $15,000–$16,000 annually, with 100 percent of proceeds going directly to veterans within Citrus County.
This year’s historic success reflects the unwavering dedication of everyone involved—from organizers and volunteers to participants, donors, and attendees. Their collective efforts have not only made history but have also made a meaningful difference in the lives of local veterans.
The Citrus Hills Veterans Planning Committee thanks the community for standing united in this important mission. Together, Citrus Hills continues to honor, support, and uplift those who have served, ensuring their sacrifices are never forgotten.

Justin Thomas & Cameron Young to Host SFPGA Jr. Challenge Cup
For Cameron Young and Justin Thomas, whose strong pairing at the 2025 Ryder Cup was preceded by the special memories they gleaned from separate appearances in the Junior Ryder Cup, there was the opportunity to pay it forward to the young golfers of today. This winter, for 24 talented juniors, such largesse on behalf of Young and Thomas will provide them with a riveting competition that begins with the inaugural playing of the Cameron Young/Justin Thomas South Florida PGA Junior Tour Challenge Cup.
Captained by Young and Thomas, this two-day Ryder Cup-style event will feature two teams of 12 players each (eight boys and four
girls), and will be held at Emerald Dunes Club in West Palm Beach, Florida. There will be 27 holes of team play on the first day -- 9 holes using the Four-Ball or BestBall format; 9 holes utilizing the Scramble format; and 9 holes of Modified Alternate Shot. Twelve 18-hole singles matches will be contested on the final day of competition. The first team to reach 12 1/2 points will claim the Junior Challenge Cup.
“Both Justin and I are sons of PGA of America Professionals, so it’s really important for us to give back to a new generation of kids,” said Young, whose father, David, was the longtime PGA Head Professional at Sleepy Hollow Country Club
in Scarborough, New York.
In the 2014 Junior Ryder Cup, Cameron Young contributed to a U.S. victory in Scotland. Last September, in his Ryder Cup debut, Young tied for the most individual points earned among the Americans, who fell short to the Europeans on the Black Course at Bethpage State Park in his home state. Cameron Young and Justin Thomas teamed to win one of their two matches at Bethpage, and both captured their singles matches in dramatic fashion on the last day of the matches. Thomas, a two-time winner of the PGA Championship, was on the victorious American side in the 2010 Junior Ryder Cup, also played in Scotland. As is the
case with David Young helping shape his son’s skills, Thomas has worked closely over the years with his father, PGA of America Professional Mike Thomas. Justin Thomas’s late grandfather, Paul, also was a PGA Professional.
“Cameron and I had such a great partnership together at the Ryder Cup, and we looked at what we could do with this incredible opportunity through the PGA of America,” Thomas said. “With both of us having family associated with the PGA of America, this runs in our blood. I’m excited that Cameron and I can do this together.”
Building on Thomas’ remarks, leadership from the South Florida PGA emphasized the event’s significance for junior golf in the region. “The South Florida PGA is

thrilled to announce this exciting, new event and our partnership with Cameron Young and Justin Thomas,” said Eric Veilleux, President of the South Florida PGA and the PGA Director of Golf at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida. “This will be a premier event in junior golf, offering an exciting and competitive playing opportunity for some of the most talented juniors in our Section.”
Renowned golf course architect Tom Fazio designed Emerald Dunes in 1990 and oversaw renovations to the par-72 layout that were completed in 2012. “We at Emerald Dunes are truly honored to host the inaugural Cameron Young/ Justin Thomas South Florida PGA Junior Challenge Cup,” said Lee Stroever, the PGA Director of Golf at Emerald Dunes Club

and the South Florida PGA Junior Golf Committee Chairperson. “We are thrilled to welcome the best juniors in the Section for an experience that they will hopefully long remember and cherish.”
Eager for the inaugural event, Thomas is both proud to have paid forward the types of competitive opportunities that once came his way as a junior golfer and respectful of the level of talent that will be on display at Emerald Dunes. “I look forward to watching,” Thomas said, “and, I’m sure at some point, playing against a lot of these players down the road.”

