PI PING DOWN (1987-88) The actor in this piece of musical theatre is the soloist who wants to make a big, boastful impression on the audience ("See how elever I am!"). The pretentiousness and self-importance of it all now and then creates a tragicornic effect, almost like a high-wire artist trying to do a triple somersault with a blindfold on: the attempt is bound to fail. The piece was composed for the solo-flutist Søren Barfoed who made the first performance. He also made this computer typesetting. Discography: Mogens Winkel Holm, dacapo DCCD 9111. I. Movement: To be played very freely - gesticulating. Glissandi: lip- or finger-gliss. Otherwise quasi-chromatic gliss.
II. Movement: Freely - very virtuoso.
III. Movement: Strictly in tempo.
IV. Movement: To be played with great contrasts.
Ex.: : Somehow whispered, but at the same time strictly rhythrnical and intense - nearly inaudible - ma con passione.
