Written By: Evelyn C. Pointer, Elder A meek person is gentle and patient; slow to anger or wrath, humble and harmless as a dove. A meek person may appear to be weak in the eyes of the world. They often appear to be submissive, yet in reality they stand firm in the truth, submitting themselves to the will of God and resisting the forces of the devil. In the eyes of the world the proud and the arrogant are looked upon with high esteem particularly if they are wealthy and famous. Other evil characteristics such as greed and covetousness are admired also because the world loves those who have. All of these evil traits appear to be strong and manly. Those with the greatest power often have the greatest pride and are ruthless and merciless when it comes to getting what they want. In this country some may insist on a thin layer or veneer of kindness or sympathetic words to give an illusion of goodness. It is written that “pride goeth before a fall”, and “he that is slow to wrath is of great understanding”. Christ was meek and lowly in heart. Matthew 11: 28-30, “Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