2026 Georgia PGA Season Preview: The Player of the Year Race
By: Sloan Aubrey

As the 2026 season unfolds,
the Georgia PGA Player of the Year race once again takes center stage, serving as the competitive throughline for the year ahead. With a defined slate of qualifying events on the calendar, consistency across the season will be critical as players chase one of the Section’s highest honors.
The new season follows a standout campaign by Matt Sanders, PGA Assistant Professional at West Pines Golf Club, who capped off a stellar year by capturing the 2025 Rolex Georgia PGA Player of the Year title at the Milton Martin Honda Classic. His performance set the standard, and as the standings reset, attention now turns to which players will emerge as contenders in 2026.
The 2026 Georgia PGA Player of the Year standings will be determined by performance in the following qualifying events:
Match Play Championship
May 18–20, Valdosta Country Club
Yamaha Atlanta Open
Jun 1–2, Pinetree Country Club
West Pines Classic
June 29–30, West Pines Golf Club
Golf Pro Payments Georgia Open
Aug 6–9, Kinderlou Forest Golf Club
Georgia PGA Championship
Sept 28–30, Champions Retreat
Milton Martin Honda Classic
Oct 12–13, Chattahoochee Golf Club
The top 72 players and ties in the season-long standings will qualify for The Drew, the seasonending showcase at East Lake Golf Club. The event will be contested in an 18-hole stroke-play format, culminating in a winner-takeall playoff among the leading
finishers. The champion will earn a $50,000 prize, the largest single payout in Georgia PGA history.
With points on the line at each qualifying event, the Player of the Year race rewards consistency across the full season. Strong early finishes can establish momentum, while late-season performances often determine final positioning as the standings take shape.
The final Player of the Year standings will also determine qualification for the Billy Peters Cup, a Ryder Cup–style competition featuring the top 10 regular players and two senior players. The team will represent the Georgia PGA against the Georgia State Golf Association November 23–24 at The Standard Club.
From the opening matches of the spring to the season’s final points race in the fall, the 2026 Georgia PGA Player of the Year race provides a clear competitive framework, highlighting the depth, consistency, and performance required to contend at the highest level within the Section.

A Turf Pirate's Journal $It's Show Time$

GCSAA 100 years and counting

Welcome Turf Pirates to the after Party from the GCSAA Conference and Show, in Orlando, Florida celebrating the centennial (first 100 years) of the GCSAA. It was indeed a pleasure to see everyone and to take a few minutes to catch up with old friends and make a few new ones. I was honored to be able to spend some time with Terrie Purdum who made sure I was decked out in the latest Turf Life Shirt; it is awesome, so be sure to get yours and let’s rock the green on green. I delivered one to my good friend the Legendary GCS, Larry “Goose” Goostree, Superintendent at Temple Hills CC who was not able to make the show as he was literally cutting his way out of the ice storm damage in Nashville. Shout out to the turf and tree Pirates working the clean up in Tennessee. I almost forgot about the show, it was great! Lots of 100-year

celebrations and more to come during the year. Turf Pirates as a whole appreciate coins, so I have to say, the GCSAA challenge coin that was presented to attendees was amazing (see the picture). I was able to get mine from two old friends Bruce Williams and Bob Farren (also see the picture). The coin shows the GCSAA logo on one side and that most famous quote from Col. John Morley, “No
life is, or can be, self-existent, we depend upon each other.” On the other, well done GCSAA. By the numbers, the Conference and Show grew for the fourth year in a row with 12,824 attendees and a record breaking 8,074 education seminar seats filled with a range of education for superintendents, assistants, and equipment managers, including the ever-popular Power Hours.

The GCSAA 100-year Challenge Coin

The trade show floor showcased 523 exhibitors and 178,600 square feet of exhibit space with a total of 428,000 square feet including education areas, GCSAA store and the 100-Years of GCSAA history exhibit which was a popular stop. GCSAA will officially be 100 years old on September 13, 2026, and the last celebrations will happen at next year’s GCSAA Conference and Show in New Orleans January
15-21, 2027. There were some great old items on display and of course the latest technology in iron and chemistry. Autonomous mowers were everywhere, the latest GPS and photo in-abled spot sprayers stood out as well. Deals were made and the floor was busy from bell to bell. A few items of note in case you missed the big show. My friend and environmental stand-out Paul Carter, CGCS was elected the 89th President of GCSAA. Palmer Maples Jr., the oldest living GCSAA Past President was everywhere during the show shaking hands and encouraging the next generation of leaders. Penn State won the Turf Bowl, but all of the Turf Students had a great show and as we say, we never stop recruiting as there were potential interns everywhere. The cupcakes at the Closing Session were awesome. The CGCS lunch saw 36 new CGCS honored from 2025 and Gary Grigg, CGCS, MG celebrated 48 years as a CGCS. Many awards were given by GCSAA and other golf centered companies too many to list them all, but we always raise a glass to those who excel in the golf/green industry. Wednesday night was Chapter night so again thanks to the local chapters for making

things happen at home and at the show. GCSAA CEO Rhett Evens became a Grand Father shortly after the show, Family First! Grassroots Ambassador Education sessions were great, and advocacy is alive and well at GCSAA. You can buy a centennial brick for the new GCSAA entrance courtyard check out the GCSAA website for details, I have been assured that all of us that bought 75th anniversary bricks will see these replaced as well in the new design. One less thing to worry about. My new hip protested about the number of steps per day, but the extra chairs scattered around the trade show and food areas were simply amazing! To my brothers and sisters from Invited Clubs: it was a hectic schedule, but it was another successful show. Note that my buddy Ed Martinez from The HILLS CC in Austin, Texas carded an ace during the golf championship with below freezing temps in Orlando, well played, good sir.
I hope that we will see you next year in New Orleans Turf Pirates as we all try to make our way through this crazy industry. I reminded again of the words of Col. John Morely, “we depend on each other” and we are always at our best when we gather together!

