INTRODUCTION
It’s time to get excited because the Feast of Purim is almost here. Each year we celebrate this great feast day, wearing colors of white, purple and gold. When you think of Purim, I want you to think of the word victory. What does that word mean? Victory is when you succeed in a difficult task or overcome an enemy.
HOW PURIM STARTED
Purim first started after Israel was saved from the very wicked Haman who sought to destroy them. But with the bravery of Queen Esther and Mordecai and most importantly, the mercy of God, Israel was able to fight against their enemies and win the victory. To show their thanks to the Lord, Esther and Mordecai established the Feast of Purim. The story of Esther teaches us that we have to be strong and brave. It shows us that if we obey God, He will help us to fight against our enemies and to overcome bad things that may happen in life.
OUR ENEMY
Do you know that you have an enemy? He is the most powerful enemy you have and his name is Satan. The devil is always going to try to make you sin against the commandments of God so that you lose out on eternal life. You cannot see him but he is there. When you want to hit someone. That comes from Satan. When you feel the need to lie to your parents or disobey them. That comes from Satan. If you say a bad word. That comes from Satan. All the bad things that happen in the world is because of Satan.
OUR ARMOR
But there is no need to be scared. We, as saints, have someone way more powerful than Satan on our side and that is God. Now you may be wondering how in the world can I fight Satan, if I can’t see him. Well, you can. The Lord gives us his law and the word of God to fight against the devil. Think of the word of God as your spiritual armor.
Ephesians 6: 13-17
In fact, the Bible compares the word of God to armor in Ephesians 6: 13-17, "Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”
SIN VS. RIGHTEOUSNESS
Now lets think about what physical armor does. It serves as protection for the entire body from any injury that could occur when fighting in a battle. The word of God is our spiritual armor that protects us. Did you know we are currently in a spiritual battle of righteousness vs sin. If Satan is able to get us to sin, he has injured us. That is why we have to use the word of God daily to protect us.
EXAMPLE
Let me give you an example. You are in a candy store. The store is huge, bright and colorful. It smells amazing. There are a variety of candies to choose from but your Mom says you can only purchase 2 types of candies. You were hoping for at least 4 to 5 choices! Then a small voice in your mind says just slip some of the candy you want in your pocket. No one will know. Not a big deal. This is of course what Satan tells you. But it actually is a big deal, because you would be breaking the 8th commandment, which says, “Thou shalt not steal.” If you choose to do what is right and obey the 8th commandment, this is an example of you using the word of God as weapon against the devil.
VICTORY
When we choose to do the right thing instead of sin, we win a victory over our enemy the devil. We gain victories in the Lord when we go though something difficult in life and still choose to obey Him, like being bullied at school. We gain victories in the Lord when we make sacrifices to serve Him, like choosing to go to church on the Sabbath day instead of a friend’s birthday party. And every time we gain a victory through God, we get stronger and stronger.
FIGHT FOR GOD DAILY
The word of God is the only way we can fight Satan. We have to fight the devil daily. That is why it is very important to have worship daily. You must pray, you must sings songs and you must study the Bible every single day. Otherwise, you will forget what the commandments are and how to obey God, making you an easy target for Satan. And you don’t want that because Satan will lead you to being destroyed with eternal death. But with the help of God, the saints will get the victory over sin! That is why we celebrate Purim each year. Amen.
FIGHT FOR GOD DAILY FEBRUARY ASSIGNMENTS
1. You can either draw OR color the whole armor of God and present it to the church. Make sure to include each piece mentioned in the scripture of Ephesians 6: 13-17.

2. Share with the church a small victory that you have won over Satan. Ex: I decided to share something with my brother or sister instead of fighting. Ex: I decided to be nice to classmate at school that everyone was making fun of.

3. We will learn and sing the song, “I’m in the Lord’s Army”