Twin Dolphin Earns Audubon International Signature Sanctuary Gold Certification
Audubon International –
the environmentally focused non-profit organization offering members numerous certifications and conservation initiatives to protect the areas where we all live, work, and play – congratulates Twin Dolphin Club, centerpiece of a private master-planned community in Los Cabos, Mexico, on achieving Signature Sanctuary Gold Certification for
its comprehensive commitment to sustainable best practices.
Originally awarded Signature Sanctuary Bronze Certification in 2022, the Fred Couples Signature course was designed in partnership with Todd Eckenrode of Origins Golf Design, who has since returned to lay out the new Backyard Short Course. Owned and operated by Ohana Real Estate Investors, Twin Dolphin’s original

18 holes is routed on an incredible desert setting of hills and arroyos with Sea of Cortez views at every turn. Small clusters of homes are placed throughout the property to keep members’ interaction with the Baja environment as immersive as possible.
“They check every box for certification, starting with their naturalization and their wildlife,” says Sarah Honan,

Audubon International’s Assistant Director of Signature Sanctuary Certification. “The course itself is abundant corridors, naturalized areas that they continue to expand upon. The property also has a large section that’s more native and wild-kept and connects with the golf course very well.”
Director of Agronomy Russell Hewitt, who joined the Twin Dolphin project on day one, and his crew work hard to keep water use to a minimum while providing healthy playing surfaces – Bermuda fairways and rough, Tif Eagle greens – thriving through the region’s dry and humid seasons. Hewitt helped shepherd Twin Dolphin through its initial Signature Sanctuary Certification literally from the ground up, combine the latest irrigation technologies with tried-and-true nutrient inputs and IPM (integrated pest management) programs to achieve and maintain balance and efficiency on the course. “When I came on board, I asked ownership to consider Audubon International, and they thought it was a great idea. We were in that primary period that we could get into the Signature Sanctuary program. We

were the first in Mexico to do so.”
Other environmentally friendly measures such as solar-covered refueling stations, battery backups, paper use reduction, and wildlife habitat enhancement solidify Twin Dolphin’s stewardship bona fides, and by all accounts, its members and homeowners, who trend younger and more sustainability oriented, are fully on board, with a push toward Signature Sanctuary Platinum Certification in the not-too-distant future.
“This season we’ve had good comments on everything, which is a testament to the team doing all the hard work out there, doing
a really good job,” Hewitt says. “Everyone’s passionate about what they do and it’s a fun place to work.”

Kendrick B. Melrose Family Foundation makes additional $1-million investment in GCSAA Gift is the third of its kind from the Melrose Foundation
The Kendrick B. Melrose Family Foundation has donated $1 million to the GCSAA Foundation, the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA). The official announcement of the gift was made Feb. 2 during the Opening Session of the 2026 GCSAA Conference and Trade Show (CTS) in Orlando, Fla.
This is the third such gift to GCSAA from the Melrose Foundation. In 2012, the first $1-million gift endowed the Melrose Leadership Academy, which focuses on professional development for golf course superintendents through opportunities to attend the annual CTS. That was followed by a $1-million donation in 2019 to fund the Melrose Equipment Management Experience, which focuses on professional development of equipment managers and brings them to the CTS. In addition, the Melrose Foundation donated $500,000 in 2019 to support First Green, GCSAA’s STEAM-education program.
The latest gift will continue supporting programs and initiatives that deliver training and education to GCSAA members to the benefit of the entire golf industry and the communities they serve.
The Melrose Family Foundation was formed by the late Ken Melrose, former CEO and chairman of the Toro Co. He joined the Toro Co., in 1970 and quickly ascended the ranks of the company, culminating with his appointment as CEO in 1983 and chairman of the board of directors in 1987. He retired as CEO in

2005 and from the chairman position in 2006. That same year he formed Leading by Serving, LLC, a new company whose mission was to advance the principles of servant leadership in business organizations
Upon forming the Melrose Equipment Management Experience in 2019, Melrose said, “I believe that GCSAA is the best organization to deliver the education and training that will not only benefit golf course management professionals, but their facilities and the game.”
Melrose passed away on May 3, 2020, and the Melrose Family Foundation has continued his work. In honor of Melrose’s
support of GCSAA, the auditorium at GCSAA headquarters in Lawrence, Kan., is named for him.
“As we celebrate GCSAA’s Centennial this year, we can truly say that we have not had a more benevolent friend in the last 100 years than Ken Melrose, who helped advance the golf course management industry through his visionary leadership.” GCSAA Chief Executive Officer Rhett Evans said. “We are deeply appreciative and humbled by this latest gift from his Foundation. Ken made a huge impact on GCSAA members during his lifetime, and this latest support will continue to build on his legacy.”
